The 25 Best Restaurants In Dallas 2024 - Dallas - The Infatuation

"Henk’s has been around for over 50 years, owned and operated by the sons and daughter of its Dutch immigrant founder. They do great Bavarian pastries and German sausages (a rarity in Dallas) and Henk’s daughter, Hanneke, is one of the best waiters in the city—she’ll let you know if the soup of the day is worth getting. There’s no better brunch option on Sundays for beer drinkers, as the cafe has taps from mostly European breweries to pair with schnitzel or sausages." - Lee Escobedo

Google
Deli packed with customers enjoying their favorite food. I had Ruben, and trust me it was one of the best. Also tried KASEWURST, spicy smoked sausage with cheese. I also loved Black Forest pasties and took some for my friends.

Google
Hands down the best place to get cakes from the flavors are unmatched. My family buys a cake from here every birthday party we have our favorite one will have to be the Black forrest cake it is rich in the chocolate and cherry European sweets are the best. 10/10!!

Google
Great hidden gem in Dallas for German food. Great food and beer. The cakes and bakery items look amazing and it has a cute ship with a selection of items from Europe.

Google
Have only been here twice. First tube was excellent service and food. The second is reflected above. See was non-existent-- had to interrupt waiter sitting at table to ask for check after 15 minutes. Drank sat empty with no occasion to get refilled. Prices are great, though portions are smaller than found at the other German restaurants in town.

Charlotte Johnson

Google
Delicious brunch and cakes here! Only trouble is finding parking when it's busy. Very good food, we loved it.

Rebecca Ehrsam

Google
Stopped in to pick up a German Chocolate birthday cake on Saturday morning. Decided to sit at the counter and have the Dutch Breakfast! Awesome bratwurst! What a treat!

Google
The atmosphere is really fun. The cake was great - fluffy and moist with a dense and flavorful buttercream. We got brunch. The biscuits we're fluffy and the chicken and waffles was good. The potatoes had good seasoning. The potato pancakes were too greasy for me. I loved the little store. There were lots of licorice options. I grabbed some marzipan. It's a fun little spot that is good for the family. Parking is plentiful. Clean bathroom. Deli counter and bakery counters.

Google
We've come here a few times over the past year and ordered a meal and dessert every time. In comparison to other German grocers in the area, their selection, store, parking lot, and seating are significantly smaller but if you're in the area it's worth a visit.

Yelp
Great cakes and even better breakfast! Service us always fast and easy. Although it is always busy it never is overwhelming. They move fast and efficient

Yelp
This is strictly on a to go order for cake. We were worried after looking at the reviews since we ordered around the holidays. Our family loved the cake. The fruit was a wonderful accompaniment to the soft moist cake. I highly recommend ordering from here for your next party.

Yelp
Four of us were seated quickly on Thanksgiving weekend!! Waiter helped me find several choices w/o meat and we all were very pleased with the food. Even found authentic Stollen on shelves in the Bakery.

Yelp
Small place with incredible food. This is my go to comfort food restaurant. Family owned and they do take care of their regulars! Kinda odd hours but if you can work it in to your schedule, I promise you that you will be happy that you did!

Yelp
What a gem! Friendly people. Great food. Beer was amazing and getting my Favorite childhood dessert. I am an American with German roots and this place is legit! Cute ambiance too!

Yelp
Henk's, a cherished breakfast spot, holds a special place in my heart. Countless visits with friends and family have left me full and satisfied. Their Tuna Melt, my favorite thing on the menu, is simple, gooey, and perfect in every way. While service can slow during busy times, it is overall excellent, and the servers are personable and attentive. Not quite a hole in the wall, Henk's exudes a charming authenticity. Don't miss their delightful bakery, offering delicious pastries and cakes. A must-visit for German-American food enthusiasts seeking a gratifying experience.

Yelp
used to love this place but they have hired some a holes that treat people like shxt. My daughter comes in for cake and loves the shavings, was rudely told no when I asked if I could pay for extra shavings. This individual also touched all on the inside of the box he was gonna put the cake in - come on man.

Yelp
Behind the Half Price Books, I didn't know this jem of a place! We only came here for dessert but I must come back to eat a meal. We couldn't decide what cake flavors to try so we Frankenstein two pieces of cake so we could try two flavors! Cake was moist, delicious, and stuffed with fruit. Perfect pairing with hot tea. The best Black Forest cake I've had in DFW!
google avatar

Yelp
Such a cute little German place! The Staff were super nice, the service was quick and the food was yummy! Overall a good experience! There's a nice little seating area to eat and then there's a little market to shop that also has the bakery. The bakery line was outside the door- so you know it must be good! We didn't have time to wait and try the bakery but we will definitely have to come back and try it! The sausage sampler plate was definitely my favorite!

