Out of the gate, this was easily one of the best meals I'd enjoyed in years, and while the food was terrific, the sensory ride was unforgettable, beginning with the eye candy. The dishes on our table, every last thing that landed, was a delight to look at, then smell, and then taste, and the lavoush sounded great between my teeth.
Simply put, for my inexperienced tongue, the Autumn set menu (our table of four all ordered, 32 pounds per person, it was a birthday celebration) elevated everything I thought I knew about Moroccan and Middle Eastern food. An eight-item sampler of sauces, burned dips, grilled vegetables, and some of the more imaginative spicing and seasoning I'd enjoyed anywhere, provided one of those dining experiences where you start slow, stuff yourself over great conversation for an hour or so, and then enjoy basically the main course (the "grill" is a selection of meats and proteins, and veggie options, I chose the Bamya). Oh, and that sourdough! And finally they came to take leftovers away and I coveted every bite in front of me, hoarded that s*it, and ate every bite, all while recognizing that I didn't have any room in my stomach to put everything. Funny how that works.
Now that I've read up a bit on restauranteurs Sarit Packer and Itamar Srulovich, I'm quite confident this was a rarity, an opportunity to enjoy world class cuisine at a moment in time when they're still a tad under-the-radar. Go.
