The 38 Best Restaurants in Baltimore | Eater DC

"This South Baltimore haven from siblings Josh and Stephanie Hershkovitz claimed its place as the city’s top pizza destination when it opened over 10 years ago. The classic wood-fired Neapolitan margherita is a quintessential masterpiece, with rich red sauce and melted mozzarella on a chewy, stretchy, lightly spotted dough. Crispy cauliflower, burrata, meatballs, and other pizza and pasta are particularly wonderful when enjoyed near the near the wood-fired oven or out on the patio." - Jess Mayhugh

Sibling-run and fiercely local, Hersh’s turns out wood-fired Neapolitan pies and hand-made pastas that keep Riverside neighbors loyal. Spotlighted by Baltimore Magazine, it’s equal parts pizzeria and serious Italian kitchen.

We had the best meal on our visit to Baltimore at Hersh's! I had a pizza - Lari B was delicious! The Stracciatella was amazing! Our waitress was the best-so attentive, she gave me a sample of wine to see if I would like it, she refilled our water and other drinks! What an amazing place! We loved it!

Chris, the chief and, the staff at Hersh’s are absolutely incredible! We started going to Hersh’s when we moved to the neighborhood a few years ago and it’s one of our favorite spots in the city. In fact, we loved it so much that we hosted our rehearsal dinner there and it was a 12 out of 10!

Google
Hersh's did not disappoint! I did not get a pic of the foccacia bread appetizer, but it was the bread service I've had. We ordered the Salami Mommy pizza and the Meatball Calzone. Both were fantastic. The cocktails were nice but very small. Their take on Egg Nog with tequila and sherry was a bit of a miss for me. The food more than made up for it. I may stick with wine here next time. This will be a definite add-in to our rotation.

Back to Hersh's for date night and still very satisfied. I cannot not get something off the homemade pasta menu. Tried the Rye-violi this time and it was fantastic. The bite and flavors were amazing. Stayed for dessert and that's never a bad idea. Plenty of unique cocktail/wine/beer selections. Great staff and awesome atmosphere. Can't wait to come back! Highly recommend!

Google
I was really happy with my visit to this restaurant! The interior is warm and cozy, with soft, pleasant lighting. I didn’t expect to get a green pasta — I was a bit skeptical at first. But once I tried it — it was love! Flavorful, not too heavy, filling, and garlicky. I also ordered blue cheese on the side and a classic daiquiri. The staff were lovely.

I am so glad that we stumbled upon this amazing restaurant! We were driving through Baltimore on our trip back to Boston and were looking for a place to eat dinner. Let me tell you - if you asked me to describe the perfect dinner experience, this is what I would have described. The ambiance, the cocktails, the food - all top notch! The homemade pasta was amazing and the cocktail was made to perfection. Also, great happy hour specials! Highly recommend! Oh and the patio is dog friendly!

Google
Hersh’s is a great date night restaurant in South Baltimore serving up Italian style dishes in a cozy and intimate environment. My wife and I went here on a double date with close friends and we had a fantastic time. All of the food is homemade and tastes amazing. The staff was so friendly and hard working. Our friends held their rehearsal dinner here a few months back and the Manager surprised us with an extra appetizer as a thank you which is a testament to their service and overall business.

Google
Such a great restaurant in a tucked away corner of south Baltimore. Menu is tight and all the offerings are executed to perfection. Pizzas are always a great option. Service is very strong; attentive without being overbearing. Highly recommend

Yelp
Incredible restaurant. My wife and I heard about Hersh's and decided to give it a try. We WILL be back!! The menu is not huge but the food is delicious. Pizzas the specialty. I got the Chicken Parm, my standard at every restaurant that offers it. Was great. And the desserts are fantastic!! The waitstaff was wonderful. Attentive. Polite. Nice. Couldn't ask for better.. Looks like Hersh's is in a part of the city that's being 'rejuvenated' from old run-down buildings to modern newer ... everything. Some local neighborhoods as well as businesses. It's easy to find. Parking, though, ... plan to drive down the road a bit and walk back a block or three. Not at all bad though.