Yelp
Went on September 10th. One of my favorite breakfast/lunch spots I highly recommend their Black Forest chicken and waffles, chicken schnitzel, and chicken pesto. And they have good German beers. The vibe is so fun and going shopping after for chocolates, liquor, and other treats is always pretty special for me. Service is good especially considering how busy they get. If I could I would go at least once a week.

Yelp
A small seat yourself restaurant with a bakery and store inside. Food and service was good. If you shop in the store make sure you check expiration dates. My friend bought some chocolate candy and later realized it was expired by months.
google avatar

Cathleen S.

Yelp
Line literally out the door for baked goods: prices are unmatched! German food is authentic and tasty. Waitstaff are experienced and very friendly. Dang! Now I'm hungry for their potato pancakes!!
google avatar

Thien N.

Yelp
Best black forest cake ever. Wasn't a fan of their fruit cake but maybe that's because I would want anything beside the tasty Black Forest!!! Parking may be tough.
google avatar

Yelp
Nothing not to love about this place! Lots of regulars, food always spot on. Best Reuben sandwich in town. Fresh bread and pretzels greet you . Stop by the bakery and grab dessert on your way out. You will never be disappointed!!!!

Yelp
I was excited to try this German spot...it was packed and the line for cakes went for some time. The staff, in particular a Latina woman, was very sweet and attentive. Had the Wiener Schnitzel and it was nothing like what I had when I visited Germany. It was flat, rough and pretty much bland. The potato cakes were better once we got sour cream for them. Also had the mocha cake, which tasted like angel cake with mocha cream. Maybe I'll go back to try their Black Forest cake and see if it's worth the hype, but definitely not for the food!

Dapper D.

Yelp
Throughly enjoyed the German potato salad and red cabbage, would have enjoyed a sauce with the weiner schnitzel. My husband loved the cold cut platter and the Black Forest cake was a big hit. The restaurant is low-key and feels intimate and welcoming. Service was quick and helpful when we had questions about the menu. The bakery and grocery were a lovely part two to our visit- they have a selection of European candies, condiments , snacks etc. and cakes, cookies
google avatar

Yelp
Always good service, always delicious food. My family loves coming here for breakfast, especially. They have the best omelets in town.
google avatar

Yelp
Your standard breakfast with the option for some fun European flair! Visited with my partner and another couple for a Saturday morning late breakfast - 10AM, breakfast is served until 11. It was pretty busy, but we were able to quickly find a table (self seating). It's a small space! I had the French toast with scrambled eggs and bacon, a side of hashbrowns, and a cold glass of 50/50 cranberry and apple juice. Again, super standard breakfast, god cheap prices. I got exactly what I expected, but the eggs were the worst I've ever had. Super dry and over cooked. I think a fried egg would've been good! I had a bite of my partner's biscuit and gravy, pretty tasty. A bite of a waffle - not like any waffle I've ever had, maybe it's more traditional European style, but I wasn't a huge fan. Really, the best part was the market side, we loved browsing all of the products after our meal. And I look forward to trying the bakery as well as lunch items!

Yelp
Never been here personally; the cake for my Dad's birthday was spot on!!! I look forward to stopping in for a meal.

Seiko M.

Yelp
I often go to this restaurant. It's nice place to have break fast. Their price, food, and customer service are really good.

Holli And Jarrod S.

Yelp
This place was on our hit list of European style cuisines we've been looking to try out in the DFW area. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon between 12-1pm. It was a little busy, but we were able to grab a seat at the bar immediately. The employees are moderately inviting. They're not rude, but the customer service could definitely use some improvement. You can immediately see the regulars are much more welcomed than newcomers. Often times your waitress will forget to check on you because they're spending a ton of time chatting it up with the regulars. If I managed the place I would advise splitting time between the regulars, but also making newcomers feel just as welcome. You might turn a newcomer into another regular. The weiner schnitzel was basically cardboard. Super thin, flavorless and dry. The Rueben was actually very good and so was the German potato salad. The sauerkraut and sausage tasted like what you would expect sauerkraut and sausage to taste like. Not bad, but nothing to write home about. Honestly I can't say after this experience we'll ever be back. I'm sure the regulars will keep this place afloat for years to come.

Yelp
E we want to love a place but it just doesn't hit the spot? That's this place. We pulled up and the parking lot was full, that's always a good sign, right? Lots of people at the bakery picking up cakes and such and we order a few things from the bakery before deciding to eat there. We are told to sit anywhere we like - we pick a seat and sadly the place needs some love. The booths are torn, part of the both seat is like a see-saw (where one person is balancing the other person) and I know we are in the middle of a pandemic but the customer service was subpar. We ordered the sausage sampler and it gets brought to the table. I have to catch the waitresses attention and ask her what am I eating. She seems like I'm taking her away from something more important. The sausage it's all cooked the same and most of the small bites are burnt. The sandwich - can you mess up a sandwich? Well yes you can - they burnt one side of the bread and tucked that side into the sandwich, however once you burn bread, it's done, it has that nasty burnt taste. I asked the waitress what all came on the sandwich and she missed a few things. Overall the meal was nothing spectacular and sadly I would of been ashamed to bring someone here who wanted good German food. This made me miss my mom even more because as a German this place has nothing on what I grew up on.

