"The soba noodles at Ichimi Ann Bamboo Garden are made from scratch and beloved for its pleasingly chewy texture. Nearly every menu item can be ordered cold, including the yuzu oroshi with its citrus broth, grated radish, and fresh shiso." - Cathy Chaplin, Matthew Kang

"Ichimi Ann is a family-run Japanese restaurant that serves handmade noodles with more toppings options than an ice cream parlor. Their specialty is soba, which you can order in a hot broth or served cold with a side of soy sauce for dipping. But you can also drop in for a bowl of silky udon to slurp down on your lunch break, too. It’s all simple, fresh, and the kind of comfort food that gets you through a long day. Just keep in mind they close at 4pm most days of the week. " - nikko duren, garrett snyder

"Torrance’s humble soba and udon factory is a wonderful place for a casual lunch in Old Torrance. The zaru soba is the main draw, but the cold and hot noodle bowls are excellent too. The texture of the noodles is unbeatable, with a firm bite and gentle buckwheat flavor. Cash only." - Matthew Kang

"Last weekend and its heat wave called for a bowl of Ichimiann’s excellent cold soba noodles. The menu is abridged at the moment, with most popular variants and a few daily specials like a tempura-topped kake rice bowl still on it. But thankfully they retained their mentai oroshi, one of my favorites on the regular menu that comes topped with cod roe, seaweed, green onions, and bonito flakes." - Eater Staff

Me and my Dad enjoy eating Ichimiann Soba!! Which is good, delicious, and Healthy!! I like the Umishiso which is a Soba with Japanese Plum & Shiso which is a Japanese Herb. And I enjoy eating Onigiri which you can choose either Salmon, Uma, or Kombu which is Seaweed. It is peaceful and relaxing. You go to the Cashier to place your Order and they give you a Number you take to your table and they will give you the Meal you Pick. I went there today because in Japan they Celebrate the Japanese New Year. Even though it is New Year Eve. So I enjoy eating Ichimiann. I recommend taking either your Family or Friends to Lunch!!

Google
Amazing restaurant that makes you feel like you went to a soba restaurant in Japan in a less urban area. I really loved their broth for the Niku dish, and I thought the meat was good. Wouldn't have traded it for anything else today.

Google
such a cute and authentic local place. one of my favorite spots, i go whenever i'm on a break from school. other than the food being top notch, it's a really nice experience. their tempura don and udon especially is amazing. might be a little pricey, but you pay for quality. the inside has a lot of seating, they also have the soba-yu to drink, its so good give this place a try, you won't be disappointed.

Google
Very sweet staff. One of the cooks was telling me how he makes everything from scratch and you can tell! The food is so fresh and wonderful. My mom and I got the tempura combo with hot udon noodles and the cold chicken cucumber soup. Both were amazing. The noodle broth was so delicious and the cold soup was packed with flavor. The chili crisp on the side is the best I've ever had. You can tell they make it there. Highly recommend and I'll be back!!

Google
What an amazing, authentic hole-in-the-wall Japanese noodle restaurant. The staff is so wonderful, courteous, and helpful. There are a few tables for sitting but can possibly get crowded if you get there during rush hour. Two specials: 1) Yuzu Chashu bowl - unique and delicious broth! The best dish we ate there. 2) Banbanji (sesame soup with shredded chicken, cucumbers, and rayu) - ordered with soba noodles. Popular dish. For any of the broths and toppings, you choose between udon/soba and hot/cold. Both udon and soba noodles were freshly made!

Google
Oh my god. The cold soba is about as authentic as you can get outside of Japan. The taste, the texture …. Are prefect. We ordered yuzu chasu cold soba and tenzaru with tempura. The chasu was perfectly charred, the soup was very refreshing with the yuzu flavor. Tempura is slightly breaded. I think this THE SOBA place if you want to try authentic soba noodles. We will come back for the udon.

