Miami’s Newest Restaurant Openings, April 2025 | Eater Miami

"Mexico’s Grupo Ikigai opened its first U.S. restaurant on Brickell Key, led by chef Ignacio Carmona, who has more than 30 years of experience in some of Mexico’s finest Japanese restaurants. The menu focuses on nigiri, maki, and sashimi, and offers omakase experiences that use ingredients flown in from Japan, New Zealand, Chile, Mexico, the U.S., and Europe." - Laine Doss

Ikigai - Review - Brickell - Miami - The Infatuation

"Ikigai is a sushi restaurant from Mexico City. The Brickell Key restaurant has attractive tiraditos, nigiri, and handrolls we hope taste as fresh as they look. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Mariana Trabanino

This Japanese restaurant is a true culinary delight. The ambiance is warm and inviting, perfectly blending traditional and modern decor. The sushi is incredibly fresh and expertly crafted, while the sashimi melts in your mouth. The attentive staff enhances the experience with their knowledge and recommendations. Overall, it's a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Japanese cuisine.

Delicious sushi. Definitely recommend White Fish Tiradito and Smoked Kampachi. All pieces of fish were fantastic. Appreciated the simple design and attention to detail in tableware. Restaurant offers 2 indoor areas and few tables outside, as well as a bar and sushi bar.

Came for Miami Spice but will definitely be coming back. Loved all the fresh fish, the kind service, and clean atmosphere. Great for date nights and family time. The omakase was amazing.

Had a great experience at Ikigai Miami — the food was incredibly fresh, beautifully presented, and full of clean, balanced flavors. The service was attentive without being overbearing, and the staff made us feel genuinely welcome. Prices were more than fair for the quality, especially considering the caliber of the ingredients and overall vibe. Definitely a spot worth returning to if you’re looking for thoughtful Japanese-inspired cuisine in a relaxed, upscale setting.

I went with a group of my friends to this place to try the Miami Spice, I won’t lie the ambience and the environment is really nice and peaceful until it came to the food, I’d say for $35 I won’t expect much but for what happened is what I’m upset about. Firstly there was a bug that was swimming around my friends water that they charged us $24 for. I had my glass refilled once but we were charged $24 for 3 bottles of still water. We did not get an apology but instead the glass was just taken from us immediately and replaced, fine we let that slide, things happen and there’s always going to be bugs. Until I got my salmon bowl that had a piece of plastic in it. I gave the benefit of the doubt to be nice and just kindly let them know there’s a piece of plastic but then again they took it from me and offered me something else, again no apology or anything, and the piece of plastic was a sharp one. Our bill came up to $300 for 6 people which is an ok price but we were upset by the genuine lack of communication this resteraunt had. The food was also very mid, the yuzu whitefish we had was extremely sour and the eel bowl was drenched in sauce. Everything tasted like it could be made at home. Very underwhelming.

Google
Gem for Sushi Lovers!! The sushi was amazing.. The moment you step in the ambiance has Japanese minimalist feel and everyone was very welcoming. Each sushi we had was fresh and very intricate blend of flavors. Recommend the white fish triadito,, Yorokobi, Kanikama Special!! The Akami and Chutoro were also a favorite.

Google
Some of the beat sushi ever. The specials are the way to go. The smoked kampachi might be the best sushi dish I’ve ever had. So many delicate flavors mingling to creat the perfect bite. The white fish tiradito was a bit too citrusy but the hamachi Serrano was perfect - with ponzu sauce that wasn’t cloying. Even the ‘regular’ sashimi was just wonderful. Great fish. Excellent service.

Nicky and Vanessa were great waitresses super helpful with my allergies and very kind. Good place especially if you have soy, gluten, shrimp, oyster allergies like myself. I recommend the fish over the rolls

Yelp
Loooved Ikigai! We went there during Miami Spice and loved everything we ate. The fish was so fresh and tasty. We were concerned we wouldn't be full so we ordered an extra item - the Crispy Umami Shrimp which we did not regret at all because it was one of our favorite items. Service was super friendly. The interior of the restaurant is very cozy. The only thing we were caught off guard with was that we were asked if we wanted fresh wasabi, assuming it was included, but it ended up being an extra fee. Overall the food was top notch and we can't wait to come back!

Yelp
This is a new spot, everything inside is brand new and shiny, you can tell they put a lot of thought into everything down to the smallest detail to make this look and feel like traditional Japanese dining experience. We did Miami spice but also ordered some nigiri ala carte. Service was quick and our waiter was very polite and explained everything. The food was as delicious as you would expect, all pieces hit really well expect for maybe mackerel which could use some more flavor and the scallop which had some smudge on top of it that I personally didn't like.

Yelp
Garage parking nearby. They validate two hours of parking. Beautifully decorated interior, true to Japanese design. Clean wood and simple sharp edges. It's a place you could dress up, but many people I saw were pretty casual. Came in for the Miami Spice. It was a nice omakase! What a treat. Fresh fish, quality seasonings. They also have a fresh Japanese wasabi option. The proprietor Juan Carlos was very friendly, checking in gracefully at different points in the night. Apparently this is an extension of concepts he has in Mexico too, which shows in the delivery of this new miami location. He's got the experience and talent to make it happen! I'll be back.

