I finally had the chance to try Hero or Villain after missing out during a work event—and WOW, was it worth the wait! I ordered The King Pin: chicken, mozzarella, spinach, tomatoes, and pesto aioli on grilled sourdough. It was perfectly toasted and absolutely bursting with flavor—honestly one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in a long time, maybe even ever! The staff was super friendly and the service was quick and efficient. And the food was served hot and exactly to order! I live over an hour away, and I will absolutely make the drive just for their sandwiches again. That should tell you everything you need to know—totally worth it! If you're looking for bold, delicious food and a great experience, Hero or Villain does not disappoint. Highly recommend! Please go and experience a Hero or Villain sandwich, I promise, you will thank me!

Google
Great place for a quick lunch, wife and I got Thor, and kingpin 2 of the most popular sandwiches we also got 1 of the specials elastigirl and these was great for just a veggie and cheese think of it as a special grill cheese, yum!

Google
Very kind staff and great food! I have tried a few different things from the menu and have yet to be disappointed. My favorite so far has been the Harley Quinn breakfast sandwich. The staff is very helpful and accommodating customizations to menu items. I would definitely recommend checking this place out!

Google
We've loved this food truck for years, so we were excited to learn that they opened a shop! Everything was delicious, as usual, and there was a great area to sit and enjoy our sandwiches. Plus, there are a couple of arcade games in the back, so bring some quarters! We look forward to returning with family and friends.

Google
Creative menu, friendly service, and rotating monthly specials all contribute to making this place a great addition to downtown Ferndale. We've also booked their foodtruck for several events, and have to say, they are that rare unicorn in the foodtruck industry that delivers reliability, a flexibilty that accomodates both vegans and carnivors, and absolute professionalism. We adore these folks.

Google
The food was good and the service was very good! They make a pretty decent sandwich. Brookie and fries were good, but I think you can get a better sandwich other places.

Google
My fiancé and I went to The Grand Opening at Legacy 925 in Oxford, MI. Hero or Villain was one of the food trucks here and the food was amazing! The truck has been to my work previously but I never had a chance to try it. We ordered the Captain Planet (Vegetarian), Deathstroke (Philly), and the Bowcaster fries. The fries were amazing and had really great flavor. Both sandwiches had great taste and great prices. The food came out in a matter of minutes! You can lookup their menu on Instagram @heroorvillainmenu and follow their locations @heroorvillainvan. Both accounts are great for seeing the latest updates for the food truck! We can’t wait to come across them Again and enjoy their amazing sandwiches! Keep up the great work guys!

Google
Would not recommend this restaurant for catering and vendor services. This company did not properly inform patrons that they have to stop serving food once they reach the maximum capacity at an event that was paid for in advance. People stood in line for almost 45 minutes and were turned away by this company. Bad business for catering.

Yelp
I found this place on accident while searching for a "lunch spot near me" today. I am so glad I did!! I got the Thor sandwich and the Woki fries. Both were probably the best I've ever had. I'm not really a fry person so I'm not sure what possessed me to even get them. However, I'm so glad I did. They are almost Arby's fries (flavor wise) meets waffle fries-making them my new favorite. Pretty neatly decorated inside too. Staff was friendly and even refunded me the $2 off Thursday Thor sandwich when I had no idea. I will for sure be back to try other sandwiches (or maybe I'll stick with the Thor again-who knows!)

Yelp
Yum! The food truck was downtown yesterday, and I'm so glad I stopped by. I had the Captain America with bacon which is basically a fancy grilled cheese with tomatoes and bacon. Perfectly toasty and melty and savory. Delish! All of the sandwiches sound good - I actually wanted their special, but they ran out of brie. Next time! I also really want to try their loaded fries.

Yelp
We stopped by the food truck while it was downtown in Campus Martius and really enjoyed it! I got the Kingpin sandwich and was happy to see that gluten-free bread was an option. The theming was cute, and we probably waited 10 minutes in (a long) line, and then 10 minutes for our food. Overall, a nice stop for lunch while at work!

