The Best Vegan and Vegetarian Restaurants in Minneapolis and St. Paul | Eater Twin Cities

"Himalayan Restaurant on Lake Street delves into Indian, Nepalese, and Tibetan cuisine and has extensive vegetarian offerings. Start with the kothe — steamed momos, which are pan-fried and served with a savory tomato-cilantro chutney. You can’t go wrong with the chana masala or creamy Kathmandu curry, either, best paired with aloo paratha or extra-buttery naan. Save room for desserts like kheer and mango pudding." - Stacy Brooks

The Best Indian Restaurants Around Minneapolis and St. Paul | Eater Twin Cities

"Himalayan Restaurant on Lake Street delves into India, Nepalese, and Tibetan cuisine, and does it all exceptionally well. The creamy chicken tikka masala is excellent here, as are the kothe — steamed momos that are pan-fried and served with a savory tomato-cilantro chutney. On the side, savor the dense, flakey layers of a fresh-made aloo paratha, or extra buttery naan, and save room for desserts like kheer and mango pudding." - James Norton

If you’re looking for real, authentic Nepali food in Minneapolis, Himalayan Restaurant is the place to go. The momos here are seriously the best in town—we had the Chicken Kothe and Jhol Momos, and both were packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. Total comfort food. The Aloo Achaar was another hit—spicy, tangy, and super satisfying. Definitely worth adding to your order. We also tried the jackfruit entrée for the first time. It was pretty good and had a nice texture, though the flavor could’ve been a little stronger. Still cool to see something different on the menu. Overall, this spot is a solid choice if you’re craving Nepali food. Great flavors, good portions, and a cozy vibe. We’ll definitely be back!

Google
This restaurant was absolutely spectacular and a place I would want to return to the next time I'm in minneapolis. The food was utterly delicious the service was fantastic in the atmosphere was Top Notch. I have the pleasure of eating with a co-worker and we both had different curries and shared an appetizer that was spectacular. It is a must try!

Google
In a galaxy not so far away—East Lake Street, Minneapolis—I stumbled into Himalayan Restaurant, drawn by the whispers of momo and the pull of paneer. And let me tell you, strong with the flavor, this place is. Started my journey with the Veggie Half Momo, and oh, what a revelation--Inside this dumpling, the Force is. Savory secrets wrapped in dough—it’s not just a snack, it’s a galactic council meeting in your mouth. Each bite burst with spice and harmony, like a well-executed lightsaber duel—balanced, precise, and deeply satisfying. Then came the Palak Paneer—creamy, comforting, and dressed in the colors of the Republic.--Creamy it is. Spinach-powered it may be. But underestimate the flavor, you must not. Of course, what’s a Jedi feast without Garlic Naan? If flatbread had a Jedi rank, this would be a Master. Charred just right, and sassier than Yoda on leg day. A perfect companion to scoop every last bit of that paneer goodness. (And yes, I did. Waste not, want not.) And the steamed rice? Simple, noble, and effective. Now, as with all great adventures, a plot twist appeared at the end—a 3% credit card surcharge. Not the end of the world, but it hits like finding out the droid you bought doesn’t come with a charger. Annoying, it is. Still, for $32 and change, this was a culinary campaign worth every credit (even with the surcharge ambush). Peaceful dining space, quick service, and food crafted with care and Force alike.

Google
Himalayan is always a solid choice for a meal. They have great vegetarian options, which is very appreciated. Today, I ordered samosas and tofu-aaloo for lunch. I got it delivered, and it came super quickly and was steaming hot. The portions were large and perfectly spiced. No complaints here. Definitely a neighborhood fave…

Google
Awesome Nepalese momos and curry. Been turned onto this food by two Nepalese friends in Australia. This is an awesome place to eat while in Minnesota. Ten stars 🌟 🤩 ✨️ 😍 💖 💛 🌟 🤩

Google
I had an incredible dining experience at this Nepalese restaurant. The food was bursting with authentic flavors—especially the momo (dumplings), which were perfectly steamed and filled with deliciously seasoned meat. The dal bhat was hearty and comforting, and the spices in the curry were balanced beautifully. Dont miss the pan at last.

this is a local neighborhood gem, always so good! can't go wrong with ordering too much so you have leftovers!