Yelp
I came here with some friends after an event for Miami Spice and wasn't sure what to expect. The atmosphere was modern, clean, and pleasantly not too noisy. The server was attentive and guided us through the menu, which was helpful. The food itself was decent for Miami Spice Lunch like $35, but the portions were on the smaller side, so it didn't feel very filling. Considering the price, I would say it was just okay. Overall, it was a fine experience, but I'm not certain I would return.

Yelp
With their soft opening well on the way to great success, Brickell Key's newest hot spot is ready for your Japanese pallet. Let's start with the decor, oh my gosh, love the simply open modern Japanese style brown (bamboo brown), black and gray colors combination. The space is very clean, sushi bar area, lovely drinking bar area, beautiful tableware. Love the low yet, bright enough lighting. The staff is uniformed in all black, they look exceptionally sharp. Friendly and beautiful host greets you with a smile, get you seated with a menu which has a great variety of Nigiri, Temaki, Sashimi, Rolls, the regular classic Japanese sides, house special and classic Japanese desserts. The Fresh Wasabi for the Sashimi was delicious however I was not expecting it to have a charge seeing that it was done without us asking for it, nonetheless very tasty. The Otoro, Hamachi, Akami, Unagi and Hamachi Serrano Sashimi were all so freshly delicious I order second serving for all of these. They literally melted in the mouth. Our sushi bar experience was great Chef Nacho was the absolute best, he was friendly and his sashimis were chef's kiss. Ask him to make something special, thank me later. We had both the Mochi Ice (passion fruit flavor) and Matcha Cheesecake which were absolutely delicious. The texture and flavor were very pungent is a great tasting way. The cheesecake melted in the mouth. Perfect way to end a great delicious meal. Cheers to a great experience, welcome to the new restaurant on the block wishing them all the success.

Yelp
The sushi and service was really good! However, we came for the Miami Spice deal and were extremely disappointed to find out that it was advertised as including 10 pcs online but only 6 in person. The manager was great and honored the original deal, but they may be changing this soon. Aside from that, our server was very attentive, the drinks were great, and we really enjoyed the sushi.

Yelp
Part of me wants this place to stay on the down low, but they deserve all the hype. This spot is a hidden gem on Brickell Key. The restaurant is really nice for a quiet date night. There's also a chef's counter, which is fun to watch. I highly recommend everything I had, but especially the smoked kampachi with apples and pecorino, the white fish tiradito, and the nigiri. Get here before the world finds out!

Yelp
Fantastic sushi, elevated. This restaurant has a minimalistic appearance and they are more focused on impressing you with quality than they are with fanfare. I also had the Miami Spice here modified to be vegetarian. Tempura was pure joy with a light battering and a dipping sauce that made the vegetables the focus. The vegetarian bowl even though very simple was incredibly tasty with the shiso leaf just waiting to be tasted. The cheesecake was not overtly sweet and was just the right touch to end the lunch. I was hesitant because I did not see Japanese chefs, but these chefs are trained right and everything they are using is top notch. It's casual or dressy, you set the tone. Upscale but relaxed. So fresh, so clean people. There is a parking garage at the north side of the restaurant that will be your best and most convenient option unless you live on the island and can walk it in.

Yelp
After a walk around Brickell Key we enjoyed the hospitality and amazing food at Ikigai Sushi Bar. The owners were very welcoming and the service was superb. Great place, highly recommended, many of us will be returning! https://www.instagram.com/ikigai_miami -- in Brickell Key.

Yelp
This place was great. I came twice and did the omakase twice and loved it. Very good fish and well priced and on a private island on brickell near my office Highly recommend and a great addition to the neighborhood

Yelp
We came across this place and had the pleasure of meeting the owner, who is an absolute sweetheart. The food was incredible--full of flavor and beautifully prepared. The service was excellent, with great recommendations from the staff. We live in the Key and will definitely be back!

Yelp
Excellent traditional Japanese food. Go for the tempura, udon and tuna dom buri. They also have excellent eel bowl - which is very hard to make right.

Yelp
Normal food. I felt uncomfortable the whole time because the waitress was looking and staring at my husband. I won't be back

Yelp
This gem has successfully benefitted from soft opening and has established itself as a legit leader in Miami's sushi scene. My wife, daughter and some friends and I dined there on Friday night and were fortunate enough to be offered and a master platter of three types of tuna sashimi that was the best I've ever tasted. We also enjoyed roles ( happily for my wife some meat dishes), and other sashimi offerings. Drink offering is simple but delicious, with the super attentive staff and simple ambiance being a perfect trifecta. Highly recommend this hidden gem for lunch or dinner.

Yelp
Amazing! I was able to see a restaurant in Madrid, from my home in Miami. May me very happy to remember the good times I enjoyed many years ago. I'll have to come back!

Yelp
Ikigai recently opened on Brickell Key but without any of the glitches of a newbie. I have eaten there three times already and have basically tried almost the whole menu. Each bite is better than the previous in terms of quality. The nigiri in particular is outstanding because the cuts are generous; somehow they have really flavorful rice; and they remain true to Japanese style by not giving you a massive mound of rice that would overwhelm the fish. Also, if you happen to go early on a Saturday night, you might catch their tuna-cutting, where they break down an enormous tuna and you can try each of the various parts, could not be more fresh. It is worth the detour even if you don't live on BK.
