Hot Bowl White Curry Mee

"White curry mee is served in a coconut milk-based broth with a bowl of curry paste on the side so that you can adjust the heat to your liking. The curry paste is available for sale by the bottle; it takes two hours to hand-stir the spices with dried shrimps and chillies. Optionally, pair your mee with deboned steamed chicken, spiced loh bak or Teochew guang jiang. The clear broth noodle soup with chicken meatballs is also worth trying." - Michelin Inspector

We came at 2 PM on Sunday afternoon and there is a lot of people, and parking was also an issue. If it’s just a small group, you can try to share a table and find your own seat. Once you’re seated, get the QR code from the staff to order. I ordered the large curry noodles — the bowl was big, but the portion was actually quite small. Luckily, it tasted good. There was also a bowl of chili on the table so you could adjust the flavor yourself. The poached chicken was also delicious. Many tourists come here to eat.

Had to try this much talked about place for white curry noodles and white chicken. White curry noodles was very satisfying. It had a rich and creamy broth and the aromatic chili paste provided an umami flavour to the broth. Chili paste was very spicy though, add a bit first. Loved the white chicken which was tender and silky smooth. 5-spiced meat roll was very delicious too. Fishball was authentic and tasted homemade with quality fish meat. Tissue provided at the counter. Service was slow during lunch hour. Best to come around 2pm when there's less crowd.

When we came around 9am on a Sunday the place was rather empty. We ordered at the counter. The white curry mee came in a bowl with only the broth and you have to mix in the curry sauce. I didn’t realize that it would be so spicy even though I put in a teaspoon. We also had the steamed chicken which was done just right and very flavorful. By the time we finished, there was already a long queue waiting for seats.

My go to white curry mee when I am in town. The fragrant chilli paste oil is the one that alters the colour and spice level. So go easy on the chilli paste ;) Poach chicken is a must to eat too. So smooth, succulent and the soy sauce on it mix with their chilli sauce is Yums! They have lots of yummy side dishes too. Perut ikan here is not the one I am use to. I can smell the fish but can't find perut ikan but that bowl has a full ingredients. Parking here is difficult. Lunch hour is pack usually. Breakfast is a good time to head over.

Hot Bowl White Curry Noodles offers a truly flavourful and unique take on white curry — even the plain version with just noodles stands out with its rich, aromatic broth. It’s clear that the star of the menu is the curry itself, which delivers a satisfying depth that’s hard to find elsewhere. However, the prawns seem like already being processed , so that it could get the extra crunchy texture. However, a few aspects of the dining experience could be improved. The iced lemon tea was quite ordinary and didn’t complement the meal well. The ambiance also leaves something to be desired; the air conditioning is weak and the lighting feels a bit dim. One noticeable downside was the smelly tablecloth used for cleaning, which affected the overall hygiene impression.

Been coming here for more than 10 years and the quality is still very good. They managed to retain their flavour, standards and very well deserving of their Michelin bib gourmand title. As much as I love their curry noodle, I love their steam white chicken even more. My favourite would be order and have them together for the best combination for an even better dish.

All in all a pretty good spot for Penang style curry mee. Loh Bak took a very long time to arrive, after we finished our curry mee. Also, I noticed that majority of the customers are from mainland China.

Simple yet very good penang white curry noodles. Only thing is there’s no duck blood in this. The sambal is on the table, add to your own liking of spiciness. Difficult spot to find parking. May have to double park and the staff will call out if you’re blocking the way. Heard their chicken rice is good as well, trying it next time.

Yelp
White curry mee is rather unusual. Think they use coconut milk. The chicken here was tender but I remember that it was even more tender when we visited in the past. This is one of our go to food when in Penang. I usually order bee hoon with cuttlefish, cockles and tauhu. They have duck's blood too. There are many combinations and all are clearly spelt out. Not too crowded. Park along the road.