Yelp
Hot damn. Baltimore is no slouch when it comes to great pizza options (Little Donna's, DiPasquale's, Diamondback) but Hersh's brings the heat. Tucked away in sleepy Riverside, this spot is well worth a trip from the metro-area suburbs. We started out with the Caesar salad and some drinks. I really enjoyed the well-crafted old fashioned and the Caesar was super fresh and flavorful (no small feat for a menu stalwart). Don't be afraid to squeeze the whole lemon wedge, as your tastebuds will be rewarded with a zingy, creamy flavor that combines beautifully with the fresh crunch of romaine. This town is lousy with good pasta and pizza options. If you are on the fence, just order both because Hersh's is ready to stand and deliver some bangers. I'm a Carbonara fiend and can't get enough of a good Neapolitan crust. Our pasta was delightfully homey, fresh, and tasty while the pizza sported beautiful blisters from the wood oven with a look worthy of Instagram and a flavor worthy of multiple Yelp stars. The L'Ari B pizza had fresh arugula, creamy straciatella, and flavorful balsamic with crumbly sausage to boot. If you like a Neapolitan pie, this one merits your attention. You'd better have something special going if you are offering staples like pizza, pasta, and cocktails in this town. Hersh's answers the call and really has something for everyone. Service was also attentive without being overbearing, and it's a great combo of indoor and outdoor space. Bravo!

Yelp
Finally! I've been waiting for what seems like forever to try Hersh's and it did not disappoint. Before we begin, you should always shoot to have a reservation before trying your luck with a walk in. Inside is beautiful but it is not a big spot. Service and the cocktails were great, but the food totally stole the show. The pizza is amazing and all the other entrees that passed our table looked delicious too. Hersh's had great wine selection and the Something Green cocktail was delightful. Be sure to give it a try before they close for the season!

Yelp
I haven't been to Hersh's in about 5 years due to consistently bad service. Tried it again for a friends birthday and while there were some improvements, it's clear some training is still needed and some issues are unresolved. For what it's worth, at 5pm on a Friday it was completely empty for about an hour. No one there for happy hour? Not a good sign in Baltimore. We split the stracciatella, which was actually incredible and I would highly recommend. For pizzas - we split a Salami Mommy and an Il pagliacci. Both were also good. The service was strange for how empty they were. I arrived about 30 min before my friends and simply asked if I could sit at a table outside with a drink while I waited. Then, when they arrived, we'd all move inside to our previously reversed table. They seemed baffled and noted there were reservations outside at the tables for right now. Again, restaurant is empty. They said they would check. Miraculously they were able to find a table that no one would be seated at for the next 30 min. As I sat for 30 min alone, not one single person came to sit outside. Why the confusion? Not sure. Truly the reason for the mediocre review is the petty, sneaky cake cutting fee. We brought a small cake. I have no problem with a cake cutting fee if there's a large party with a large cake as it takes time to do so. But even then, let the table know when you offer. We had THREE people and the server offered to cut the cake (didn't note there was a cake cutting fee... why?) and didn't even cut the whole cake!!! It was a small Bundt cake and he cut 3 pieces and left the rest whole. I thought he was being nice until I got a $7 charge for that. For what? Then the waitress noted they usually give you a complimentary piece of cake for your bday - well we brought our own so she didn't, which is fine, but at least wave the already ridiculous cake cutting fee! So we paid $7 for no free piece of cake and our whole cake was not cut. It's just not a way to treat people. Maybe it will be another 5 years until I return...

Yelp
The food here is delicious and I love the ambiance inside!!! Also the focaccia bread is a must try!!

Yelp
My dad and I visited here for the first time and absolutely enjoyed it! I'm mostly plant based so we decided to cater to that diet and shared it all We ordered: The Big V - this was our favorite for sure. Pizza crust was perfect, be sure to ask.for a side of their chili oil to dip it in. Perfectly sauced, and top with well dressed olive oil arugula. Pepperoni-oni - we got this with plant based cheese and Pepperoni, and it was delicious as well Our waitress suggested dessert, and I thought I was too full, but I'm so happy she suggested ot. We shared 2 scoops, roasted strawberry and chocolate, and both were damn good. Ice creams are from the Taharka Brothers, so if you know that brand, you already know the quality! The chocolate ice cream taste like it has a brownie in it, and yes, both are vegan options. We had a wonderful waitress, Abby. She was attentive, knowledgeable about the restaurant and the menu, thanks for excellent service Abby!!!

Yelp
Fresh ingredients and very romantic atmosphere. Sometimes the pizza is too charred/burned for my taste but there are so many appetizers to choose from as well (love the meatballs!) and the cocktails are very pretty. Overall it can be a sneaky expensive night out so it's not a regular spot for us but I do like it.

