Ok.... Freshly arrived into Atlanta, and this guy HAD to get something good and local. First thought? The Varsity - then remembered I tried it back in pre-Covid times and wasn't impressed- then I remembered that my friends had recommended this place and made a bee-line toMidtown.
After noting they had free parking - a plus, natch - I then saw this fantastic outdoor deck.....after getting out of the car I then felt the chill of the early evening air and scotched that idea- I went inside, sadly explained my "just one" when asked "how many?"; then was led to a lonely small two seat table in the bar. While the location was fine, the lack of a napkin and tableware felt,at first blush, a pointed reminder that I was a sad, lone, solo diner in an otherwise trendy and gay-friendly neighborhood.
Seeking liquid sustenance- aka local brew -I asked for a local IPA on tap. What came was a can. And a glass. Apparently that was "tap" beer? I poured it out, found the taste quite agreeable, and ordered:
Chicken tenders - and requested the fries be replaced with mashed potatoes- alrighty!
Then I ordered Henry's Chili, which quickly arrived with cheese and red onions (!) - not knowing you, I can tell you that though I love red onions the flavor lingers in my breath for days - so do try to avoid them. But I scraped off what I could and enjoyed the apparently house made Chili - and yes, I enjoyed!
But the tenders.... Not only arrived with my substitution mashed taters, but also came with French fries - not"quite" what I'd requested, but... I ate ''em anyway. The chicken wasn't memorable but both types of taters were indeed "very good".
So.... Loved the location, the ambiance..... but only the chili would be highly recommended. Yet, I'd go again, as I can't wait to try the fantastic outdoor patio on a warm night.
