I don’t normally write reviews but I feel as though this hotel and its staff warrant such a glowing review. |This hotel was absolutely perfect for my family of 4 travelling from the UK. It was in a super safe area and easily accessible for all the major sightseeing attractions. The staff at the hotel were so accommodating- the nicest group of staff we have ever come across. The rooms had such a cool vibe and were exceptionally clean and well organised. |We cannot recommend highly enough this hotel and its staff and if we were lucky enough to return to this city this would be the place we would return to. |Thank you to all the staff for making our stay so exceptionally wonderful.

Rooms and hallways are tight and tiny . Breakfast was pretty average. The building is in a great location and affordable with the less amenities. The bar on the deck seems to be a popular hangout spot with anyone allowed up there and its located in middle of a college. But didn't find it to be extra loud at night. The rooms has everything you need. Since we didn't really hangout in the room just slept and bathed.

We booked a loft room for the night of July 4th so that we could watch the fireworks. The room was on the small side, but it was excellent. We knew that going in and frankly, a big hotel room is just a waste of space. I need a bed, a bathroom and a quiet, safe place to stay; Hotel Hive checks all of those boxes.|We walked from the Foggy Bottom-GWU Metro stop to the hotel (easy walk, 3 blocks 0.3 miles, flat ground). The check-in was painless, quick and efficient. Everything in the top floor room worked as it should, everything was clean, the bed was comfortable. The windows had blinds that almost completely darkened the room. The A/C eventually caught up with the typical summer Washington D.C. heat & humidity but once it got the room cooled down, it was fine. (most hotels do not adequately cool unoccupied rooms, a practice that is intended to save money/energy and likely fails to save money/energy) |The downstairs bar was fantastic and was staffed by good bartenders. The hotel location is excellent, situated just far enough from the west end of the national mall to be out of the super touristy zone and just close enough to be convenient. The area is very much a part of the George Washington University campus. |I purchased tickets for the rooftop bar event so that we could watch the fireworks. I was not completely satisfied with that experience. I don’t want to disparage an otherwise fine hotel due to the shortcomings of that private event on the 4th of July. The hotel did fall short of expectations with that event but was otherwise excellent.

Hotel Hive offers a welcoming atmosphere where every guest can feel comfortable. 1. Genuinely friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable staff 2. Terrifically walkable and safe location 3. Relatively close to major DC attractions and to the Foggy Bottom Metro Station 4. Lively restaurant and bar 5. Suggestion: select rooms according to your preferences: bunk or queen 6. Well priced off-site parking Would definitely stay here again!

I was very surprised by my first day at this type of compact Hotel. If you are a fancy person that needs a lot of space, this is not the place for you. However, if you enjoy a place where you can get a lot of people together in the same space, have some fun or do a business retreat, this is the place. They have everything you need in a clean location with very nice service. The breakfast and the pizzas and the bar there were actually really good. I was surprised they could make me a whiskey sidecar. The breakfast was pretty good. I would definitely recommend this format! Are bartender. Waitress in the morning was great and the cooks were nice to talk to. They helped out when I forgot my key! Great location right next to GW!

Didi at the front desk is amazing. She was so helpful with an issue my friend and I both had when booking the hotel. She ended up sorting it all out for us and was so kind and understanding. The hotel is small but very clean, reasonable, and in a great location. Amazing spot and I will definitely stay again when I come back to visit. Thank you Didi! You are spectacular!

We had a fantastic stay at Hotel Hive! From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The rooms were spotless and thoughtfully designed—clean, comfortable, and perfect for a city getaway. A special shout-out to Max, who truly went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. His attention to detail and genuine care made a huge difference. Thanks, Max! If you’re visiting D.C. and looking for a cool, clean, and friendly place to stay, I highly recommend Hotel Hive!

Yelp
Such a lovely experience. I was lucky enough to check in around 2:30pm, on a Sunday (6/30/2024). James and Q were at the front desk when I arrived. James checked me in and informed me I had been giving an upgraded room, which was such a treat. They were very personable and it was so easy to check in. The room I was given was perfect and I really love that I received a text message from Q asking if the room was to my expectations (and if I required anything additional) a little after I checked in. I was able to relax before a planned dinner with Friends and it was so nice to see Q at the desk when I get as ready to leave. I really love how amazing her customer service skills are. We had a friendly conversation before I stepped out (her attention to detail is phenomenal, really personalizes the experience) When I arrived back at the hotel Q was there and asked me how dinner was. I really felt at home here. This is my first time staying at Hive Hotel and James and Q make me want to come back whenever I'm in town. I'm very fortunate to be a flight attendant and get to stay in many hotels all around the country. It is rare that I pay for a hotel and I can say, I will definitely be back, this was such a fantastic experience.

