The Best Restaurants On First Hill - Seattle - The Infatuation

"The pizzas here are huge and heavy on the red sauce in a good way, but if you’re only going to order one pie—make it the white pizza with globs of ricotta. They don’t sell slices, but will do a personal pizza if you stop by for a solo lunch. Regardless, you should probably end things with a cannoli. You don’t leave an Italian family’s house without a cannoli." - aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley

Where To Eat Near Seattle University

"The pizzas here are huge and heavily red-sauced. The crust is pretty close to what you’d find in New York (we like to order ours well-done), and the white pizza with globs of ricotta is delicious. Bring some hungry people with you, though—they don’t sell slices." - aimee rizzo

Best Leftover Dishes from Seattle Restaurants | Eater Seattle

"Tucked away in plain sight at the busy intersection of Boren and Madison on First Hill is this family-run pizza parlor. Everything is made fresh daily at this affordable gem, and the restaurant boasts that its sauce is an over 100 year-old secret recipe left behind by a grandmother. Perhaps its those multi-generational roots that make he lasagna, strombolis, calzones, and pies so delectable." - Jenise Silva

Google
Ordered a Calzone, completely degusting. Undercooked. Aa a meat, it has just three random pieces of salami on each side, stacked, not separated, just three slices of salami in the center. It seems like they do not know how to make calzones. Sauce was overwhelming garlic. Nothing redeemable at all.

I honestly can’t complain when they offer a lunch special of $9.99 (only available to go) for a slice of pizza larger than my hand, plus a soda on tap. While the pizza appeared fresh, the employee warmed it up in a toaster oven which was a nice touch. The sauce to cheese ratio was perfect, and the crust perfectly chewy. I will definitely be back for an affordable, quick bite. Nothing to call home about yet enjoyable and filling.

Google
We ordered lasagna and garlic knots. The food arrived hot and quickly, but the taste was underwhelming—I'd rate it 3/5. The lasagna was far from the best I've had, and the garlic knots had an overpowering raw garlic flavor that I wouldn't recommend. As for the ambience, the serviettes had an unpleasant smell, and the lasagna was served in a 7'' aluminum tray on plastic plates, which raised concerns about the quality of the ingredients and their storage. There was also an overall bad odor in the restaurant. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning.

Google
Pizza is terrible. Caked powder underneath. Dough is thick and tasteless. Low budget cheese. Lumpy sauce. Maybe this is how it's made in Brooklyn, Ohio. They heated my slice in a Ninja air fryer. They also have ants. Better pizza at 7-11.

Google
Service was the WORST! Ordered for pickup and gave specific toppings orders for the pizza and the lady even told me that it would be ready in 15 mins. My husband goes to pick it up at exactly 15 mins and the same lady tells her that they haven't even put the order in and they thought I called to ask about putting the order in through the delivery app??!! Not once did I ever use the words "delivery" or "app" ....please hire more competent people who can take orders over the phone when people call. Place wasn't even busy and the front girl was hunched over on her phone when I came in. This place is going downhill, pizza is mid at best. Never coming again, will order through the APP for another spot next time. Not worth the wait or hassle!

Google
I like the pizza it was very tasty but they didn’t have pineapple 🍍 ❔🤨. So I got a 🍕 pepperoni with cheese and I’m always in a hurry so I called asked how long he said 7 min so I walked there and it was more like 14 min but that was ok cause the place is pretty cool they got some cool things on the wall, it looks like they also serve drinks or cocktails but I was on the way to St James so didn’t ask about it! All in all it was about Middle of the Road. Oh also got a small pizza but that was more than I could eat alone! I think it could feed 2 no problem unless you’re a competitor eater! It comes out hot so take a blow before you bite! Thanks again homie! 🍕

Google
This place is amazing! The lasagna was delicious, salad was yummy. The white pie pizza was amazing!! If i could i would give it 10 star's. The servers were amazing. Really nice young gentlemen!

