We finally checked out Hypsi, the new spot attached to Hotel Daphne, and it honestly feels like nothing else in the Heights right now. From the second you walk in, you can tell how much thought went into the space. The decor, furniture, and overall design feel intentional but still warm and inviting. It’s stylish without trying too hard. It did not feel like Houston. The patio is very private, and looks like an awesome spot for groups, dates, and brunch as well.
The menu is small in a good way. Everything feels hand-picked, not thrown together, which made ordering easy. We had the squid ink radiatori, the lumache alla vodka, and the Duroc pork Milanese. All three were excellent. The pastas were rich, balanced, and clearly made with care, and the pork Milanese was perfectly cooked and not overly heavy.. it had a very flavorful salad with lemon and dill that really complimented the pork. We are excited to come back and try some of the other items, because they really all looked like solid picks. Dessert was the tres leches tiramisu, which was a standout. It’s a fun twist and a great way to end the meal without feeling weighed down. More importantly, the service was fantastic. We were seated and taken care of right away, and our server Jesus was extremely attentive.
Overall, Hypsi feels like a place you could come for a special night out but also one you’ll want to come back to just because. I am so happy we have a nice boutique hotel in our neighborhood, and an incredible restaurant as well. Great food, a beautiful space, and a vibe that feels fresh for the neighborhood. Definitely worth checking out!!!