Yelp
Hotel Hive is in walking distance of the GWU Campus, the US State Department, and the Watergate Hotel. I highly recommend this location for a night or two. The customer service was awesome, and the environment is really laid back and hip. The entrance has a cozy dining area with a bar and across from that area is an &Pizza. Other amenities include a rooftop bar with sectionals and fireplaces. The hotel offers happy hour prices on food and drinks from 3 to 6pm. The room was very clean and modern with a brick wall and wooden beams across the ceiling, windows that offered a nice street view of the GWU campus. A mini desk in the room and the shower had surplus pumps of shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner. Parking for 24 hours costs $24 dollars at a parking garage across the street. The bedding was soft, and the pillows were fluffy. They offer breakfast sandwiches and coffee in the morning. I would have liked to have seen a snack bar and 32oz waters for sale. Luckily &Pizza had 8 oz waters and soda for sale aside from sweets, there were no chips. I went out for dinner, would like to see them add a burger and a simple salad to the &Pizza partnership. Overall, I was comfortable, and I felt safe. I would stay here again. The convenience of getting an extra hour of rest to be near the conference was a plus. Hotel Hive deserves all the buzz!

Yelp
This review is for the rooftop bar only. Came on a Wednesday evening around 8:00pm and was able to find a seat easily. There's a bar area both in the lobby and on the rooftop and both were pretty empty. The rooftop is nice and spacious with a lot of great seating and televisions to watch. Super casual vibe. While the space is great for groups the elevator to go up is small and a little precarious-- only really meant to hold two people. I had a rosemary G&T that was surprisingly on the bland side. Wouldn't rush to come back but enjoyed the rooftop overall for a casual spacious place to grab a drink and watch the sun set.

Yelp
A cute hotel with tiny yet functional rooms. I booked this hotel last minute and it was the only room available on a busy graduation weekend. I enjoyed my short stay there. It had everything that I needed and was surprisingly so comfortable. The hotel serves breakfast in the morning and there is a restaurant right next door that you can access through the lobby. I recommend this if you are on a quick solo trip in DC and you want to be within walking distance from all the monuments and museums.

Yelp
Beware of double charges! Almost every time I've stayed at this hotel, I've been charged twice, with the staff giving a different excuse each time. They've blamed "payment processing errors," my "virtual card (Apple Pay)," and even claimed their "new payment system" was causing issues. Each time, I've had to go through the hassle of calling my bank and the hotel staff or manager to fix the problem. This last stay was especially frustrating. I specifically warned Anthony at the front desk that my card might get double-charged and asked him to prevent it--but he smiled, assured me it was fine, and then double-charged me anyway. I spent half an hour waiting while he called James, the assistant manager, who also didn't seem to know what to do. Ultimately, I had to make multiple follow-ups to get my refund. For anyone considering a stay here, don't let the positive reviews fool you. The hotel pushes for good reviews when you've had a decent experience. Be vigilant with your credit card statements and watch for extra charges or fees!

Yelp
First, and most important: SMALL rooms, noisy until ~10:15p. A great option for sight-seeing solo travelers who want an inexpensive place to sleep but be out all day. The hotel is 3 blocks away from the Foggy Bottom/GWU metro stop (blue, silver, orange lines hit a lot of the sights) with bus stops a block away. Right on George Washington campus - a beautiful, tree-covered, and safe neighborhood. Nearby restaurants are tucked in everywhere - sandwiches, breakfast/brunch, fancy-ish sitdowns. The room has plug and USB outlets; the ceiling mount air conditioner is STRONG. Housekeeping on request only. Beware there is a ground floor bar that you can hear the music and laughter/chatter until around 10:15p, but it's a city hotel, so you will hear the traffic and sirens anyway. Save your cash for tickets and tours and stay at this bargain spot.

Yelp
Really a great option for an overnight in DC. This place is tiny and cute. Staff was friendly. Bartender was great. The rooftop bar is awesome. Super affordable.

Yelp
Great hospitality specially the guy at the front lobby. The bar would be nice more help but still good drinks and place. The rooftop nice!

Yelp
Hotel Hive prides itself on being the first micro hotel in that area, I was expecting a boutique type hotel. I attended a conference held on the campus of George Washington University and this was one of the hotels that was giving us a group rate. One of my colleagues said she felt like she was in the dorms. My other colleague said that it reminded her of an upscale hostel. My room was in the basement with quite a bit of outside noise. No closet and you have to request ironing board and cleaning service. It's very convenient as it is right on the college campus and walking distance to the national mall and plenty of restaurants and shops. There's a pizzeria with a bar downstairs and outdoor seating. There's one elevator that is very slow and very small. Now that I know what it is, I would never stay again, but if you're just looking for a place to sleep that's in a convenient spot, this could be it .

Yelp
My sister works as a front desk hotel manager so I get hear a lot about the workings of a hotel. The crew at Hotel Hive should be training all other hotels. They are hands down the best customer service team I've ever experienced with traveling. Specifically- Q and Shantae they both have this unmatched energy that is genuine and not cheesy - they start the experience. Rooms are small but they're clean and I had everything I needed. Great water pressure and it was always HOT! We enjoyed evening sunsets at the rooftop bar. The breakfast sandwich was my fav.

