The Best Restaurants and Food-Focused Hotels in the Alps | Eater

"A sensitive 2016 refurbishment of a once-celebrated 1960s ski-in/ski-out hotel that retains period fabrics in mandarin, violet and turquoise and cozy wood-lined nooks, evoking a warm retro alpine atmosphere that blends vintage charm with contemporary comfort." - Michelle Tchea

Ski Hotels of the French Alps

"There's no chance you'll miss the Hotel des Dromonts. The quirky, pyramid-like architecture is truly eye-catching and inspired by Le Corbusier." - Mark Fedeli

These Retro French Ski Towns Are Trendy Once Again

"This place channels the past more directly, with its curved archways and sheepskins evoking Connery-era Bond. When the Sibuet family remodeled it in 2013, they weren't allowed to mess with the bones of Jacques Labro's hotel, which is still a design wonder. The rooms may be small, but the communal spaces are a treat. Doubles from $285"

I booked a visit here to celebrate my partner and my engagement. We didn't stay in the hotel but were able to pop in and book a deep tissue massage with Jean and one other (apologies for forgetting the name). A perfect way to end our week's skiing trip! We both came out feeling amazing and re-energized. We were able to use the spa facilities prior to our booking, so we arrived an hour early. An external hot tub with amazing views is next to a sauna with a steam room and additional sauna inside the spa and basic Gym facilities. Very convenient. There were complimentary refreshments—detox water and pastries—with access to the menu. All of the staff were friendly and accommodating. We would like to thank you.

Had a lovely time on a late ski break at this hotel. It's kitsch and retro in a really charming way, and very well looked after and clean. The staff were all so polite, friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived until the moment we checked out. The rooms were cosy with lots of cubbyholes to store clothes and ski gear.||Fondue in the restaurant was great (so nice to be able to have fondue for one, for a change!) and there were plenty of options at breakfast every morning, including the creamiest scrambled eggs. I definitely recommend it and I'm planning to come back in the future.||One tip - take ear plugs if you're a light sleeper, as the bar across the road is open until the early hours (during ski season) and you can hear their more enthusiastic customers heading home. :)

⭐ 1/5 – Absolutely unacceptable experience I wish I could give zero stars. My stay here was a nightmare from start to finish. The rooms were filthy, with visible stains and an awful smell. The food was barely edible cold, tasteless, and certainly not worth the price. Worst of all, the hotel fraudulently charged my bank account twice on purpose. Despite multiple attempts to resolve it, the staff were dismissive, rude, and entirely unhelpful. No one took accountability, and I’m still struggling to get my money back. I strongly advise against staying here. Not only is the service horrendous, but they engage in highly questionable business practices. Avoid at all costs!

Myself and my partner stayed in the hotel recently for 4 nights. The hotel is closely located to the slopes and has a good ski room. We weren’t well organised with dinner reservations but the hotel were able to fit us in. We had dinner in both restaurants and the food was excellent. The staff were really nice and friendly and we felt couldn’t do any more for us. We would definitely stay again.

Loved this hotel. Very quirky layout and decor. Like being in a Hobbit house from Lord of the Rings. All the staff were brilliant. The room was excellent. |Breakfast was what you would expect for a buffet meal enough to keep you stocked up for the day. As for the dinner menu, every meal we had was superb, the main issue we had was there was too much of it, the portions were very generous to say the least. I defy anybody to eat the full three courses. We ended up eating just starter and pudding. Yes the ski room is a little small but it was never an issue. On our return home day because it was such an early pick up time we'd asked if there was any chance of leaving a couple of croissants out for us. What we actually got was a large doggy bag with enough food to keep us going all the way back to Manchester. A really nice hotel with great staff.

This hotel is wonderful. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Especially Melina and also Marie Helen, Charlyne and Sebastian. Nothing is too much trouble. The Room was clean and very comfortable. Breakfast and dinner are excellent I had a wonderful facial by Thiphanie and the best deep tissue massage ever by Jean- Baptiste. Dinner was fabulous. Cooked to perfection by Julian and served by Ysabel and Charley followed by drinks in the bar served by Fanny. All in all the best experience and we will be returning next year.

I had an outstanding deep tissue massage with Jean Baptiste in the extraordinary retro spa of the Hotel des Dromonts, Avoriaz.||If you like 70s decor this is a truly unique location and with the added bonus of an incredible masseur, sensitive to my needs, aches and pains...and I felt amazing afterwards. ||I also had access to the outdoor hot tub and sauna and indoor sauna and hammam. ||Lots of awesome 70's furniture in what seems to have been the nightclub of the hotel way back then.