Yelp
I'm not much of a sandwich girl, but they brought their food truck to Nordstrom so I tried it. They said the Thor was the most popular so I tried that with provolone instead of cheddar. It was excellent! The staff was also super friendly! Here is a pic after I ate 1/2.

Yelp
While planning our accounting firm's Summer Leadership Program, I wanted to find a lunch option that would satisfy a variety of dietary needs -- from picky eaters to those with food allergies or vegan/vegetarian preferences. Hero or Villain exceeded all expectations. The food was outstanding, and the attention to detail was impressive. Guests with dietary restrictions were especially appreciative of the thoughtful accommodations, including non-dairy cheese, gluten-free bread, and more. Rich and Jillian made the entire process seamless, and their customer service was top-tier from start to finish. They flawlessly delivered over 60 sandwiches, and both students and staff left raving about their meals. Thank you, Hero or Villain, for helping make our event a success!

Yelp
Can you say HERO or Villains for the win! WOW, what an amazing day even with the rain, this food truck brought a smile to everyone's day. I always say that my teachers are heroes without capes so the theme of this truck was so fitting. Every year, I try to do something extra special for my staff. This year, I booked the Hero Or Villain Food Truck. I was able to select 6 different sandwiches for my staff to choose from and options such as loaded fries & soft drinks. These sandwiches were the BOMB! Freshly made and grilled with such unique options: Blackfire (Steak, bacon, egg, mozz, grilled peppers, onion & drizzled with a spicy sriracha mayo), Thor (Turkey, bacon & Cheddar, mayo), Kingpen (Grilled Chicken, mozzarella & pesto aioli), Captain Planet (Marinated Mushrooms, Grilled Onions, Mozz, Red Pepper & pesto aioli), Deathstroke (Steak, grilled peppers, provolone, onion & mayo), Hawkeye (Turkey, swiss, sauerkraut, pickles, 1000 island dressing). These sandwiches were served on grilled sourdough, marble rye or a hoagie bun. My favorite was Thor but the Hawkeye was equally as delicious. I didn't have a chance to try all of them but everyone was raving about their sandwiches. The two ladies working the food truck were amazing. Serving up 50+ sandwiches in 1 1/2 hours was seamless. I've been told that this food truck travels all over the place. If you are lucky enough to try them, trust me, you will be in sandwich heaven! If you are booking an event, I highly recommend Hero or Villain Food Truck. Until next time, #catwoman

Yelp
I'm not gonna lie, I was lured in by the sign that said "Food Network's Top 25 food trucks." The ratings online were good to so I gave it a try. I ordered the kingpin. It really was super yummy! The bread was perfectly toasted. It was so savory and tasty. I split it with my mom, so later when I was a bit hungry again after walking around Eastern market, I had to go back a second time and get the pesto, turkey, avocado one (forgot the name). It was just as tasty and yummy. Also the workers are nice and the food truck itself is so cute. So many stickers and super hero figurines and knick knacks.

Yelp
Yo! Hero or villain? New landmark "HQ" location located inside the same building as Ferndale's treat dreams. Honestly the whole vibe is dope and they have a great selection of sandwiches. I came for meillie(another new location) but honestly there's some great synergy of them being next to each other as you can easily get a snack (or side of fries) right next door. Service was great, friendly greetings and warm smiles all around.

Yelp
Heading up towards Troy from Dearborn I knew I had to take a slight detour. Hot giardiniera, tons of feta, and sriracha mayo come together in the form of the Bowcaster Fries. This Wookiee sized side cannot be missed. It's the perfect combo of spice and salty goodness and far different from any other fry toppings I've ever had. It's different but different is darn good.

Yelp
I'm a comic book nerd so I was drawn to this truck for obvious reasons. Cute nostalgic setup here with superhero figurines our front. I indulged on the Kingpin which is a chicken sandwich and I added bacon. It was quite tasty. The combo comes with waffle fries. Overall it was filling, presented nicely and not too much of a wait time. What lost a star for me was when I'm seeing fries come out with this amazing looking aoli on them. I wasn't presented that upgrade to my fries or I sure as heck would have paid the cost to make that happen!! I'd patronize again as the staff was super friendly and food size was worth the cost.