Google
On the second day of my trip to California with my friends from Seattle, we were looking for a quick and simple lunch spot when we stumbled upon a Japanese udon restaurant that served hot, savory broth. The atmosphere reminded me of a restaurant I used to frequent in a Korean neighborhood, which made me feel comfortable and at ease. The unique udon menu items we saw on offer were also very impressive and something I had never seen before in Seattle or Korea. Most importantly, the broth was exactly to my liking, so it didn't feel too heavy as my first meal of the day, and the staff were all very friendly and kind. Despite the Seattle-like cloudy and chilly weather, my body and mind were warmed up, and I felt great.

Google
Super homey, go on a quick lunch break or a relaxed dinner with friends and family. Wide selection of simple, Japanese classic toppings. Both soba and udon are made with so much love, I love the texture. The light yet flavorful bonito broth encapsulates the expertly crafted noodles. Can't wait to go back to try all the toppings!

Yelp
A small fmaily owned business and a hole in the wall place. Our family really enjoys coming to this place for solid Japanese soba noodles and rice bowls. There's a simplicity to their dishes that we really enjoy. Their noodles are handmade daily and our kids devour them! The quality of their noodles are so good!! - yuzu chasu soba noodles (cold) - kakiage rice bowl - mentai cream udon - beef bowl - plain udon Their service is pretty slow but totally worth the wait. You order first and grab your own table. The water is self serve. Street parking available everywhere - not too hard to find

Julia H.

Yelp
Service was friendly and quick. Came first thing in the morning on a sugar Sunday. No wait. There was self serve hot tea and iced water/barley tea. The place was quaint, clean and quiet. Got the hot yuzu chasu udon and Mentaiko cream udon to go. The udon noodles are thin and don't have much Q. The broth is good for both. The Yuzu is saltier than Afuri ramen and has slightly less yuzu flavor but is a good substitute if you don't want to drive to DTLA. I didn't really like the sweetness of the chasu with the yuzu flavor. The mentaiko cream was good and not too milky in flavor. Probably needed more mentaiko for the amount of soup. It's a lot of food overall. Would come back again.

Tony Y.

Yelp
Dude, this place is so good, I wish i can eat here everyday. Unfortunately, it's pretty pricey but the quality is absolutely there. You order first and then grab yourself a seat. They offer self serve hot/cold tea and water. The udon and soba noodles here are just top notch. Whether you get it in a cold broth or hot soup, you won't be disappointed. Cheers!!

Christie K.

Yelp
Been waiting to try this place & happy I finally got the chance. You can tell the food here is super authentic Japanese noodle. Seems as if their noodles are freshly made in house. We loved the two items we got! Only reason it ranks less than 5 stars is because the service was alittle on the slow side & the overall layout of the place was also a little small. Overall would definitely come again but maybe during the week- hoping that it is less crowded & with the expectation to wait a tad.

Ethan N.

Yelp
Great cozy local spot for authentic soba. I think every here dish is good and service is very nice. The barley water is also a nice touch. Great location to frequent on lunch break

Albert T.

Yelp
Soba-making is an art that isn't that common to see, given how difficult and time intensive it is. There are only a small subset of Japanese restaurants that serve hand made soba, and an even smaller number that make soba using 100% buckwheat, rather than adulterating it with other flours that make the dough more ductile and pliable. Ichimiann is one of those place that still make it the old fashioned way, with 100% buckwheat. That's ultimately the reason why we chose to eat here and we were not disappointed. We arrived exactly at 11AM, when they opened and were the first in the building. The menu isn't too complicated but if you have any questions. the cashier is very helpful. Ichimiann is a counter service establishment, so you order in at the front, select your seats and get utensils, then they bus the table for you at the end. We went with two dishes: Chicken Curry, Soba, Hot ($14) - This is homemade soba, and you can definitely tell through the darker pieces embedded throughout. The soba is served in a dashi based broth, then topped with a couple of ladles full of chicken curry. The soba is tender, yet has a bit of a bite to it. The broth starts off with a kombu umami forwardness, then transitions to a rich curry flavor when the two components mix together as you eat. The chicken is super tender - you can tell that it's been stewed for a long time. Everything in this dish is superb. (5/5) Kakiage, Soba, Cold ($17) - I've been hesitant to get cold soba in the past (I know it's totally different, but I dislike Korean cold noodles), but decided to give it a try here. When I took my first bite - woah, cold soba is totally different from hot. The texture is way different, more firm, but very pleasant. Almost like al dente. The broth is dashi, but cooled down is very light and refreshing. The kakiage consists of a ball of tempura battered onion, carrots, and shrimp, fried until lightly crisp and stuck together. There's wakame and scallions included to add additional umami and freshness to the dish. Again, everything is superbly executed and exceptionally delicious. I now can't fathom why I was so afraid of getting cold soba in the past. (5/5) I definitely recommend Ichimiann for some superb soba. Just make sure to get here early - by the time we left around noon, the building was bustling and there was a line of people waiting to order. Bathrooms - None that i could see.

