Hypsi

Discovered Hyspi at the Daphne Hotel and it instantly became one of my favorite neighborhood dinner spots. The menu is intentionally small...which I love, and everything we tried felt dialed-in and confident. The spicy vodka pasta was rich and balanced, and the braised short rib was deeply flavored with perfect portions. The space itself is intimate and chic, with a beautiful bar and a wine list that pairs effortlessly with the menu. I loved it enough to come back for lunch, and the daytime vibe shifts into something more relaxed while still feeling polished. It feels like a place you’d stumble into in Europe, yet it has a distinct Houston identity. Hyspi is exactly the kind of focused, design-forward restaurant you want in your regular rotation.

Hypsi at The Daphne Hotel has a very chic, hip vibe and beautiful décor. Service was friendly but not especially attentive. The wine pours were very generous. We started with the lamb meatballs, beef tartare, and grilled octopus. The lamb meatballs were delicious and comforting, served with yummy toasted buttered bread. The grilled octopus was very flavorful and nicely cooked. The beef tartare was presented on top of a piece of bread, which was different, but I didn't love it. For entrées, we ordered the Cavatappi, Beef short rib brasato, Duroc pork Milanese, and Roasted snapper. The Cavatappi was hands down everyone's favorite dish. It was creamy, incredibly flavorful, not too heavy, and it just melted in your mouth. The roasted snapper was my second favorite. It was light yet robust with flavor. The short rib brasato was a bit dry and underwhelming. The Duroc pork Milanese was my least favorite. The pork was very bland, and the dandelion salad on top had a strange flavor that didn't work for me. For dessert, we tried the tres leches tiramisu and the pistachio pie, and unfortunately both were disappointing. The tiramisu portion was generous but all the ladyfingers and coffee flavor were concentrated at the very bottom. The pistachio pie was a miss for the whole table. It initially tasted like key lime pie. The top raspberry layer tasted citrusy orange and clashed badly with the pistachio base layer. None of us enjoyed it. That said, the atmosphere and the Cavatappi would bring me back. Next time, I'd love to try the roasted beets which looked really good.

I love Hypsi. I’ve been there for brekkie 3 times now and it’s been great each time. I love that it’s a little tucked away, how it’s in a hotel, because it feels more relaxed, and yet still has great ambience. The service is great and so is the food. I want to go for lunch or dinner some time to see if it’s as good. But yes, I highly recommend.

After the closure of Elro I was happy to see Terrence Galivan back in the mix with this new restaurant in the heights. I have been a couple of times since they opened in mid December and have been very impressed with both the food and decor. Good service, cool bar scene and even a cozy fireplace. Top dishes include the mozzarella cart, lumache alla vodka and roasted chicken. Also highly recommend the chocolate souffle! Excited to see how this restaurant evolves with the expansion of the hotel.

Excellent food, beverages and service. The venue was artsy and welcoming. The staff felt coordinated and a good team. It was a treat. We had the Ceasar salad that has some welcomed spiciness, the squid ink pasta with calamari was as creative as it was cooked perfectly. The red snapper was delicious, full of flavor and textures.

We finally checked out Hypsi, the new spot attached to Hotel Daphne, and it honestly feels like nothing else in the Heights right now. From the second you walk in, you can tell how much thought went into the space. The decor, furniture, and overall design feel intentional but still warm and inviting. It’s stylish without trying too hard. It did not feel like Houston. The patio is very private, and looks like an awesome spot for groups, dates, and brunch as well. The menu is small in a good way. Everything feels hand-picked, not thrown together, which made ordering easy. We had the squid ink radiatori, the lumache alla vodka, and the Duroc pork Milanese. All three were excellent. The pastas were rich, balanced, and clearly made with care, and the pork Milanese was perfectly cooked and not overly heavy.. it had a very flavorful salad with lemon and dill that really complimented the pork. We are excited to come back and try some of the other items, because they really all looked like solid picks. Dessert was the tres leches tiramisu, which was a standout. It’s a fun twist and a great way to end the meal without feeling weighed down. More importantly, the service was fantastic. We were seated and taken care of right away, and our server Jesus was extremely attentive. Overall, Hypsi feels like a place you could come for a special night out but also one you’ll want to come back to just because. I am so happy we have a nice boutique hotel in our neighborhood, and an incredible restaurant as well. Great food, a beautiful space, and a vibe that feels fresh for the neighborhood. Definitely worth checking out!!!