Yelp
I have written rave reviews about my stays at Hotel Hive. I have only given it four stars this time because of the many disappointments on the food and beverage end during our four day stay. The staff were ALL great and that being said, I'm not sure how much they could control what occurred. The espresso machine was broken the entire time we were there, the coffee cups for the very hot coffee had NO lids and we are getting into a Lyft right after we got our coffee, they were missing several of the liquor for the drinks they feature on their menu, they had no olives for the martinis and the mint they put in my Moscow Mule should have been composted or thrown away - not put in my cocktail. I know the bartenders were frustrated as well. It's not their fault there was no Grey Goose for the five days I stayed there. Please! I realize these seem like first world problems but the number of "misses" kept adding up. Will I stay there again? You bet. I hope they get their act together on the food and beverage side. Every other time the bar has been packed (the roof top bar was well stocked but with limited choices) and the bar on the main floor was like a ghost town for the most part.

Yelp
I would have given this place 5 stars if it wasn't for the couple next door. I booked two nights here with the full understanding it is a micro hotel where you go and sleep, so a very nice step up from a hostel to get some privacy at a good price. First of all, it's not cheap, I got it with miles but it's around $120 a night. They have a nice bar downstairs (apparently up in the rooftop too but it was cold), plus the pizza place next door was really good too, so enough hangout areas. Staff was very kind and helpful as well. The room itself was bigger than I expected, plenty of space to move around and set your stuff. Bathroom was small but sufficient, though the shower head could use an upgrade. They had all the soaps needed plus a hair dryer. Bed was comfortable, and at least in November the temperature was adequate. Now why two stars? The stars are for the pros, the lack of 3 is because the walls are paper thin! I recommended the lady at the front desk to warn patrons of this. The couple next door, besides being annoying, they decided to have very loud and deep conversations at 3am and 4am respectively each night I was there. It was absolutely ridiculous. Consider they weren't yelling but just talking loudly, you'd think they would hear me when I spoke up to say they were loud. They even brought extra people the second evening to have some even louder chats. I thought I would at least get some sleep on this little getaway but these rude people didn't understand micro hotels are for sleeping, not for disturbing your neighbors.

Yelp
The hotel and room was nice and friendly staff. Enjoyed my stay as far as all that goes. The bar and service is terrible though. They don't make bloody marys and don't have coffee. Very slow service.

Yelp
First time staying in a micro hotel, and it has helped me become less claustrophobic. Great customer service at the front desk. DC Pizza at &Pizza was not bad, but it could be an off day and a personal preference. Give it a try though!

Yelp
I have been staying at Hotel Hive for years now. It became a haven during the pandemic for quick weekend getaways. Additionally, I've stayed here for more extended stays for business and leisure in DC including board exams, birthdays, graduation celebrations as well as reprieves from the stresses of life. It's always clean, the rooftop bar is lovely, and the staff goes above and beyond. It is a micro-hotel, so the rooms are small but clean, well planned, but much tighter than the traditional American layout. Go with the Loft King or Hive King for more space. One of my favorite features is that they are pet friendly. I often travel with my dog, and when I do, I don't have to worry about additional fees. Sadly my most recent experience with them left much to be desired. After a long night of travel-related delays, I arrived to check in around 1:30 am. After paying, I was shocked to find I'd be staying in their basement after spending over $1000. I have never lodged in their cellar during previous stays. It was surprising that despite being a loyal lodger, no upgrades were applied to ensure I received a more comfortable room with an actual window. I returned and informed the young lady at the front that I would not be staying. She informed me no other rooms were available, and I requested a refund. She told me she couldn't do so and would need to call a manager. After numerous attempts, a manager answered and told her to get my email and that the refund would be processed the next day. She hung up and explained this to me, and I told her I was unwilling to leave without a refund of such a large amount. It took her several attempts to get the same manager back on the phone. After much deliberation, the refund was credited. I was left to search DC for another hotel. I didn't get settled in another until 5:30 am after another horrible experience and failed attempt with nearby State Plaza Hotel (see review for details) I settled on finding a place where my loyalty would be rewarded. (Thanks Marriott Bonvoy and AC Hotel Downtown see review) I am genuinely disappointed in Hive. I think they are a wonderful stay overall, but the lack of regard for their most loyal customers leaves much to be desired. I'd prefer to patronize a more local hotel that I've called home countless times but not at the expense of customer service.

Yelp
The good: the location can't be beat. It's a twelve-minute walk from the Lincoln Memorial and near the Foggy Bottom stop, which means you can get to pretty much all the tourist spots very quickly. It's also a great place to stay if you're traveling on a budget and really just want a place to crash for the night. The staff is fairly responsive--there was always someone at the front desk who was ready to help out. The AC was also a huge relief. Finally, our room was much quieter than I was expecting from the reviews, although we did specifically pay for one of the loft rooms--I imagine that the "buzz" rooms were louder, especially the ones right over the bar. The bad: our first night there, we found a gross, moldy pizza someone had mistakenly left the in the room safe. The cleaners had somehow missed it. Frankly, it made me wonder just how clean the room really was and paranoid about what else had been missed. I'm also not sure the staff in the bar/restaurant really understand food allergies/sensitivies. I'm lactose intolerant, which I told our server, and he said that I could just add vegan cheese to any pizza. The problem is that obviously lactose is in more than just the cheese. He was pretty dismissive, though to be fair, he was also really busy--I think he was the only server at the time. Of course, later that night, I started experiencing symptoms of lactose intolerance...the night before my flight. Fun. Something else to know is that the bar/restaurant close REALLY early, at 10 PM. Finally, the hotel does not offer complimentary breakfast, only complimentary coffee, which they were constantly running out of. Overall, I probably wouldn't stay here again if I had a choice. It reminded me of the times I've stayed at a hostel, except at least at a hostel, you're paying way, way, way, less. Here, I felt like I was paying for some odd hybrid of hostel slash hotel, where my expectations kept falling short.