Yelp
I have seen this food truck several times, but I had never had the chance to actually order any of the food. I finally had the opportunity to try it. I must admit, I was a bit of a skeptic. My child got the Captain America without tomato, which is a grilled cheese sandwich on sourdough bread, and I got the loaded waffle fries, whose name I have forgotten. It was waffle fries with feta cheese, pickled vegetables, and sriracha mayo. It was absolutely delicious. I must say I was surprised. Those were some memorable fries! I would order them over and over again, so delicious. I brought the leftovers home, and my other child loved them so much, she asked me when I had time to go to one of our favorite restaurants during work hours. They tasted so fresh, she thought they were from a popular place we often frequent. Plus, that child would have never eaten that combination in the past with the pickled vegetables and spicy sauce mixed into food, but that way they prepared this dish was so appealing, she finished it. I did not get a chance to try to grilled cheese sandwich, but my kid reported that it was very good, and reminded her of school lunch. This is not at all an insult, she loves school lunch and misses it very much! The truck brought some much needed nostalgia to a kid who misses school. It seems that the truck makes food to order which is why there was quite a line and a bit of a wait once the food was ordered, but that is not a bad thing unless you had a limited lunch hour. We were on a time crunch, but luckily I had more time to wait and retrieve the food so my child could get back to her responsibilities. I saw some flyers about this truck coming around my neighborhood as well for dinner. The wait would be less worrisome for a dinner time compared to the lunch time rush.

Yelp
I found this truck at the mo pop music fest in Detroit, there were so many food trucks to choose from I won't lie I walked around for a bit just kind of looking at different options. I'll admit the outside of the truck with the comic characters drew me in. Happy that I chose this one! The service was super quick! With that amount of people I was impressed that they kept it moving so quick and didn't make it feel like you were a bother. Say what you will about sandwich's but I think they are the best thing, and especially with an all day event such as a music fest. I had the delicious king pin sandwich! I loved the chicken, mozzarella, tomatoes and pesto aloli on sourdough it was so enjoyable and the perfect combination of everything on a sandwich, just what I needed to have a full day of fun at the mo pop festival, I'd certainly have them again given the chance.

Yelp
Hero or Villain is my favorite food truck ever. I love them so much I periodically check their schedule and chase them around. A friend posted on social media a food truck schedule for her neighborhood and when I spotted my fav listed, I put the date in my phone so I wouldn't miss out. I always get the Captain Planet because it is flavorful AF and full of veggie goodness. I have tried to replicate it at home because it's just that good. My husband ordered Thor tonight and raves about the bread. Both sandwiches are loaded and delicious. And do not pass up those waffle fries! Love you guys. Thank you for brightening up our Tuesday evening.

Yelp
Easily one of the best steak subs in the area. Very friendly staff and nice setup as well.
google avatar

Melencia J.

Yelp
That portabella sandwich was soooooooo good. The dressing and onions on the toasted bun... Finger licking good. Also had the waffle fries. Omg. A perfect choice. I will search the earth for a better portabella sandwich but I doubt I'll find it. I may move to Detroit to eat this sandwich again...nah...But really it was the best thing I've eaten in Detroit on my brief trip so far.

Yelp
Yummm. You had me at sour dough. Came here on my lunch break when they were parked in Cadillac Square. The line will intimidate you but trust me it's worth it. I came around noon, waited in line about 5 minutes and waited for my food around 15 minutes. That's about the average time you will wait at any of the trucks on a busy lunch hour. I had the Green Ranger. A blend of turkey, avacado, cheddar, romaine, tomato and pesto aoli on perfectly grilled sourdough bread. The sandwiches are huge, I could hardly eat all mine. I'm pretty sure the Green Ranger is popular because as I was standing there they removed the sign for it. This is one of the best food trucks with friendly service and amazing food.