Yelp
I've been eating here for a long time and I have seen it evolve. This is the best soba shop. Every time I come, I try something new and it's always delicious. Today was Yuzu Chashu hot soba soup. Service is always good and consistent. It's a small restaurant and everyone helps returning their trays. I wonder what's next?

Azusa H.

Yelp
I am now obsessed with this place! I got the yuzu chashu cold udon which was super refreshing and delicious. It wasn't busy when I went for lunch but it was also a weekday. You first go in and order at the counter. The server was helpful on giving me recommendations. Then you find your seat with the number they give you. You can find plenty of seating and the restaurant is kept very clean. I am definitely coming here again!

Jenny K.

Yelp
I was scrolling through Yelp and found this gem. I had the curry udon and my husband had the cold unagi soba. He added a tempura rice bowl as a combo for an extra $8- there were 5~6 different rice bowl options. Everything we ordered were really good that we decided we'll come back. We even looked at the menu and decided what we'll order next time. Also, the Japanese lady who works there is so adorable and friendly. I'll come back just for her! So glad to have found a cute little spot around the area.

Shirley B.

Yelp
Food: I stupidly thought all sobas come cold, and I don't really like cold noodles. My friend at the time (now turned bf hehe) suggested we go here for soba, which I was initially not enthused about. But I still went, thinking at least I'll enjoy his company. Boy was I wrong, I mean I enjoyed his company, but the unagi hot soba I ordered was mindblowingly good too! The thick pieces of unagi with the warm soup and soba noodles were like heaven in my mouth. I had to come back, and dragged my mom here not too long afterwards. I tried the mentai oroshi (I'm always a fan of anything cod roe), and that totally solidified this place as definite 5 stars for me! Price: each soba ranges from $12-20 depending on the toppings, I'd say this is very reasonable. The only thing I was hesitant about was that it's CASH ONLY place! For those of you who don't carry cash around (like me), be aware and be prepared Ambiance: nice small ish place located in old town torrance, has about 8 tables in total. Casual and family friendly but also great to come with friends for hangout and light lunch. It wasn't too busy each time I came here on weekends around noon, didn't have to wait much, if at all Service: very nice and polite when taking orders on the front desk, no issues. Water is self serve Parking: free street parking available throughout old town torrance, but you may need to walk just a little from where you parked to the restaurant

Marisa Y.

Yelp
Get the mentai soba and thank me later! Ichimi Ann is one of the hidden gems in Torrance that all the locals know about. I might even go as far to say that I like the soba here better than Tempura Tendon Carlos Junior. They make their soba noodles fresh daily and you can tell by the quality. I came on a Sunday during lunch with my boyfriend it was packed! There wasn't enough tables so we had to wait for one to open up. The restaurant is a bit small so there is limited seating available indoors. They do have one or two tables outside as well. I love drinking the complimentary barley tea that they offer. Super refreshing on a hot summer day and it pairs nicely with the cold soba!

Julie N.

Yelp
If you like hole in the wall restaurants, then this place may be for you. Specializing in udon and soba noodles, the broth tastes like it is soy sauce based. It's different than what I'm used to, so it's probably an acquired taste over time. Here's what we ordered: Beef udon: Okay, but I enjoyed the fact they piled on a lot of green onions Ten kake udon with mixed tempura: Not my cup of tea They do have a bathroom, but you have to go outside and enter the kitchen area. It's tiny.

