Hudson House - Review - Redondo Beach - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"There’s always a crowd of locals hanging out at the bar and eating upscale pub food at Hudson House. The best thing here is the lamb bolognese that comes with harissa yogurt and roasted yams instead of pasta that will make you forget all about how much you love gluten. They often bring everything out all at once, so you might want to order in stages. photo credit: Hudson House" - Brett Keating

West Hollywood’s Hudson House Restaurant Faces Trademark Lawsuit Over Name - Eater LA

"Texas-based Hudson House — part of the larger Vandelay Hospitality Group — is already in hot water despite only being open a couple of weeks, landing a trademark infringement lawsuit from a Redondo Beach restaurant that has used the same name for almost 15 years. LA area’s first Hudson House, opened by Top Chef alum Brooke Williamson and partner Nick Roberts in 2008, has long been a waypoint for families and Redondo Beach locals looking to score some classic American comfort food from brunch through dinner (Williamson left the restaurant in 2020)." - Farley Elliott

12-Year-Old South Bay Hudson House Returns, Pretzel Bun Burger and All - Eater LA

"Hudson House in Redondo Beach has formally reopened under new ownership by Kate Failor and Jessica Ibarra. After 12 years under Top Chef’s Brooke Williamson, the restaurant now features a menu reminiscent of its past, including gastropub staples and a notable pretzel bun burger with Jarlsberg cheese. The reopening includes on-site dining with dinner service nightly and brunch on weekends." - Farley Elliott

Went to Huddy’s for Taco Tuesday and left happy. The $1 tacos were juicy and flavorful—none of those dry, disappointing ones you usually get on deal nights. The kale salad was a surprise win, topped with what looked like fried couscous for a nice crunch. Spicy wings were messy in a good way, and the giblet fries were weird but tasty. Only downside: we were seated right next to the entrance by staff, which meant a constant flow of people walking past and the door swinging open. Kinda killed the vibe. Still, food was solid and I'd go again—just not in that seat.

Google
The new Huddy's is great fresh update on Hudson House. They kept the food soooo good which has always been a hallmark.. no mediocre frozen bar food.. they put out some of the best casual sammies, tacos and burgers you will find in the area, and they have some great drinks and desserts to round out the experience. I had the opportunity to meet the owner and she was awesome. I had a mocktail and the tacos.. both hit the spot. The bartender Justin was also great. This is one of those spots that really defines a community and stand out from the crowd.. the vibe is welcoming and fun. Get down here.. for a drink or a bite or preferably both you will be a happy camper.

Google
Came in on a Friday night for drinks and dinner. Atmosphere is great, patio is fun, drinks were good and servers were lovely. Unfortunately food is an afterthought at this bar. The symbol on google for this place is the drink symbol, not the restaurant symbol and that should give it away. Food was bland, tater tots were undercooked and the fish tacos were small and lacking anything to really talk about. Real shame as the other reviews must be just for the drinks and the atmosphere, which I would say was great. Spend nearly $100 for 2 people and was disappointed. Go for the drinks and perhaps eat somewhere else.

Google
Very pleasant neighborhood restaurant. Don't let the front fool you. You might go right by it. The brunch was one of the best I have had in this area. Prices are very reasonable. The brunch bottle special is fantastic. I had the Avocado Toast, and the ladies had the Eggs Benedict. Both meals came out on time and hot. Everything is fresh. The jazz duo was a nice touch. About a dozen or so picnic tables in back, makes for a nice, outdoor setting with a casual ambiance. Highly recommend for Sunday brunch. Will come back.

Google
Wonderful food. I’m very happy with the service and food. They recommended we come back with a reservation for taco Tuesday about five nights ahead.

Google
Nice outdoor seating. Drinks were OK. Food is a pass. Had fish tacos. Good seasoning but very small portion. In the land of fish tacos, they dont stand up.

Google
They have completely updated the appearance and menu of the restaurant as of 11/7/18. I have only tried two of the food items so far, but my favorite of the two was the Chile honey chicken nuggets. They are crunchy, sticky, sweet, tangy, and ever-so-slightly spicy. The black shrimp rice was very tasty and had a nice crunch added, but I felt like I wanted something else with it, a vegetable or more protein? I can't really put my finger on it. Will update as appropriate.