Yelp
Thanos wins again or at least that is how it felt after eating at hero or villain at the drifter coffee brunch event this Sunday! My girlfriend ordered the wonder women and after waiting for 30 minutes in the pouring rain they decided it was time to let us know they had ran out of eggs an hour and a half into the event so she ordered the eveecado toast which is about as uninspired an item menu that I can think of but I digress it's toast it is what it is! I ordered the gambit which was good other then that my French toast buns were good and burnt and it really ruined the sandwich for me. If you do decide to go to I would only order the bow caster as those were actually quite good. I would not be eating here anytime soon.

Heather M.

Yelp
This was our second round with the Hero or Villain food truck, soooooo good the first time around we had to schedule a second round. Communication was great (thanks Darren!) from initial inquiry thru the whole booking process, the truck arrived in expected time frame and was ready to serve at noon on the dot as requested, the staff was friendly, and the sandwiches were FANTASTIC!! The theme (Hero or Villain) was added fun for our employee luncheon.

David L.

Yelp
Best steak sandwich i've ever eaten. I will certainly be back over this summer.

Yelp
Super yummy food! The menu is very creative and it is all stuff that you can't really get anywhere else! I loved walking up to the truck and spotting all the cool action figures and bumper stickers. It is a treat for the eyes while your stomach grumbles in anticipation! I ordered the Megaman and The Hubs ordered the Mario. The bread on both was great!!! the Megaman was awesome! So simple, yet so good! The bacon was great. The Hubs really enjoyed his Mario. You could put capicola on anything and he'd be happy. We ordered onion rings, they were just frozen, but not the worst I'd ever had. Better Made Chips & Faygo FTW!! It was really busy, but the wait wasn't too long and the staff was really nice. If I spot them around town again, I would stop in a heartbeat!

Yelp
Went to the van at the Ferndale Pride Festival! We got the sinister under the villain menu since we're vegetarian. Added a fried egg for a dollar. So so delicious! Slightly $$$, but normal pricing for a food truck. Would def come back to try the other sandwiches!!!

Yelp
I'm a sucker for food trucks because you will find either one or the majority of the items on a limited menu unique. Food trucks tend to experiment more than restaurants and even more than us home cooks. Hero or Villain is no different. Honestly, I've avoided this food truck for the past year or so since I've learned of its existence. I didn't think anything was special because if I wanted a sandwich, I'd go to a deli. However, I finally tried it during the Winter Blast and I must say I absolutely enjoyed my sandwich. The coolest thing about this establishment is that it's pretty much a food truck disguised as a comic book/toy shop. It doesn't look like something you'd go crazy over and it doesn't necessarily look the cleanest. However, it is the most unique because they do dress it up in action figures that represents characters from comic books and pop culture. I appreciate that because most food trucks would go for the fancy design and this one seems more down-to-earth, and it's accurate in regard what it's representing. Another cool thing about this food truck is the fact that their rotating menu have items named after various superheroes and villains. What I ordered was the Megatron (of Transformers fame). Thin slices of roast beef and turkey, smothered in sautéed onions, Swiss cheese, tomatoes, romaine lettuce, mayo and a special mustard...all sandwiched in buttery toasted multigrain bread. On paper it doesn't sound like anything special, and even the look of it didn't wow me. However, the moment it touched my mouth and made its way to my belly, it definitely WOWed me. I didn't want to finish because I wanted to take it home and eat it in front of my brother and brag about it. However, I did finish it and if it didn't cost $9-10, I would've bought another one. But I can see this place being around for a while, so I'll have other chances. The staff was very friendly. However, the one knock I have against it is the fact that they don't offer anything to drink. They offer fries as a side, but no soda, bottled water, etc. If you're in the food business, you can't limit yourself. Most people want a meal, and if I have to go elsewhere for something to drink, I might as well just order my meal at the other place. However, that aside, I am a fan and would like to make another visit...and soon.

Yelp
The people who work in this van are true heroes. The sandwiches (chicken pesto and mushroom) were excellent. The loaded waffle fries were delicious and fry box was so loaded with fries, feta, and pickled pepper goodness that we had to save some for lunch the next day. After a few minutes in the oven, the leftovers were outstanding too.
google avatar

Lauren M.