Yelp
Hotel Hive , Washington DC. Bringing hospitality to a new level! Thank you for your kindness and professionalism, Chanta, Brooke, "Q," Darrell, James and although the managers.

Yelp
Very much enjoyed the experience at Hotel Hive! Obviously this is a "micro" hotel as it lists, and this is no lie. I stayed in a micro bunk with actual bunk beds and I have to say it wasn't as bad as I thought! If you're claustrophobic this may not be for you, since not only the rooms are tiny, but the elevator is basically a mini glass box, which didn't bother me but definitely could see it being a problem for others. The restaurant here was super good, highly recommend the pizza, and the staff was kind! It may be a bit over priced for what it is given the amount of space, but it's in a great location, has trendy decor, and just enough space for a short trip to DC.

Yelp
We had the chance to stay at Hotel Hive during our weekend trip to the capitol. We were considering a several different options but this hotel proved to be the winner due to it's minimalist modern style and convenient location in foggy bottom. We checked in around 11 on a Friday night and were immediately given our room key after providing identification. We had called a few weeks prior when we made the reservation and specifically requested one of their western facing octagonal rooms and we were happy to see that they respected that request when we arrived. The room itself is basic, but in a good way! The entire space is carpeted, including the bathroom. The room itself contained a hanging rack, desk with alarm radio and glass cups. The space also had several outlets throughout the room and the bathroom was stocked with shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and body wash. The bathroom carpet was actually nice because it was specific carpeting made to be absorbent, thin, and fast drying. The staff here was also great because they answered all our questions, made sure to clean our rooms daily, and also were great within their common spaces in terms of service and professionalism. I most definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a convenient hotel close to GWU or the Kennedy Center that's sure to tick off all the boxes.

Yelp
Great if you aren't spending much time in your hotel and just wanna see DC. Would definitely recommend.

Yelp
Loved this place. Convenient place to stay. Small rooms but nice. The staff was amazing! Shout out to Q, Chanta and Brooke - so welcoming, as well as all the others. Very professional, too. On-site pizza place, and rooftop area also. Very friendly, which made the stay special. Thank you!

Yelp
At first I didn't understand what "Micro Hotel" meant and didn't realize that's what I purchased. We did complain at first because there was no shelf like the images displayed under our tv for our gaming console and I didn't see any drawers for the crazy amount of clothing I brought for my first anniversary being married to my husband. We eventually found a storage sliding box under the bed so that solved that. The vanity in the bathroom was my favorite feature of the room. The rooftop bar was my favorite part outside of room. It felt so romantic and had a beautiful walk around view. The location was even more perfect as it was walkable. Parking garage is right across the street but must pay a price which was unlikable but the amazing time we had makes it not a big deal any more.

Yelp
They bill themselves as the first Microsoft hotel. Nothing to brag about. Sparsly furnished. Crappy TV. Lots of 5 star reviews that say it was clean. It was. That's why they got a two. No lobby. Restaurant and bar has limited drink menu and o ly serves @Pizza. No fees. No burger. No chips. No nacjis...nachos... good but good piazza.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at the hotel while visiting from California. I researched and saw the reviews that the hotel is "micro". Therefore I knew the expectations, but when we arrived in our room we could hardly fit our luggage in the room. We had to crawl over each other to get in and out of the bed. Nonetheless it was clean and the decor is modern. It seems as if the hotel was once a dorm and they renovated it. The bar area is nice and cozy, the bartender was amazing! The breakfast is not all that good, as they cook it through the pizza oven pre-packaged. We checked out early and got a different hotel after becoming claustrophobic in the room, but try it if you're alone‍

Yelp
Great SHORT stay spot. Walking distance Lincoln Monument. An overall chill environment Here's what I noticed. On several occasions (including in the attached &pizza) the people of color seemed to have the more laborsome jobs while the white and asian staff primarily worked the front desk. Coincidence? Also, this hotel allows dogs. I am not a fan of this choice and here's why. While we were seated in the lounge one morning, a man who seemed to be of caucasian decent walked off the elevator and allowed his golden retriever to run loose. The dog came running into the lounge while we were eating and jumped into my partner's lap. NOT COOL. The man did not acknowledge us NOR did he apologize for his dog's over-excited behavior. He literally said nothing. And due to the inherent culture of the hotel (young-euro/white-pet friendly), the staff thought it was funny and cute. Herein lies the problem with many dog owners and businesses that allow dogs (specifically in the case of hotels and restaurants). The owner of the dog may not care or understand that everyone is NOT ok with dogs -especially a loose dog. Let me say, I am not afraid of dogs but what if I was someone who was petrified of dogs because of a childhood trauma? For the record I am allergic to dogs and there are A LOT of other people who are allergic to dogs. Restaurants, hotels, even banks today seem to be more accommodating of dogs and less concerned about the overall feeling of safety and hygiene of their facilities for EVERY patron. Now, if a hotel is going to allow dogs it needs to enforce leashes and prohibit dogs in areas where food is eaten or prepared. After all, there are still people like me who believe dogs should not be allowed in the kitchen or near the food we eat. You can do whatever you want in your own home/room but in common/public areas SHOW RESPECT. CONTROL YOUR DOG. It would have pleased me to see staff immediately speak up! Inform the owner saying something like this "Sir while we do allow dogs we ask that you keep you dog on a leash at all times (and close to you) and that you keep him or her away from areas where food is prepared or eaten." But again due to the culture of the hotel, the young staff seemed to lack the wisdom and sensitivity to accommodate what is essentially a cultural difference. Cultural differences are commonplace in Washington DC and this perspective of mine, should be understood even if it's not appreciated. I know this was a critical review but I do want to stress that overall I had a good experience and I would go again and I would recommend. I just hope to see more of the work evenly spread out among the staff and stricter enforcement around pets.

