The place was quite crowded when we passed by the first time so had to come back and try it out. First thing first, the staff is extremely nice and kind. They knew we were Muslims and were forthcoming with the flavors that had alcohol in them (which we really appreciated). They have 3 diff sizes to choose from and with the small size you get to pick 2 flavors. You also get to sample 2 flavors. We went complete 180 and got 2 different flavors from the ones we tried. I got cheesecake and milk chocolate which ended up making it too sweet (my fault clearly) and tasted more like an ice cream than a gelato. It’s $8 for the small size and they fill it up quite generously. They have a few tables outside. Will certainly be back to try more flavors and increase the stars then :)

Y’ALL. This blueberry gelato??? Ate. Left no crumbs. I took one bite and ascended—like hello?? WHO gave them the right to make it this good?? It’s giving blueberry dream, it’s giving main character energy. Creamy, fruity, FERAL behavior activated. If you’re in NYC and not pulling up to il Laboratorio for this, you’re simply living wrong. Go get u a lil scoop and romanticize your life IMMEDIATELY.

Over priced , vainilla flavor has pieces of butter, somehow we didn’t feel like it was fresh. Not tasty at all.

This place has quality gelato. The staff is always courteous and professional, and I’ve had a great time trying new flavors every time I visit.

Scoops are pretty big so small is a good option if you get full easily. The texture is really good for gelato (feels like the european one)

Allie was super friendly and helpful each time I've been in!! Had the raspberry and cream cheese (nice mix!) - the serving size is generous for a small and worth the price tag. Flavors tend to be diverse and change often (ex they had ube, white toasted sesame, apricot, pumpkin & a slew of sorbets today).

Nice spot for some gelato. There's a large selection of flavors so there will be something that everyone will like. I got a scoop of pumpkin and a scoop of apple cinnamon. The flavor of both were amazing.

LOVED this place!! The flavors are so interesting. I understand why they limit you to 2 samples but I wanted to try them all they all sounded so good. I highly recommend the honey lavender & basil combo. I definitely will be back.

Good! Been meaning to stop in and glad we did. They have a pretty great selection and some seating outside. We ordered 3 flavors and shared - I believe they were raspberry, lychee and salted caramel - it was good! Not the best I ever had and a little pricey but I do feel the quality is good. I'd like to stop back in and try other flavors! Location on Washington is solid.

I visited this gelato shop and enjoyed my time. They have plenty of unique flavors to choice from. Flavors are very authentic and have a large range of uncommon flavors. I appreciate how creative it is. I didn't end up loving my gelato and not sure if I would want to come back or try somewhere new but i would recommend giving it a try if you are in the area.

We went while visiting family in NJ. It was some of the best gelato I've ever had. I got the marshmallow flavor but everything I sampled was delicious. So many unique flavors too. I wish we had this place on the west coast!

We are loving the seasonal spread of flavors offered at this gelato spot---From pumpkin, to black peppercorn, to toasted coconut they got many options. Had an affogato and switched out the classic vanilla for the dark chocolate and toasted coconut. It was De-Lish! Staff was nice and friendly let us try a bunch of samples. Love the overall clean vibe here. Absolutely would return.

I love the gelato here!! Amazing flavors. Very unique. It was nice and cool inside. My boyfriend and I stopped in one night. I tried the hazelnut and brown butter flavors night one. And night two had the rosemary, basil, and sage lol. My boyfriend had the peppermint, oatmeal, fig, and mint. He liked them! And he's not a huge fan of gelato. He said the peppermint was his favorite. Then fig and oatmeal. I loved all of mine. We will definitely go again. The two girls working let us sample some we were interested in. Very nice girls. Prices are comparable to the area. High quality. Totally worth it. It reminds me of the gelato we had in Rome when visiting Italy. I love that.

Yummy! Lots of great ice cream flavors to choose from. Although they have lots of fun flavors the quality is just okay. They also have delicious pastries!