Andrew S.

Yelp
LA is awash in ramen joints, but has far too few soba spots, which is a shame. Soba is so much better and healthier! Ichomi has some of the best soba noodles in town. It is, as other reviews have said, a hole-in-the-wall. I ordered the zara soba and niku-don. The noodles are excellent with a nice chewy texture and the niku-don was a perfect compliment. Be sure to ask for the sobayu at the end of your meal.

Roberto U.

Yelp
It was good but not great for me because me have great expectations curry was good but soup with seaweed was so salty too salty and wish glasses was bigger because small glasses me bad to get up and refill the good tea but that is why my experience was no great

Roberto D.

Yelp
Been coming here for many many years particularly when they open for business; as I love Soba noodles for breakfast..Surprisingly I also really like their eel & shrimp bowls and karrage.

Hannah S.

Yelp
Came across this hidden gem in Torrance through a popular Instagram Reel and it is now my favorite soba restaurant! It's one of those restaurants I think of when my friends are in the area. I've tried both the Tororo and Tanuki cold sobas and both were declicious! The tororo comes with grated yam which turns the broth into a bit of a sticky consistency - it was my first time trying anything like it so I was a little surprised at first but it grew on me and now I get it every time. The tanuki cold soba was also great and refreshing but had more of a standard soba taste! This is also one of those restaurants where I want to try out everything on the menu because they serve such a variety of dishes apart from noodles and everything looks really good. I noticed older reviews mentioning it's cash only, but I think it changed recently since I was able to pau with card every time I went! One thing they might be able to improve on is their menu setup as it was a bit difficult to understand how to order and how/what to pick for the combinations.

Noba N.

Yelp
This place has been around forever and I'm happy to see them grow! From a small hut taking cash only to now the double sized location and taking cards! Their soba and udon are home made and a very unique glow to their noddles. The soba looks a little clear. And the udon is very thin with texture. I am so mad I didn't take photos of my friends plates as everyone had a good spread of noodles. The nebaneba has been my favorite to go to. I sometimes get their kakiage a la carte It's like $7 but super huge!!! It's super good but I wish they just made it half the price and gave half the amount Regardless this place has all your favorite noodle additions! Tempura, shabu shabu meat, etc You can also get donburi and their combo is fair priced. When you feel like you can get more you can always get foster freeze soft serve next door!

Edlyn W.

Yelp
I love hidden gem spots and restaurants like Ichimiann, that are no frills, so homey and comforting, and sincerely authentic. You order at the front, they have self serve hot/cold tea and water, and they bring the food to you. I ordered the Natto Cold Soba. The soba is firm, springy, and bouncy, cold broth is umami and refreshing. Just simple and so so good. I also tried some of my mom's Hot Soba Beef and it is so comforting and satisfying. The broth is sweet and savory. We each also got a little dish of 3 edamame, so cute.

Roy L.

Yelp
Ichimiann is a hole in the wall Japanese soba noodle restaurant. It feels very authentic Japanese and is always busy during hours of operation. It is certainly a no-frills restaurant where the quality of the food speaks for itself. You order at the counter and they bring the food to your table thereafter. It's very reminiscent of ordering in Japan with the ticket dispenser. We ordered the Kakiage soba, which is a fried onion, vegetable, and shrimp tempura ball on top of a bowl of soba noodles. It was absolutely delicious. Parking can be difficult as it's old Torrance with street parking, and the hours of operation are very limited.

Cathy Y.

Yelp
yum! delicious light cream soba / udon. cute small place, with limited hours and authentic japanese style udon / soba. small portions (one girl who typically eats half her meal) is able to finish the whole thing. it's light, and then offer soba and udon version cold. also their udon is thinner style.

Ethan P.

Yelp
The $20 combo at this local spot is a fantastic deal, offering fresh and delicious food that truly impresses. Each component of the combo is well-prepared and tasty, making it a great value for the price. Supporting local businesses like this not only feels good but also rewards you with a satisfying meal. Highly recommended for anyone looking for quality and value!

