Where To Eat And Drink In Dorchester - Boston - The Infatuation

"Living near Irie Jamaican Style Restaurant, a counter-service spot in Ashmont with reggae you can hear down the block, would be both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, you’d cut your dining bill in half by stopping at this shockingly affordable Jamaican spot at least three times a week. On the other hand, you’d slowly lose your already tenuous grip on your sanity trying to decide whether the jerk chicken or stewed chicken is the best thing on the menu. It’s a risk worth taking." - dan secatore

Where To Eat For Really, Really Cheap In Boston - Boston - The Infatuation

"A $10 “medium” will cover you for two or three meals at this counter-service Jamaican spot in Dorchester. The stewed chicken is one of our favorite chicken dishes in the city, and it’ll fill you up at dinner and again for whatever that meal is when it’s 11:30pm, you’re watching Top Gun on CMT, and you just realized you had a little bit more to drink than you thought, and now you need to preemptively fight a hangover with water and whatever’s in your fridge." - dan secatore

Irie Jamaican Style Restaurant - Review - Dorchester - Boston - The Infatuation

"You might need to shout over blasting reggae music to order at this small counter-service spot in Ashmont, but don’t let that stop you. The oxtail is tender and perfectly fatty, the jerk chicken is legitimately spicy and robust, and the stewed chicken would be an annual contender in the Boston ChickenFest that doesn’t exist but definitely should." - Dan Secatore

Fields Corner Will Get a New Restaurant With a Mission | Eater Boston

"A community-minded restaurant run by chef Anthony Caldwell, a Dorchester native, is raising funds to open in Dorchester’s Fields Corner after operating as a private chef and catering business under the slogan “beautiful food for beautiful people.” The planned menu emphasizes Southern American fare—fried pickles, wings, chicken and waffles, burgers, vegetarian sliders and other sandwiches—while also incorporating some Asian-influenced dishes. The venture aims to hire local residents, provide leftover food to nearby shelters, and deliver youth mentorship through a partnership with the Helen Y. Davis Leadership Academy to teach children basic restaurant operations; Caldwell is continuing catering and private-chef services from 1450 Dorchester Ave while running an Indiegogo campaign to finance the transition to a full restaurant." - Dana Hatic

This place is extremely expensive and they have 3 year old prices posted in the restaurant that they will not honor and they refuse to take the old prices down. A plate of jerk chicken was $25 and the oxtail was $30. This is obscene pricing. But fine. The jerk chicken was completely dried out and inedible. I ate half a piece and threw out the rest. The oxtail was good, but they gave very little. There was 2 big pieces and some fragment bits. For $30, it's a complete rip off. The older lady who works there is very rude and unpleasant. Overall a terrible experience.

I recently got take out 3 weeks ago that was absolutely amazing! A side of Mac and cheese, small jerk chicken, and an oxtail plate. Food was immaculate. Today not so much. I ordered two jerk chicken boxes and another side of Mac anc cheese. I received old Mac and cheese after inquiring if any thing fresh was coming out and told yes. I sat and waited the 10 minutes only to be served the last piece that was sitting out that I explicitly said I did not want. When inquiring, I was lied repeatedly in my face and then when I asked for my money for that item back, he pulled out 3 dollars out of his tip jar to toss at me. Ultimately another worker (owner? Manager? Stepped in and said to get me a new serving. The original rude worker then came back and opened it and said is this ok? I took it but to be honest, I didn’t even want it anymore. Well guess what - ice cold. Video for reference. I may go there again but I’ll go around the time I went originally. They have one more bad experience out of me before I call it quits. Mind you it was a reminder why I stopped going back when they were located on Bowdoin. This guy was trash and so was today’s food.

The woman who works the counter is excellent, pleasant and spiritual. Regarding the food, I had the goat and unfortunately it is a bit bland seasoning wise, the curry is definitely present, however the actual goat seasoning is lacking. I will still come back due to the service....if you know...you know regarding West Indian restaurants...lol

Google
Got a Too Good to Go order that had rice, boiled carrot and cabbage, and chicken. The chicken (dry) and cabbage is fine but the undercooked rice made it 2 stars. It really hurt my molars when i bit into it, with literal crunching sounds. When I split a grain it was stark clear on the inside, indicating improper steaming and insufficient water. Unfortunate because rice made up half the meal, I had to make my own rice to eat with the chicken...

