I felt so great after eating this food. It's very clean and whole food, with amazing flavor ! Huge shout out to the Blueberry Coconut Cake!! It's the perfect amount of sweetness. Staff was amazing and obviously proud of their food.

Love going to this restaurant when I'm in the west end area. Love their lentil turmeric soup!! Absolutely handsome down fave soup. I drive 30-40 min to get this soup when I'm craving something warm or a healthy soup that'll be healing and delicious!!!

Hopeful Essence Caribbean Soul Food is a gem! Miss Princess in the kitchen and Shannon at the front were fantastic. Their customer service was exceptional—so helpful and accommodating. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious! I can’t recommend this place enough for an authentic, welcoming experience.Thank you guys for making my Moms birthday an amazing dining experience!

I was trying this food for the first time, I placed an online order and when it got to me everything was soggy. The gravy from the curry drenched the plantains and the cornbread. Why they put the corn bread in with the food I can’t answer that other than to say someone wasn’t thinking. I called the restaurant and the rude lady who answered the phone after I attempted to tell her about the condition of the food said to me “me don’t have time for this, once the food leaves the restaurant its not her business' ' and hang up on me. Base on my experience I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant for online orders.

This place is the real deal. I take everyone I can to eat this food. The collards, fish cake, chicken paddy, the samosas and the black eyed peas? They’re delicious. The maduros and mock goat? GTFOH. I come back time and again though for the jerk bean curd…if that’s what it’s called. I get it every time. The BBQ Tofu is on point and whenever I bring friends, they comment about the spice level which makes me 😈😈😈 This is one of my favorite vegan spots in Atlanta. I’ll be back again and again. Atmosphere is simple. Can eat inside or outside. Tiny spot with big flavor. I highly recommend. If you go, you gotta grab a licorice stick at the end too. Excellent for post-meal digestion and honestly, I don’t know another spot in ATL offering that. This is the kind of place the late Anthony Bourdain would have loved. It’s off the beaten path, affordable, delicious, unique flavors, locally owned. Beats Planta by a mile and a half.

This is truly a gem of a place. They have setup buffet like counters with various dishes on display, and we can either dine in or get a box to go. Their caramelized plantains are just too good. And their curries, vegetable dishes everything was so tasty. We visited twice, first time we dined in - they have a very homely ambiance. Another time we got to-go boxes and ate in the flight. Both times we were super happy, and the food is very healthy and gentle on the stomach too.

Outstanding! A little hole in the wall spot that can put some fancier restaurants to shame! I was kindly greeted upon entry and asked if it was my first time there. After responding yes, Willy Charles showed me everything (literally) that was available and then had me try about six or seven samples! I went with the curry ungoat, collard greens, rice and plantains. It was absolutely delicious and fresh. The great thing about the food was that unlike many places who add salt to the food to make it taste like everything else, they did not do that which allows you to taste the real flavor of the food. There are many options to choose from and they have really good natural drinks and vegan desserts as well. You will not be disappointed in the food or service!

Listed as vegetarian and vegan but found out it's all vegan so that was good to know. Small, clean space. We liked the curried dish better than the jerk. The squash and pumpkin was new for me and a nice sweet element. Would swing in here again.

It took me longer than I'd like to admit to realize how much I love this restaurant! It is no frills, but IT IS THE BEST RESTAURANT IN THE COUNTRY - IF YOU WANT HEALTHY AND DELICIOUS! We order Large 4 veggie and it is enough for my partner and I to share. Everything is packed full of flavor and nutrition! The Lima beans are SOOO good! Rasta pasta is hard to find, so it's been a while, but the Mac and Cheez is the bomb!! They cook all of their food with fancy purified water and it shows in the color and flavor I really wish I could eat their food all day every day for the rest of my life. IT IS THAT GOOD!! The 89 "Health Score" didn't include any violations of the "Standard not met: Insects, rodents, and animals not present" variety, so though I wasn't super stoked about the "89", I could suffer the other violations. The customer service was a little muted, but attentive and efficient (You may be best served with a little confidence and assertiveness in your ordering actions). The food BANGS, is good for you and plentiful...As long as your palette is Vegan-friendly/open you really can't go wrong with your selection. You might drive past it or think it's not open if you lack a bit of awareness, but it's there and their stationary food truck in the ample parking lot is a good marker, just in case there are initial questions about the non-descript location. You could do worse with your hard earned money - BIG UP Healthfull Essence!!!