Michael S.

Yelp
Saw this place on Insta, had to try. Located in old Torrance this homey japanese restaurant specializing in soba is just what we were looking for. Greeted with a smile and warm welcome. Our order: Chicken curry bowl Ten Zaru (tempura with dipping soba) Mentai bowl BanBanZi Excellent chew on the noodle Flavorful soba dipping broth Tempura crispy light Mentai bowl tasty not to salty Curry was rich but borderline salty Self bus your mess, but the staff did help when they could. I would give it a 4.7 out of 5 Will be back and soon

Brian V.

Yelp
Located in old town, Torrance. This place feels like a mom and pop type place with kind of a authentic Japanese vibe to it (coming from someone who's never been to Japan). Just really helpful and friendly people when you order at the counter. Once you order you find a seat in there someone small building. I ordered the tempura bowl with cold soba noodles served with a dipping sauce. The tempura was good, but I think the star here was the soba noodles. I think they make it in house. The texture it was just so perfect I feel like. Firm and chewy with a very great flavor to it. Also, I just loved the presentation when the order was brought to me. There's self serve water and tea, close by the area you order from. I came during the day at a weird time between lunch and dinner so street parking was just so very easy to find. Not a problem at all. I really enjoy this restaurant and places like this. Definitely would recommend if you want to get some really good soba noodles. The menu seems to be a little extensive as well, so definitely would love to come back and try some other other items.

Jun L.

Yelp
Actually ended up going to Ichimi Ann Bamboo Garden two Sundays in a row... will definitely be back very soon when in the South Bay... 5 stars!!!!! It's an order at the counter, get your own drink, and hole in the wall type of place serving extraordinarily delicious Japanese food that reminds me of actually being in Japan. Loved the Eel Rice Bowl with Cold Soba on my first Sunday visit, and loved the Tempura Don just as much on my second Sunday visit. You cannot go wrong with these items. The portions, in addition, were not very big, but good enough. I felt full but not super stuffed, which I would have gladly done with the food in this restaurant. If you are really hungry, consider adding some additional menu side items with your order. Definitely excited to try out more of their menu offerings in the near future, perhaps something I don't typically order in a Japanese restaurant. Even though it's not a full service restaurant, the restaurant staff were very warm and welcoming, starting with our counter order all the way to the time that the food was delivered to our table. You may have to wait to bit for your order, but the quality of the food with be worthwhile. Water, as well as cold and hot teas are available from the serve your own drink station. After you're done eating there's a tray return station right next to the order counter.

Peggy V.

Yelp
This is the perfect spot to enjoy the best dipping soba during hot weather. Forget about the rice bowls, as they are not particularly memorable. The real star here is the noodles. They are nicely blanched and have a bouncy texture, served on a bamboo plate. The dipping sauce with grated daikon is simply delicious. I recommend pairing it with a side of tempura. It's a no-frills establishment where you pay at the front and seat yourself, with a small and cozy mom-and-pop shop vibe. Since the place isn't very large, I wouldn't recommend it for large groups.

Ron K.

Yelp
Always consistent udon and tempura! This is our go to local spot. So good. Check it out.

Mint C.

Yelp
If you want to enjoy authentic Japanese-style soba, you need to visit Ichimian Bamboo Garden. Their menu offers a variety of soba dishes, all of which are amazing. They also serve hot and cold Mugi cha (barley tea), which is a nice bonus. Keep in mind, it's cash payment only.

Collin R.

Yelp
Quiet little spot that serves amazing soba! Came here with my fiancée - she got the cold Natto Kimchi Soba and I got the cold Kakiage Soba. Both were great! The Kakiage basically came with a whole tempura fried onion with shrimp mixed in. Super crunchy and flavorful. The soba noodles had great flavor - a bit less "wheaty" than the soba noodles we typically make at home. The dashi broth was nice and light too, not too salty. Food came out quick and the staff was friendly. Would definitely recommend this spot for lunch!

Amy K.

Yelp
We tried the zaru which is a cold soba noodle dipped into the cup of sauce with green onions, daikon I think, and wasabi. It tasted good but my boyfriend raves about it. I will be back to try the hot noodles.