I smelled the food from down the street during an interview. I followed my nose until I found the source. I ordered a medium jerk chicken rasta pasta with a side of beans and rice with ox tail sauce. I devoured it in my car, down the street. It was delicious. So, so good. The heat was a little mild for me, but perfect for your average eater, and it was still sooooo full of flavor. The only thing that was missing was watermelon water. MmmmmmMMM.

Google
I stopped in looking for a beef patty and left with fried shrimp instead. I ate the shrimp a little late so it was a bit cold but let me just say, the flavor and crisp was top tier. I can only imagine if it was hot. I look forward to returning and experimenting their other menu items. The service was great also, shout out to Dave!

Yelp
Two medium entrees and side order of Mac and cheese came out to be $42. I believe this is reasonable heading into 2025 lol for goat and oxtails, it's not bad. I can see why the reviews are mainly bad regarding portion size. It could be a little better but quality definitely still there. It's amazing.

Yelp
The curry goat was nice and tender however, I'm thinking how long it's been stewing. The is old and it tastes old. I'm not very satisfied at this point. Super salty. I'm hoping no one with high blood pressure has this meal. It's pretty sad, I used to really like this place.

Yelp
We got some delicious takeout. Made ourselves very happy eating goat curry, jerk chicken, rice and beans. So much to enjoy!

Yelp
Been meaning to check this spot out in the heart of fields corner, and I regret not coming here sooner! It's more of a takeout restaurant with 4-5 tables, not suited for big groups. There are a lot of items on the menu, but pay attention because some items are only available specific days! I love oxtail and goat curry and I couldn't decide so I went the safe route with the oxtail. The oxtail was solid. Tender but not too sweet and a good portion for their medium size entree. It comes with some cabbage and rice and beans which were also good although some plantains would've hit the spot and completed the dish. The oxtail was so good, wifey took it from me and I ate her jerk chicken plate. The jerk chicken plate was good but if you can't handle heat, I'd avoid it because it was spicier than the normal jerk chicken. Next time I'll get the curry goat and report back!

Yelp
Decent food, not crave worthy. Rice definitely needed the gravy, wish there was more. Cabbage was overcooked and bland. Chicken was too oily and a bit too salty although was very flavorful. I guess each component balanced each other out.

Yelp
Yelp Ladies and Yelp Gentlemen! Let me tell you all about this little slice of Jamaican heaven called Irie, or as I like to call it, "Jamaican Bliss." I mean, you really feel like you're in Jamaica here folks. The immersion is spectacular! I went to Montego Bay for three weeks one summer and I must say, this place truly captures the sultry effervescence of the Caribbean. An old fart like me can really feel at home here. But you know what they say, "the older the moon, the brighter it shines." Ya Mon, and I don mean to be a blabba mout. Sake a mout fish get katch. Irie is truly Irie. It's the bees knees. The cat's pajamas. The real deal. If only this place wasn't in the warzones of Dorchester. I'd rather not feel like a soldier storming the beaches of Normandy during Operation Overlord, seeing my comrades fall before me, their life flashing before my very eyes, every time I get the hankering for some oxtail. It's rather not Irie. But as they say, if a dirt a dirt.

Yelp
I Absolutely LOVEE their fried seafood the seasons are there along with the crisp of the chicken they fry back there and shout out the cashier lady she's very helpful and informative about what to eat it's a nice little vibe 10/10

Yelp
4!!! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, 4 pieces of oxtail comes with a large order. I don't understand what is going in this place, but I have never felt so ripped off! I don't know if it's because I ordered delivery and there was no face to face accountability, but to pay $20 a plate and get 4 pieces of oxtail is just down right wrong. First and last time ordering from Irie. Message to Irie: Please understand that your competition's plates are large enough to feed two people.

Yelp
Oxtail dinner is almost $20. The rice tastes like old rice or leftover rice. Top it off, they only give 3 small flat Oxtail with no meat. Do not eat from there. They use too much salt in their food, and their food is dried out. Irie, Please do better for you. This is a new locale.

Yelp
Food was BOMB. Prices were reasonable and I can't wait to come back. I got the Jerk chicken entree with rice and peas, jerk mac and cheese, and a beef patty. Everything was so good and the portions were healthy, I did not finish my plate and can't wait to finish it for dinner. The jerk chicken has a perfect spiciness to it. The best part was the wonderful lady making the plates and taking orders. It was busy but she handled the customers as well as courier drivers well. We didn't wait that long for the food but we had a lot of time on our hands anyway. There's limited seating in here but we had a nice booth to ourselves. Lots of variety in the menu as well. I wanna try the oxtail pasta next