Yelp
Solid pizza with a good vibe! Overall, really enjoyed the pizza I got -- had mushrooms and arugula and was a little spicy! We went for happy hour so I got the $7 g&t which was solid! The outdoor patio area was very cute and I was able to bring my dog! Overall, a nice, classy pizza place if you're in the area. Parking was easy to find. Of note, I've heard the pasta portions are relatively small!

Kara T.

Yelp
I am a firm believer that hershs pizza has some of the best food in the city. The service is always fantastic and the vibe is casual but romantic. Highly recommend the pizza and home made pasta too!

Yelp
Oooohh, Hersh's... you wonderful place. I visited you years ago and you were good then, but myyyyyy oh my how you've aged so deliciously. On my first visit, I enjoyed family style servings of so many of the menu offerings and just remember everything being perfectly executed and the large party we were with raving about the great food and service here for months afterwards. Recently I was craving pizza and Hersh's La Serrenita with added mushrooms from that wood fire brick oven made me close my eyes and hum while I enjoyed every delectable morsel. That pizza was soooooo good that I don't care if it was intended to share or not, lolol... it was MYYYY personal pan for that visit, with leftovers I thoroughly enjoyed having all to myself. My Caesar salad accompaniment was a perfect compliment with delicious anchovies and thank goodness I saved room for dessert. The butter cake with fire roasted strawberries was out of this world and made a perfect meal even more perfect. There was a seasonal eggnog tequila cocktail I was apprehensive to try and was sooooo glad I got it! It was FLAWLESS execution of a holiday favorite I never would've expected to be so good with tequila as the main spirit, but I loved it! Service from Abby was stellar and she was so attentive and friendly, too. She made us kiiiiinnndaaa want to stay and move in their kitchen to eat all the yummy things and drink the most yummy drinks and enjoy her kind and pleasant spirit all day, but alas... we couldn't be Hersh's squatters (insert deep sigh of sadness). Despite the street parking not being best ideal at peak times of day in that neighborhood, we will be returning soon and frequently for the outstanding food & drinks and better service Hersh's has been dishing out for years! Guys, I literally rolled my eyes back in my head and hummed while eating my pizza, it was SO good lololol.

Yelp
This place is right downtown the street from us and always hits the spot. Their meatballs are my favorite appetizer to get and they just added some truffle fries to their menu that were delicious! Their wine variety is really good and every pasta and pizza I've had here is yummy. My new favorite is their chicken parm that I got last night, really nice portion and the chicken was cooked perfectly
google avatar

Yelp
This is honestly my favorite pizza place in Baltimore. It is so good! I've been coming here and raving about it since I first visited in 2021 before moving here! I can't wait until it gets warm outside again because I love their outdoor seating and they're always so sweet to my dog Teddy and always bring him treats when he's there! The service is so great! Their happy hour is really great and wine is six dollars a glass. This is my favorite place to take anyone visiting Baltimore, dinner, date with my husband, or if I want to get dinner with my friends after work!

Yelp
I loved Hersh's! Just a wonderful peaceful sophisticated atmosphere and the staff welcomed us so warm heartedly. I got the pink gin and tonic which had the $7 happy hour deal and it was not bad. Not my favorite g and t ever, but solid. Pizza was amazing I got the broccoli rabe and sausage. I wanted the manny trillo but the basil pesto has nuts, too bad! The tiramisu was ok, but also not the best I've ever had.

Yelp
Very good good. Bar tenders are excellent. Clean and chill restaurant. Service was timely!

Yelp
I love Hersh's! This super underrated restaurant is the place you want to be if you want quality service and food! From the pasta, to the pizza to the porchetta everything is so good! I have only been twice but I highly recommend trying it today! The service is always so welcoming and gives of the right vibes!! I recommend going here if you are looking for something off the beaten path! Good good, good drinks and a nice vibe always equals a good time!

Yelp
Food was excellent, however entree portions were small for the money. The squid ink pasta was tasty, but not worth pri e.

Yelp
Went here for Valentine's Day, and the food was OK. They only had one reservation slot available at the time of booking - which is fine. But when we walked in, there were a number of open tables. Over $50 for 2 (small) plates of carbonara. Atmosphere was nice, and service was good.. but for the price, there are tons of better options in the area.
google avatar

Lillian F.