Excellent spot for coffee and pastries as well as ice cream, v friendly staff, no laptops with attitude people taking up 4 seats and staying all day with a snarl on there face. Clean honest prices and my favorite place at the moment

I've been wanting to try this gelato shop for a while now; was waiting for it to get warmer. I saw an Instagram ad and they had 300 flavors that are in rotation. I tried the earl grey tea flavor in a sugar cone. It was pretty good, not overly sweet. Texture was a little strange. The only reason I wouldn't give this place 5 stars is because it's quite expensive for the scoop you get. It was a tiny scoop for $5. But if you're in the mood for trying super unique gelato flavors, you should check it out.

I will say, some of their staff is very rude. However, their gelato is excellent. The place is very clean and they even have cookies and different baked goods. Definitely worth checking out, if you don't mind a server with an attitude.

We come here at least 3 times a week since this place opened. My kid used to love the place but NOT anymore. Since the past month or so, the service here has deteriorated so much. For a child scope they used to give 2 flavors a little of each. And my kids used to have the feeling of getting two ice creams and it used to be fun for them. But since the past month or so they only give one flavor. There this middle aged grumpy guy who is so rude to them We'll just start going to another ice cream place

I first tried gelato at the Manhattan location years ago and remembered that I liked it! So I was thrilled when I saw that they opened a new location in Hoboken! They are known for their innovative and exotic flavors - just the words I live my life by! In the spirit of innovation and adventure, I got three different flavors that you don't see a lot in other ice cream places - Ginger, Orange, and Mastic (I had to Google this one lol). I don't know if I didn't order the right flavors, or if I had too high of expectations, but I was not impressed by these flavors. The best word I could use to describe them is... interesting! I was underwhelmed by the depth / intensity of the flavors. I was hoping for stronger tastes/scents of the flavor elements. I honestly didn't know what to expect at all for the mastic flavor, surprisingly it's the one I liked the best out of the three. It tasted herbal-y in a good way and was refreshing.

Long awaited and we'll worth waiting for. My friends and I were introduced to Il Laboratorio through his restaurant in the Village. We are so happy to welcome this place in our backyard. They never disappoint. Many great flavors, friendly staff are what kept us going to this place in NYC. Now there's another reason not to take the Path in. Yay!

The ice cream here is one of the BEST i've ever had. I wish I can leave a 5 star review, but the customer service is one of the worst. I've been here twice. First time I was here, i asked about flavors. I asked, "what does the Turkish Fig taste like?" and the guy says... "uhh.... i dont know. Turkish fig." Wow. Just wow. Okay so i went with a flavor that I couldn't go wrong with. And it tasted great. Second time here, the same guy was here. Also standing there with a bad attitude. Problem is, he is the only one with the attitude while everyone else was helpful. Is he the manager? Or does he get special treatment because he is the boss's friend? I will still come here for the amazing ice cream, just hopefully I don't encounter such bad service in the future.

Ice cream and gelato is great and the girls working there are sweet--however this is the second time I've come here in a couple of weeks and there is no soap available in the bathroom. I carry around soap sheets, just in case-- but how do the counter girls wash their hands--hopefully there is a separate employee bathroom. Edit** with soap!!! I asked them about it and they were like "we know" but didn't say anything else...it's not their fault. But the owner/manager should be making sure that there is soap available at a food establishment.

Best Gelato Ever! Their dark chocolate is worth every calorie! Love how they keep experimenting with flavors and come up with interesting combinations. Also love the maple and walnut as well as honey lavender! Look no further.

decent gelato destination in Hoboken and east village with variety of innovative tastes

Disappointing that this place has already gone downhill and it's only been open a few weeks! Went there last night and almost all flavors were empty / looked very picked over and unappetizing. Asked if they had CHOCOLATE (nothing crazy) and they acted like they were doing me a huge favor by checking in the back. They did have it, it was good but tasted more like ice cream than gelato.

Came here today to get ice cream I tasted a few different flavors I ended liking the salted caramel. Quiet good at first. I get two scoops after two more bites there was no more caramel. Just SALT. I went back in to tell the girl it wasn't edible. She said okay and charged me a new one as she saw me throw the other one out I asked for the manger and she said manger isn't here can't help you as she went to the next guest TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

I can't comment much on the flavors...but I would like to make a comment about their customer service. It was approaching their closing time and there was only one customer in there. I went in with my husband and we decided to hold our Maltese dog. As we walked in, there was a female staff member saying to one of her colleagues (loud enough where I could hear her) saying "Tell her only service dogs are allowed". Yes, in fact I checked afterwards and there was a sign outside saying no pets allowed but I think I didn't mind her enforcing the company policy but not saying it in such a rude and obnoxious tone. I didn't bring my wallet so I was just planning to choose my flavor and I'll leave my dog as my husband pays. I just told her "Let me choose my flavor and I'll go". She gave me the most obnoxious and arrogant stare. At that pointed, I literally just stormed out. I think it is not wrong that you enforce your company policy and tell me politely that they don't allow pets in there. I would've apologetically left with my dog, but don't be rude to your customers. Totally unnecessary.

Hate that I need to leave this review as me and my husband really love Il Laboratorio(we lived across the one on Ludlow for years) but this place is lacking management and is just always such a mess when we go in. This is the 3rd time I've gone in and it's been around 5 or 6pm and HALF or more than half the flavors are gone and they don't close until 10 or 10:30pm which is so confusing to me that they don't plan to restock for the rest of the day. Not only that but some of their young staff just don't seem to know what their doing and I never see any sort of management in store. I asked the girl to give me the last scoop of a flavor they had and she said oh no I can't do that- took it out and threw it out. Sometimes most of it is melting. I'm surprised being that it's so new they aren't on point. Disappointing

Very strangely, some of the gelato was served half melted. I'm not sure if that section of the freezer was having issues or what, but it was too warm for my preference. The gelato that was solid had okay texture, but the flavor was pretty mild, mostly it was just sweet. Pass.

i love the cheese flavors here! they let us try the flavors and creme fraiche and marscapone and the fig one were definitely hitting :)

I would have to agree with both positive and negative reviews about this place. The ice cream I have bought has been delicious but the policies of the establishment and the lack of adult supervision make this place a very poorly run establishment. If you have very strange flavors but you don't allow people to try them without paying very high prices per scoop, you run out of basic flavors. I tried to purchase a 2 scoop of dark chocolate at 3pm and I got mostly chocolate soup. The kids who work there seem mostly nice but there needs to be more intelligence behind the functioning of a high end place of business. Limit the number of tries but allow people to experience weird flavors before you expect them to order them. Otherwise make sure you have PLENTY of ordinary flavors available. You should NEVER run out of all chocolate!

Great new gelato place in Hoboken. I know there is one of these in the city and I always passed by it but never went in. The flavors are really interesting and unique, but also not overly favored (in a good way). Even the weird flavors are subtle and really refreshing.

I've been a couple times in the past month, great unexpected flavors. Nice girls working, and tried samples of a few amazing flavors. I love the sorbets as they are so flavorful and refreshing. I loved the malted milk chocolate and some others. Very clean inside.

I asked them if they had pistachio the girl said no. Right after I checked out I hear her go "I think I'm gunna bring out the pistachio" to her coworker. And the prices are ridiculous

Good luck staying in the business with this customer service. The lady who served us yesterday was very annoyed. She would stare and sigh when I names the flavors, and when I named 2 flavors "too fast" for her, she stopped, rolled her eyes, (reminded me of my child's mini-tantrum) and said "what?? I'm sooo confused!!" Flavors were good thou.

Ok gelato. Nothing to rave about. What makes matters worse is terrible service. 1 person only working in the shop on a busy weekend. Took about 40 minutes of waiting in line only to he disappointed by intensity of flavors. Lots of options half melted. Bathroom is filthy. Won't be back even if no line.

il laboratorio del gelato is the most natural and tasty gelato you can ever get, I highly recommend it. Especially Turkish fig and hazelnut is amazing. Hoboken needed this kinda deliciousness long time ago.

I'm so glad that il laboratorio del gelato opened in Hoboken! This is prob my fav gelato place in NYC. I cannot comment on all flavors, but I usually get the traditional ones like fior di latte, zabaglione, pistacchio, vaniglia etc, and the taste and texture of them are closest to the amazing gelato I had in Italy. Finally a great gelato place in Hoboken!