Yelp
we were visiting Minneapolis and looking for a light lunch as well as trying something we would not have in our home town. When looking online, a lot of people recommended Himalayan and momos sounded good so we decided to check it out. we got half order of the steamed veggie dumplings and half order of the fried veggie dumpling. we also got naan and paratha. both dumplings were good and came with a tomato chutney; the fried dumplings had a bit more flavor but both were good and filling. the naan was also good and fresh but the paratha wasn't a typical paratha but more like a tandoori roti

Yelp
Stopped by here on a snowy Sunday. Just happen to be driving by and saw the sign and thought, hmm momos sound good today. Its a deceivably big place as they have a pretty big back room. It's clean and has interesting decor. They have some specials on the boards at the entrance and a full menu. We were seated right away. They got us the menus and water and the server was very helpful when asking questions regarding the menu items. We were decidedly in the mood for non-Indian fare so concentrated on the Nepali cuisine. We ordered steamed momos and chili momos along with kothe for appetizers. There was a choice of meat or veggie and we went with chicken for the momos and lamb for the kothe. For the entrees, we ordered the thukpa with chicken and lamb kebabs. The food took a few minutes but it was all fresh and hot. The momos were good but the chili momos were really good. The kothe was very good too and a hit with the kids. So much so that we ordered another order. The sauce on the chili momos was very flavorful with a hint sweet and spicy and we used that with everything, especially the lamb kebabs. Which is good because the kebabs themselves didn't have much flavor. They were grilled well and the meat was tender but there just wasn't enough flavor in the kebabs themselves. The momo sauce and green chutney helped but overall was a little disappointing. The thukpa was tasty. Didn't quite know what to expect and what we got was a noodle dish which was a cross between a pho and ramen with big chunky vegetables. The broth was very flavorful and the chicken tasty. The vegetables were soft but not mushy. The service was acceptable. Think they only has two servers for everyone and we did have to ask for napkins and water a couple times and get their attention. But they were courteous and helpful. Overall, it was a nice lunch and we would go back there for the appetizers and try out some of the other entrees. Especially since the kids enjoyed the experience.

Yelp
Himalayan restaurant offers flavors of Nepal, Tibet & India! I like spice, the hotter the better and this is one of a few Indian restaurants where you can control your heat which I love! Such a wide assortment of curry, vegetarian options, mouth watering garlic naan and my favorite, their Himalayan platter that has momos, samosas, and pyaazi (onion crisps)! The service was amazing and the owner was so nice! I also love their huge patio and easy parking. So much more of the menu I want to try but if you are looking for Indian food, I highly recommend!

Yelp
Visited 5/4/24. All I can say is how soon is too soon to go back?! This place was a delight. They have a lot first off with lots of street parking available as well, which always impresses me. We had a bigger group of 6 on a Sunday evening but they accommodated us with ease. Service was great with awesome recommendations. We started off with full orders of the vegetarian momos and kothe. My sister was super impressed as a vegetarian with all of there options. To eat, three of us got the chicken tikka masala, one got the palak paneer, one got the Kathmandu curry, and the other got the green curry with chicken added in. We also got sides of garlic naan. Not one dish was bad and everyone said they would recommend theirs in the future. They did awesome at helping us with to go boxes, and my chicken tikka was still really great even heated up the next day. This place is a gem

Yelp
Great food, staff, and artwork! The owner makes you feel as though you are an honored guest in his home. A gem in the city!

Anoop S.

Yelp
Ordered the poori or bhatura (forget which) and what was supposed to be fluffy and airy was thick and flat. Garlic naan also just okay. Variety of other dishes and all were fine but not as good as I was expecting based on reviews.

Yelp
My sister used to work here and they treat her like family still. Great owners. AMAZING FOOD! I have dreams about this food. Try the mango lassi and palak paneer and momos. Great for take out.