Yelp
I recently tried Hero or Villain food truck at Mo Pop music festival. I (literally) stumbled upon their van after hours of dancing like a fool in a dirt field in 90 degree weather fueled by nothing more than overpriced craft beer and free shots of Mike's Hard Lemonade (HEY IT WAS FREE OKAY), so needless to say I was famished...and their food could not have hit the spot more! I got the Thor sandwich + avocado and the Bowcaster fries which have feta, giardiniera, and sriracha mayo. Both were so savory and delightfully perfect. I am lucky I had the forethought to take these pics because I literally DEVOURED this meal. I will definitely be on the lookout for this food truck in the future!
google avatar

Real A.

Yelp
Hero Or Villain is super awesome! I grabbed some delicious, chewy waffle fries from their food truck when they were parking in my work's parking lot yesterday. I didn't care for any of the sandwich selections, as I am a picky eater, but they were super nice and the fries were delicious!
google avatar

Juliet K.

Yelp
Parked in Downtown Detroit today - had the CAPTAIN PLANET sandwich - portobello mushrooms were juicy and a great combo to the red peppers, caramelized onions and pesto. Sandwiches are good sized but I got a side of their onion rings (Lion-O's) and waffle fries (Chewy's) -- They will do a split HALF HALF order for you if you ask!! Worth it!! Friendly staff. Ketchup and mustard available for your sides. Fun names and good sandwiches. Would go again if I saw it rolling by!

K J.

Yelp
I used them for a company lunch. I have heard nothing but raves from our employees on the food. Each person had to wait 5 - 10 minutes once they placed the order but they said the wait was well worth it! The gentleman that showed up to cook and serve were professional and helpful. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Hannah R.

Yelp
So I'm not commenting about their sandwiches. This is because when I went to the truck, I had just started my paleo diet i.e. no bread. They were very flexible and grilled me up some chicken, spinach, and onions with oil & vinegar. My coworker ordered their "Bobby Drake" sandwich which looked amazing!! Turkey or chicken, bacon, mascarpone and blueberry preserves on sourdough. YUM!
google avatar

Carolyn M.

Yelp
I love the idea of food trucks. There are so many out there and I just want to try them all. Hero or Villain was the first food truck I have ever eaten at. You can say they broke my food truck cherry and Ohh did they satisfy;) I tried the Kingpin which was chicken, mozzarella, tomato, spinach, aioli on sourdough. That first bite hit my tongue and how pleasantly surprised was I when I experienced a big burst of flavor? Well it made my eyebrows rise but I inhaled that sandwich like I had not eaten in days. I enjoyed my lunch sitting in the sun surrounded by the skyscrapers of downtown Detroit. Would I try them again? Absolutely. Should you try them? Absolutely! And tell them Carolyn sent you... It actually won't do anything for you to say it but it sounded cool :)
google avatar

L. Barrington A.

Yelp
Oh my goodness. Their deathstroke sandwich is absolutely incredible. Full of flavor. Fresh tasting. Different from your average garden-variety sandwich truck. If you're in Detroit and you see this truck stop them and get a sandwich!
google avatar

Shane S.

Yelp
Everything is good! Difficult to make a decision on what to order. O-rings are delicious and Riddler's too. The Gluten Free Bread, you would never know is Gluten Free.
google avatar

Lisa W.

Yelp
Late night dining at Movement .... Hero or Villain food truck was the perfect dining stop, the Mario Italian on a Hoagie for me and BLT on sourdough for my friend. Both Excellent Back to the music womp womp womp
google avatar

Lynne S.

Yelp
The BLT was definitely the best BLT I've had...the way you imagine it should be. Perfectly thin crispy bacon, juicy tomato and lettuce, soft and toasty sourdough, and just the right amount of mayo. The perfect example of something simple that is not simple at all. A little birdie said they would be at Saturday & Sunday Eastern Market starting soon...
google avatar

Carl R.

Yelp
Great sandwiches ! I had the Thor sandwich (turkey bacon, lettuce tomato mayo on sourdough bread, excellent!! Will be back !
google avatar

An V.