Google
Really good pizza. Best New York style pizza in Seattle area, best you'll find besides Brooklyn Bros in Everett. In New York this pizza would get 3 stars, but it's the best you'll find here. Delicious, chewy thin crust, a little greasy (tons of grease on the bottom of the crust though... weird), tomato sauce was good. Pizza char was not done right. Pizza from here is best eaten right away, if you wait longer than 15-20 minutes throw it in the toaster oven for a few minutes at 500 degrees. Order the large (24"), not the small (12"). It's worth it. They serve cannoli's, it was on point and so delicious! Didn't have to wait longer than they estimated but I also ordered my pizza at 3pm on a Monday when they're not busy. Area is a little sketch. Hard to find free parking. Paid parking lot just behind the restaurant.

Yelp
I love places that do shit like this, giantic pizza, it automatically puts a smile on everybody's face, even if you step in dog's shit and got a mail from the IRS that day, giantic pizza it is to cheer you up. A friend bought it to a Friendsgiving, a slice will probably be enough for a meal, share one if you're not trying to get full of just pizza at a potluck. Pizza was solid, taste freshly made, not frozen dough like the chains. I don't think they do deliverys, if they do, I'd feel bad for the pizza delivery person having to fit that giant box in their car. Tell me about your experience if you've been here or is going to after reading this review:)

Yelp
Picture this: I'm pregnant at the hospital and baby will be here any day. Husband offers to go get dinner and all I want is pizza. He goes to this pizza place while I fantasize about my well deserved comfort food. He walks back into our hospital room and I start CACKLING at the size of this pizza. Its the biggest pizza box I've ever seen. It practically has its own zip code. We dive into it and realize there is very little sauce and the pizza is dry. Sauce makes or breaks a pizza in my opinion. Dryness absolutely breaks a pizza. If this shop is trying to take a stab at pizza jerky they did a great job but that's not what the menu said and that's why this review is a negative one. Ending up tossing the pizza out after a few bites. Being generous with the extra star because of how hard I laughed at how big the box was for just us! Quality over quantity folks!
google avatar

Yelp
Big pizza with just a swirl of tasteless sauce. The crust is floury and bland Pizza is big but very dry. Wouldn't buy again and I doubt it's an Italian family making this

Yelp
Was so looking forward to going back to this restaurant. Every time I had a doctor appt while pregnant I made sure to grab a slice. The day I gave birth I asked my husband to grab some pizza. We haven't made it back in a year or two since I changed my doctor. We were both very disappointed by the lack of flavor and clear cost saving downgrades made. We won't make the trip next time. I should note the person helping us was super nice.

Yelp
Heard so many great things about this place over the years from friends and co-workers. The lack of easy parking in a downtown location was a huge deterrent, so it took a long time to finally try it. When I saw that delivery was available through Door Dash, finally decided to give it a try. I have to say it was a huge let-down. It was just meh pizza. Reminiscent of Zeeks or some other generic pizza joint. The crust was way too thick on the bottom and on the edge. The outer edge crust on the top (the butt end) was about an inch wide, leaving less room for toppings. Definitely not NY style. Did they change owners??
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered large pizzas and garlic knits for our student group. Both were delicious and the students loved the huge pizzas. Did not visit the restaurant and ordered through their preferred app (Slice) so I cannot speak to the service or atmosphere of the restaurant, but we will definitely try it again. I will note that the app did a great job of tracking and updating the status of our order.

Yelp
This is a nice family owned business and restaurant. I like their pizza crust and they have a good amount of toppings.

Danny S.

Yelp
The pizza was ok. I asked for extra sauce for the cheese pizza and it still didn't seem like much. Since I asked for extra sauce it makes me wonder how the pizza would've been if I didn't say that. I definitely would've been terrible if it was less than what was on there.
google avatar

Brent M.

Yelp
Are your taste buds shot? Did you suffer taste complications from COVID? Then this place is for you. Honestly was not expecting much since I just stoped by for a quick-bite after a doctor appt. But I can say this is the worst pizza I've had in Seattle. 0 effort from staff too; slices were still cold (and lifeless) when I got them. They'd come out hotter if they microwaved them than using their pizza oven. I'd rather get dominos or a frozen pizza from the grocery store than go back here.

Yelp
Me and my friend came hungry, and we sat on a couch. It was pretty empty besides 2 other tables. I got a cheese pizza with sausage, my friend got the cheese pizza with pepperoni. I was very pleased with the portion size, it was bigger than I expected. The glutton in me finished the pizza anyways haha, it was crispy and yummy! But what really shone to me was that on the table where we sat on the couch, there was a cute game box. The game box was small but is packed with many games: cards, checkers, chess, mandala, chutes and ladders, and more. After eating me and my friend stayed back to just play games and we had fun! The games were a very nice surprise :) Will come back!!! I want to try the other food too! Thank you so much!!