Yelp
Beautiful little restaurant space, quiet enough to enjoy a good conversation. We got the wood fired octopus, which was AMAZING! Then the carbonara which was ok and salami with hot honey pizza which I loved, my boyfriend thought it was just ok. We got dessert to go, the server was SUPER helpful in his information about each option. Tiramisu was good but the cannolis tasted like they forgot to add sugar. Very nice staff and a little on the pricey side for pizza but what you would expect for a nice Italian dinner.

Jared C.

Yelp
Food and service is always great. They have outdoor dining as well, which is great for warmer days. Their selection of wine was pretty large as well.
google avatar

Nithin K.

Yelp
This is the most authentic and best pizza I've had in Baltimore. I would definitely go back here and recommend it to anyone without any hesitation. The patio seating with the lights is very beautiful. Service was great and the pizza prices were very fair. Drinks and some of the other food items can be on the pricier end. Don't think they had any specials going, which might motivate me to go back more. That being said, the place was still busy. Food came out quickly and the experience was very enjoyable. Looked like they are dog friendly on the outside. Location is awesome!
google avatar

Maree J.

Yelp
Nice restaurant, very quiet end of Baltimore so not a very "social" scene during the week but the food was solid and moderately priced
google avatar

Juhye K.

Yelp
Hersh's is an underrated gem in Baltimore. Delicious, locally sourced food and the best wood fired pizzas in the city IMO. Their crust is just pillowy, not too thick and not too thin. I always love their seasonal apps, this time we got the wood fired octopus which was delicious (in the past we've absolutely loved their squash blossom fritters as well!). Overall just lovely service, lovely food.
google avatar

Sophia M.

Yelp
Incredible food all around!!! Everything tasted incredible. We started with the meatballs which were delicious, then the carbonara fries which were insane and so delicious and genuinely tasted exactly like carbonara with tons of guanciale chunks. We got two pastas and two pizzas and shared everything. All in all great food and cozy vibes especially during these cold winter months. Their patio looks awesome and I can't wait to try it over the summer. Follow me at @foodiefei

Yelp
If you have been to Naples, then you're in for a treat because their Margherita pizza tastes EXACTLY (possibly even better) than the famous Starlight pizza that you can only get in Naples, Italy. Plus, its probably a lot safer, more parking, and a better location than the other place in Naples. Eat here, impress the one you love and dress up and take them on a date here (whenever we can dine in again), because its a lovely atmosphere, friendly and fast service and has amazing drinks!!! I just hope take-out is just as good.

Mark W.

Yelp
maybe the most consistently excellent restaurant in Baltimore., worth the travel from the county!

Yelp
Hersh's is the best pizza I've had in the entire USA, maybe the world. Hands down. No competition. If you live in Washington, D.C. like I do, it's worth the drive just for the pizza. It's a neighborhood joint in an industrial part of Baltimore. They have plenty of space inside, including a bar, and outdoor patio seating. Since the weather was nice, we sat outside and it was perfect. They have an excellent drink list with hard cider included. I ordered a rare cider from the UK and it was the best I've ever had. Wow. So crisp and refreshing. The pizza I ordered was the sausage pizza and wow. It was perfectly made with the best dough you'll ever have. I wanted them to bring Nutella out so I could dip it in chocolate. It was so good. If you need good pizza, drive, fly or run to Hersh's!
google avatar

Rayne O.

Yelp
So, I'm sorry I have to do this, but the pizza is a flop. Like, literally, floppy. We got the Margherita and the Salsiccia. Both rather expensive for the wetness, lack of toppings, and lack of flavor. All-in-all, it was just, maybe, fine. I was actually starving before coming so it served a need. Perhaps the pasta is better. I really hate to write these reviews when I'm disappointed, but I'm trying to become Elite, and I wanna be honest to my readers/the public... I am not even a huge fan of Paulie Gee's, but I would stop there instead. In general, I don't enjoy when restaurants claim having "the best", when it's.... definitely not. Graphic design-wise, pretty cute logo. It works. Ouch, this hurts my soul. If I have one. I have to sign off.