Yelp
Terrific German food, amazing bakery, great service!! Top notch in every way. Love their soups and salads too
google avatar

Nick E.

Yelp
Very disappointed. There is NO cherry liqueur (kirschwasser) in the cake! It is not a black forest cake without it. Fix this ASAP, otherwise stop calling it a "black forest cake".
google avatar

Travis W.

Yelp
We are writing this review jointly for both Black Forest Bakery and the Coffee Shop. The bakery is across the street from price books and we got a cinnamon roll which absolutely delivered. The coffee shop is inside HPB and has spacious seating, great service, and we got very tasty honey oat and hazelnut lattes. We'll be back for more baked goods and drinks! Travis' Ratings Taste - 4.5 Quality - 4.5 Ambiance - 4 Overall - 4.5 Isabel's Rating Taste - 4.5 Quality - 4.5 Ambiance - 4 Overall - 4.5

Yelp
Great friendly staff was traveling from the woodlands and missing German food. Large serving even some treats to take home.

Yelp
I ate here for the first time on St. Patrick's Day & had the corned beef and cabbage special. The atmosphere feels like home & very comfy. The food was so delicious! Can't wait to go back & try something else! I also bought some candies and baked goods that were phenomenal!!
google avatar

James Z.

Yelp
Black forest cake is delicious. Very moist and not overly sweet. Would highly recommend it!
google avatar

Lily Q.

Yelp
Pretty solid food, especially if you like German cuisine. This restaurant has a cozy atmosphere and is usually filled with people. They offer a variety of drinks and dishes, and this restaurant is connected to the cake shop so you can grab some cake/dessert as well. The Black Forest cake is a classic. Would recommend checking this place out!

Brandy J.

Yelp
So wonderful from the service to the food. So glad we finally made it in. The European Bakery is AMAZING. Love the Easy parking. Hands down 100% better than the other local German restaurant!!!! Thank you Hanneke for outstanding service. Everyone at our table can't wait to come back.

Trint T.

Yelp
The Swiss Madrisa is probably one of the best fruit cakes I've had in a long time! It checks all the boxes in a classic cake. Most cakes are usually too sweet for me so I am always impressed when I come across a cake with the perfect level of sweetness. The yellow sponge is incredibly moist like a tres leches. My favorite part was how generous they packed this cake with fruit. Every slice had multiple chunks of pineapple, kiwi, peaches and strawberry. Definitely recommend! I also had a slice of the Black Forest and it was just as delicious.
google avatar

Paula C.

Yelp
I've gone here a handful of time. The food is consistently great. Their sausage options are always delicious. The servers are all really nice and service is always fast and pleasant. Definitely walk around the little store and check out the options from the deli and bakery. The delicious baked goods go fast!
google avatar

Claire P.

Yelp
Henk's is a great place to go for a unique and delicious dining experience. My family and I selected a wide range of food and all of it was excellent. We also purchased some bread from the bakery and we're very impressed by it. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable. It felt very hole in the wall and like our little secret, even though it was pretty busy!

Marlene T.

Yelp
Fellow Germans wanting to try this place and gave it a go. The staff was friendly, great selection for shopping and cut meat but the food was far from authentic and not that great. However, if you're not from Germany then you may enjoy it. The bakery was packed with continuous line of ppl. They looked good, but again not traditional or authentic German. If we make the drive back it would be for their shipping selection and to try their cake which is about $4.50 a slice.
google avatar

Mario D.

Yelp
The most authentic Dutch restaurant in the DFW area, I have been coming here for 25 years never a bad meal. Also the bakery is absolutely over the top, daily fresh made cakes and pastries. Be sure to order in advance because the line is always out the door. Enjoy
google avatar

Candace J.

Yelp
Could had been better with a single cookie selling @ $.89. Very late 80's in Paris vibes. Hole in a wall.

Ralph L.

Yelp
Great food, great service very friendly people there. We ambience is one of old fashion diner which I like.
google avatar

Don R.

Yelp
Love this place. Disclaimer: we only had the food, but the line for the bakery was ridiculous and that's because their bakery is apparently amazing‍. The employ are very nice and helpful, and the draft beer is cold. Plan ahead, because this place is packed!!
google avatar

Brennah L.