Yelp
I stayed a couple of nights at Hotel Hive while in town for a work event. The website does a great job of explaining their micro-hotel concept so you know exactly what you are getting. While the rooms are a bit smaller than your average hotel the minimal design makes it feel comfortable and light. Throughout the entire stay the staff were wonderful, friendly, and accommodating. You'll definitely enjoy the personal touch that comes with this hotel compared to a big chain. The rooftop bar is wonderful and includes a view of the lincoln memorial. Great drinks and atmosphere. If you need a meal there is an &pizza location right in the hotel with great food. Will definitely stay again when I'm in the area.

Yelp
Love this place. I've stayed here at least five times and am already booked for my next stay! Price point is awesome considering the quality of service. Staff are great, rooms are super clean and polished. Love the bar and the pizza restaurant. My only criticism is the pet policy. I love pets but it is kinda annoying when someone has a dog barking across the hall.

Jasmine T.

Yelp
So happy I stayed here! I was hoping for something less expensive for the area, and clean and comfortable, and I got that and more. It's small but very cute and clean. The people at the front desk are amazing and Brooke was super sweet and helpful with any questions I had. Definitely staying here next time I'm in DC! My one recommendation to Hive would be thicker blankets during the winter (not like it's not easy to turn up the heat in the room, just a preference I think a lot of people have for hotels)

Matt S.

Yelp
coolest micro hotel we have ever stayed at. staff was absolutely amazing , made us feel like we were home. Brook was at front desk and went above and behind to make sure our stay was amazing. Would highly recommend Hotel Hive to anyone going into the DC area. 5 stars for sure, deserves 10 but 5 is the most you can do. Great food downstairs as well.

Yelp
Okay, so I did a spontaneous staycation at Hotel Hive. The rooms are what you would expect from a micro hotel. Everything was clean, it was decorated very nicely, very cute. Loved it. It's connected to &pizza which is a plus. The thing that I loved the most was the customer service. From the time I checked in to the time I checked out, the staff was friendly and welcoming. I was even called after about 30 minutes after check in to make sure everything was good. Ben (I really hope I'm remembering his name correctly) was suuuuper hospitable. Definitely recommend.

Awesome place near the Mall. Splurge for the top floor king room if you can. It isn't "micro". The place has great staff...mostly. Really solid pizzeria in the building. Good selection of local beers. Quiet at night but close to everything. You can thank me later.

Yelp
Came here with a group for happy hour. The rooftop is a really nice addition to the DC skyline. There is a small elevator, I recommend taking it because those 5 flights of stairs are no joke lol. The roof has a little cover over it and is totally fine during light rain. I really like the atmosphere, it isn't too quiet and you have a good amount of DC locals to mix with the hotel guests. The frose is super sweet and you really can't taste the alcohol, same with the frozen margaritas. The cups are stainless steel so they can get super cold to hold in your hand. Make sure to grab a napkin or risk losing circulation. I had a saag paneer kolache which was a good snack to go with the frose. The couches were nice and the greenery made for some really trendy looking pictures.

Yelp
This has been my favorite hotel experience of all time. Let's start with how cute, clean, and nice the hotel itself is. The rooms are small but not cramped, this is a perfect mix between a boutique hotel and a modern hostel. From the minute I arrived I felt welcomed and at home. The staff is so, so friendly and attentive. Special shout out to David from check-in (whose attentiveness and commitment to making this stay a great one) blew my mind with his kind, genuine demeanor and his focus on the guest experience. Also - there's an &pizza attached. Amazing pizza at your doorstep. I plan to stay here from here on out!