Yelp
OMG so glad I stopped by here before my boyfriend moved out of Baltimore. We made a reservation and stopped by here on a Friday night. We scootered because it didn't look like there was a ton of parking available nearby (it's street parking). We ordered the hot chili green beans, the marghertia x pizza, and the squid ink pasta. Oh my YUM. The green beans were delicious! They were made with a chili oil--typically the stuff you get on the side at chinese restaurants, but to douse it all over green beans? I'm sold. The only drawback was that I didn't realize that this was fried (I know, it says crispy on the menu, I should've inferred. my b). so I would not recommend if you're trying to order this to be healthy. Now for the pizza and pasta, I was truly blown away. Their dough here is delicious, thin, and crispy. The margherita x was phenomenal with the freshest cherry tomatoes and the homemade pasta blew me away. I typically find squid ink pastas overrated, but after getting the recommendation from our server, I was not disappointed. It's light, the perfect texture, garlicky, crispy goodness. The service was also top notch here. She made sure our waters were refilled and came back to check on us frequently. Overall, I highly recommend and I would love to return.

Yelp
Came here for a birthday dinner. I had heard such great things about the restaurant and was excited to try their pizza. For appetizers we tried the Caesar salad (great), burrata (great), and crispy cauliflower (great). Our mains were the fried chicken Marsala (soggy and flavorless), the Margherita pizza (ok), and cacio e Pepe pizza (not good). For dessert we had the hersh bar (ok) and cannolis (ok). The service was great, they even brought us a new cacio e Pepe pizza because the first one was burnt. Overall the food was ok but definitely over hyped.

Yelp
Came out to Hersh's on a recent trip to Baltimore, and am happy I did as this is a spot I could definitely come back to sooner rather than later. They were overly busy on a weekday which was nice. Service was great, and food came quickly. I started with the carbonara which was amazing. Perfectly springy, al dente noodles in a super rich sauce that had added smoke and saltiness from the guanciale. I want to come back for more pastas. As a second, I had a spring ramp pizza. The pizza was chewy and a little charred, not quite Neapolitan to me but still very good. This particular one was sauceless, with ramps, spring onion, cheese and an egg. It tasted very fresh and delicious, and I had no problem eating the entire pie. They also had a half price wine bottle deal when I visited, which is awesome. Keep it up Hersh's.
google avatar

Vidisha S.

Yelp
Good Italian food! Relatively small menu. Meatballs were a little bland but still good. Loved the cacio de pepe. Pizza was great! Ask for the chili oil on the side for dipping the crust. I thought the portion sizes were small. Would still come back and maybe order more food!
google avatar

Taylor S.

Yelp
Loved this place and will definitely go again. Pizza was one of the best I had in a while and the pasta was yummy. It was a tad dry but had a good amount of crab. Drinks were fine.

Yelp
What a treat to finally have a chance to dine in person at this hidden neighborhood gem that had been on my list for quite some time. The epitome of the Baltimore neighborhood corner row home hideaway, Hersh's delivers elevated Italian cuisine with all the right home cooked energy. Walking in, the dimmed lights paired with tasteful but unique light fixtures generate an intimate, cozy atmosphere that is only amplified by the warm and welcoming staff. We had an opportunity to dine upstairs, leading to even more of a welcome to my home dining experience. Service was prompt and attentive, with menu questions and recommendations more than invited. We ordered the Burrata and Meatballs to start. While as the vegetarian at the table, I didn't try the meatballs, the aroma was rich and complex, and they got top marks from the rest of the table. The Burrata paired crusty but melt in your mouth ciabatta with bold basil pesto, juicy pops of acidity from slow roasted tomatoes, and burrata that was as creamy and delicate as they come. We ordered the Spring Cavatelli and Cacio e Pepe pizza for our mains. Talk about the perfect wood fired pizza crust! Just the right amount of chew to a pillowy soft dough with those classic slightly torched bubbles. The perfect vehicle for a delicious cheese blend with spicy, savory pops from the fresh cracked black pepper. A delicious ode to a classic pasta dish! The cavatelli was also a standout. The slight irregularity of the pasta was a true sign of hand rolled al dente morsels, layered in a parmigiano broth that brings together the herby notes of the spring onions and asparagus. The lemon garlic confit and crunchy hidden pistachios truly elevate this dish to exceptional. Thank you for a memorable anniversary dinner Hersh's team! We cannot wait to dine with you again.