Yelp
It was my first time trying this pizza joint, and it was one of my favorite experiences since moving to Seattle. I ordered the White Pie w/extra garlic, and while I waited, I had a fun conversation with the gentleman working the front & the gentleman making my pie while it baked. Chatting about our collective love for food and then having a tasty pie once I got home made my day. Thank you!
google avatar

Marco C.

Yelp
I am pleased to report that this place is the real deal. A good crispy crust, quality cheese, *and* they offer garlic knots (which are super legit), calzones, and cannoli. I believe I have found my pizza destination when I'm in Seattle, and Italian Family is it.

Yelp
I had a pleasant experience at Italian Family Pizza the other day. I ordered a small meatball pizza to go, added onions and mushrooms and it took about 25 minutes. You can see the woman making the pizzas right behind the counter and everyone is very nice. The pizza was so yummy with the perfect thin crust crunch. However, it dies get soft if you don't eat it right away. They also provide fresh grated Parmesan.

Yelp
closing at 8:30pm is SO stupid. some people work later than normal and want to get a pizza close to home. You're screwing all of us over that want to come in and get food at (a reasonable time) and you guys are losing revenue. Just know if you have a "late night" craving that exists past 8:30pm you're going to be turned away.
google avatar

Yelp
It's all about the gravy. Dats how dey say it in Philly. Their sauce is unbelievably tasty and zesty. Rumor has it the recipe is from the original owners Steve's grandma.

Tod S.

Yelp
Stay away from this place. They are so cheap and when I added extra cheese and extra sauce, they actually put less on it, and I literally went into the restaurant to complain to make it right and they never did and they said it was all my fault stay away from this place like the plague! You don't get what you pay for all!

Yelp
After a medical appointment in the neighborhood, stopped by and ordered a small cheese pizza. When trying a new pizza/Italian spot, I like to see how well they can do the basics. The pizza was very good and really enjoyed the fresh tomato sauce and soft, yet crispy crust. It reminds me of NYC-style pizza, though with a slightly thicker crust that's fine by me! Along with the pie, got 2 cups of Parmesan cheese and took the liberty of sprinkling on top the usual suspects (red pepper flakes, oregano, black pepper). The pizza really left an impression on me, especially the sauce. Fans of Rao's pasta sauce would definitely appreciate the style of sauce used here. Great pizza and looking forward to trying other stuff on the menu. A solid spot. And be sure to hold your slice the right way, by folding it!
google avatar

james t.

Yelp
There was nothing wrong with the service, the atmosphere was adequate and pretty much what you would expect from a family pizza spot. The food was terrible, as far as pizza goes there was practically no sauce, the ingredients weren't fresh and the flavor of the pie itself was extremely bland. Nothing against this spot personally I just truly feel like you could get better pizza almost anywhere else

Yelp
Was in town at Virginia mason hospital and after a long day of testing, walked 2 blocks to this little gem. One on the best pizza this New Yorker has ever tasted...IT'S...LA-GITT! Try the white pizza of the combo! Finished it off with a few homemade cannoli's and we were happy campers! Will be back for sure!!

Yelp
Good pizza, Friendly service. Visited here with my son, split this pizza and knots and still brought home leftovers

Yelp
TLDR: Huge pizzas give good value, but their topping game really needs some improvement. I came to Italian Family Pizza for dinner with a party of 6 to grab some pizza for takeout. The restaurant looked pretty drab inside, and was fairly empty. The restaurant seemed pretty clean though, so that's a plus. We ended up ordering a large New Yorker, and a Small italiano. My first impression was the massive size of the pizza. The large was ABSOLUTELY MASSIVE. I'm talking giant sized, the kind you would feed to a competitive eater or a dinosaur if they were alive. Our party of 6 BARELY finished the whole thing, and that was only because one of us was so hungry they ate half of the large on their own. Aside from the gigantic size of the pizza, the flavor was pretty mediocre. The italiano was way too salty, and all I could really taste was the salami. The New Yorker was the polar opposite, as the pizza was super sparsely covered, making it so you would only really eat a piece of feta every third bite, and a splash of tomato sauce every fourth bite, and maybe a piece of sausage once every fifth bite. Don't get me wrong, the pizza was still pretty tasty, but I think some more even topping distribution would help out massively. The crust was also quite large, which I'm not a fan of but I know some people love their crust. Overall, the food was pretty memorable due to the shock factor of the huge size, but was otherwise pretty mediocre.