Yelp
for the convenience of the location in one of the busiest parts of DC, and the quality of the hotel and its facilities, this place is a gem. i was in DC for two days to get a visa. this place was one of the cheapest and convenient options available near where i needed to go. for a night, it was ~$200. expensive, but a very convenient location a short walk from the metro, and close to GWU. one thing that stood out is that the second we walked in, sometime in the middle of the day, we were immediately greeted by literally one of the kindest hotel workers i've ever met. shoutout to Q. like, i was jet lagged to high heaven, and she was beaming and super peppy and talking to other guests, and somehow she remembered my name after one interaction when i checked in??? i looked all tired and raggedy and barely had the energy to say anything or be extra polite, but fun fact: i am a southern gal, and the hospitality she showed to me made my day. i'm from TN, and DC was a huge adjustment from what i'm used to, but her hospitality and attitude made me feel a bit more welcome in all the chaos from the metro. i think i must've looked particularly messed up, because she gave me a voucher for a free pizza and a handwritten note wishing me and my dad luck on our DC adventures. literally the sweetest thing. and that pizza was damn good, too. i barely talked to her cuz she was pretty busy each time i saw her, but: thank you Q for being a sweet and awesome human being. very cool. the concept of a micro hotel isn't for everyone, but i really liked it. my room was super clean, the shampoo and conditioner was luxurious and really high quality, and it had everything i needed. they have super nice facilities, including a bar, the hotel associated pizza place next door, and a rooftop bar. in terms of vibes: this place wasn't exactly my cup of tea, but i generally have hard times adjusting to the northeast as a southern gal. everyone seems so busy and professional. the hotel seems to attract the cosmopolitan hipster types. a lot of people in sleek dresses and slacks and button-ups sipping on drinks on the roof. i felt like a drowned rat compared to all of them, but it was fun for people watching, certainly! the workers here are helpful, professional, and super clear. would definitely recommend this place if you need a convenient and relatively affordable place to stay, and if you like practical hotel rooms. not for everyone, but i liked it!

Yelp
Huge Disappointment. Stayed Thur 5/12 - Sun 5/15. Reception area tiny and had to wait outside since there was no room in the lobby to wait and we were told we could not wait in the bar area. The bar is the worst - no brand names at all from Makers Mark down to Coke products. One person working the bar that was nearly full. The room was small, bathroom tiny, no iron, no coffee maker and not even a closet - instead a hook on the wall with 2 hangers and a box to put things in and roll under the bed. I hung my tux on the shower wall. The only food at all at the restaurant (which is not close at all to any other restaurants) is pizza. We order on Sunday and we were told only 2 types (out of the many on the menu) were available- plain and white and absolutely no toppings. They were bland and room temperature. There is NOTHING boutique about this hotel.

Yelp
Solid 4 stars! I needed a staycation and Hotel Hive was a great choice. Located about 20 minutes walk from the National Mall, this boutique hotel offers tiny no-frills but affordable rooms in DC. I booked a loft king room on the morning of my stay, but later received a voicemail from the hotel staff advising me that there was a glitch in the system and the loft king was no longer available; hence, I would be given a different king room and would have my rate lowered as necessary (loft king had the highest price). When I called back to confirm the voicemail, I spoke to Ruby or Rudy (not sure) and she was absolutely fantastic - pleasantly friendly and super helpful. In talking with her, I was able to switch to a loft queen and boy was I happy I did. The room I got was in the hexagon-shaped side of the hotel and thus my room had 6 big windows - loved it! For those who may have a problem with the neighboring buildings being able to see them, the room is well equipped with thick blinds. The exposed brick wall and high ceilings with with rustic beams were just as appreciated as they were only adding to the charm of the room. The room doesn't have much space for someone with lots of luggage, but it worked perfectly for me as I was staying there one night only. I did not eat at the hotel's Hive bar, so I cannot speak to it but there were constantly people there so it must be at least relatively good. Why 4 starts and not 5? Upon arrival, the room was somewhat dirty and someone hadn't flushed the toilet. Also the rooftop was open in the evening when it was storming and pouring, but closed in the morning when the rain had stopped. I purposely woke up to watch the sunrise and when asked the front desk how come it wasn't open, the employee was very short with me. Oh well, I would definitely recommend this hotel despite minor hiccups.

Yelp
My bf and I were doing a quick trip to DC and decided to stay at Hotel Hive for the night. Check in was quick and easy, they even let us check in early which was nice since we only had one day to sight see. We stayed in a king size room that was on the bottom level, so below the check in area. It was considered a room with the potential to hear noise into the late hours, but we didn't really notice anything, other than some car noises outside. Our room was bigger than expected. Since we were on the lower level, our windows were sidewalk height, so we didn't get a view of anything. The bed and main area was clean. The bathroom was generally fine as well, but I think the flooring they picked was really disgusting and you could easily see stains and wear & tear which put me off quite a bit. We also had some crayon drawings from some kid on the pillar in our bathroom, so clearly they didn't clean it too well as that seemed to have been forgotten. But it wasn't dirty, just could have been nicer. The bed wasn't very comfortable and the pillows were absolutely awful, so squishy, no support at all. We had to search for our tv remote which was under the bed for whatever reason. The hotel has a great location, safe area and within walking distance to the Lincoln Memorial. The hotel itself is nice and hip. We definitely appreciated that they had a pizza place inside, as we were exhausted after a day of sight seeing and it was super convenient being able to just walk to the lobby and grab dinner. Overall it was a cute, trendy, convenient and affordable place for a quick nights stay. It gives you everything you need.