My girlfriend and I just went. Great food and atmosphere! Service was fantastic too. We also really enjoyed the cocktails there. It’s a unique place with its own unique vibe.

Yelp
Great food! Great Service! Love the artwork Love the vive (live music was out on the patio)

Yelp
Decent Taco TUE option for the family as we rotate easy dinners outside of home, around local restaurants. Tacos are really tiny. My boys can easily each put down the $1 tacos in double digits so the price and quantity isn't really a deal. We go for the change of pace. Try some pork, some chicken. People watch. Sit inside, sit outside. As another reviewer said, nothing outstanding. But good enough for us to work into the rotation. RSVP helps speed up getting seated. OpenTable

Yelp
Decent taco Tuesday, $1 tacos with chicken or pork coupled with a free drink specials. Tacos are small normal taco soft shells with some meat and a little sauce. Very basic. We keep it in the mix. They won't blow your mind, but they are decent and consistent.

Yelp
Pros: Seasonal decore for Christmas and Halloween, extensive drink menu, possibly the best buffalo cauliflower I've had. The exterior design is also always eye catching and fun when driving down PCH. Cons: Unfortunately my party of 2 received really inattentive service. Throughout our time there we felt forgotten and were confused on who our server was at times because we thought they switched but then the previous waiter would return. To give the benefit of the doubt, it was the middle of the day so it's likely they didn't have much staff. The food was good but the menu when we went today felt more like bar food than a full restaurant. The fish and chips had soggy breading. I'll definitely be coming back to try the taco Tuesday experience or to grab a cocktail with a friend, but would go somewhere else if I'm looking for a full meal.

Yelp
I've sung Hudson House's praises before, but this review is all about their over-the-top holiday vibe that practically wraps you in tinsel the moment you step inside. Forget basic holiday decor--this is full-on festive fabulousness. Twinkling lights, glittering garlands, and ornaments galore create an atmosphere so enchanting you'd swear you just walked into a Christmas rom-com. And the cocktails? Honey, they're just as dazzling. Dani and Justin are behind the bar, mixing, stirring, shaking, and pouring pure holiday perfection. These two are like Santa's elves with a shaker and a flair for making spirits (literally) bright. You must order the Jingle Bell Rock, their gingerbread twist on an old fashioned. Warm, spiced, and sinfully smooth, it's like a cozy fireplace in a glass--naughty enough to keep you sipping but nice enough to keep you coming back. Hudson House isn't just a meal; it's a whole mood. Whether you're popping in for dinner or staying for their holiday cocktails, this is where the magic happens. Cheers to the season--Dani, Justin, and Hudson House will keep you merry and bright. Five festive stars!

Yelp
This review is solely for their $1 taco Tuesday! $1 Taco Tuesday are such a DEAL here at Hudson House! You can choose from either pollo or carnita tacos, or $2 veggies tacos, that all come with salsa on the side and are absolutely delicious. In spite of being $1, the meat is super tender and tasty. They also have $8 select cocktails, making this place the best to get the most bang for your buck! I highly recommend making a reservation since this place can get PACKED. Make sure to stop by if you're in the Southbay LA area!

Yelp
The prickly pear mule was refreshing! My friend had the OG and said it was good. The happy hour pricing is good but I wouldn't want to pay normal pricing for these drinks. The aesthetic of this bar is kind of cool but not as cool as I expected based on the outside. The patio seating was shaded but simple. Service was good. Maybe this place is better at night but it just didn't stand out as much as I would have liked.

Yelp
Came in on a Thursday night and was seated quickly. They have tables indoors and a turf patio with benches outdoors. The corn ribs were delicious. Fish n chips are solid but the fries were a bit cold. Hudson street dog was tasty but tiny. Great tater tots. Maybe it was an off night for the kitchen. I can see the potential but it was not amazing. Staff was great.

Yelp

Yelp
Excellent staff, great food, family friendly and plenty of space in the back patio area.

