Highland Bakery - Review - Old Fourth Ward - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"Highland Bakery has been a reliable favorite for breakfast and sandwiches since in 2004 when new ownership turned the historic 1930s bakery into a bonafide eatery. Since then, you can pretty much bank on a wait for weekend brunch at the original location in Old Fourth Ward. Because of that, we prefer to slide in on the weekdays for their signature cinnamon rolls and sweet potato pancakes. But since the bread is made in-house, it’s always a good call to get a sandwich. Get the grilled pimento cheese, which is paired with sharp Vermont cheddar for that extra punch, and we always like to add crispy bacon. With a seat near the window, you can watch the runners just off the Freedom Park Trail or influencers trekking up to Jackson Street Bridge for photo ops." - Nina Reeder

Here’s Where to Indulge in Pancakes and Waffles Around Atlanta

"The wait at the original location in Old Fourth Ward is long, but worth it for the myriad of pancake options. For something sweet, order the sweet potato pancakes served with a brown sugar butter sauce or the ricotta pancakes served with a blueberry compote. For savory pancakes, try the cilantro corn pancakes stacked with black beans, eggs, cheese, and salsa." - Lia Picard, Eater Staff

We flew into Atlanta and while leaving Avis we asked the checkout lady, where we should get breakfast. She said that Highland was the way to go, she loved their Sweet Potato Pancakes. About a 15 min drive later, we roll up to The Highland. Sitting right on the corner or a street. Not being from the area, parking may be an issue, we got lucky and found a spot about a block away. Decent crowd there.. you go inside, make your order at the desk, can sit in the back or outside and they bring your food out. They had a couple of displays with lots of cup cakes, breads and other tempting items. We ordered the Sweet Potato pancakes, Peanut Butter French Toast, Ricotta Pancakes with Blueberries, BLT and my son got kind of Lumberjack breakfast.. eggs, toast, sausage. We found a nice sunny table and the food was out Very quickly. They have a fine oiled machine going here, plenty of runners. Everything was really good, nothing blew my socks off.. well I really liked their home fries and The Ricotta pancakes were super, super moist. Good sized menu so I'm sure you can find a favorite. Across the street was a little park that my kids went over and ran around some. If your in the area you should give it a try!

Really enjoyed the food here. And the service was good and fast. My only complaint was the cinnamon bun we ordered was very hard and not good at all. I was expecting more, this being an actual bakery. But it def wasn't bad enough to lose a star, so they still get 5 from me. The fried chicken Benedict was great and the poached eggs were perfect! The chicken fried steak was great as well! I will definitely be back to give this cinnamon buns another go!

We had a party of 7 for brunch at 12:30 pm on Friday, 12/9/22. You order at the counter and they bring your food out. My biggest complaint is that they up-charge for EVERYTHING. My sister got a medium iced Chai Latte, which was delicious, but the ice cost an extra 59¢. Give me a break. I got the Breakfast Combo ($16), which came your choice of: - 1/2 french toast, ricotta or peach pancakes, or sweet potato pancakes. I got the ricotta pancakes and they were super good! Very moist. I drenched it in the blueberry sauce. My dad got the breakfast combo with french toast, which I also tried, and it was good too, especially when drenched in syrup and icing. - 1/2 meat. I got turkey bacon, which was an option on their sign, but they up-charged me 59¢ again! I’m just confused as to what meat I would’ve had to pick that they wouldn’t have up-charged me for. - Scrambled eggs. The eggs lacked flavor, even though I paid an extra $1.39 to add cheddar cheese. Overall, the food is pretty good. I think there are better brunch options in Atlanta though.

Delicious peanut butter French toast. Average rustic Italian egg. The bread under the egg was overwhelmed with the vegetables that effect it taste. American is below average. Nice service. You have to order on the disk then take you number to your table & food will serve to you. There is parking 2 blocks behind the restaurant.

Such a wonderful brunch/lunch spot. The Classic Eggs Benedict is delicious. I think it is wonderful you can get half grits, half potatoes on the side. Hard not to grab a bag full of pastries on the way out.

It was okay. Nothing special and due to that it was overpriced. The grits were good. Nothing else was any better than what we could have had for free at our hotel. We went out for breakfast because we wanted something nicer this morning. We asked for water and they never brought us any.

Excellent! The food was hot and fresh as was the coffee. The jalapeno focaccia in the grits was so good. The place is clean and my service was prompt. I would definitely come back, especially to try other options.

I got the rustic italian and a had order of french toast. Something wasn't quite right for me with the rustic Italian... I feel like it was missing a pinch of seasoning or something. But the french toast?! MY GOD. It is INCREDIBLE!!! The syrup is so decadent and absolutely DELICIOUS. I wish it came with more cream on top as well, but man. I was thoroughly satisfied with it. And service was SUPER speedy, out waitress was fantastic (thanks, Ashley!)