Food is TEWWWW GOOOD! I was a little skeptical because it's vegan but it did NOT disappoint. and the mango smoothie was heavenlyyyy! The service was quick and the employees are sweet.

Have the opportunity to actually get lunch today and knew that I wanted some healing food. So I took the drive and ran over to Healthfull Essence. As usual, it did not disappoint! They even had something new to try, Vegetable Gunbo! It was alll good! I got enough for 2 days! #eattolive

Walking in just 20 minutes before closing, and was treated like I was the first customer of the day As a first time customer, they gave me a "tour" and explained everything in the steam table. Many non soy options, all authentic flavors. The smell alone was promising! I was also offered a sample of anything I wanted to try. I setlled for the curry veggie protein, channa (curry chick peas) and rice. I also took Irish Moss. I was so happy to find Irish Moss made with non dairy milk, I tried a flavor - Peanut. Everything was delicious and a good amount of food was served in a medium meal. I would recommend for authentic caribbean seasoning in their food (not just jerk everything) and plethora of vegan options.

I love this place! I had the Jerk UnDuck and got some veggies on the side. I also got a patty and the sweet potato cornbread. It's good stuff! I did not like the cornbread, but my plate and patty were extremely flavorful. That patty was a 10/10. Amazing. I will be coming back in the future!

Do not come here for the customer service. I say again, DO NOT come here for the customer service. Now that we've got that out of the way...Yes, I eat vegetarian foods too!! This has been a staple in Atlanta's West End for a long time. I always grab a the three (3) item plate and a sorrel to drink. They also make smoothies. Oh yeah, don't forget to bring your empty gallon jug so you can re-up on your alkaline water.

Long time fan/customer since 2009! Great vegan food! It's like ordering from your aunt or uncle so don't come with thin skin. They will answer all your questions but don't hold up the line lol. My favorite vegan West Indian restaurant is over 40 minutes away and I was craving some good food. Healthful Essence has been on my list for a long time and until recently I didn't realize how close it was to me less than 15 minutes so I decided to stop in. Located off of York St in SW Atlanta in a very busy area known as the Vegan Mecca. There are so many vegan friendly places in walking distance or a few minutes drive. Everything looked delicious and I didn't know what to order. After some careful deliberation I ordered curried ungoat, Mac un-cheese, collard greens, and navy beans. I also ordered a callaloo and in-chicken patty. Everything was delicious and I will definitely be back especially since it's so close to home.

Simple yet flavorful home cooking. Many options, hefty servings and very filling meals. Drinks are awesome as well, try the green lemonade. We didn't get sea moss but they it's available. Also they fill up your gallons with 9.5 alkaline water for $4. Can't go wrong with anything here. Super cozy and friendly environment. I can feel the love when I walk into this place.

The curry un-goat was delicious! It was seasoned to perfection. I would definitely eat there again. Highly recommend!

Ordered BBQ tofu, greens, Mac n cheese and spicy eggplant. I don't really like tofu (they talked me into it) but it was really good. I would get it again. Greens could have used some more seasoning. Mac was great but the winner was the eggplant! If you like spicy you will love it. It's perfect to mix with the greens. Also had a kale patty and it was good too. This was my first visit and I will definitely be a regular moving forward.