Yelp
Let me start off by saying this was my first meal of my birthday celebration and I loved that I started it off here. We got two plates to share. The waffle and the chicken schnitzel! Both were amazing! The bacon was super thick and crispy, which we loved! The waffle is light and delicious. And the strawberries on top make it even better. They are smaller waffles than most places but the quality is amazing. They are Dutch waffles the server said, so they have a vanilla taste! We could taste it. It was a refreshing taste to have in between the rich bacon and chicken! The eggs were cooked perfectly! I got over medium and my boyfriend got over easy. As for the chicken schnitzel, it was juicy inside and a light crunch on the outside! I absolutely loved it! I would love to live in Dallas, just so we could eat here and try all of their food! I've loved schnitzel since we went to Germany. This place is the best. The coffee tasted good. It was an enjoyable cup of joe that I even got a few refills. Most breakfast places have coffee that is just ehh, but this coffee was amazing. The hash browns were crispy and there were no soggy spots. It was really the perfect birthday meal! They even have a little shopping area inside where you can buy German goods like candy, spices, and snacks. We love this place!

Vera P.

Yelp
Yummy deli and cakes. The grocery store is very small but has a lot of German and Dutch items. Their brats and potato salad are very good and wait staff is friendly. Clean place.
google avatar

Chalene F.

Yelp
I've only had their desserts but I came back for more! All the classics! Love their Black Forest gâteau!
google avatar

Katherine K.

Yelp
The food is great and fresh, the ambiance feels very local and small-town which is nice in a big city, and the service has always been amazing in my experience no matter how busy it is.
google avatar

Dina C.

Yelp
This place has great charms! It's a cute little European diner packed with people on a Wednesday lunch. Despite being busy, still easy to find a spot to seat, server greeted us and served water right away. We got some time to look over the menu, decided to order the lunch plates. I'm not that familiar with European dishes but the Wiener schnitzel and grilled bratwurst were great, not too salty and paired well with sauerkrauts! The potato salad was a surprised, wasn't expecting it to be warm but I enjoyed it as well, first time for everything! We got some dessert to go. Overall great experience, I love unique places like this, it's like I travel to a different country!
google avatar

Lisa T.

Yelp
I grew up in Germany. The staff was super nice but the food did not taste very German.
google avatar

Roberto C.

Yelp
German food in idea, but quite bad execution. The German mart is cute, even though it has more Bulgarian and Dutch products than German ones. Nothing special really.
google avatar

Mariella T.

Yelp
The brötchen is not authentic, just regular bread and the Gouda brötchen has too much cheese. The shop in the back is nice and has a good selection (seasonings etc). Streaming the euros was a great touch and this would be the reason I'd return- though I would try something else on the menu.
google avatar

Christina B.

Yelp
Always good German food. Love the Reuben on rye, love their Spoetzl, love their schnitzel. Always a little crowded because everyone knows it's a great place. Try the black forest cake that's a must

Maggie N.

Yelp
Got the Black Forest cake with cherry filling and it was great for my boyfriend's birthday cake! The icing was a bit overpowering sweetness wise, but the service and staff were very friendly!
google avatar

Yelp
Wow! Henk's definitely lives up to the hype. This place is wonderful in every sense of the word for cakes (haven't tried the European Deli/Restaurant but hopefully will soon). I was in such a rush to buy a last minute cake and was assisted by the sweetest and most attentive worker who tried their best to help me. The vibe is very similar to Cracker Barrel, there's a restaurant with dine-in seating on one side, and a little store that sells knick-knacks, cards, toys, and gifts, on the other with the bakery. They open at 7 AM Monday to Saturday (10 AM Sunday), and the place was packed when I got there at 8:30 AM! I have tried several of their cakes before at other parties and had to get my own! Yes they have ready made cakes, but the majority of them are the fruit flavored ones as the chocolate cakes are the first ones to go if you don't get there early enough to grab one. To reserve your preferred flavor, they only require TWO DAYS NOTICE, and can customize to your desire. A six inch cake is only $22 and serves 4-6 people! 8" $28.00 serves 10 - 12 10" $38.00 serves 15 - 20 12" $49.00 serves 25 - 30 Definitely one of the more affordable custom cake places in Dallas. Their German Chocolate cake is definitely their most delicious, but you MUST pre-order it as they never have them ready-made. Other popular flavors include Cherry Black Forest, Mocha Buttercream, Cocolate Amaretto, Swiss Madrisa I wanted their Hazelnut Buttercream cake which was already gone by the time I got there, the worker was so sweet and tried to see if it was possible for me to get one made same day. Unfortunately it didn't work out but her willingness to try and work with me definitely was very appreciated! Lesson learned to Pre-order!

Yelp
One the localest of local spots in Dallas. Had the pleasure of chowing down on some post-church brunch schnitzel on an autumn Sunday afternoon. Reminiscent of some of the delis and diners I miss back in New Jersey, and that's totally a good sign. Grab some European groceries to take as little "souvenirs' on your way home