Yelp
This micro hotel is THE BEST I have ever stayed. Starting with Brooke at the front desk that will give you service beyond excellence. Kiera who checked to see if everything was perfect and it was. I love the mirror that said The object in the mirror is Sexier than it appear. Love it! My room was a 5 star accommodation. The shower is one everyone need in their home. The room is clean with all amenities and very quiet. I absolutely love the safety Hotel Hive provide. Very well lit. No entry into elevators without your key card and this includes late entry into the hotel. This is my second stay and more to come. If I could live here I would be the happiest. The bed is so very comfortable. You must experience The Hive for yourself and do not BEE afraid..smiles

Yelp
I literally picked this place on a whim and it was such a good guess. I work in a travel agency and will definitely keep this place in my mind. This hotel was so clean and I have never seen a staff so warm and inviting and friendly. Our room was not ready when my friend and I arrived but we arrived several hours earlier than check-in time and immediately offered a different room which was still a great room. We got settled in the room and left an hour or two later to explore and as soon as we came out of our room, they said "How is the room?" AND said my name so they remembered who I was - which is so important. They have a nice dining area on the right side with a waiter and the other side was take out. I, unfortunately, did not try the take-out pizza but I did have the breakfast. They have something called Kolachi's (sorry for the spelling) and they were delicious! I had two of them. Day 1 I had one with Kale and Mushrooms and Day 2 I had the strawberries and cream cheese - which was also delicious! And the waiter remembered I ordered the Kolachi and Orange Juice the day before so immediately asked me if I wanted the same thing... AGAIN, excellent customer service. Finally when we were leaving, the check out is 11am but we were not leaving Washington until 4pm so they tagged our luggage and kept it downstairs until we were ready to leave and also cleaned the room and kept my friends pajamas safe because she left them in the room by accident and remembered we were coming back. I will DEFINITELY be back here and recommend this hotel.

Yelp
Room: We arrived on early on Valentine's Day (2/18/19) before we were able to check into our room. The staff at the front desk was able to hold our luggage for us and give us recommendations for how to get around town. We reserved a lofted queen room and were lucky enough to get the best room in the hotel! It is a hexagonal room, located on the top floor, overlooking George Washington University and the Lincoln Memorial. The bed was surrounded by 6 beautiful windows, and I could see the Lincoln Memorial from bed!! We got a mini cooler for the room which was the perfect size for our stay. The hotel is located a short walk from the metro station that can take you around the entire city! Staff: The staff was amazing. Sakina befriended us the second we walked into the hotel. She helped us understand the Metro system and how to get around DC, and provided us with restaurant/bar recommendations. We looked forward to seeing her whenever we returned to the hotel, as she provided friendly conversation. was very easy to talk to, like a friend we have known for years. Hive Bar/&pizza: The hotel provided 2 free drink coupons! The drinks were great, the bar was a popular place for the hotel guests, as well as the locals. The pizza was great. We ran into an issue when our room was incorrectly charged for purchases made at the bar. This was promptly resolved after speaking to the hotel and bar managers. Overall, our stay at Hotel Hive is by far one of the best hotel experiences we have ever had. We look forward to staying here again and hopefully experience the rooftop bar!

Yelp
Stayed two nights. I had requested a king bed and was told they weren't available, so the first night had a queen bed which I believe may have been a futon. It was extremely hard and uncomfortable. The blinds didn't cover the entire window, so the lamp post outside my window shown all night. It was like daytime all though the night. Huge bathroom. The next morning I approached the front desk with my concerns. I also noticed they did, indeed, have king rooms available. Don't know how that error occurred, yet they did make it right by moving us into a king-size bed room. This room was lovely. Very comfortable bed. Roomy. Smaller bathroom, yet that was okay. The lotion in the showers in both bathrooms was gritty, so I was unable to use any. Our bill was reduced by $25 for the mishap, and we were offered a couple coffees. Very friendly staff. Nice rooftop bar. Very clean rooms. Pets are welcome. Parking was inexpensive ($16.50/night), yet then was pleasantly surprised by the garage sending me an email for the second night free parking! Price was very fair for Washington, DC. Excellent location being in between all the monuments and Georgetown University.

Yelp
I absolutely LOVED my stay at Hotel Hive. While my stay there was for only a few days, I enjoyed every minute of it. The hotel staff were delightful. David, the manager was funny, super chill and down to Earth, sociable and extremely accommodating. The front desk staff, Ben & Jon were oh so kind and great conversationalists! (*kuddos to Jon for his insight into Jordan 1's!!!). Thanks Ben for the heads up on what's permissible and what's not! The night staff, Natasha, was a pleasant relief during the evening. Providing me with libations late night (almost every night) was a total life saver! Lastly, thanks to the cool guy at the bar, Luis! Thanks for the taste test before I made my decision! That Brut was delicious and it surely hit the spot! All staff members made me feel warm and safe and I felt as if they ACTUALLY appreciated me patronizing their business; I really felt like I was a "quality guest." I couldn't have been more pleased with the setup of Hotel Hive. I appreciated that I only had to go downstairs to get a yummy pizza from &Pizza, which was delicious, nutritious, and fairly priced. The Moscow Mule wasn't bad either, but rather a refreshing surprise to my taste buds! The restaurant and downstairs bar were closed due to COVID, but the rooftop bar and pizza shop were open so I had convenient alternatives. I immediately fell in love with the aesthetics upon arrival. It's cute, quaint, and located on a quiet corner across the street from and in the general surrounding area of the GWU campus. The lobby is open and seems lively and inviting, with the pizza shop and bar/restaurant welcoming you as soon as you enter. I also appreciated the front desk being located just as you pass the threshold, so you're immediately greeted with a warm and cheery face and smile as soon as you arrive!!! I absolutely adored my room. It had large windows that boasted a GREAT view overlooking the central neighborhood and blue skies. I really got a kick out of the quotes strategically placed on the walls and mirrors; quirky and fun! The bed was so comfortable I didn't leave the room my entire stay, lol!!! It was so easy to just kick back in the bed with my feet up, head comfortably rested upon the cushiony pillows, window curtains open, and air conditioner blasting while watching the wall-mounted tv. I liked the openness of the room and that it wasn't heavily cluttered with overly excessive furniture; only the essentials. Lastly, to the bathroom which was my favorite part, lol (well the shower, actually!) I sincerely appreciated the shower as I felt like I entered a spa every time. I loved the rotation of the water as it hit my achy back. That especially helped to really seal the deal, LOL! I genuinely and truly enjoyed my stay @Hotel Hive and would totally recommend it to anyone who's not too fussy but rather wants a nice and quiet getaway with great staff! Oh and they're completely COVID-compliant!!!!!