Yelp
Himalayan is one of my (if not THE) favorite restaurants in the Cities; so much so that my husband and I had them cater our wedding. I've been coming to Himalayan since they were at their tiny old location and the food has always been a 10/10. The staff are kind and helpful and I love that the owner is always bopping around the restaurant. Our experience with their catering service was top tier, too. The space itself is cozy and spacious, with plenty of tables. There can be a wait on busy nights, but it seems like a lot of the traffic up front is for pickup orders. They have a large parking lot that does tend to fill up, but there's always street parking available nearby. The main bathrooms are down a flight of stairs with no elevator, but the staff kindly pointed my handicapped father in the direction of a main-level bathroom to avoid those stairs, so it's nice to have that option. I'm a creature of habit when it comes to Himalayan, so I will always order the Palak Paneer (mild-medium to medium spicy) and Garlic Naan. The curry is creamy, thick, and delicious, with large chunks of paneer and smaller pieces of tomato blended in. Each dish is served with a healthy boat full of rice as well! The naan is crispy on the edges and soft in the middle, smothered in (I assume) butter or oil, topped with delicious chunks of garlic. My husband always orders the Chicken Tikka Masala, which is absolutely a classic. It's very similar to the Palak Paneer in its creamy deliciousness, but he tends to order his spicier. If you're going with a group, I would absolutely recommend getting the Himalayan Platter (1 Samosa, 2 Vegetable Momo, 2 Meat Kothe and 4 Pyaazi)--it's the perfect variety of appetizers to try and includes enough to share. Plus, the sauces that it comes with are delicious (we usually save them for our main meal). Honestly, if I could give this place a 100, I would. I bring all of my out of town visitors here, it just never misses. Absolutely give it a go!

Yelp
This place popped up for nearby when I was searching for Indian restaurant so decided to give it a shot. Read a few good reviews and thought hey why not. The location of this restaurant is a little deserted from the other restaurants on lake street. They have a good size parking lot but plenty of free street parking as well. Currently offer both patio and inside seating but most people sits outside since it's nicer now and fresh air We decided to get the combo meal to try a little if everything and was decent price. Got the chicken and veggie dish combo. Essentially make sure you have your dishes chosen. We were noobs. Pretty much can choose any veggie curry dish and any chicken dish. Choose from the soup list, the side list and dessert list. We thought the soup, sides, and desserts would be chosen already not that we had an option. We weren't really told how the ordering worked for the combo. So the person taking our order seems a little impatient? Anyways. I think the dishes are made a little smaller maybe compared to if you were ordering 1 entree. But you get a lot. Momo- decided to try this since saw many good reviews. We couldn't decide on flavor so got all 4 (lamb, chicken, veggie, meat aka pork). They were interesting (not a fan of the lamb though). Mango lassi- it was not bad. Typical lassi I would say. Soup- taste sort of like lenti? Mango pudding - interesting take to mango pudding. A unique taste I never had before Tofu with potato- didn't realized when we did the combo it was small platter. So it was small lol. There was maybe 5-6 pieces of tofu and rest as you can see were potatoes aka carbs. Wish it had more tofu than potatoes. I thought it was an ok dish. Chicken Marsala- definitely recommend: tasted awesome and we really enjoyed it with rice and naan. This was a decent size platter compared to the veggies which is better because it's meat lol. Overall. Would come back and try other things on the menu. We know what to do and how to prepare to order. :)

Yelp
The food here is delicious. Service does take awhile- we did wait awhile for our orders to be taken and the food to be served, as well as to ask for the check- so don't be in a rush when you dine here. We were seated outside with many plants in the quiet space. We ordered the Kathmandu Momo, the lamb tikka masala, and the chicken curry. The spices were phenomenal. The Momo was a little dry on the outside, but still flavorful. We enjoyed both entrees, appreciated the portions, and will definitely want to return when we're craving some flavorful food!