Oh yeah this is what I needed to eat. Wanted to get one of everything, but got the mock duck and the red beans, plantains, and a citrus cooler drink. THEN I got me one of those raw licorice roots and chewed on it....it was excellent. Wish I would have taken pictures, but I know I'm coming back to this place, so I'll post pics when I do. thinking next time of getting that un-chicken patty.... Okay so two days later I'm back, the people there were all smiles and happy to let me sample the delicious dishes. I just don't get food like this where I live! Giving me LIFE, y'all! Today I got the curry un-chicken, collards, black eyed peas, and plantains. Also got me an un-chicken patty that I'm gonna save for dinner. And of course, another licorice root!

this food was just not it I mean I definetly had better at other caribbean restaurants. And i know this is vegan and I AM vegan but the flavor was lacking. From the rice peas to the curry to the mac n cheese to the unfish pattie to the eggplant. I would say the eggplant tasted the best but it was a simple tomato based flavor to me nothing special. This food is lack luster. Where is the seasoning? The flavor is lacking overall but let me tell you about the PRICES. $21 for a dang large plate which is 1 meat substitute and 3 sides and I AM EXPECTING for this food to be good for that price. WRONG! The flavor just isn't there and it's way too expensive. This is the type of restaurant that after you done eating, you know you can cook this better at home. The sorrel drink was okay but the ginger in it is kinda overpowering and some people are not going to like that. This place just isn't it im sorry i was expecting better for this place to have 4 stars, knock it down some. Im rating this one star because for this food to be expensive as it is and the flavor wasn't wow'ing me... no. Just no.

We visited this restaurant December 2020 and decided to return November 2021! One of our go to vegan restaurants in town. We were welcomed nicely and they were patience with while we taste tested some items before ordering. The restroom was clean and the dining area was nice. We ordered some food to go. We definitely recommend trying out Healthful Essence in West End. Princess Dixon was very nice to us. The Jerk un-chicken was spicy, but good! Google states that business is open on Sundays, but it's actually is closed.

I just love eating at a vegan restaurant that serves delicious food. I ate here years ago when I first moved to Atlanta and I have no idea why it's taken me almost 5 years to return... silly girl (lol). For a wet Saturday afternoon there was a steady line but the wait was minimal. There were so many vegan items to choose from but they unfish cakes caught my eye first, they looked so yummy. So when you walk in there's a hot food case with items to choose from and they also have special items in the back so make sure you ask. Pick up a food tray from below if you're thinking in. There's a white board with a handwritten menu with prices by the register and another menu with the unmeat items in the dining area. The server allowed me to sample a few items which I was very appreciative of; I ordered a medium plate with curry ungoat, mac n cheese, cabbage and a side of the fish cakes. *medium plate with "meat" and 2 sides $9.99 (i believe) * side fish cakes (2 per order) $3 * alkaline water $2 I was surprised by the portions, they were very large. I dined in so the items were on a plate. There's four medium size low tables in the restaurant and about 3 small high top tables. They also have a sofa for sitting. Food taste: everything was DELICIOUS, i cleaned my plate! The curry was nice and spicy, the mac n cheese was very flavorful, cheese was very creamy and it was hard to believe it was vegan. Best item was the fish cakes, so flavorful and crunchy; I was tempted to go and place another order. I definitely don't wait another 5 years to visit, I'm looking forward to my next visit. Excellent service and amazing food.

I had the opportunity to stop in and this place has changed my life. I recently stopped eating meat and I am always looking for hidden gems to try out. The food at this establishment is to die for. I had 2 Chick Pea Patties and a Veggie Roti. The only way I can sum it up is FLAVORMAZING!!!! I will certainly be back over and over again. The food was great. The prices are good. And the service was pleasant. Make sure to get the Citrus Punch as well. It was a perfect addition to my awesome meal.

Food: Jerk mushrooms, mac and cheese, and lentils were so delicious. Beware the jerk mushrooms are very spicy (and I eat a lot of spicy food)! Dessert: Chocolate cake was good, but could have been better. I was told the blueberry cake was the most popular, but I was craving chocolate, so I can't speak to how the blueberry is, but would try next time. Service: Service was excellent - able to sample as many dishes as I wanted - and super friendly. Will go back for sure. Location: Within the vegan mecca in Atl in the west end. Small parking lot outside, which is great to find in the city!