Yelp
Been meaning to come here for years especially since it was Brooke Williamson from Top Chef's place. I was too late for the party since it's under new ownership and I'm guessing a new menu as well? Came in for Taco Tuesday to meet some friends The place is nice but more casual than I imagined. Definitely a fun place for Happy Hour with indoor and back patio seating. The friends downed some drinks while I tried some fritters. It was really delicious! Parking on the street if you can find it. I had to park a ways and walk down PCH. I'd like to come back on a different evening to try different items from their menu.

Yelp
The drinks here are good. Wish they had more options for vegans even if it was like chips and salsa that would be enough for a vegan who is at a bar on a liquid diet but needs something to sustain themselves lol. Unless somehow they do and the days i go in they just happen to not be doing that lol but other than been coming here for like pffff idk since before renovation so it's been a while.
google avatar

Aaleyah P.

Yelp
Good bar eats to choose from. I had the shrimp and lobster roll with crumbs of chips lol (literally) my husband had the veggie burger and fries. The fries were crispy as fuck while the burger was delicious. I also had the house salad and that shit was Divine. The house vinaigrette is soooo good I had to stop the waitress and ask her what kind it was. The drinks were gooooooooodT. I had one OG and a Mellow Yellow (spicy drinks) . My husband had some manly liquor idk lol but the menu was extensive. Would return. Oh yeah they had live music.... For those that like country.
google avatar

Yelp
Came for HH and thought this place was super cute and had some tasty snacks and drinks! The service is great and the restaurant itself was perfect for after work drinks and snacks. The menu looks good and I saw some people ordering dinner there which I will have to return back for. We got some beers and cocktails, I got the sunny daze cocktail which was so fresh and great if you like sweet drinks. We also got some sliders and Serrano cheddar grit fritters. The fritters were amazing! Cubes of grits, but not the dry grainy grits you are imagining. These were moist and almost like fried tofu but way tastier! Would definitely recommend and something new I haven't had.

Yelp
Hudson House looks super cool from the outside and has a cool vibe inside as well. It's pretty casual and you can sit at the bar or table. It has more of a bar vibe so I wasn't expecting the food to be so delicious! I had the Hot Chicken Sandwich and my sister had the Marinated Skirt Steak which comes with truffle fries and broccolini. I was thinking, steak? At a bar? But the steak was the star of the show while the chicken sandwich was also awesome, super juicy and spicy. We just happened to be there for the Drag Queen Bingo, which happens every Wednesday night at 8pm. It's free to play and it was such a vibe that we ended up staying for the whole thing. I really loved it here.

Yelp
The service was great, our server Megan was wonderful, and made sure our courses and drinks came together. The ambiance was so maximalist, I love it! Think beachy/Venice vibes. this might be my favorite Taco TUESDAY spot in town! We got: tacos ($1-2) they have three options (pollo, carnitas and veggies) - we tried all three and loved every one of them. signature drinks ($8) - we ordered OGs and they were yummm, so was the Paloma The Serrano cheddar and grit fritters ($9) - never had these before, they were perfectly crisp and cheesy, the sauce it came with complimented the fritters perfectly. The chocolate chip skillet cookie ($8.50) - TO DIE FOR! so goood, it comes with whipped cream, ice cream and a little skillet baked cookie. We absolutely loved it!

Yelp
This is a review on Service since we didn't stay. I made a reservation about a month ago for three for bingo night. We were the very first people to arrive. There were two people at the bar. The person in charge said they were overbooked for the night and because we were three people he was sitting us at a tiny round table, right off the front door and the furthest away from the bingo person. So we were going to be blessed with the door opening and closing all night long right by us and we practically begged to have another table and he said no those are only reserved for four. I think it was very poor management and a poor decision by that person. We got up and left. And yes, he offered us communal dining on stools that don't have backs and for us with back issues that was not an option which I told him I will never go to this place again they lost a potential customer.
google avatar

Yelp
Cool neighborhood spot for cocktails and call bites. The OG is one of my favorite margs in LA. It pairs sweet and refreshing watermelon juice with sneakily spicy Serrano pepper, definitely worth trying if you're into margaritas. The food menu has dinner-ish options, but I think the highlights of the are the shareables and bar snacks. Buffalo cauliflower is a great chicken wing dupe, and the fish tacos are decently filling as well.
google avatar

Yelp
I meet up with some friends for brunch. My party was late, but I was still seated which I appreciate. The restaurant is cute with beachy decor. I had no problem finding parking. I ordered a cinnamon roll and breakfast burrito which were okay. I enjoyed my cocktail the yellow mellow, really refreshing. This is a really cute place to meet up with your friends. The vibe is nice.
google avatar

Yelp
Two words: Taco Tuesday! Tiki Beach vibes are the atmosphere here. Friendly staff, fast service and tasty food. Be sure to make reservations if you want to secure a spot. They also have a Jazz Brunch on Sundays ! We can't wait to return. I had the carnita and chicken tacos.
google avatar

Stefan C.