Yelp
The food was very delicious. The momo were very good, i prefer the fried momo, it is crunchy and delicious. The regular momo (steam) was good and juicy, however i like crunchy. The chicken saag was pretty good, i ask for hot and it wasnt that hot. A good kick, but very tasty. It had somewhat a smoking taste and it was thick. You can definitely get your hands dirty. The chicken tikka masala was delightful as well. It was a good thick and well balance of flavor. As for the biryani , it was oka, i dont like it by itself or with the yogurt like sauce. It doesnt taste well together in my opinion. However, other people might like it . It does have a medicine like taste. Like a bitterness to the flavor, however i mix it with the chicken tikka masala and it made it taste a lot better. Not bitter or a weird medicine taste. Adding the chicken saag to it will definitely change the flavoring of the biryani. The garlic naan was good, it was crunchy however, it is very plain, you cant taste the garlic at all. I have had better where you can actually taste the garlic. Overall, i gave it a four because of services. We waiting 45 mins before our order were taken. It just took so long for them to get to us, i understand there was a good amount of people, however everyone had to wait awhile like we did. The food took forever to come out as well. My friend and i were there for almost three hours. Nothing wrong with that, however we were just starving at one hr and a half. The atmosphere was great, we ask to be seated outside and it was pretty lively!

Yelp
Some of the dishes were a bit bland for our taste. Some dishes were good with more flavors. The food took a bit long to come out. Our server was very kind and sweet. The atmosphere would be good a date night
google avatar

Theresa H.

Yelp
Def recommend. I eat here min 1 per month. Usually take out, but have dined in on a handful of occasions. The atmosphere inside is nice, calm and clean. Service was good. They are friendly and helpful with navigating the menu and heat levels. The food is amazing. I am always getting a curry variety, and the naan is always well cooked. The food is cooked and still hot when I get home. Good size portions for the price. I've tried many dishes and never disappointed.
google avatar

Kabao Y.

Yelp
Very friendly to vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free eaters. I had their Kathmandu Momos and Chana Masala. Delicious and fresh. I've never had Chana Masala with spring onions before so they were a welcomed surprise. Ambience is casual and cozy. Parking isn't too hard to find with the parking lot and street parking. Service was friendly and they catered to our needs. It was relatively busy but didn't take too long for service to get to us and bring our food out.
google avatar

Alison K.

Yelp
We had the lamb two ways.. as a curry and with spinach. Both were fabulous and even better when I mixed it all up together. We also had the Naan and another bread stuffed with potatoes but I can't recall the name of it. The potato stuffed Naan-like bread was awesome. Very authentic and delicious. Don't hesitate and come fill up to an uncomfortable level.

Yelp
Visited Minneapolis for a few days and saw this place while driving. Our local friend recommended it highly so we got takeout for lunch. It's in an area near some cool antique shops and bookstores. We ordered the momo (steamed) and the creamy Kathmandu curry. The momo are basically bao filled with Nepalese and Indian ingredients. It comes with a tomato cilantro sauce that is absolutely amazing. The creamy Kathmandu curry is a vegetable curry, kind of similar to a korma or tikka masala. Incredibly flavorful and filling. You get a good amount of food for the price (around $15/entree). The restaurant has a nice interior and outside seating area. My final review: The food here is so good, I wouldn't know how to act if I lived in Minneapolis.
google avatar

Yelp
What a lovely spot! My family and I were here this past weekend for lunch and enjoyed the various dishes here! We ordered garlic naan, paratha and chicken tikka masala (no spice) for our kids. They loved it! For my lunch - I ordered tandoor chicken. A bit dry but overall the flavoring was delicious. There were plenty of vegan and vegetarian options as well. We did a full order of vegetarian momos, soups and curries. Service was great and the food was amazing. The wait staff were attentive and even gave us complimentary dessert! I truly recommend this place to family and friends! Thank you for a unique and flavorful experience!
google avatar

Ellie B.

Yelp
I worked here for years when I lived in Minneapolis and now I come back for food every chance I get when I'm home. All the food is incredible, especially the momos (you can ask for chili momo if you like spice), the creamy curries, and all homemade drinks are incredible. So many vegetarian/vegan options and the owners always make sure everyone enjoys their food and their experience. Beautiful art, so many plants on the patio, and a clean and comfortable space. It does get pretty busy on weekends but overall great service. I would give more stars if I could.
google avatar

Aaron S.