Grant S.

Yelp
If there's one thing Ichimi Ann specializes in, it's soba. Soba is criminally underrated but that just means more for me. There's a wide variety of soba ranging from hot to cold soba, perfect for any weather. I love the Yamakake (mountain yam) and Kitsune (tofu pocket) soba. All of the noodles are homemade which is great. The noodles and broth are light and filling. The restaurant is a cozy hole in the wall with no frills. That's how confident they are with their soba. It can't get more authentic than that. The service is nice as well, you'll find a seat and one of the chefs will deliver it to your table. Overall, it's a relatively cheap and fulfilling meal, and definitely good if you want a change from ramen.

Aaron T.

Yelp
I could eat here everyday but then my bank account will be in trouble! Have passed by this place a few times while on the way to Torrance Bakery. Located in Downtown Torrance, it's east to miss as it sorta blends in with the surrounding buildings. An easy way to find it is to find Fosters Freeze...then look to your left...door should be open/slightly ajar. This is not a full service restaurant, you'll order at the counter then find a seat(s)...keep your ticket handy, your order tray will be brought out to you! There is also a self-serve drink station that had iced water, iced tea (barley tea?) and hot tea (barley tea?). Teas were very light in flavor. Menu wise, seems that noodles are the specialty here: hot/cold udon/soba...some rice bowls, tempura, onigiri. There are also a few combos where you could get tempura and hot udon (like I did). Since there was plenty to choose from and I really wanted to try a bit of everything (the menu photos made everything look so good)...the purist in me went for the basics first. I went for hot udon + tendon (tempura rice bowl). Udon was nice and hot, they use the skinnier noodles and soup was on the stronger side (which I like)...but only had green onions on top for garnish. Tempura was light, piping hot and surprisingly not too oily. A nice surprise was the tempura"-ed" shishito pepper! Are far as other items, they have some noodle toppings that are common in Japan but rare/unique to find here such as yamakake (grated mountain yam - viscous texture), natto kimchi (would like this!) and umeshiso (sour plum w/ perilla leaf) cold noodle. Next time, I will probably try one of these! Admittedly, the menu could be a bit challenging for those unfamiliar with the more adventurous side of noodles and rice bowls. I kept finding something I liked but then got sidetracked when I found something else and vice versa. Service was very friendly, we were assisted by a soft-spoken staff member who suggested a combo. I would say the one thing that threw me off was the loud music (it was a Maroon 5 playlist) that was playing and often cutting in/out due to bad reception. Even though we were eating in the way back of the dining room, we could still hear Adam Levine's voice between bites (which is not such a bad thing). To each their own though, just an observation that usually I don't hear this type of music in this type of restaurant. Good food takes time, allow for bit of a wait during peak times (we waited about 15 minutes). They do take cards. There is limited parking in the back. Street parking might be better though. Not open for dinner. Apparently there is another location at Rolling Hills Plaza with even more menu items! Gotta try it someday.

Vivian C.

Yelp
Cute mom/pop type shop that serves a variety of soba and udon dishes! I got the yuzu oroshi with cold soba and my partner got the ten zaru with cold soba. Yuzu oroshi had grated yam and came with some wakame and bonito flakes which complimented the dish very well. Ten zaru came with a variety of tempura but the best part was that it came with two shrimp tempuras instead of one! This place didn't cheap out on us. We paid a little less than $40 for the both of us and left content. Would come back and would also recommend coming early to avoid the crowds and get parking on the street.

Eva W.

Yelp
The food and service were outstanding! We went to Japan in May and finally found an authentic Japanese place with actual flavor! The staff all were so nice and helpful choosing your dish. I had the Ban Ban Zi and it was to die for!!

Maria F.

Yelp
Located at the outskirts of Old Town Torrance, this is a nice spot to enjoy soba or udon, hot or cold. They offer hot or cold tea or water. We ordered: Oyako-don with cold soba Salmon rice bowl with cold udon The food was delicious and not too heavy. The day we visited was a scorcher and it was too hot to eat hot food. The service is quick and friendly. Parking is street parking. Enjoy!

