Would recommend this place to anyone. Food service and place fabulous. We had the tasting menu with wine. Fantastic is the only way to describe. Will definitely be back. Amazing 5 stars alround. Special touch with receiving the personal signed birthday card from all at yhe house of tides. Made my day.

I came with my parents for my birthday and firstly the staff were super accommodating to my mums food preferences which are admittedly quite confusing. They were also super attentive and friendly. Our cocktails were lovely and the food was incredible with generous portions. They packed up all our leftovers very neatly in a bag, didn’t rush us and made our time special. I especially thought the chicken dish was delicious and my mum loved the mandolin dessert. Obviously on the pricey side but worth a visit for a treat. The pictures don’t show all the courses, just a few.

Fancy food rather than fine dining. So incredibly disappointing. Off to a very bad start when 3 seperate staff approached our table to ask if we'd like to order. Another 2 came and asked if we wanted drinks! We ordered a drink and waited - and waited - finally the waitress appeared and went to the wrong table. Then wandered around and went back to the bar. We waited! Eventually with drinks the food came. We had the tasting menu - only it wasn't a tasting menu - a roast chicken dinner or steak (at an extra £50). The first few courses were tasty but nothing extraordinary. Then the Tatar and confit egg - well - a hard boiled egg! It was replaced with apologies but for this kind of money it just wasn't good enough. The evening was saved by Conor - the Irish waiter. Knowledgeable, funny and very good at his job. We were given a discount and a free drink. I would say we had a good time in spite of the place rather than because of it. Could not recommend it on any level. Apparently it had a Michelin Star - once... It's definitely slipped since then.

Fantastic meal, it was quiet (Friday afternoon) but the food and staff were excellent. Good selection of whiskeys and a couple of cracking beers. Recommended.

Very expensive but nothing exceptional about the food. The main course of Sea Bream was very salty and the waitress said she would let the kitchen know!!! It was a special occasion as it was a wedding anniversary which we stated at the time of booking however no attempt was made to make us feel special.

Absolutely incredible service and atmosphere from one of Newcastle's few Michelin starred restaurants (one of the others being its sister- Solstice, both by Kenny Atkinson). The staff were attentive and passionate about the food, restaurant and city. The building itself is full of olden charm and allows the vibe to be high-end but unpretentious. The drinks/wine list was long and plentiful with the option to add a pairing to your tasting menu. The menu itself was fresh, delicious, seasonal and without fault. We opted for the extra course of langoustine and scallop agnlotti which was incredible. My other favourite dish would be the ceviche which was also plated beautifully. On the whole, exceptional and I'll most definitely be heading back or to Solstice when I'm next back in the motherland.

Last went a couple of years ago when I would have rated it 5 stars.. this time it's a 4. Reasons, although it cost less than our previous visit, we felt the quality of the food had been reduced to cater for that. Every mouthful on our previous visit was met with smiles due to the flavours of each dish from the tasting menu.. this time this didn't happen. Although good, starters definitely didn't have the wow factor at all, normal in taste just that they were fine, a 3 out of 5. Main courses were good though, still no wow feeling like previous visit, but still lovely (4 out of 5) and desserts were similar very good but not outstanding, 4 out of 5. Add in a £60 bottle of wine and a service charge, it makes it a pricey day for a good meal.. not a memorable meal which we had 2 years ago, which cost more but made us want to come back at a future date.. unfortunately our recent experience disappointed us slightly and we will have to go somewhere else to try and get that feeling again.

We went for a lunch sample menu on a Saturday. The food was perfectly balanced and not one course disappointed. The portions initially may look small, but with the number of courses and the flavours that come through, it is satisfying and scrumptious, and we did not leave hungry, like some people have mentioned. I feel people making those comments don't actually appreciate beautifully crafted and balanced meals. I also chose the additional cheese board, which I expected to be quite small, but it wasn't. There was a very good amount of cheese for the extra cost. I would definitely opt for it again. We opted for the wine pairing to go with the courses, and they were perfectly matched to either complement or cut through the flavours. The staff member explaining the wine was very professional and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was great, in the gorgeous wonky listed building. It has been decorated and celebrated well. Love the exposed brick and the large fireplace. The staff were knowledgeable, kind, and very attentive. We will definitely be going back for an evening meal.

House of Tides is the best restaurant in Newcastle that I've been to, and frankly it's hard to imagine one better. It's the sort of place you'd be more likely to find in London, and we're lucky that it's here. My fiancé took me here for dinner on the night that he proposed to me (!!) We had a reservation for a Wednesday night at 8. Definitely reserve, even on a weekday - it wasn't totally full up but at a place like this, you can't risk walking in! When we arrived they seated us downstairs in a casual seating area, where we were told we'd have a drink and decide which menu we wanted. We ordered a bottle of wine (many selections quite affordable - surprisingly), and opted out of the wine pairings with dinner as we'd already had loads to drink. We got the 7 course tasting menu (£65 per person - wine pairings would've been an additional £40). As we sipped our wine, we were brought our first appetizer - beautiful oysters served on a bed of seashells, and some chicken liver parfait. And a non-edible bowl filled with something that looked like seaweed, they poured broth over it to create this smoky scent and white smoke actually poured down over the table, for atmosphere. You know you're at a fancy place where they bring you something inedible as part of your course. After this, they took our wine upstairs where the main seating area is. The building is old and rustic, with exposed brick walls from the 16th century (so we were told). It has that cozy feel you get in an old building, smaller rooms and lower ceilings, etc. We then enjoyed the remainder of our courses over the next two hours or so - no sense telling you what we liked best as the menu no doubt changes seasonally and often. Almost nothing on the a la carte menu that they show on their website was in our tasting menu, it was a mostly totally unique menu. They cater to allergies and preferences even - I told them I didn't care for mushrooms and they left them off of 3 different dishes, each time I could hear the server saying "oh that's the one with no mushrooms." Nice touch! Service was very attentive and they explained each dish. The dishes were beautifully presented, like artwork on the plate. Some of the plates/bowls were quite fun - the soup was served in a tall, narrow bowl that was almost like a stone glass. Our favorite course was the onion-chorizo soup with house made bread. How ordinary does that sound? Yet it was STUNNING. I'd love to recreate that soup!! The fish courses were excellent, the quail was truly delectable, and I can still taste this sumptuous piece of foie gras when I close my eyes and remember. Everything tasted wonderful, nothing was overlooked at all. We skipped the cheese course (£8 per person if you go for it) as we really did get full, though all the courses were small. I think that quail is on the a la carte menu, by the by, as a first course. Go for it. Dessert was a very rich chocolate cake of some sort, my least favorite as I'm not a dessert person and it was so rich, but my fiancé loved it. We had another glass of wine at the end - they have some very unique wines by the glass including some from Uruguay and Lebanon. Yes, it's pricey - I think the bill came out to around £170 or so, for two. But you won't have another meal like it in town, and since it was the most special of all special occasions, it was worth it. Well, ask my fiancé if it was worth it, he treated me! It was a night I won't soon forget and you should absolutely spend a birthday, anniversary, or engagement dinner here!
