"It’s hard to miss Hyphy Burger—just keep an eye out for the bright yellow Hyphy Bus, plastered with “this vehicle will gas-break-dip”, parked outside. The smashburger spot in West Oakland is a fast-casual destination for anyone who appreciates crispy beef. Tack on some thoroughly salted fries to your order, and any of the spoons-required milkshakes (we’re partial to the Fruity Pebbles flavor)." - Julia Chen, Lani Conway
"The giant yellow Hyphy Bus (“this vehicle will gas-break-dip” is plastered across the side) lets you know you’ve made it to this West Oakland spot laser-focused on just three things: smashburgers, fries, and shakes. They’re all fantastic—especially the Burnout Burger with an extra bite from pepperoncinis and jalapeños. Head here when you need a dose of Bay Area pride, or whenever you’ve got the urge to take down an Oreo shake while Dru Down, The Jacka, and P-Lo blast at max volume." - julia chen 1, lani conway
"Local rapper Guap, once known as Guapdad 4000, and regional food influencer BayAreaFoodz, otherwise known as Darion Frazier, opened their smash-hit burger spot on Friday, February 14. The love letter to Oakland fast food is celebrating its grand opening on Saturday, August 2 after much hype; final timing for the event is forthcoming. In a message sent out by the business, restaurant owners announced a day with free activities for kids, parents, and lots of special guests. Coloring books, a finalized menu including two new burgers and a new dessert, premiere swag including bags, and a “Keak da Sneak collab” are all on deck for the momentous occasion. The restaurant’s team are still looking for sponsors to put together the stage, a picnic area, and nonalcoholic beverages; "Alcohol sponsors can sponsor the after party, the note reads." Since opening, fans have amassed a cult following for the Stunna Shakes and saucy burgers. SFGATE columnist Drew Magary penned it as "the best burger he’s eaten — ever." - Paolo Bicchieri
"You’ll know you’ve made it to the East Bay’s most exciting new smashburger destination once you’ve spotted the bright yellow Hyphy Bus. Get your dose of Bay Area pride while downing crispy beef, Fruity Pebbles milkshakes, and perfectly golden brown fries that somehow taste even better with Dru Down, The Jacka, and P-Lo rattling the speakers at full blast." - patrick wong, julia chen 1
"The giant yellow Hyphy Bus (plastered with “this vehicle will gas-break-dip”) parked outside lets you know you’ve arrived at this West Oakland smashburger spot. Whether you were born here or just got off a plane at OAK, you’ll be fully consumed by the hyphy era theme the moment you enter the parking lot and hear Dru Down, The Jacka, and P-Lo blaring through the speakers. photo credit: Melissa Zink There are only two burgers on the menu, each with crispy edges we could easily find inside of a Lay’s bag, layered with globs of creamy (and appropriately named) “You Feel Me” sauce, and grilled onions on squishy potato buns. Round out any order with the only two other options on the menu: fries and a Fruity Pebbles or Oreo shake thick enough to defy gravity. You can go through the drive-thru or easily sit down inside—and for night owls, there are plans to extend hours until 1am. Food Rundown Hyphy Burger You can’t go wrong with either of the two burgers. This one keeps things simple with grilled onions, american cheese, pickles, and “You Feel Me” sauce that packs a creamy punch—purists, go for this one. photo credit: Melissa Zink Burnout Burger Just as good as the Hyphy Burger, but with two types of cheese (american and pepper jack), plus pepperoncinis and jalapeños for an added bite. photo credit: Melissa Zink Fries Thoroughly salted and crisp on the edges. No meal here is complete without them. photo credit: Melissa Zink Oreo Shake Even if you’re not someone who goes feral for frozen desserts, this will turn you into a certified shake person. photo credit: Julia Chen" - Julia Chen
