Honest Crust Sourdough Pizza - Review - Northern Quarter - Manchester - The Infatuation

"Honest Crust was the pioneer of Manchester’s pizza revolution, and it’s no exaggeration to say that the enormous success of Altrincham Market (and later Mackie Mayor in Manchester city centre) can be put down to these sourdough experts. Operating within these bustling food halls, where communal tables hum with large groups feasting on everything from bao and tacos to steak frites, Honest Crust stands out for its perfectly blistered crusts, floppy-but-not-too-soggy base, and high-quality toppings. Puritanism isn’t a bad approach here, with two of the best options being their marinara or Atomica! (where ‘nduja and mozzarella join tomato). Bianca pies shine, too, letting seasonal ingredients like pumpkin and sage take centre stage. photo credit: Tajda Ferko photo credit: Tajda Ferko photo credit: Tajda Ferko Pause Unmute" - Joel Hart

Upon entering Mackie Mayor, we are greeted by the enticing aroma of wood-fired pizzas, prepared right before our eyes. The open kitchen concept allows us patrons to witness the craftsmanship behind each pizza, adding to the authenticity of the dining experience. The sourdough crust, fermented to perfection, offers a delightful tanginess and airy texture that sets it apart from conventional pizza bases. Each pizza is expertly crafted with a perfectly thin, crispy crust that serves as the canvas for an explosion of flavors. The menu boasts a variety of inventive toppings, from classic Margherita to innovative combinations like Nduja sausage with honey and fennel, or more adventurous flavors like roasted squash with sage and goat cheese. The staff exemplifies hospitality, providing attentive service without overshadowing the laid-back atmosphere. Whether you're a regular or a first-time visitor, you'll feel right at home amidst the welcoming ambiance. Overall a genuine taste of Italian tradition fused with local flair.

I really didn’t enjoy the pizza here. All the toppings fell off when you picked up each slice. Really wasn’t great. The garlic butter dip however. Would have that with every meal.

Excellent pizza. One of the best in Manchester without a doubt. The base is chewy, perfectly cooked in their pizza ovens. Fantastic tomato sauce, I have seen them making it fresh from whole tomatoes and well seasoned.

Solid offering of pizza here, made to order in a wood fire oven.

I'm sure the pizzas are usually amazing but on this occasion I would say chefs need to taste test their food as unfortunately the salami of the day was soggy due to blended tomato sauce not being reduced before using as a sauce. Great building very nice urban city food vibe

Pizza took nearly 40 minutes to get to me. Basic margarita and salami cost me 14.50 and arrived soggy in the middle. Once cut, the ends of each slide were wet, watery and under done. I ate two slices hoping it would get better, but sadly I had to leave the majority. I usually eat anything in front of me, bit of a food hoover myself, but in this case I could not finish it. The product was not worth the money and the wait. The only reason this is 2 stars and not 1 star is that management and staff were very professional and courteous in understanding my disappointment and organised a refund for me. On the other hand, my friend also ordered from there and his pizza was apparently lovely. Maybe it was just me, I was looking forward to this meal as it was a treat for the money, I was seeing friends and it made the whole occasion a bit awkward and generally disappointing. Sorry Honest Crust, maybe this crust wasn't as honest as your usual.

Disappointed. Rude staff. And we came at 11am following the opening time on google maps, to enjoy pizza before our train at 12:30. And they told us that they are not planning to open for another hour.

DIS-Honest crust more like. Idiots in the culinary business. Miss selling the menu, basically lying on it with the ingredients. What I mean by this is listing the items like so: Spicy nduja Salami Basil Mozerella To anyone with a brain this is nduja + salami. I’ve had nduja countless times I know exactly what is it but when the pizzas ingredients are listed like that it’s very unclear that you’re selling the pizza with nduja alone and not with salami also. Just like if you listed a pizza: Bacon Pork You’d expect bacon and pork. Not the idiot guide to where bacon originates from. Anyway the end product was a solid 3.2/10 soggy base with too much flop. Nice one