Yelp
I think I order take out from here monthly at the minimum. And whenever my family visits from out of town they request take out from here. I haven't found anything I don't like all the curries are delicious. Our favorite might be the chicken tikka masala.
google avatar

Peter P.

Yelp
Not the first trip to this restaurant but my first rating it. The food is tremendously flavorful. Although the colors are rather plain (most of our orders look yellowish) but it is the taste that count. The curry, the coconut, pancake paneer taste exploded in your mouth. Complement it with naan (we have garlic ones)....simply delicious.
google avatar

Anna N.

Yelp
Wow. I can't get over how good this food was. My local Minneapolis friend who also works at the Himalayan took us tourists here for an appetizer platter and some delicious drinks. We ended up eating lots more than just the platter - Naan, spiced potato salad, chicken tika, and lalmohan (milk balls) for dessert. We came at a slow time and the help staff was so friendly and helpful. The chiya (chai) was delicious - not sweet at all as expected but a little sweetener made it even better. The mango yogurt drink is highly reccomended if you're a sweet tooth. The decorations and vibe of the place are very authentic and comforting. The price was very fair as well. Overall, 10/10.

Farxaan A.

Yelp
I love this place the food is amazing the smell is so good omg the ambiance over all is amazing

Yelp
Live that this spot is in the middle of South Minneapolis. It has both indoor and outdoor seating which is great during the warmer months. I will have to knock down a star due to the service. It took a while to even get water and our order taken. Nevertheless, the food was amazing! Steamed and Fried Momos - Came out hot and delicious, served with I believe a chutney? Both were juicy and my favorite was of course the Fried Momo. You can choose the type of protein you'd like, vegetarian options available! Chicken Tikka Masala - You can never go wrong with this dish. A classic and hearty meal. I thoroughly enjoyed this dish as it helped the Chicken Biriyani taste so much better. Chicken Biriyani - This dish was surprisingly a little butter for me. Thankfully, it was served with a yogurt sauce and I mixed in the Chicken Tikka Marsala that mellowed out the bitterness. Chicken Saag - This definitely had a very strong taste that I was not familiar with and thankfully my friend enjoyed it more than I did. It has a smokey flavor and I'm sure and abundance of spices.

Yelp
Great food. Medium was spicy enough for me but it was all so flavorful. They do have authentic Nepali food. The samosa was perfectly crispy and I love the crispy momo as well.

Yelp
One word for Himalayan Restaurant: authentic! This place *will* surpass your expectations! It's a charming, unpretentious, neighborhood spot. It reminded me of the food-palace like buffet experiences I had at my favorite restaurants as a kid...the ones where you get to grab a mint on your way out. The man who was greeting folks at the door as well as later taking orders was this chipper gentleman who had such an informative, funny, and hospitable way about how he talked to the customers...like they were close friends or family. Once we sat down and opened our menus, I was impressed by the plethora of vegetarian and vegan options on their menu. I went for the most unique-sounding (to me) option on the vegan menu- the one that had jackfruit. It was seasoned well, the texture was melt-in-your-mouth-level-tender, and the portion was generous. I was pleasantly surprised! My friend ordered the samosas and the dumplings and enjoyed both too! Coming to the restaurant and seeing many staples that I ate growing up in a Kenyan household (much of our cuisine copied Indian cuisine) made me nostalgic and the joy of the experience was boosted by the background noise of locals chatting amongst themselves/ enjoying their food. The atmosphere was just soothing/ lively enough to hear background chatter as you ate but not overwhelmingly loud. From the food to the service to the atmosphere, eating at Himalayan Restaurant was an outstanding experience!
google avatar

Aminah K.

Yelp
Tad bit disappointed with this place despite the high reviews. It seems like the service and atmosphere is catered to a certain demographic. Didn't feel welcomed here and one of the servers (owner?) who seemed so friendly and all smiles in the beginning, was pretty pushy at the end. Another server didn't seemed interested in being there (in which I totally understand), and yet another one was hot and cold --she was pretty standoffish and quick to say that they don't have plain lassis, and then later came around to say that they can whip it up probably because the table next to us also request it. It was not great and watery.
google avatar

Brigitt M.