Yelp
We had such a good dinner here! Sat outside to avoid more freezing AC, and it was quite pleasant , even without a view. We couldn't resist ordering the pickled anchovies with housemade potato chips to start. The server warned us they weren't for everyone, but we like anchovies, so...? She was right. They just tasted too strong, mostly vinegary. We then shared the Greens So Hearty, which was excellent. Romaine, watercress, hazelnuts, pecorino and great buttermilk vinaigrette. We ended up chopping the anchovies and adding them to the salad! Good use. Then the pasta! Oh, the pasta! Ravioli stuffed with ricotta, in a prosciutto broth! And Squid Ink Tagliatelli with Crab, very spicy and delicious! We ended our meal with Limoncello, which was very good, and we hadn't had since I stopped making my own a few years ago. Cin cin!

Yelp
I went to this restaurant because I had seen multiple foodies raving about their carbonara, so that's what I was most excited about! That turned out to be the most disappointing item, because it was covered in so much pepper, it actually threw off the flavor balance for me. The octopus appetizer was amazing though, flavor and texture and everything. The pork belly was also fantastic, super tender with delicious creamy polenta. Cocktails were good, I really liked the Riverside fizz because it was very light and refreshing. My boyfriend likes whiskey and he enjoyed the French quarter and the hersh's old fashioned. For dessert, I got excited to see that they had some unique house made ice cream flavors. So we ordered the basil ice cream and olive oil ice cream. Both delicious! My boyfriend didn't like the basil so much but we both loved the olive oil ice cream because it tasted like butter. Ha! Overall a good experience, just bummed about the carbonara being so covered in pepper. In their defense, I didn't ask for them to fix it.

Yelp
I must salute Hersh's for doing an impeccable job serving guests during the covid-19 pandemic. The restaurant was only allowing patio seating so I made a reservation via open table. Hersh's has been on my yelp bookmark list for ages, and since I was craving Italian (and they were accommodating dine-in guests) it seemed like the perfect opportunity. I tried the grilled octopus for my appetizer. I have never had octopus before but Hersh's reputation made me feel secure venturing out my comfort zone. The dish was wonderful and exceeded my expectations. I loved the fried beans with the dish. My only criticism is that it was a bit heavy on the vinegar, but overall I was very pleased. My entree was the tagliolini. The limited menu (due to covid) only featured three pasta dishes, and while all sounded appealing, I settled on this dish. Pasta is my favorite food - and I've had the best visiting Rome and Florence- and this dish exceeded my expectations. When it was presented to me I was preparing myself for disappointment because I'm partial to cream based pasta dishes (tomato being a second) and this had a more garlicky butter base. But it was so delicious with so much flavor. I have to credit Hersh's for how they have done hospitality during covid-19 to not only protect their guests but their employees. The server/hostess did a phenomenal job managing guests, and was extra careful to use gloves when picking up dishes.

Yelp
Delicious food, great service, and a nice atmosphere. This is a great spot tucked away at the southern tip of federal hill. We enjoyed the clam pizza and two pasta dishes (plus the arancini). Parking can definitely be an issue so watch out for that but otherwise a strong recommend.

Alex A.

Yelp
I am sorry to give a poor review, but all the positive reviews are misleading, in my opinion - it's just overpriced and not that great. I've had two experiences that have left me with a bad taste about this place, no pun intended. Once, I order a braised meet gnocchi to-go and given the $32 price was expected more than 8 prices of gnocchi and a thumb size price of meat as a serving size (see picture). But, Im a firm believer in second chances and so I went back and ordered pizza at later date. I showed up when the order was supposed to be ready and it was not, and I had to wait ~20 minutes for my order, only to get soggy and droopy pizza.

Yelp
Extremely good dinner last night at Hersh's on Light Street. Very good service. Outstanding food over the two dish sample. This seems to be a place where you can come for a quick and outstanding pizza or more of a full meal experience. We intend to try their whole wood-roasted bronzino on our next visit. Lamb and pork meatballs were tender and balanced. They came with ricotta and marinara sauce. We also split a white clam pizza which was one of the best pizze we have had in a long time. The crust was bready and had nice charring without venturing into the actually burnt realm of so much modern pizza making. While not particularly 'clammy' it was an outstanding pizza. A little richness balanced with lemon. The clams served to bring brine and brightness, much like anchovy does. We had them add arugula which was a good decision. The drinks were outstanding: an old fashioned made with honey and Calabrian chile, and a mezcal-based play on the last word. Both were outstanding in their balance, with their creativity not getting in the way of deliciousness. The dessert was ordinary: an overly dense flourless chocolate torte. Everyone who came to the table was very personable and concerned we were enjoying. At $70 for a light meal, not cheap but worth it in terms of overall quality and the warm, welcome. Yet another fabulous find within walking distance of our abode. Love living in Federal Hill.