Yelp
This has been our favorite local pizza spot for some time. It's changed ownership at least once - and it remained mostly intact. Unfortunately, we've had bad luck with delivery as of late (3x). Today it was a calzone with no marinara sauce when I paid extra for two. I love your food guys, please tighten things back up.

Cyb3r L.

Yelp
The food was great. The white cheese pizza was my favorite and we ate it at the hotel pool. I wouldn't know about the service or ambiance because we got delivery, but the pizza was an extra 15$ for delivery. Very good though.

Yelp
This place have been on my list forever but I'm always hesitant to go because the pizza here is soooo big. One of our friends wanted pizza and there was about 10 of us so we decided to order here. My friend didn't believe me when I said the pizza here was big, so he originally was going to order 2 large, but I managed to convince him to grab 1 large and 2 small instead. We got the cheese pizza, pepperoni pizza, and the margeritta pizza. The pizza was delicious, each one was distinct in flavor. I definitely like the crust on the large pizza, very doughy and thick. I also love how irregular the slices are cut. Not only are the pizza good but it is an attraction on its own. I'm already looking at events that I can order more pizza from here

Mr. M.

Yelp
Pizzas kinda pricey and very light on the ingredients. Did not feel like it was all it was worked up to be. Service was there not rude but not friendly.
google avatar

Lorna M.

Yelp
Food is just ok, they forgot my drink they said they will just give a credit for my drink. Bad service I'm staying in the hotel eating without a drink and even forgot to put utensils. I won't use them again when I get back to Seattle
google avatar

Taylor D.

Yelp
Was skeptical, I'm picky. I went in for a slice, unaware it wasn't served past 4. Ended up with a small meatball and asked for it a little well done and it came out a little well done. It wasn't super doughy, it tasted fresh, you could hear them talking about fresh stuff in the back. It was a cozy place and I really liked the pizza, next time I'll try their lemonade. Seem like a good place Also. Went on my lunch, time crunch. In and out in twenty minutes. I'm happy.

Yelp
Delicious fresh made pizza! Love the sausage on the New Yorker pizza and the peppers have just the right amount of heat. Saturday afternoon was surprisingly empty so it was nice having quiet. Service was prompt and courteous.

Jenna L.

Yelp
Worst pizza I've ever had. I legitimately wonder if this place is a front. Pizza was undercooked, veggies still raw, just terrible.
google avatar

Susane G.

Yelp
We dined here last night and if you want the best fresh tasting pizza this is the place for you. The food is made to order and all the ingredients are fresh and hand made. The service is A++. The staff is very friendly and they treat you like family as soon as you walk into the door. The pizza slices are so big I could only eat one slice. If you really love pizza this is the place for you. I highly recommend this great place.

Deborah C.

Yelp
The rating for this restaurant is the reason for my decision on this place. The delivery service is messing you up. The straws were put in the drink cups. 3.50 each and it's flat and not labeled? The pizza and salad came with no plate, fork, napkin. Wow. I tipped 20% before hand via the app for this. I feel ripped off. We will eat with our hands and use a bath towel to wipe our lips. Please do choose a different place if you want delivery.

Yelp
In my all-time top 3% of pizzas! That's nearly 40 years of pizza eating including a score of US territories, 3 foreign countries and 2 continents people! The crust is so good I would literally eat it on its own as a plain baked flatbread. Soft, billowy, pulls apart like the gossamer feathers of angel wings! Flavors subtle and fresh. With toppings, the pizza has an excellent chew. Tomato sauce is zesty and bright. Toppings are plentiful and perfectly balanced. They do add large lumps fresh ricotta to some of their pies. I'm not a huge fan usually but I loved it; you can break off the end crust and dip it in ricotta which was a fun way to devour a slice. Pizzas are expensive but GIGANTIC. We plunked down $40 for the biggest pie and got stares all the way back to the hotel. It fed two adults and two young kids dinner and the next day's lunch.