Isabella S.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to get soba. I keep wanting to try something new but I just love the unagi so much!! Service is fast and once you are done, place the try on the wall where you ordered. Not much of ambiance, older mom and pop shop with lots of seating. Parking is easy as well. Definitely not "american japanese" food!

Erika L.

Yelp
TIPS: - CASH ONLY. Luckily, there is a Wells Fargo as well as a Bank of America ATM a short walk away. Overview: This no-frills restaurant is one of the best places for Japanese noodles (soba and udon) in LA County. Service is friendly, and if you are so bold, feel free to practice your Japanese with them as the cashier and wait staff are fluent. Suggestions from a Local: - Room for desert? There is a Foster's Freeze next door. You can head there for soft serve. - Make a day of it: On the 3rd Sunday of the month, an antique fair happens in the same neighborhood. Arrive early to browse deals from different vendors (and secure parking) and head there for lunch when you're feeling peckish.

Yelp
One of the best hot soba I've ever had around this area. This restaurant is super cute and cozy, and everyone is friendly. We got to try mountain yum soba and beef soba, omg, they were so so so good. I really liked the mountain yum soba, broth was rich and flavorful, noodle was just on point! I felt their food is a bit pricey since their noodles, but well- still it was so yum!

Yelp
Oh my god. The cold soba is about as authentic as you can get outside of Japan. The taste, the texture ....

Yelp
I found this authentic Japanese restaurant on yelp in such a charming neighborhood and decided to check it out. We parked in a small parking lot in the back. We were then greeted so kindly when we entered. The ambiance felt so homey and cozy. They had an option to drink their tea - I believe it was barley. We ordered the hot unagi udon and hot tanuki soba. The wait was a bit long and I was starving but the wait was so worth it. The rich broth and tender home-made noodles was so delicious!!

Yelp
It's a quaint little mom and pop shop in Old town Torrance next to the Foster's Freeze. I want them to stay open forever. So please come out and support. You order and pay at the counter. Then self seat and they bring your order out. They have a station for complimentary water and hot and cold barley tea. They have different kinds of soba and udon which you can have hot or cold and rice bowls. You can add sides and different toppings. I was overwhelmed so I picked one of the combos and added tempura. Friend got the kakiage rice. The kakiage was GIGANTIC. I'd never seen kakiage that big before. She seemed to like it. Other friend on the niku udon with ontama. That came first and it smelled so good. Honestly wished I had gotten that. But I can never resist katsudon so I got the pork katsudon soba combo with a side of tempura. Katsudon was good. Bowl was on the mini side but it comes with a plate of soba. You'll be fine if you don't add tempura like me. The tempura was okay. Not as crunchy as I expected. Came with shrimp, pumpkin, sweet potato, eggplant, and shishito. I enjoyed it. After you're done eating, bring your trays to the shelves by the counter. :)

Yelp
My first time trying this restaurant. I just moved to area and I love traditional Japanese food. I was greeted with a friendly smile I let them know it was my first time having a meal here and I was excited so many options I was torn between the rice and noodles. They said they make noodles fresh and handmade. Since I've never tried cold noodles I went with my favorite chicken curry and rice and some mixed tempura. The chef brought my food and he was nice enough to bring me a small sample of his homemade fresh cold noodles and I was so excited to try! WOW I never thought cold noodles (soba) would be so delicious and refreshing yet so savory. I was very happy and satisfied. The presentation was beautiful and very well put together. Highly recommend

Yelp
Service was great, the staff made steps to rectify an incorrect order. The mentai oroshi soup was remarkably balanced between salty and umami. The store itself felt Hawaiian since they kept playing aloha type music. Furniture felt a little old, but it's not really a factor you'd consider while coming here to eat

Yelp
Really wanted to try their mackerel but I don't think that's on the menu anymore. Instead got the cold unagi soba. Absolutely love the unagi, it was very flavorful and soft and slightly charred or grilled. The only thing was that the dish itself was a bit too salty for me, I believe because of the amount of soy sauce in the dish. But overall the dish was light and refreshing and it would taste great in a warm sunny day.

