Fancy, Dog-Friendly Restaurants are Booming Right Now | Bon Appétit

"A San Antonio dog-friendly bar opened in May 2020 that combines a human drinking space with off-leash play areas shaded by oak trees and a calendar of events (birthday and adoption parties, theme nights); it draws large weekly crowds (about 1,600 people) and serves dog-specific menu items such as the Quarter Hounder (ground beef patty), Chicken Paw Pie (grilled chicken bites) and a house Puppuccino drizzled in warm peanut butter sauce." - ByAli Francis

Really cool and relaxed place to bring your dogs and have some drinks. There's plenty of space for you and your dog to chill. There's a bunch of tables and chairs and lots of TVs to watch a game. The drinks are good. I was pleasantly surprised by their beer selection. They don't have their own food, but they do have some food trucks in the corner of the place that have pretty solid food!

Hobbs & Hounds is such a gem for dog lovers and foodies alike! 🐾 The space is wide, full of energy, and packed with seating options—picnic tables, fans to keep you cool, and plenty of screens to catch the game while you enjoy food from the taco trucks and drinks from the bar. The highlight is definitely the dog play area: ramps, toys, balls, and open space where pups can run freely off leash while owners relax. Families, friends, and their four-legged companions all have a spot here. And let’s not forget the music—DJ Anthony (switchbladedave) kept the atmosphere alive with great beats, adding to the fun vibe of the patio. It really makes the place not just a hangout, but an experience. We’re also thrilled to share that Hobbs & Hounds is now No Pet Policy™ Approved ✅. Supporting local, supporting community, and opening their doors to our four-legged partners.

They are the best local bars. Great bartender. Maxine made my best friends wedding event a hit by providing a last minute reserved space and a champagne toast for the party! You dont need a hound to hop on by lol

Wow!! Anytime we travel, we look for a dog friendly place that has an off leash area for the pups. This place is wonderful. The pizza was delish the coffee drinks were so good and the staff was friendly. The dog park area had tons of room and fun activities for the pups. This is a MUST stop if you have dogs. Let them get out and run around while you grab a bite to eat. Very clean and safe area for them to play in. Great job, whoever owns this!! We definitely will be back here if we are in TX again. Thanks for the fun time

Hops and Hounds caters to humans and their owners (their dogs) quite well. I actually really love this place. I love that a place like this was thought of and made reality. It quite simply has amazing aura. It's probably because of all the good pups and good people that love them all being in the same place enjoying the same thing. The staff are super friendly and helpful folks who you can tell really love dogs. Expect that if your dog looks thirsty, they will be served fresh cool water randomly by the staff, which is so wonderful! The beautiful downtown location is a lovely park-like setting near the San Antonio Museum of Art and accessible directly to the Riverwalk. It's a special spot, one of the few in the world where it's just a place to come and have a few with your best four-legged friend. Relax have a small variety of different dishes, and let those doggos play! Downloading their app allows you to purchase a day pass for your spayed/neutered dog to go run around in a fenced area with some field toys and all their other dog friends. There's also a free fenced-off area to bring them to let them go sniff around in an open field. There is plenty of shade near the bar area and comfortable couches. The picnic style tables closer to the food trucks have little lock bars to hook your leashed dog to while you eat. Everything about this place screams "dog friendly! human friendly!" Well worth a visit if you're ever looking for a place to relax and bring your dog to in downtown San Antonio, for sure!

I really love this place. I foud this hops & hounds better put together than the other one. Which I heard was closed down to several reasons. They have someone at the gates monitoring the larger dog park area and the smaller dog park area. She is very friendly, kind and amazing and well knowledgeable about dogs. You can tell one she has a deep understanding of animals and a great love for animals. I also think it's cool that they have this bathe your dog station. After play time is offer. Is $15 for 20min. We have two small Bostons so we knock two birds with one stone. And she gave us some towels to dry them since they were not having it with the blow dryer lol My babies were so happy to interact with other dogs. And they other dog parents were very polite and friendly. I had a very pleasant experience and I can't wait to go back and I am sure my fur babies either. The bathroom facility were c Kept clean and if there was an issue you just bring it to their attention and they take care of it right away. I love how attentive they were to keep a bathroom clean for their customers. If I could give more than five stars I would. As for food trucks. The options they had the day we went....Lobster truck very delicious but super expensive. Amazingly good but will I buy again for the price nah. Another food truck had different selection probably american food/Tex Mex maybe. My daughter hater the corn in the cup. I don't like it to begin with but I tried a bit and I have to agree it tasted like vomit. So um we kept it safe and exchanged for just plane fries. The other truck wasn't working that day. The bar has good mix drinks, over price if you ask me. But I got it for my husband. It was good he like it. ***Military Discount accepted here***

Ambiance: Fun and open outdoor bar/food truck space with an onsite dog park perfect for dog lovers looking to enjoy a nice day! This is one of the cutest spots in San Antonio for pet owners! They offer multiple seating options, from high top tables to hammocks to picnic tables. There is also seating at the bar. Multiple TVs including a large screen at the entrance, perfect for watching a big game. Onsite coffee stand and food trucks as well as beers on tap make this the perfect spot for morning or night. Street parking available. Tons of dogs and fun dog-themed decor/backdrops. This is the perfect place for a large group hangout, solo day out with your dog, or to enjoy a nice day.

I would love to give it 5 stars, but often the outdoor music is still too loud for even outdoor communication, there's not great monitoring of people leaving their dog mess around the eating areas (not enough staff or consequences for dog owners that don't use the dog poop materials provided for clean up). No cash is allowed for the coffee or beverage counter on site, so come prepared. The food is awesome at each of the trucks available. There are plenty of places to sit, with water stations posted in several spots. Staff has maintained friendly demeanor regardless of what time I've arrived, and there are plenty of shaded areas for people and pups. Plenty of room to work on your puppy/dog skills, just like any area for dogs/food/drinks, be mindful of your dog's manners and ask before up to pet new dogs!
