The Chef Behind Homemade by Bruno Found Purpose Through Pasta and Gelato - Eater Philly

"Homemade by Bruno is a cooking school led by chef Janine Bruno, offering classes on traditional Italian cooking and unique gelato flavors. It features a charming setup with exposed brick and a long wooden counter, creating a homely kitchen atmosphere. Bruno, who is self-taught, opened the studio after gaining local and international acclaim for her gelato and hosting in-home pasta-making classes. The studio also serves as a space for restaurant collaborations and special gelato releases." - Kae Lani Palmisano

What a great experience! Nick was fantastic. Very informative and chill and made our class super fun. I would highly recommend this class if you’re a foodie. We had the best time. Very authentic and super traditional recipes. 10/10!

Our amazing kids gave us a gift certificate for Christmas and we were finally able to clear our schedules to go this weekend... and we are so glad we did!! Olivia was a delight!! So knowledgeable and friendly! Our pasta may not have been perfectly shaped (we are artistically challenged!) but it was delicious. The sauces she made were outstanding! We're hoping to hire them for a private family event coming up! Thank you again for an amazing night!

I HIGHLY recommend taking the pasta class. Me and my group had the best time. Our chef was absolutely lovely and took his time helping us all get it right. The food was delicious 10/10 I had to ask for the recipe for that pesto sauce in the end because it was the best I’ve had.

Olivia is fantastic. She was engaging, funny and is very passionate about the food and it's history. The pasta was delicious and both the Pistachio Pesto Sauce and the San Marzano Tomato Sauce were amazing. The Gelato was truly the best I have ever tasted. What a fun-filled afternoon!!

Intimate experience for up to 6. Would be fun for a girl’s day out. Nick explained everything in detail and was very helpful to all. Small group lets everyone participate, hands on! Nick was very knowledgeable about all things Italy. Making pasta is not as daunting once you have good instruction and are given proper tools and ingredients. From the antipasto to the pastas and gelato overall great experience!

Amazing experience. We’ve taken other pasta classes and this has been the most knowledgeable and fun. Unlike other classes you won’t be able to make the pasta dough. However, our instructor Olivia, made some in front of us and there are opportunities to purchase the flour to make at home. The dough has to sit for like an hour so it’s understandable and doesn’t impact the experience. We loved being able to make so many shapes. We learned so much from the class and can’t wait to come back and try other methods. We had the Vodka Sauce and Cacio e Pepe sauce with our meal. Delicious! We left full and happy!

We LOVED the gluten free pasta making class! Everything about it from the experience, to the food to the education we learned. Would love more gluten free class opportunities. The 'true' gluten free/celiac world isn't that large but being able to connect with other people last night who have a gluten allergy and share travel experiences / personal food experiences was more than I could have expected. We were able to make 5 gluten free pastas, it was served with 2 sauces (a pesto and a tomato sauce). In addition there was a charcuterie plate made when we got there, slices bread and olive oil along with amazing homemade gelato at the end! The gluten free dough was already prepped when we got there, but our instructor, Olivia was more than willing to talk about how she made it and how to perfect gluten free pasta. All of the tools were pretty simple and can be bought at home to replicate. She said sometimes they do sell the tools in shop, but didn't have any available that evening. Our instructor was great, she made the class unique to each person attending and had a lot of knowledge to share on pasta making, wine, Italy and so much more. She truly made it a memorable experience. I can't wait to come back and bring friends! Can't recommend enough!

This class was so fun! As others have said, the dough is already made when you arrive because it needs time to rest. But our instructor made sure to show the class how to make the dough with a stand mixer so we can easily make it at home. I loved that the class was very small and intimate, just 8 people at bar top seating, so we all had a view of the instructor and it made for great conversation and fun. We enjoyed some charcuterie and Sicilian wine, but remember to BYO, too! We made about five pasta shapes and I felt that the portions of the pasta dishes were plenty for dinner. We had two delightful red and pesto sauces. This is a really fun experience for people who appreciate good food. Thanks to our fabulous instructor, Janine!