Cozy vibe inside, velvet couch and low lights. Had the focaccia with ricotta, grilled octopus, red gem caesar, lumache alla vodka, short rib, and pistachio pie. For drinks we had the pepperonchini Martini and calibrian whiskey sour, everything was good. The Octopus was perfect.

Had a really great experience sitting at the bar. Didn’t have a reservation but 2 spots available and were glad we stayed! Service was very quick, pleasant and the food was delicious. A really nice atmosphere and high end but eclectic feel that this neighborhood matches! We will be back!

Such a great addition to the Heights! Elevated lounge atmosphere for dinner was incredible. The art collection was fantastic to see. So much fun! Food was fantastic. The spicy Caesar to start with was a hit. The focaccia was the best I've had outside of Italy. Snapper has an incredible crust. And my husband's short ribs were great as well. And that Tiramisu. Good Lord it was superb. Great staff, fantastic location and service. All in all a great night out in the Heights! Welcome to Houston, Hypsi!

Came for the first week of being open. The hotel and this restaurant are such a great cohesive design. It drips with elegance and comfort. The front hostess was so very nice upon arrival and gave us a great background on the hotel and restaurant. We got some lovely cocktails which all were perfect flavors and complimented the meals flavors very well. Tried the octopus and the cavatappi. Both were very decent but think there is room for the dishes to have a bit more flavor. Will definitely be back for happy hours to try more cocktails and appetizers.

Looks pretty, but they apparently are not doing brunch, despite it being clearly posted and with a menu on their website. Witnessed several upset and confused customers get turned away. Disappointing, for sure.

The Caesar salad was the best Ive ever had. The spice was an amazing touch. The vodka pasta, snapper, and braised short rib were amazing. Tiramisu was delicious, we ate it all. Definitely recommend and the ambience and art is amazing. Our server Dana was amazing, she was very personable and recommended great options.

First, remarkable, friendly, proactive staff, which makes all the difference. They accommodated our preference to eat by the fireplace to start and then head to dining. Which made it special. Food was ten out of ten. Octopus, bolognese, arancini, at the top of my list to hit again. Will return for dinner as soon as possible. Also, had a great brunch the following AM!

Hypsi is the most stylish restaurant in Houston. Located inside the beautiful Daphne Hotel, they are both great additions to the Heights. The art and interior design is sophisticated and warm. Terrence Gallivan has created a curated menu which is inventive and absolutely delicious. The caesar salad, pasta and half chicken were favorites. Gallivan is one of the most talented chefs in town and he has brought some of the late great Elro items with him. Hypsi is an instant Houston classic.

Amazing culinary experience set in the heart of the heights... Not an overwhelming menu but still diverse... highlights from the appetizers: octopus, truffle arancini and steak tartare hit all the classic notes but each had their own unique twists. Main courses: snapper, chicken and tortellini were all shared family style. Highly recommend all 3. Didn't get to try the mozzarella cart but will next time. The dining experience feels almost more like a lounge vs traditional dining. The local art work throughout the entire restaurant and hotel sparks a natural conversation between patrons and the ambiance/setting. Easy place to relax, have a drink and enjoy good food. Staff seemed seasoned and knowledgeable for only being open a few days. Will be back for drinks and dinner.

This was a beautiful location in a new Heights hotel. The service was great, relaxing atmosphere, very good short rib and don't forget tiramisu. Will definitely be back.

Absolutely wonderful! Cannot recommend Hypsi at Hotel Daphne enough ! PSA - make your way to Hypsi at your earliest convenience. Soak up the atmosphere, feel the vibe, eat the food ( it's all delicious ! I am serious!) ,drink the drinks ( also outstanding) , stay long and go over and over! You're welcome ;)

We had an excellent experience as a family. The team, the service and the food were all on point. The ambiance was also very enjoyable and it's definitely a place we'll come back to. Happy to have Hypsi in the neighborhood.
