Yelp
Island Way Grill came highly recommended by someone who has enjoyed pleasant experiences with other groups and spoke highly of the food. Unfortunately, our visit was anything but pleasant, thanks to a series of issues that left us utterly disappointed.
The service began poorly, with only two waters brought for our party of three. Drinks and appetizers were ordered well before the main courses, but everything arrived at the same time, a complete disruption to the dining flow.
The food and drinks fell far short of expectations:
* The $50 sushi boat, $22 sashimi and $9 lobster bisque were lukewarm, unacceptable for dishes that rely on freshness.
* The seaweed salad never arrived and remained on the final bill despite our request for its cancellation.
* The edamame was clearly steamed from frozen, lacking any semblance of quality.
* The espresso martini tasted dirty, as if shaken in an unclean tin.
* The spicy margarita sat neglected at the bar and was only served long after we reminded Gertrude--or was it Gilbert, Geraldine, or Garfield? Whatever name fits, it didn't seem to matter to them.
Adding insult to injury, we were lied to about the propane heater being turned on. Our server never bothered to check on it, leaving us to shiver unnecessarily, until another employee--someone far more attentive--stepped in to address it. This happened as we waited for Gareth to finally complete the bill, dragging out an already frustrating experience.
No apologies were offered for any of these mishaps, and the server's attitude could best be described as disinterested, inattentive, and unapologetic. It was abundantly clear that they were simply going through the motions without any care for their guests.
More should be expected from a meal that cost nearly $200. (Not to mention, our 10% tip was a generosity - border line charity work.)
While the food was mostly enjoyable, the egregious lack of service overshadowed it.
We may return for the food alone, but under no circumstances will we ever accept being served by Garrett--or was it Gavin?