It's been years since I visited this shop. Popped by for a quick grab and go lunch. Parking is plentiful, staff is friendly and the food delicious, healthy and reasonably priced. The shop is small but there's enough table and seating. It wasn't full when I stopped by after 1 o'clock. I selected the mango smoothie and un-chicken patty, which was filling without making me feel stuffed. My visit was short, but I'll definitely return to try their hot bar.

Stopped by yesterday. I live in Orlando. I have been here alot but each time either they were closed or out of the way. So this was a long time coming. I know the person who took my order was thinking, I could not be ordering all this food for myself but 1. I had not eaten all day and 2. It was along time coming. The nice man was patient and did well to explain the menu options. I have Looked over all your reviews and my mouth was watering oh, and this place was recommend to me on IG by iamchazzellis and so I had high expectations. I got the extra large 6 things platter. My favorite was the dow (not sure if I spelled it right) it was mashed curry lentils loved it best thing on my plate, plantains.......average, collard greens....average, curry veggies......ok, unchick patty......good second fav........sweet potato cornbread good 3rd fav (texture took some getting used to. Curry ungoat was ok. Maybe I am jaded because I was starving and also sad they did not have mac and cheese (fri sat only) or the veggie lasagna (not sure when they make it) and just a little sad about not having what I wanted. When my taste buds want what what they want it is hard to compromise. I also tried the citrus cooler recommended by the man who took my order ( i will be better with names next time promise) but next time I will try the mango smoothie or one of the earthy drinks like green lemonade or the beet juice. I also had the ginger cookie which was ok as well. I gave 4 stars because the service was great and I am sure my hunger was to blame. I will be back to try them again. And will take more photos

Brought my friend Brian here during his Atlanta stop on his RV road trip across America! We really enjoyed the healthy Caribbean plant-based and HOMEMADE menu. Everyone was really nice and it was food for the SOUL.

Just finished a masterful combination of Black eyed peas w/ brown rice...curried non-chicken...RUNDOWN - curries ROOTveggies et plaintain...and alkaline water. MASTERFUL. off the beat n path, but a WELCOME SPACE. GREAT Menu...Great VIBE...smoothies and desserts are here as well... Bless UP Continued Success. PeAcE

KeithKNOWS, Been There, Ate There often!! They have the best sorrel drink in the ATL, yes, I said so...lol.. Whenever I'm in the West End, this is my go to place for delicious yumminess, love their un fish cakes, rice and peas of course, curry veggies..so good!, they also have really good collard greens too, now you know I gotta have dessert, I usually devour the carrot cake and from time to time I'll have the peach cobbler. It's a small intimate space, they also do takeout and have a few outdoor tables. I would highly recommend this spot for vegans.

The portion sizes here are huge lol. For the cost, it should be expected, but I was still pleasantly surprised. We got the jerk UnChicken meal. It was soooo good. They also have the best vegan macaroni and cheese that I've ever had. I seriously need answers for how it tastes so cheesy with no cheese! The customers and vendors inside had great energy. Had a couple nice conversations with like-minded people. Looking forward to going back and trying some other things.

I always get the curry un goat and fish cakes, portion sizes are good and everything tastes amazing. I'm not even vegan. Not vegetarian even. I just really love the food here.

I'm doing a fast but was craving Jamaican food. Was very pleased to find this place! I got the curry un-goat, rice and peas, and sweet potato cornbread. The curry was very flavorful. The cornbread was simply amazing! Definitely getting that again! It was my first time there, so the lady behind the counter explained everything they were serving today. It was more expensive than traditional fast-serve Jamaican restaurants, but I understand why since everything is vegan and freshly prepared.

