A coworker raved about this spot and said that she loves their hummus, so I had lunch here on a Wednesday afternoon.
This is indeed a bodega that sells hummus, as well as baked goods, condiments, desserts, and spreads. Order at the counter, and your food will be brought to you. There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.
There was a monthly special advertised when I visited: The Persian Kebab. The friendly cashier told me that it was made with beef & lamb, and he was planning on eating that for lunch later, so I decided to try it out!
Persian Kebab Plate: Persian Kebab (4 pcs), hummus w/warm chickpeas, Israeli chopped salad, cabbage, pickles, split pea soup, and pita ($27.00 + tax).
+Huge portion! I had the leftovers with some rice for dinner.
+Persian Kebab was nicely charred on the outside yet moist on the inside. As someone who eats lamb, I enjoyed it but if you don't like the gaminess it may not be for you.
+Hummus was smooth, rich, and not overly salty. Chickpeas on top were a nice touch.
+Normally, I'm not a fan of split pea soup, but since it was cold I opted for that over fries or rice. It was delicious and I think they made me a fan.
+Pita was fluffy and warm. I wish there was more than one!
-Israeli chopped salad, cabbage, pickles provided freshness, but I wish some of the veggies weren't tart.
*Verdict: Quite expensive for a fast casual spot, but the food is well-prepared, and portions are generous.