Yelp
Wonderful location! Amazing staff and very indie, young atmosphere! Great rooftop place to hangout for happy hour or the bar downstairs that serves delicious pizzas, pastas, drinks. Didn't even want to check out in the morning! Definitely coming back to Hive hotel next time I am in DC!

Yelp
Where to start. This hotel is amazing. The staff is over the top friendly and helpful. The rooms are teeny but in a 'omg that's so cute' rather than a 'how annoying where do I put my toothbrush' the decor is amazing. Pay attention when in the elevator bc the paintings on the wall change. The pizza next door is next level. I'll warn you though if you're a condiment lover like me you will be charged accordingly (2 ranch equally 2.50) top notch micro hotel. Trying out the rooftop bar tonight. Will update accordingly on how their mocktails are. Ten out of ten. Update We went to the coffee shop 'hive bar' the morning we checked out. Jill was our barista. She was amazing. Kind. And helpful. The prices were a steal for dc and tasted great too!

Yelp
Excellent enjoyed the place. Don't forget micro hotel. That is a good thing. You will feel a bit European. Very nice people. Pizza made on premise. Bar doubles for breakfast show me the problem.

Yelp
We loved our stay so much! The staff made us feel so welcomed. They were so inviting for our little dog Abbie. They made us feel like family. We stayed 6 days. The staff are happy to help their guest and all consistently tried to go above and beyond helping or asking if we needed anything. The pizza was great. We sometimes called it dinner or had as snack while getting ready for something else later. We also loved the rooftop! I am 4'10 and hubby 6'4 and doggy 12 lbs and we fit just fine, and snug in our corner queen room. I slept great! Agree the shower soap and lotion nice as well. I have to use specific shampoo so didn't try their but I'm sure it is great as well. The hotel location worked well. It was easy to get to all the site seeing, running, and food that we wanted to enjoy. WE DO LOOK FORWARD TO ANOTHER VISIT in the future! Thanks again, Brandy, Eddie, & Abbie Gallagher

Yelp
First time staying in a micro hotel and I have got to say I am very satisfied with Hotel Hive! My bf and I were visiting DC for the weekend and were attracted to their unique interior design. We had booked it about a month early and specifically requested a room on the corner of the building. It was shaped in a hexagon and the bed was in the center with windows in every direction! The best part is that the shades are controlled by the push of a button! It was a very cute and cozy setup. The bathroom was also very practical - the body wash/shampoo/conditioner/lotion was all tacked into the shower in a big refillable bottle. What they lacked in size, they made up for in atmosphere. Upon entering, they have a lot of unique bee related paintings on the wall which I thought were pretty cool. They also have a bar and pizza shop downstairs if you wanted to grab a quick bite or drink. It's also conveniently located near a lot of landmarks (or a scooter ride away). I would definitely consider coming back here if I am visiting again.

Yelp
The hotel is fine, small but clean, but I don't know what's going on with the staff. I asked for an early check in about a month in advance and they somehow couldn't get me in until AFTER the regular check in time of 3pm (note that check out is 11AM so they had 4 hours to get my room ready and must have saved it for last). They did offer to hold my stuff for me, but I later found out that they kept it in a stairwell because it was "too big," and I just hope that nothing was stolen as it was left in this public space unattended for an hour. I had to leave my prior living arrangement at 2, so I waited on a bench in the city with all of my other belongings for that hour in the heat. The week I stayed was fine, but I got a text at noon the day before my check out to inform me that the entire street in front of the hotel would be blocked off for construction. I was in intern housing from June until the beginning of August, so I chose this place to save money for the last week of my internship. If I had known that check in and check out were both going to be such nightmares I would have never gone with this option, no matter how much money it saved me. I'm coming from living in a literal dorm so my expectations for hospitality were super low-- all I wanted was a smooth check in and check out and that's it. It's like they tried to make things difficult. I've never left a yelp review for a hotel but I've never had an experience like this anywhere else, super unprofessional. If you aren't flexible with check in and check out times do not stay here because they can't keep a schedule or communicate.