Amazing vegan food! I'd never tried vegan Caribbean food before coming here, but now I'm a huge fan. Everything is so flavorful and delicious, and there are many gluten-free options to choose from. The spicy eggplant was the best. If there's spicy eggplant, make sure you get some. Prices are good and everyone working there was really friendly too! I'd definitely come back again!

It's an understated storefront that might be easy to miss, but you'll be glad you found it. It's a small cafeteria styled place with small plates (one meat substitute and one side) around $9 and large plates (one meat substitute and two sides) at about $11. I had curried vegetables and mock fish fritters flavored with kelp. They were served with a complimenting vinegar-based dipping sauce. Very tasty! There are tons of vegan, soy free, gluten free options, and they have a mobile rewards program. Don't miss out on the sweet potato "cornbread!"

We're fans of vegan/vegetarian food & decided to try it out for lunch due to the great Yelp reviews. We will not be back. Everyone was friendly, customer service was great. They let you try the sides before you order - which is a positive. But people started to line up behind us & we felt rushed so we ordered the un-fish, kale patties, a couple sides & sour sop drink. (None of which we were able to taste before ordering). We may have taken 3 bites & trashed the rest. The food tasted old and lacked flavor. The server put un-fish patties on top of sides. So they were soaked in juice by the time we got back to our office. Kale in patties tasted old. Maybe we went on a bad day ...or bad time of day... but we don't plan to return. I feel bad because everyone was so nice but as a consumer my money is hard to come by. I literally threw $20 in the trash.

While the exterior of the building is hidden and underwhelming, the restaurant inside is amazing!!! Great people. Wonderful service. Great food. Being it was my first time here, the workers immediately let me try anything before choosing my meal. They were soo nice and answered all my questions. Everything I tried was great (especially the mac and cheese!!!) but ultimately I got the jerk "duck", curried veggies, and cabbage. I also ordered the sweet potato cornbread and it was phenomenal. I'd return here in a heartbeat. They had two types I cakes made in house that I have my eyes on. There is limited seating. Best to take to go and enjoy elsewhere.

I came to Atlanta, Ga to visit for a week an we ordered dinner from several vegan restaurants through Grubhub. Of all the places we visited this place was the worst. The food arrived cold ( the hotel was less than 15mins away and I was outside when the driver arrived) so it was not because of the drive. The collards were bland and lacked any seasoning, the jerk I duck was over cooked and just spicy lacked flavor. I also ordered the peach cobbler and it smelled and tasted awful. I also ordered the sweet potato cornbread but never received it. (Called the restaurant and the gentleman said they would send it but they did not. There are several vegan places in the downtown Atlanta area that will deliver to your hotel just DO NOT order from here!!!! Please do not make the mistake I did try Envegan they were AMAZING!!!! And the food arrived really hot!

This place offers delicious vegan food but is a bit hard to find. Easiest way is to locate the Goodwill then drive behind it. Healthful Essence is the parking lot directly adjacent. You can dine in on real plates and silverware or opt for the foam takeout. Either way, make it a point to pay the extra $1.99 and order the "stewed un-fish" as it is worth every penny. They offer a nice variety of cooked and raw options as well as fresh juices. It was great to find this in Atlanta and it easily made my top three places to eat during my visits.

Vegan Review: I decided to give Healthful Essence a try as I was in the mood for some home style vegan food. The restaurant is located in the West End right around the corner from the Marta station. I ordered the curried tofu, un-goat (I believe), mac and cheese with collard greens with a slice of chocolate cake for dessert. Honestly, even though I ate everything as I hadn't eaten anything in about 24 hours the food was just okay. I have had better Caribbean vegan and non-vegan. The Mac and cheese was the biggest disappointment as I was expecting it to be more "cheesy". It was spicy but it was not that good. The collards were nothing special and the two meats were just okay. They must use a lot of oil because my stomach has been off since I ate the meal. The chocolate cake was flavorful. I liked the atmosphere, the employees, it's black owned, and I love their dedication to vegan food in SW Atlanta. I will bump this to a 4 star review even as I was not that impressed with the food itself.

