Writing a review more so to let people know about the horrific customer service rather than the coffee. I'd give the latte an A. Customer service gets an F.
Let me start by saying I worked at a coffee shop for a year and a half, so I understand how stressful it can be working in food service. And this was not one of those moments where I can give a pass for poor service.
I walked in and no one was in line, and no one was behind the counter. I stood there for probably close to a minute, looking around, wondering where the employees were. I was in something of a rush, and was pleased I would most likely be able to get in and out quickly given there was no one in line and no one waiting on drinks.
Finally, just as I was about to leave, two employees came out of the back. One of them didn't seem to be doing much. The other approached the register and stared at me. No apology for making me wait, not asking what I would like to order. He just stood there and stared at me until I ordered my drink.
At this point, a small rush had come in and there were four or five people in line behind me. After taking my order, I assumed maybe the other employee would help run the register while her coworker made the drinks. She left him on his own, and he decided to take the orders of everyone in line behind me before making anything, thus delaying me further. I didn't think it was ridiculous to ask to be in and out in five minutes, given there were no outstanding tickets and no one waiting to order before me. But apparently that was too much to ask. It took nearly 10 minutes for me to get out of there.
The barista then pulled my shot and dumped it into the cup and decided to prep the drink of the person behind me before completing mine, despite me being first in line. He then haphazardly dumped the steamed milk into the cup, without any attempt at latte art. While I might expect that at Starbucks or Dunkin, I have higher expectations of a specialty coffee shop. The art doesn't have to be perfect, or even all that good, but I appreciate an attempt. And no attempt was made.
The entire experience was ridiculous from start to finish. This is the second time in the past week I've been here and had a subpar experience. The coffee itself was great (not the case last time I was here), but the customer service was truly atrocious. I've had my day entirely turned around by a friendly barista who provides exemplary customer service. This time, my day was made worse by someone who clearly didn't care about the customer's experience. I will be avoiding this place in the future.
