3.5 STARS
If I didn't know any better, I would have walked out...
Staff was hella nice.
It was spotlessly clean.
It was filled with over 80% tourists.
No "secret" menu. IYKYN.
Lastly, they have 4 Stars on yelp.
I prefer my Chinese food with sticky menus thrown at me, FOH yelling at the BOH, divey non-insta vibes, mixed reviews, and kids at the corner table doing their homework.
Hon's Wun Tun House has been a city institution for over half a decade. Haven't visited their OG location on Kearny since high school. They close early so we visited their newer location on Washington an hour before closing. I was surprised to see most of the customers were tourists on a Thursday evening.
The Washington location is open for takeout, delivery, and indoor dining only (Kearny location has outdoor seating).

Best known for their wonton noodle soup and green onion pancake but they have an extensive menu including dumplings and Chinese-American dishes.
Jook and cheung fun noodles are served from 11 am - 3 pm.
They have coconut desserts similar to Melo Melo and Tong Sui.

* F1 小笼包 XLB - Pork Soup Dumplings (6 pc - $15.95) // 4 Stars: https://tinyurl.com/4famvw53
For a Canto resto, the XLB was surprisingly bomb! Thin, chewy skin with savory pork filling and hella brothy. Yes, these babies squirt across the table. IMO, on par with the XLBs from Dumpling Home and Dumpling Story but overpriced and more expensive (minus 1 star).
* I10 避風塘大腸 - Chef Rec: Fried Pork Intestines w/ chili peppers ($17.95) // 3 Stars https://tinyurl.com/ywpapum8
The exterior lowkey reminded me of cebu lechon with a shatteringly crunchy glass skin. But, too salty from the fermented black beans and had a strong barnyard funk from possibly not being cleaned thoroughly.
I have yet to find fried pork intestines in the city as bomb as Shang Café in Cupertino/San Jose. Please LMK know your recs in the city!
* E3 柱侯牛腩雲吞麵 Beef Brisket Wonton Noodle Soup ($14.95) // 3.5 Stars
https://tinyurl.com/yr8rjpst
Mixed bag. The egg noodles were perfectly al-dente and springy with a cronch. The pork and shrimp wontons were plump and savory. The brisket (rough flank) needed to be braised longer, it was chewy and on the tough side. The pork and seafood based broth was hella salty and hard to enjoy more than several sips. If you like your food aggressively seasoned, it may be fine for you tho.

All female staff was very warm, friendly, and efficient. Despite being busy, our entire order arrived in less than 10 minutes.

Modern and bustling with ample indoor seating. Views into the dumpling making station and open kitchen.

Easily found street parking on a weeknight after 7 pm but otherwise park at the Portsmouth Square Garage (half block away) for $4/hour.
Overall, if you're in Chinatown, Hon's is worth hitting up if you're craving Canto comfort food. Glad I tried their food again for nostalgia sake.