Yelp
I flew in to Seattle to visit family in Harbor View Medical Center and wanted good pizza. I yelped this place, which shows a bunch of good reviews. I did not disappoint. I will say the pizza was brick oven type, thin crust, fresh ingredients, good cheese. The garlic knots were good, lots of butter and fresh garlic. The large pizza is gigantic and the small will be enough for 2 people, or one really hungry person.
google avatar

Tiffany L.

Yelp
Great crust but the pizza was way too greasy and soggy. Good amount of toppings and overall pizza size was great for a small.
google avatar

Michele L.

Yelp
Favorite pizza in Seattle! Don't be fooled by appearances. This place looks pretty common on the outside but inside there is a pizza larger than you waiting inside. Whether I'm picking up or dining in, I usually call 15-20 minutes ahead of time because it takes at least that long to get your pizza. My favorite pizza is The New Yorker - fennel sausage, ricotta, and peppers. It reminds me of some of my favorite pizza places in NYC for sure! The bigger size is better and definitely enough food for 4-8 people to share (or 2-3 meals for the two of us). I've tried the other pizzas which were also delicious but the New Yorker is by far the tastiest. I have never seen this place busy even during busy lunch or dinner hour which is surprising given how amazing this place is.

Yelp
Absolutely Delicious! This is the Deal! Italian Family Pizza is East coast style with thin crust, fresh ingredients, and incredible red sauce. -The pizza: After coming here a few times, there really is no way you can go wrong. Whether just ordering a small for 1 or 2 people, or ordering the very large 23" pizza, any of the options will not disappoint you. Their sauce and their crust really pair well with any of the vegetable or meat toppings. Personal favorite is the new yorker. If you want to try something different, their white pie is sauceless, but comes with 3 different cheeses and you can always add toppings to it as well. -Other menu items: They have one salad, but it is all you need. It comes with a tangy red pepper dressing, and the salad comes fully loaded with olives, cheese, and pepperoncinis. The cannolis are made every day and are too good to come from a pizza place. They also offer pastas, stromboli, and calzones. I have yet to try any of these because the pizzas from this place keep me coming back. -Service: The customer service here is always friendly and your food comes out quickly. They will answer your questions if you have any, and are happy to make recommendations. -Price: For being in downtown Seattle, (well, first hill), these prices are really good. Especially if you go big and get the large pizza, you will get more than pizza to feed 4-5 people for between $30-$40 which is a great deal especially when you consider the quality! Note: they do not deliver, but they do carry out, and there are third parties that can deliver if you so wish. However, it is worth going your first time, sitting down at the red-white checkered tables surrounded by brick for the full experience! Cheers!

Yelp
Sauce is good. Crust is flat. Not enough cheese. Not much else to say. It's very average pizza.

Yelp
I wish I could give IFP a 3.5 star rating.... They're not great, but also not horrible! Our waitress didn't explain that they won't come to your table unless you actively seek them out. But, once you pull up the menu & place an initial order with your phone, she was right there to help! I had lasagna with meatballs (lasagna is vegetarian). I'd give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars. It wasn't fancy - I could really only detect noodles, sauce & cheese. I didn't see any veggies at all and the taste was good, but also a bit bland. They added a decent amount of meatballs for the cost & those were good. Our server was nice, but a not attentive as our group was arriving (IE: we got zero water u til we all arrived as specifically asked for it). On a good note - they let our group hang out as long as we wanted! They closed at 8:30, and we just happened to leave right about that time, but they weren't pushy at all!! So, that was really nice!

Yelp
We had our last meal in Seattle here...we needed something easy and quick and close to the hotel. This one served the bill and had great reviews. Not sure why. The menu is pretty limited. They have a huge pizza and a 12 inch (basically individual) pizza. We ordered a huge pizza with 1/2 cheese and 1/2 pepperoni & mushroom. Myself and one of the kids wanted the rigatoni, however, they ran out. What Italian restaurant runs out of pasta? I don't eat cheese so I ordered the small pizza with mushrooms, sauce and garlic. We also ordered the salad. It has 1 heart of artichoke, a head of lettuce, chopped roasted red pepper, pepperocini peppers and kalamata olives. It was very fresh but only had about 2 tablespoons of dressing provided. After delivering the food our server disappeared, so we lived with the limited dressing. The large pizza looked like it was made from different dough. Everyone liked it. Mine was soggy in the middle so I ate the crust and some of the mushrooms. They were freshly cut. My friend left with the kids to go back to the hotel because it took forever to get the bill. We finally got the bill. We paid and left.