Yelp
Brunch here is fantastic, especially because they had live jazz musicians playing during our meal. Make sure to sit outside to enjoy the music and the great weather. I got the Eggs Benedict and it was made perfectly. It came with a salad that had a very flavorful dressing. The Cafe Americano was also very tasty. The Kid's French Toast was just okay as it wasn't as fluffy on the inside as expected. The maple syrup was plus, however. Service was great. There was one waitress that was always on the move and taking everyone's orders, delivering everyone's food, and taking everyone's payment. She had some help but it was apparent who was working hard. Parking was very simple for a Sunday at noon. There was plenty of street parking. This place is easy to miss because it has a fairly discrete sign. Take a look at my photos to see what I mean. Overall, great experience. I'm looking forward to returning so I can try other items on their menu.

Yelp
This was my first time at Hudson House. I sat at the bar and only had cocktails, but I'll definitely be back for a meal soon! Johnny (I think) the bartender was so sweet and made some delicious drinks. I ordered the Mellow Yellow (a mango cocktail with tequila) and a Crush on You (similar guava cocktail with rum. )Both tasted SO fresh like they were made with real fruit puree, they were bright and tangy with a texture that's thick, but thinner than a smoothie. Their cocktail prices were extremely reasonable imo, ranging from $12-$16 for the craft and tiki style cocktails. The 2 I had were $12 and would easily be $16 at a similar spot. The ambiance is like a casual So Cal tiki dive vibe with an adorable inside and outdoor patio! I checked out their happy hour menu and saw a poster for Sunday Jazz brunch and I can't wait to come back for both! Thanks Johnny for the great experience, see you soon
google avatar

Janet B.

Yelp
Came by for some cocktails . Love the bartender and the staff ! The bathroom was kind of messy but other then that we had a great time
google avatar

Jessica H.

Yelp
We couldn't eat inside due to it being reserved for a babyshower, so we ate on the heated patio which had covered seating, heat lamps, and patio table seating. There was also one t.v as well I like that they have happy hour on Saturday's till 3pm. We ordered: The OG (watermelon spicy margarita) 5/5 Pear Mule 4.5/5 Buffalo Cauliflower 5/5 Shoe String Fries 3/5 (they were kinda cold) Serrano Grit Fritters 4/5 (I wish they were crispier) Honey Hot Wings 4/5 Service was a little slow but they had a lot of big parties on the patios so I want to say it was due to that. But overall it was a nice spot!
google avatar

Yelp
Hudson House is my new favorite spot to go to. This restaurant/bar has amazing drink options, specifically for mixed cocktails of tequila or vodka. My top 3 favorites are The OG, Mellow Yellow, Beach Break and Take A Bow. The drinks are very good! The spot is so cute. It's beach vibes and decorated with surfboards and skateboards around the place. There are seats at the bar, inside the restaurant and outside in the patio. The patio has lots of heaters to keep you warm on a cold day. The staff is very nice and friendly. I would definitely recommend this place to other people! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!
google avatar

Yelp
I am not a huge steak guy, but I love the Skirt Steak and fries I tried here. The steak is soft and thin. Seasoned well, and you tell them how you want your steak. French fries were good too. Menu options will excite you. Nice place right on the view of the water. Can't wait to come back again.