Yelp
Unassuming place with extraordinary food and really great bartenders. Burrata appetizer was a home run, some special aged balsamic as the star of the show. Porchetta stuffed with arugula, garlic, and parmesan was an absolute knockout. Cherry chocolate pistachio ice cream and staff that knows the right amaro to pair with it. 10/10, will return.

Yelp
So good but expensive! The buratta app was very delicious and my pasta was great and highly recommended by the server. The price point was a bit high for my liking but I would recommend!

Yelp
Finally came to this neighborhood joint and because it was leap year had the joy that they were offering half price bottles of wine! So 3 of us splurged on the pricey baby amarone and enjoyed it tremendously! We got the meatballs and charred octopus as apps. Although charred octopus seems the new ubiquitous app out there, hersh's version was just a little extra delicious with sauce and little veggies. We then enjoyed their da fungi pizza (so so good), cavatappi (delicious) and surf and turf (somewhat disappointing because so small). But overall a great time made better by the wine deal!

Yelp
A hidden gem in Federal Hill! The food, the atmosphere, the service...I cannot say enough good things! I got a Caesar salad to start and when people say their dressing could be famous, it's with good reason! For my entrée I ordered the Gnocchi and it was melt in my mouth AMAZING. Finished it off with the cannoli dessert special. The service was impeccable and my glass was never empty! I will definitely be back!

Yelp
My book club met here last month and I had heard rave reviews from yelp and other foodie friends. I was a beautiful evening was we enjoyed our dinner and conversation on the patio. I was pleased with the service and I love a small curated menu. I will also preface this with the fact that I could literally live the rest of my life without eating pizza again (just in general not specific to Hersh's). I ordered the smoked lamb meatballs and wood fired octopus as starters; both were delicious. The meatballs were so moist, the texture (which is key, no over mincing or mixing here) was on point, and the sauce was classic and tasty. The octopus was tender and flavorful. All the accompaniments added something special to the seafood. Next I had the salsiccia. The fact that they don't cut the pie, regardless of authenticity, is mostly annoying. I do like the thinness of the crust and the "knife and fork it" way you have to eat it tho. All the ingredients were fresh but I was just not impressed. I enjoy other local pizzerias more. The rose' flight was on point tho so I'll definitely be back for apps and drinks.

Yelp
Man, they know what they're doing. I'd buy the pizza dough just to snack on. Everything is so delicious. The food, the cocktails. I don't even have words to describe it. Servers were super helpful and very patient while we made decisions.

Yelp
Went on a mid week night. Arrived at 5 pm with a reservation and were seated near the waitstaff station with a view of pizza boxes. -1 Point. Strike two. Went specifically for the swordfish entee and they were out of that dish. Normally no big deal but with such a limited menu as they have at Hersh's it is a big deal. Understand these are unprecedented times. Also felt the slightly pushy suggestions to upsell the meal were a little annoying. My brother really likes this restaurant but I was not too impressed with our first experience.

Yelp
Hersh's is a nice spot with great food. I visited while on a Birthday trip to Baltimore, though this was the night before. The atmosphere of the place is cozy but open. The Tomato Crostini was quite tasty, like an elevated tomato and Mayo sandwich. Kale & Pistachio Pizza was very good and with a great crust. Crab Squid Ink Pasta was interesting and wonderful. My Pimm's Cup cocktail was refreshing. The top star of the night would be the Pizza (Kale & Pistachio) which they are known for, with its' lovely crust and fresh, delicious toppings. All in all, a wonderful meal.

Yelp
I recently picked up my first meal at Hersh's. Someone who knows the owners recommended it, and I'm happy I tried it - looking forward to another meal from Hersh's! They have an interesting take on Italian food that's quite special. It was hard to choose as the menu items all looked good. There were both red sauce and white sauce pizzas; I was happy to see that as I prefer the white. I ordered a pizza with a variety of fresh mushrooms Da Funghi: Taleggio, fontina, mixed mushrooms, sherry-thyme vinaigrette. The crust was tender, the mushrooms fresh & there was a small green "salad" in the center on top (not sure what the greens were, but I liked them). I also ordered the donuts. I admit it...I ate them first. They are enormous, delicate & flavorful.
