Where to Eat, Stay, and Play in Urla—Turkey’s Emerging Food and Wine Destination

"Back in Urla’s town center, and inside a beautifully renovated former theater, Hiç Urla’s restaurant also includes a small shop where local olive oil in handmade bottles, as well as ceramics in earthen tones, make for perfect souvenirs."

The 22 Best Restaurants and Vineyards in İzmir, Turkey | Eater

"A Greek theater turned restaurant, Hiç prepares modern twists on regional recipes in a state of the art kitchen, all complemented with regional wines and cocktails. Following a “forest to fork” motto, the sustainable operation tries to raise awareness with its approach to sourcing ingredients, energy consumption, and waste. The Olive Forest salad is a perfect example of foraged and harvested produce from Urla, while the dry-aged beets show off the zero-waste philosophy. Don’t miss the house kokoreç (lamb intestines) with fermented mushrooms or the ekmek dolması, Urla’s traditional stuffed bread. The restaurant also organizes harvesting tours of its 60,000 olive trees, where guests will also find plenty of wild edible plants, and conducts cooking classes all year around." - Tuba Şatana

Hiç Lokanta

"This trendy establishment housed in a former Greek theatre in the picturesque old town of Urla is all about sustainability. Respect for the environment is evident in every detail, from the wild-foraged ingredients used to the water conservation and waste management measures in place. The restaurant's freshly pressed olive oil is a highlight of its modern cuisine, which is full of personality. Acidity and spiciness are used to bring life to the dishes, as seen in a salad of wild herbs, berries, and a vinaigrette made from fermented beans and pollen. This is where nature's complexity comes alive!" - Michelin Inspector

Nice concept. It is a good place to chill or eat with family or friends on high taste level. The bread menu had good taste. I find the menu photo gives a wrong impression. It is bigger on the photo as it came. As a main menu it is a little bit less and I recommend supplements.

We had such a lovely waiter - I think he made our time at the restaurant even more special. The food was delicious. The presentations creative. I really appreciated how everything is locally sourced and from their own farm, including the olive oil. Also if you are a fan of ceramics, all of their plates are by their own brand and there is a shop inside the restaurant where you can choose your own and take a little part of HIC with you home. They also had a pretty exhaustive wine selection - local as well as wider Turkey. And my favorite part was when I asked for gluten free bread, they offered me some and it was also very tasty, which is unusual and a rare find. There are two menus available - tasting and a la carte. Depending on how much you can eat go for either one. We all went for a la carte which allows you to pick three dishes - starter, main and dessert (but you are of course welcome to order anything else you would like to try). Just bear in mind that even though its just three dishes, you do get pretty full by the end of your meal ;)

We visited this restaurant at the end of December 2023. We ordered Smoked Sea Bass Paste, Chestnut Filled Pasta, Goat Tajine and Chery Filled Chocolate PuffCake. We drank red wine from the Urla region and tea. The quality and taste of the food: for a weak 4, of the 4 dishes ordered, I liked sea bass and goat in tagine, both dishes taste balanced and I would like to order them on the next visit, the filling in the chestnut paste was so ground into puree that the taste became homogeneous and boring, and the pasta itself was undercooked and it is not al dente, namely raw pasta, chocolate prevailed in the dessert with cherries and chocolate and the cherry was lost against its background, there was not enough sourness. Atmosphere: 5 out of 5, I liked the design of the room, high ceilings, loft style, wine shelf. Service: for 4, firstly, when ordering wine by glasses, it is necessary that the wine be poured into the glass in front of you so that you can see what is being poured for you, secondly, I would like the guests not to be put all in one corner of the restaurant, since then the waiters passing behind you with trays over your head are not the best an experience for guests. Overall impression: at 4, there is definitely room to grow, both in terms of food and quality of service.

Fantastic food, amazing wines, very nice atmospheric interior design. The street Hiç Lokanta is on is also an amazing touristic spot with very nice cafes, bakeries, artistic and local shops. Definitely worth a visit. Prices are on the higher side but considering the service you get (and compared to other restaurants, esp those in İstanbul) the pricing is appropriate.

Perfect spot for a nice bottle/cocktails and appetizers. We chose to sit outside for people watching but there were plenty of seats indoors and in the garden area despite being a Saturday night (9pm). Service was a mix bag, some were obviously inexperienced and not able to explain the menu nor answer questions asked. Ordered a bottle which took them 10 minutes to come back to indicate unavailability. Ordered another, this time it took them another 25 minutes and literally someone going up the ladder to search it in their cave, and return empty handed. Better/online stock management would have made the whole experience smoother. We ended up waiting-sitting-chasing the servers -whom were not busy at all btw-to get the water we ordered but not served after 30 minutes. The cheese platter was very pleasant, not a fan of smelly gooey goat cheese but they provided 4-5 different options on the platter so we could skip it. The beef tongue skewer was perfect, thin enough to forget that you are actually eating a tongue but still with some texture. The place is very breezy with high ceilings and pleasant lighting. Not sure about the triangles everywhere but that's definitely their concept :) Toilets and toilet locks are interestingly designed and definitely worth paying a visit.

Hiç means “nothing” in Turkish, that is a perfectly fitting expression to define the restaurant itself, there is nothing special. They are trying to position themselves as a authentic, organic and fine-dining. The food might be organic however the taste was mediocre and the prices are well on the upper level. The atmosphere was nice and the waiters was professional, however would not repeat or recommend.

The food was truly excellent, but the experience was let down by poor service and music. At this level, simple etiquette — like handing menus to the ladies first — should be second nature. The TikTok playlist killed the mood; such a mismatch for a restaurant named for its Michelin quality.

We’ve got the perfect experience here, both the food and the wine was fantastic and more importantly, all the employees we met had a big smile on their faces, they were all professionals and took very good care of us. 🤩 Plus, they’re not ripping people off by being a Michelin restaurant 😉 a big Thank You for everything!