Yelp
Delicious, spicy food, good service, spotless bathrooms and friendly owner on site. Very popular with the locals.
google avatar

Adriana G.

Yelp
This was my first time trying Nepalese/Himalayan food and I was impressed. I like the calm ambience this restaurant has as well as the decor. I ordered thukpa noodle soup, broth was a bit thick for my liking... the garlic naan was delicious and the momos were my favorite. I would recommend trying the mango lassi, it's really good and refreshing! Overall the prices were great, food had lots of flavor and service by the owner is a major plus.
google avatar

Claire M.

Yelp
Probably one of my favorite places to eat in the twin cities. The owner is very kind and he always recognizes my boyfriend and I. Favorite dishes to grab - Chicken Tikka and the lamb curry w/ Garlic naan.
google avatar

Maggie L.

Yelp
Great place to try a variety of Nepalese dishes. The place has its own parking lot nearby. The owner was very nice and threw in a couple freebie dishes for us so it was especially fun for us. The curry dishes were actually smaller than I expected but they were surprisingly filling and very tasty. You have to go and experience this place at least once if you're in Minneapolis! I wish I could've been here to try their lunch buffet however it seems that has been put on hold since covid started a couple years ago

Jonathan T.

Yelp
I actually have been going to the Himilayan since way back in 2009 or so, when they were on Franklin Avenue in Seward, in a smaller location. I got to know one of the owners, Pravin, after becoming a regular. It's always been my favorite "go to" restaurant in town, whenever I have friends visiting or even work lunches. I cannot recommend it enough for anyone interested or looking for Nepalese cuisine, or just visiting Minneapolis.
google avatar

Gregory M.

Yelp
I love spicy food, which is not easy to find in Minnesota. This place is an exception! The chicken curry I got may have been the hottest dish I've ever had here. And that's a huge compliment!
google avatar

Jill C.

Yelp
Plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. The food is so delicious, it's hard to choose. Very friendly staff, clean restaurant, and calming ambiance. One trip here or two isn't enough!
google avatar

Neil S.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our dinner here. The portions are sizeable and flavorful, and it's easy to overorder! Being spice and heat starved living in your beloved Minnesota I was especially thrilled with the spice level of my food (my partner, not being that into spice, was as well for their milder fare). We had the sample platter of appetizers, which were all delicious but definitely do not sleep on the dumplings. We ordered the jackfruit aaloo (Kataar) and the mushroom aaloo (Chyau), which came with plain rice, and with them some naan and the paratha. Probably didn't need that much bread, or one less aaloo, for two people. We also had a mango lassi (tasty) and a Himalayan-spiced (very chai inspired) coffee, both being great.
google avatar

Roshen W.

Yelp
I'm not sure what happened in the kitchen when I ordered some food to go. None of the food had any salt. I experienced good service during my short visit.. But really, someone in the kitchen forgot to put salt!!
google avatar

Kiera S.

Yelp
The naan here was some of the worst naan I've ever had. The momos were good, but didn't have much flavor. The tandoori chicken was underwhelming.
google avatar

Yelp
Tasty food. Must try Salmon tikka dish! Good service. Clean and quick. Good place. Nice view in the patio. Good parking. More than enough parking space.

Yelp
Amazing authentic food prepared from scratch everything was excellent. Give it a try you won't be disappointed

Yelp
Excellent food; fun to eat outside . Just avoid sitting near the door. I'm vegetarian and found lots of options.

Yelp
*Take-out experience during COVID-19 Review* I have had Himalayan on my list especially to treat myself to my version of winter comfort food. Unfortunately, I didn't get the opportunity to experience their in person dining. However, I did take advantage of fulfilling my winter food craving for some wholesome flavorful Indian/Nepalese/Himalayan food. I have to admit the food was pricey for the portions but I understand that the hospitality industry has been hit very hard during COVID-19, especially restaurants so I can empathize with them. Plus, the food was good and they were accommodating so I will be lenient. Things I was happy about: 1. I accidentally ordered the Choyala Kebab instead of the Choyala Lamb and was able to call the restaurant to let them know about the mistake and they were able to do a easy swap, no issues. 2. I read that the delivery usually takes longer than expected but was happy to report that I got my food within 30 mins of my order. 3. I was going to order the Basmanti rice but decided not to to keep cost down and was ready to use my own rice at home but was pleasantly surprised to get the complimentary rice with each dish. Overall, my Lamb Choyala and Curry Goat, both ordered at the Hot level were good. I preferred the Curry Goat and if I order again will stay at the Hot level because it was enough spice without making my nostrils flare or make me tear up. Hopefully I get to dine in one day, but for now delivery will do.