Yelp
Standing in front of the Hudson House is like standing in front a painting at a modern art museum. It's abstract exterior looks like a cross between Jackson Pollock, and Where the Wild Things Are. Brady Smith did a phenomenal job with this building as his canvas. It can best be appreciated in the dimming light of a summer sunset. The night sky doesn't do it justice. The menu at Hudson House is as abstract as the outside mural. It's kind of muddled, searching for direction. If that's what the owner intended, then it's spot on and warrants congratulations. The food is darn good and there's plenty of it. I ordered the House Smoked Brisket sandwich. Sure enough, as is with all smoked brisket, it's never enough. I found myself eating slowly, so as to savor every bite. Yes, it's that good. Two of the dining party enjoyed the fish tacos. Three amply filled tortillas brimming with fish goodness. Those things went fast. Another of our group had the Hot Chicken sandwich. Man when that hit the table, the only thing I could think of was, football on a plate! Okay, not that big, but softball sized anyway. It was said to have been quite flavorful. The sweet potato fries too. Unfortunately, the last of our party ordered the Salmon. It was served undercooked. However the very cool server immediately took it back to the kitchen, and returned with apologies. As it should have been, the entree was taken off the check. So a bit of class. Befitting the standard set upon entering. The Hudson House was a good find. Quick Tip: The inside gets crowded, so be prepared to be seated in the post Covid accommodations outside. Although they have space heaters, it can still get pretty cold out there. The best solution is to warm up your insides with a few from their extensive drink menu. Then when you leave, the mural out front may make a little more sense. Sorry no picture of the mural. I wasn't going to bastardize it by taking one in the poor lighting. And I surely wasn't going to return in the light. Not after availing myself to the extensive drink menu the previous night!

Yelp
Huddy's is great neighborhood bar and restaurant. Love to stop in for dinner and a craft cocktail. The service is friendly and attentive. You can't beat their happy hour.

Yelp
Great food. Even better drinks. Great ambience and I love all the staff. I recommend Taco Tuesday, happy hour or Sunday brunch!!

Yelp
The food, the ambiance, and the service, were all top notch. I would definitely recomend trying

Yelp
Make a reservation on Taco Tuesday or the hostess will yell at you and tell you to. Ive never seen servers less inclined to help you. They dont like customers and make you feel bad walking in to have a drink.
google avatar

Sherman T.

Yelp
I used to love coming here. Way back before COVID when this was Brooke Williamson's early restaurants before Top Chef fame!! But alas post COVID many restaurants closed and re-opened. The atmosphere is not the same. The popular food items not the same It used to be cool dark lounge bar now it's bright and roomy. Not all that bad but not the same. Some of the happy hours still good!! I'll try again some time.
google avatar

Danielle T.

Yelp
Food was delicious, drinks were fantastic. Our server Allison was amazing! Recommended the best dishes and drinks for us! We will definitely be coming back!
google avatar

Ms C.

Yelp
I tried this place for the first time, such a disappointment. The skirt steak is not worth the price. The plate was full of French fries and just a very small portion of steak. It was not worth $33. Definitely won't be going back.
google avatar

The P.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and superb food. The mixed and specialty drinks are a little too sweet for me, so I usually stick to the straight stuff. The ribs on the app menu are fantastic, initially eat two helpings of those as a meal. All the other appetizers and food options are creative and very good. The outdoor patio is a nice, family friendly, place to enjoy a drink and a snack on a nice day. The prices are reasonable for either a friend evening out or family happy hour.

Vincent L.

Yelp
The food was meh and every single thing was cold. Our appetizers were tasty but cold. Cold wings, cold edamame, cold mozzarella sticks. For the mains the fish was good and prob only hot thing all night. My steak was so cold and disgusting. Our service was good although you could tell he was stretched thin. No problems with service at all. Ambience was actually nice out back. I still find it hard to believe that they only have picnic tables with no backs and sticky tops. Cocktails were good and cool variety but not enough to make up for our dinners.
google avatar

Ryna D.

Yelp
Very nice gastropub in Redondo! I've been here a couple times, once for happy hour drinks and another time for dinner on the later side. The cocktail menu is solid and I've enjoyed all the cocktails I've ordered. Food-wise, it's a typical gastropub menu. Nothing too fancy but the portions are good and there's something for everyone. Service is about average and the atmosphere is pretty chill. Definitely a neighborhood joint type of spot that frequented by locals.
google avatar

Leah S.