Yelp
Hero or Villain is a perfect example of a food truck doing it right. They toast the sourdough perfectly giving the sandwich a satisfying bite. Every single sandwich I've had from them is awesome, but my favorite would have to be the Kingpin. The pesto is delicious and the texture of the chicken is great. The service is also blazing fast. I've had Hero or Villain many times and they always hit it out of the park!

Kenzis M.

Yelp
This is by far one of my favorite food trucks i've been to. The employees were very kind and the menu is fantastic. Highly recommend the waffle fries and appreciated that the togo containers were not styrofoam! Overall I would definitely recommend stopping by this truck if you get the chance. Service was welcoming and food was great! Will be going again
google avatar

Mia S.

Yelp
The workers were very nice and polite and even though there were a lot of people they got our order out rather quickly. The food was delicious as well. I definitely recommend the kingpin and waffle fries.
google avatar

Jill D.

Yelp
Hero or Villain was on WSU campus today, and my friend Jes and I got food on the way back to the office. I had the Drax with steak, portabellas, red onion, cheese (mozz??), and the yummiest mustard on rye. It was sublime. The rye is grilled and perfect, the sandwich was the perfect size, the meat fresh and delicious. The people in the truck are super cool and friendly too. Just a joy. Can't wait to eat their food next time!
google avatar

James R.

Yelp
Usually get the Thor when they show up for Slow Roll. Great sandwich, friendly staff, fair price and pretty quick service. Better stuff than fast food.
google avatar

Brittany B.

Yelp
Had a turkey sandwich with cherry jam and it was the best/most unique sandwich I've had the pleasure to enjoy. Would most definitely frequent this truck
google avatar

Clarita S.

Yelp
Tasted their chicken tacos once and ive been searching for them every since! Absolutely delicious! But where could i find you on a regular basis?

Jonathan B.

Yelp
I had the kingpin - sourdough bread was fresh and nicely toasted, aioli was great - all fresh ingredients.
google avatar

J C.

Yelp
Fun theme. Found out about them at a company catered event. I'm not a big fan of deli meat sandwiches (they did not offer chicken breast at the event), but they did have a nicer veggie option than most of the sandwich places I've tried. Also there were both traditional and unique sandwiches. I was glad they offered a side of sweet potatoes, in addition to the more traditional fries or onion rings.
google avatar

Matthew T.

Yelp
Try the Mario and the loaded fries both are amazing. I've been there several times over the last year and it's always great.

Jackie P.

Yelp
Amazing!! Hero Or Villain catered my grad party. From the first email contact until the last sandwich was served they were attentive and helpful. But most importantly - the food was delicious. Kingpin and Hawkeye were the party favorites. I would definitely recommend them for a special event - you will not be disappointed!
google avatar

Nancy Z.

Yelp
I'm a little late because Tigers' Opening Day was absolute chaos & I forgot all about reviewing this amazing Food Truck. Needless to say, there were many food trucks out on Opening Day & this one definitely caught my attention so I ordered the Mega Man & added a fried egg. The meat was perfectly cooked to order and the fried egg was flawless which I was a little worried about considering they were sooooo busy. Having the kind of line Opening Day can get you, maintaining a friendly and informative demeanor, taking that extra second to add suggestions, && making flawless food is why I give them 5 stars!
google avatar

Christina B.

Yelp
Had a Frieza with bacon when they first opened a couple weeks ago, now I'm hooked. It's a blueberry mascarpone with mozzarella and spinach. Unlike anything I've ever seen! Tastes amazing! Love the theme and the crew is really nice

Rebecca J.

Yelp
These guys are amazing. I used them for my wedding and I could not have chosen a better truck. They provided us with 5 sandwiches and they were all delicious. My guests were so happy with them and they served the entire dinner service with a smile.

M P.

Yelp
FABULOUS food! And crew! We had Hero Or Villain food truck at our son's graduation party in Ann Arbor. The food and service was unparalleled. Every sandwich is five stars. Very fresh, incredibly delicious ingredients. They happily accommodated all of our picky guests. I really can't express how happy we were with everything. Amazing job, Kevin and crew! Heartiest thank you for making this grad party the absolute best. We will be hiring you again and again, along with all of our neighbors/friends.