Yelp
It has been almost a decade since my last visit and this small & unassuming self-served restaurant is still here despite the COVID pandemic. [Parking]: Plenty of street parking in the part of the town. [Amenities]: The restaurant accepts credit cards now and there was one outdoor patio table available. Complimentary hot and cold barley teas are still available and customers can return trays right next to the cashier counter (self-served). The restaurant also extends opening hours from 4 PM to 6 PM on Thursday to Saturday. [Menu]: The menu is slightly confusing, but basically customers can choose hot (kake or hot broth noodle) or cold (zaru aka cold noodle with dipping sauce) then follow by udon or soba. Ten zaru is simply a cold udon/soba + tempura combo meal and ten kake is hot broth noodle + tempura combo meal. Additional toppings such as unagi (eel), tororo (grated yam), wakame (wakame seaweed), kitsune (fried bean curd). tanuki (tempura crunchy), and tsukimi (raw egg) can be added to udon/soba bowls for an extra charge (both hot & cold). Other options include rice bowls with pork katsu (pork loin), chicken curry, and beef. *** Ten Zaru (cold dipping style noodle with assorted tempura - udon noodle, $18): Udon was refreshing and the dipping sauce tasted alright, but the star of this dish was actually tempura. Lightly battered and I could actually taste natural flavors from each vegetable. Unagi Kake (hot broth eel noodle bowl - udon bowl $19): Broth tasted a tad salty, but udon was great. Eel tasted pretty solid, but not sure whether I want to add extra $8 just for three pieces of eel. *** A+ udon and tempura, but prices are getting really expensive and I wouldn't considered $20 meal in 2023 "affordable". A solid 4.5-star on food, but bump up due to good service and free barley tea.

Yelp
I used to come here a lot when I lived in Torrance, and this place was my favorite! They don't have yakitori anymore, but they still have a great variety of noodles and bowls. I recommend anything, but my favorite is kakiage! Omg! It's sooo good!!! I tried salmon ikura don, and it was also very tasty! I came in at their closing time, but Kota was kindly took my order, and told me to take my time and enjoy the meal which I did! I'll definitely come back again!! Thank you so much for serving delicious food and being such a great server!! You are the best!!

Yelp
While there are abundant ramen shops in Los Angeles, and a decent number of udon restaurants, specialty soba shops are more challenging to find. Whenever we visit Torrance or Gardena, we try to find unique Japanese restaurants, and Ichimi Ann, specializing in soba, is certainly one of them. The simplistic style and decor, reminiscent of small noodle shops in Japan, was enough to gain the interest of my wife and me. We decided to come here prior to going to Mitsuwa for shopping. My wife ended up getting the mentai oroshi hot soba, and I got the beef curry hot soba. There is complimentary hot tea that you can get yourself, which was a nice touch. It was a delicious hot rice barley tea, perfect for the winter time. I mixed it with the cold rice barley tea to make it lukewarm for me. I had a taste of my wife's mentai oroshi broth and it was delicious. My own soba broth was also amazing. Ramen broth tends to be a bit salty and heavy, whereas soba broth is not as heavy. The curry mixed well with the broth. The soba was super chewy and tasty. It was very simplistic, yet very delicious.

Yelp
It was a wonderful experience for the first time at this small cozy soba place. All the staffs are very friendly and attentive. Lunch time is always mostly packed. There are some parkings on the street and on the side of the restaurant. The place just had a made over, love the new looks. It is a CASH ONLY place. My favorites soba are: Ten Kake Soba - Hot soup and noodle with Assorted tempura. Serving only Hot. $18 Tsukemen Soba - Cold noodle with fish, pork & sesame hot broth. There are shredded pork chashu, bamboo shoot, dried seaweed, green onion, and egg in the soup. $19

Yelp
Hand-made soba. Plenty of parking. New items on the menu. I always get the tanuki soba cold. Delicious! Most restaurants that serve soba serve frozen soba but not here. You can really taste the difference.