Yelp
Love this place!!!! One of the best happy hours in town! Great service at the bar! Also recommend the shishito pepper/edamame appetizer! So yummy and not stingy with their sauce. LOVE. The aesthetics and energy of this place is on point, inside and out! Great for an impressive but also casual date/hangout!
google avatar

Lisa K.

Yelp
Our group came here mid-week to check out their Happy Hour but we had a great time and ended up staying for hours. It was bingo night and while at first that sounded a little slow it was a fun and energetic crowd and we had a great time. The service was quick and friendly, drinks were exactly as ordered and all of the food we tried was tasty. Our favorites were the salty dawgy, black ball, mac and goat cheese, fritters and fish tacos. Will definitely be back, great place with a fun bingo experience!
google avatar

Lauren T.

Yelp
Their happy hour / taco Tuesday is incredible! We love their cocktails and street tacos. Highly recommend making reservations. Their outdoor seating is very lovely. Great service !
google avatar

Yelp
Definitely not the best spicy watermelon margarita in California as I was told and came there to seek out. Well, perhaps, but I'm still on the hunt. I'm pretty sure there's better out there. Or maybe I've got comittment issues. However, the vibes, music and crowd here are awesome. I came here unexpectedly last Saturday night. Bartenders were attentive, kind, funny and helpful. But let's upgrade a bit an add salt to the rim at least. Maybe if you drink enough of them, they get better. But in the meantime, while I'm sober- where are the best margaritas and/or spicy margaritas in the South Bay? Please let me know! Def head here with the crew on the weekend. It is bound to be a good time!

Yelp
We had some time to kill before a dinner reservation nearby so I yelped "cocktail bars" and this place popped up with over 1000 reviews. The drink list is extensive, almost overwhelming. There are tons of cocktails, a nice selection of local beers and even a "hard" kombucha! Lols. I wasn't in an adventurous mood so I opted for the "OG" (a watermelon Margarita with a kick of Serrano chile). It was either strong or I am a lightweight or both because I was slightly buzzed after just one. My husband opted for a beer (a "belgian blonde"), which came in a busted can with 3 dents on it. Canned beer is fine but when it looks like its been hit by a car, maybe it should be poured first so you can hide the evidence or serve it later in the night when the bar is dark? Also, a frosted beer glass/mug would have been nice as the beer wasn't overly cold to begin with. Service was spotty and not too cordial but honestly that seems to be the norm these days. The server came around to check on us when we were halfway through our drinks but never returned. When we finished our drinks and wanted to pay, we flagged down a busser. I am not in a hurry to go back to Hudson House but if I were in the area again with time to kill, I would go and try another cocktail and maybe some food. It smelled good but I didn't see anyone going ham on their food. So it makes me wonder if everyone was feeling peckish or if the food is an afterthought.

Nazia R.

Yelp
I didn't know what to expect when I came to Hudson House. I came because my neurologist said the drinks were great! And the drinks were yummy! You definitely get your money's worth. My cousin and I were LOVING the appetizers. We are coming back for the main course another day! Definite hit in the South Bay ! Classy spot!
google avatar

Eliza I.

Yelp
Great local spots with craft cocktails and yummy food. Bartenders are extremely nice and will alter a drink to fit your liking. I'm more of a sour/bitter cocktail drinker but sometimes I'll see something on the menu that sounds like it would be super good if it wasn't as sweet. Bartenders there are always happy to tweak it for me, and make the most delicious drinks! Great happy hour, and a great date night spot!

Stumbled upon this spot as I was looking for spaces for a birthday gathering. Fortunately for us it was Taco Tuesday! We grabbed a seat at the bar and were quickly served some delicious cocktails. Still can't believe the tacos were only $1! Great spot for drinks and plenty of outdoor space on the back patio.

Yelp
$1 tacos on Tuesday, this is the best deal in town and the only day I come here. A bit overpriced on any other days. The cocktails are delicious.

Yelp
Hudson house is great! They usually have some type of special or really great live music. Sundays they have tasty brunch & jazz and (at least today) acoustic entertainment after 7. Don't know if that's the schedule but they always have something going on when I drop in. The tacos are good and I've enjoyed lots of the other snacks on the menu, really good cocktails the bartenders know what they're doing