Yelp
We had absolutely top tier service while there. As long as you're respectful, you will find this an excellent lunch/dinner option. They also make an uncommon effort to keep the place clean and nice, and the outside eating area was decorated with many flowers. The food itself was the best Indian food I've ever had. I high recommend the goat curry and the kheer!

Yelp
The Twin Cities is blessed with a large number of Nepalese, Tibetan and now also Bhutanese restaurants. Himalayan is a longtime staple and a solid spot for fresh and light food from this dynamic region of South Asia. We started with the vegetable momo ($11) and loved them. They're simple and delicious and vegan by default. The thukpa noodle soup ($11) was fine, but not great. Think of this dish as something akin to Vietnamese pho, but with different spices. Here the dish was hearty but the flavor profile fell flat (the best thukpa I've had was at the identically-named Himalayan Restaurant in Big Bear, CA). The chyau aaloo ($13) is a delectably savory dish of mushrooms and diced potatoes and vegan by default; the kataar aaloo ($12) consists of jackfruit and potatoes and tasted bland. The bandaa aaloo ($12) is a mix of cabbage and potatoes and was watery; I was expected more of a cabbage stir-fry. For breads, we loved the wo ($5.50) which is a vegan, black lentil pancake. I have only seen this dish in restaurants twice in my life and it was done really well here---savory and light. Comparatively, the roti ($3.25) was too thick. Himalayan and Gorkha Palace in Minneapolis are two of my favorites for Nepalese food. Namaste Cafe is also good, but expensive and more hipster. If you're looking for great food and a similar, but lighter, alternative to North Indian food, Himalayan is a winner.

Yelp
Sooooo delicious! I ordered the palak paneer and samosas. It was divine! The atmosphere was so nice and felt comfortable and the art around the restaurant was beautiful. If it wasn't raining I would have sat on the patio among the beautiful flowers. The service was excellent, friendly, and everyone seemed to want to help. Really kind people. And for those who love spicy: when you ask for extra spicy, they actually give it to you unlike so many restaurants! The spiciness also didn't overpower the flavor of the food, but it was a definite kick. Excellent and we will be back!!!!

Yelp
Sat outdoors in the nice outdoor seating. The garlic naan was by far the best thing - best garlic naan I've ever had. The samosas and momos were great appetizers. The daal soup was ok, I wouldn't get it again though. I got the chicken tikka masala which was rich and creamy with perfectly diced chicken. It was a delight dipping the garlic Naan into it. My friend had the goat curry with extra hot spice, he was a fan. Waiters were attentive and caring. Would be back in a heartbeat next time I'm in Minnesota!

Yelp
Good vibes. But, a very long wait and needs some TLC. Came here with my co-workers for a lunch. We had budgeted about an hour to get in, order, eat and leave. Unfortunately, it took much longer than anticipated. I ordered the Nepali noodles dish. I was expecting something similar to Pad Thai, but it was closer to a noodle soup. It was flavorful, but not completely what I had expected. The vibes this place has are great. Very peaceful. But, it's hard to miss the lack of organization and cleanliness.

Yelp
We were looking for a restaurant that was open on Christmas Eve late afternoon and Himalayan Restaurant saved the day. Food was delicious, warm and the portion size was huge. Even me with a big stomach couldn't finish eating my food lol The only reason I'm giving them 4 star instead of 5 is we had to wait 35 minutes after ordering the food and they handed out 6-7 takeout orders in the meantime :/ Will definitely come back with gf and order for takeout this time