Customer service was on point. That's always a great way to earn stars from me. However, I wasn't impressed with the food...or the prices. I'm still looking for a reasonably priced vegetarian/vegan restaurant to rock my socks.

Came across Healthful Essence on Yelp and while in Atlanta for the weekend I was like I must check this place out. Mainly for the following reasons: 1. It's a black owned business 2. It's Vegan 3. Not only is it vegan but it's Caribbean vegan (my family are Caribbean and Caribbean food has my heart) 4. Everything is made with fresh, natural produce and PH alkaline water is used for everything!!!! The food was AMAZING!! Hands down! I can honestly say everything was delicious and I guarantee you, non-vegans would enjoy the food just as much! It was difficult to find this place as the sign was not too visible. There's some work that could be done inside and outside but PLEASE do not let this deter you. When I arrived it was explained to me the different plates available and the owner (who's was really nice) gave me a sample of all the different "meats" to try before I buy. I wanted everything!!! Decided on the un-goat, jerk un-duck, Mac & cheese, curry vegetables, rice and peas and it came with plantain. I cannot express enough how good the food is... The un-goat was my favorite and it tasted like actual goat it was crazy!! Also had a citrus cooler which was refreshing!!! Prices are very reasonable and you get a lot for your money, I had plenty left over. For everything I listed I paid under $20. They have a small seating area with a tv and all the staff were friendly and professional. Would definitely recommend this place!

Was over charged. I checked the site prior to ordering in store and my order was 35 after tax. I get to the store they tell me it's 42 after tax for two,two side plates. On top of that my sides barely filled the to go container. There was a lady that prepared my plates and anytime I asked anything I was given a attitude. Please do better with customer service with ALL customers.. not just the ones you know.

Ordered this to-go with Uber Eatz and it was put together and delivered quickly, I was impressed. Not only were they extremely quick getting my meal together, but the food was DELICIOUS! I got the BBQ Tofu, Brown Stew Un-Fish, Curry Vegetables, and Egg Plant & every single item was amazing. This was my first time eating here, and I'll let you know now it definitely won't be my last. Keep in mind I've been a vegetarian for about 4 years now & I'm definitely picky about good vegetarian food, so when I tell you this place is a winner, I mean it.

Ah. Maze. Ing. Went on a Saturday during business hours and Y'all! Born and raised in Atlanta and have never been blessed by this little slice of heaven in your mouth lol. I feel neglected. The service was awesome, the atmosphere just the same. (I love intimate and for the culture) I was able to sample whatever I wanted before purchasing and needless to say I got everything I sampled. Portions were perfect, so much that I couldn't even finish. Warmed up the next day is just as great! Thank you for upholding professionalism and great taste! Definitely a must have for vegans, vegetarians and anyone who just wants good food and good vibes.

This is my favorite Vegan place in Atlanta! I love there curry goat and there cabbage! Princess and Quatro are so amazing the customer service and staff make the food even better. On Friday they do an amazing drum circle #sswirl

Food was not as flavorful as I remembered it to be years ago, and they started carrying raw foods and are suspiciously similar to their neighbor Tassili's. Nonetheless, service was spectacular, they let you sample the food prior to making a decision and the food was fresh. I ordered the callaloo patty, coconut & blueberry cake, unfish, curry vegetables & collard greens. I know pretty much half the menu. The patty, cake & unfish were the star items. The curry vegetables, despite being curried were bland and the collards were bland as well. I would go here again though, as I have an affinity towards black-owned vegetarian restaurants.

I enjoyed every bite of my food! We all did! We decided to stay in the city since the traffic to get back home was so bad. And where else is there to hang besides the West End! All of our palates were HAPPY! The curry veggies were paradise! I will be making that for dinner tomorrow! GOOD VIBRATIONS!!! The customer service was EXCELLENT!!! Clean Bathroom! The entire place was clean!
