Yelp
THIS HOTEL IS RACIST, UNPROFESSIONAL, SNEAKY, AND I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE FOR ANY WOMEN OR PEOPLE OF COLOR.
I stayed as a guest with a friend of mine, Sarah, at the Hotel La Jolla Curio Collection from June 25th until June 28th, 2020. When we arrived at the hotel, we had called prior to arrival for an early check-in. We had no issues. The front desk assistant provided us with our hotel keys, and Sarah swiped her card for the room. We were NEVER PROVIDED with the amenities of the hotel (i.e. indoor pool, local forms of transportation, nearby excursions, ice machine, etc.) The front desk assistant WAS NOT EVEN WEARING A FACE MASK OR FACE COVERING.
Nonetheless, we checked into our room with no problems.
The following day, June 26th was my birthday. We were quite noisy in the morning, and a following member of the Hotel came outside to ask us to lower our voices. We did. Then we received a call from the front desk manager, Kace (KC, Casey or however it is spelled) and she notified us that we would be receiving TWO noise complaints as well as a SMOKING FEE. We were smoking cigarettes on the balcony, but neither Sarah or myself were aware of the non-smoking policy. Nowhere in the hotel room (in its entirety), the elevator, the fire escape of the stairs is there any signs or notification of the hotel's non-smoking facility or policy.
When we called the front desk and asked for the General Manager, Mike Mueller of the La Jolla Curio Collection - he could not answer any of our questions as to why we were not notified of the prior complaints with a warning or the policy of the non-smoking fee. I asked Kace, the front desk manager for her last name as well as the corporate office number she refused us. She not only WITHHELD COMPANY/CORPORATE INFORMATION, but also her personal information so that we would not be able to file a proper complaint.
Sarah received a $550.00 charge on her debit card after we went out of our way to file a formal complaint with the corporate headquarters of Hilton. It was a means of retaliation and disrupted the entire weekend. She was charged $500 already for the room.
When Sarah checked out of the hotel, she did receive the $300 back for the incidentals, but was still charged the $250.00 fee for smoking.
Frankly, not only was this absurd, but it was also charged without proper accountability. We expressed that we have never stayed in ANY hotel without notice of hotel policies, as well as notification of how much charges would be.
We were never notified that the smoking fee was $250.00.
The managers were beyond rude, uncooperative, and hostile.
I have attached photographs of the hotel room without any signs or notifications of the non-smoking policies and video clips of a WHITE woman smoking on her balcony. We were notified that this formal complaint would take up to 72 business hours to be handled. An entire week has gone by without someone reaching out to Sarah in regards to this matter. She was also informed that this complaint had reached the President's Office and therefore no one could touch the matter.
When we received a response from the corporate office, they said nothing could be done and no remorse for their employees actions.
Sarah INDEED RECEIVED HER MONEY BACK FROM HER BANK.
We will be filing a CLASS A lawsuit against this establishment in regards to:
