"Indika, an innovative Indian restaurant, has been a neighborhood fixture since 2001. Founded by chef Anita Jaisinghani, it was sold in 2017 and later bought by Mickey Kapoor in 2018. The restaurant faced a turbulent year and was set to transition to serve Uzbek-inspired food, but the plans were reversed. Currently, the building is up for sale due to the pandemic, and it remains uncertain if Indika will reopen." - Brittanie Shey

"Indika, a Montrose Indian mainstay, will remain open. News had broken that the restaurant would close after 18 years, but owner Mickey Kapoor decided against it. Initially, Kapoor planned to transform the restaurant with a meat-heavy menu inspired by the Silk Road, but the complexities of changing its name and obtaining new permits led to a change of heart. Instead, he plans to open the new project, called Bukhara, elsewhere, while keeping Indika's beloved dishes on the menu, along with some from the Bukhara concept." - Adele Chapin

Great toned down version of Indian food. We had the tandoori chicken sandwich and pulled pork sandwich. Both were good but the chicken was way better in our opinion. The kids split the chicken 25. It was quite delicious. They gave us cardimum cookies for dessert too!

Tried this place for lunch as a part of the Houston Restaurant Week (HRW). My wife and I had a 3-course meal. The portions were reasonable, however taste wise I didn't find anything special. I tried the corn chaat which was good, the lamb biriyani which was flavorful, the dessert chickoo ice cream was so-so. My wife tried the apricot naan (which was so-so), chicken tikka masala which was good, the bread pudding was disappointing. Also thought the vallet parking was unnecessary!

Great decor, lovely patio, and AWESOME drinks. The food is plated well and tasted amazing. So many tasty options but not so many that you have a nervous breakdown. The menu items are gourmet authentic and served hot. Being an Indian restaurant, spice is common place. Which is done with great balance and delivered very well. The ice creams, their names escape me, but the flavor does not! You have to try them unless you have a nut allergy. In that case, keep your epi pen in your non eating hand. Ask for Jefferson, he is a phenomenal waiter. I had the crab samosa and fish steamed in banana leaf. 👍🏾👍🏾

This is my first visit to an authentic Indian restaurant here in Houston. The interior and its surroundings is very upscale and so as the price. We ordered crab samosas, patra fish, and goat masala. While waiting for more than 20 mins for our main dishes to arrive, we were served with some free appetizer. I really love most of the dishes except patra fish which I think is too mild. I would say this restaurant style is more towards Northern Indian style. If you want something spicy, just inform them at the time when you are ordering to avoid disappointment. Indian Mysore Harley tea is nice ending for the meal. And yes, we got free cookies again! I'm a happy girl :)

The place was decent. Nice seating space. Food was below average. Food here is severely over priced. The chicken looked & tasted like it was those that came out of a frozen bag. Our waiter was nice, but kept forgetting our food and what we ordered. Food took forever to get to the table. The only good thing about this place was the drinks. They were amazing. The chocolate bread pudding wasn't all that great either. Super small portions for a hefty price.

I have never been disappointed with a visit to Indika. I usually go for lunch, and they have a lunch prix fixe menu that lets you try several things for a reasonable price. Everything I have tried has been delicious - intensely flavorful and oh so delicious. Highly recommended.

First of all the service on a recent visit was.excellent and the only reason for a star or two. It is terrible how a place that I loved has now gone tremendously downhill since was last visit a few years ago. The samosas were woefully underseasoned , goat masala really was just left over gravy left from a goat curry and the accompanying bread was made with stale Miller flour. Garlic naan was of the quality that you could get at a gas station. The other thing I noticed was that the owner or head chef was walking around and only talking to people of certain persuasion and no one else. I will be avoiding this till kingdome come.

This is literally the best Indian restaurant in Houston. I eat Indian food every week for the health benefits and every time I go to a new city, I eat at each Indian restaurant to check the quality. After checking out the other restaurants, I have reached the decision that this restaurant is the best in town. The food is extremely high quality, and the food is never reused the next day for brunch. They have an amazing brunch special every day except for Monday and Saturday. The brunch is spectacular with many choices. The food itself is delicious and the staff is wonderful and caring. The owner comes and checks on everyone to make sure they are happy. In addition, the food is fresh and amazing. It is easy to tell when restaurants use low quality food, which this place does not; it is simply the best. I tell all my friends about this place. It is in my top 10 best restaurants in Houston and Montrose for sure. The Chia tea is a must and is made from scratch. If you want authentic, must eat restaurant in Houston, this is your destination.