Yelp
Service, service, service! Not very good here, or lack of. Our server sat us, took our order and then ignored us until our food came, and then ignored again after that. Our drinks were never refilled . We ordered a large pizza, a small pizza, and a salad. The salad was nice and fresh, it had romain lettuce, kalamata olives, peperocinies, roasted red peppers, a piece of artichoke and feta cheese. The salad was realitivly, except for the very small amount of dressing that came with it. Server MIA. Then the pizza came out about one minuet after the salad. She brought it and ran away. Was it large! The pizza wasn't bad. It was half cheese and half pepperoni and mushrooms. It wasn't bad, but it sure wasn't as good as the pizza in NY. One note, they have a very limited menu and the only part they have is rigatoni They ran out of rigatoni.

Yelp
My friend bought this pizza for my birthday and it's so delicious!!! It's so huge and it fed like 12 people and we were so full, if you're looking for good Italian pizza then this is your brand! Love love love this brand and the slices are so huge it's picture worthy too! Very quality and quantity at the same time!

Yelp
Italian Family Pizza's New Yorker pizza's savory with a little spice flavor cannot be found anywhere else. The cheese and sausages are perfectly paired with a nice jalepeno kick, For 16$ you are able to get your own personal pie. However if you're having a get together, the 40$ large size is well worth the price. The large size is about 5 times the size of the small. So do what you'd like with this information. The workers are very sweet and attentive. Give them a call beforehand as it might take a little while for the pizza to be ready as they make everything to order!

Yelp
I don't know how I haven't reviewed this place yet. We stopped by here on a whim, and I'm so so glad we did! This is one of my favorite pizza places. The staff was nice, the pizza was GIGANTIC and definitely tasted freshly made (who can beat this crust??), with just the right amount of toppings. Parking in the area was a little tricky, but this place is worth it if you're looking to share a delicious pizza in a casual atmosphere - and maybe a beer to go along with it! Try it for yourself and bring an appetite!

Yelp
Italian Family Pizza, You have a pizza my heart! Moved to Seattle this year and this has been my favorite pizza joint near First Hill. Restaurant: Not offering dine in due to COVID. You can order ahead of time and stop by the restaurant to pick up your pizza. The wait time is around 20-30 minutes. Food: My favorite pizza here is the New Yorker. It has Homemade Cascioppo Brothers Sausage, Whole Cherry Poppers, and topped with Ricotta Cheese on a traditional cheese pizza. The small is $16 and can feed 1-2 people. I usually opt for the small New Yorker for myself and can get 1-2 servings depending on how hungry I am. Tastes great when reheated the next day too.

Add on that meatball folks! One meatball and a glass of Chianti is a perfect afternoon snack.

Yelp
Endless rows of dreamy ricotta cheese and heated jalapeños mingle respectfully on a landscape of pizza dough and sauce. This landscape is particularly vast; by far one of the biggest pies I've had the pleasure of laying eyes upon. Individual slices are equally as vast and beckon to be folded in order to be enjoyed optimally. Italian family pizza has both QUANTITY and QUALITY and surely you can't go wrong by coming here. And stop calling me Shirley.

Yelp
The 23" pizza is laughably large, so watch out! I don't think my husband realized what he ordered. I could barely carry the two pizzas and get them into the car. Not the restaurants fault, but it gave us a good laugh. Pizza is pretty pricey, especially if you add any toppings. By the time we got the pizza home, it was pretty cold and I wasn't impressed. Maybe I would've liked it more if I'd eaten it right away, hot.

Yelp
When I walked in I knew this place was the real deal. Everything was pretty good. We ordered a small pizza, salad, and an order of rigatoni and it was enough to feed 4. The salad comes with their house dressing and it is to die for. That was my favorite part of the meal. I will definitely go back to try the lasagna.
