The 38 Best Restaurants in Mumbai, India | Eater

"Izumi started as a living room-sized joint in the heart of Bandra before evolving into a sophisticated restaurant with a loyal crowd of regulars. Chef Nooresha Kably spent time in Tokyo and Yokohama honing her sushi and ramen skills before delighting patrons in Mumbai longing for Japanese food. Order the chutoro sashimi, tempura shrimp with yuzu mayo roll, and kimchi pork gyoza, and bully your dining companions into splitting a bowl of tonkotsu ramen. Reservations are recommended." - Sumedh Natu

We visited this place and it was extremely crowded, with over an hour-long wait—even though we had a reservation. Thankfully, we managed to get our table in the end. This spot is clearly popular—apparently, even celebrities frequent it! We actually saw two or three familiar TV actors while we were there. We tried a variety of dishes, and overall, the food was good, but the highlight for us was definitely the desserts. Looking forward to going back and trying more from their menu!

This place was on a wish list for a long time and I happen to visit this place for a friends Birthday Dinner. I must say it was our best choice. Attendant serving use was excellent in his service and recommended use some amazing food to go in a food coma. Right from the soup to the dessert we tried berthing thing was back on point. And what beautiful presentation. One must definitely give it a try. I liked the fact that sushi where authentic they worldwide on details. Definitely visiting Izumi Bandra.

I would start by saying, amazing place, great sushi, best and real wasabi. Drinks were also really nice. Bluefin tuna was the winner. Overall everything is amazing. 100% recommended. The only con was there was this group of 4 people from which this one particular lady was super loud. As in literally shouting. Talk about civic sense (non existent). In my opinion the restaurant should ask such people to tone it down maintaining a decorum. But despite complaining twice restaurant did nothing about it. There goes 1 star. I would visit again but if i face similar situation i would want the restaurant to take action. Apart from this it is 100% recommended

Had a great time at Izumi! The food and drinks were absolutely awesome — packed with flavor and beautifully presented. The service was quick and efficient, which made the experience even better. The ambience had a warm, inviting vibe that added to the overall charm of the place. Highly recommend if you're looking for a great spot to unwind and enjoy some delicious Japanese cuisine.

Delightful Experience at Izumi! Finally got to try Izumi in Bandra, and it exceeded expectations! This quaint, soothing spot serves top-notch Japanese cuisine. The food quality is exceptional, with most ingredients imported. We devoured the Norwegian Salmon, Daaki Leke Prawns, Ramen, and Scallop dish - all were outstanding! The Japanese cheesecake with mango was the perfect finale. A must-visit for Japanese food enthusiasts! Izumi's attention to detail and authentic flavors make it a standout. Can't wait to go back!

Sunday lunch was at Izumi, in Bandra. I heard a lot about this place so was in deep anticipation about it. Let me tell you, high expectations were not only met but far exceeded. Note: We don't eat seafood or drink alcohol, and my brother is a vegetarian. But still by far some of the best food I've eaten in Bombay. What we drank & ate & comments below: Rooibos Orange Iced Tea: actual tea that was cooled down and not something out of a packed. Sharp, sweet and slightly sour orange. Lovely. 9/10 Sinnerman mocktail: Orange juice. Cinnamon, thyme accents. Refreshing and really well balanced. 9.5/10 Chicken & leek robata skewers: Moist chicken, charred leek. Subtle flavours of sweet soy sauce. Perfectly cooked. 9.25/10 Chicken gyoza: Thin, almost transparent dumpling wrapper. Juicy, well seasoned chicken filling. 10/10 all other dumplings ruined for me. Tofu carpaccio: Silken tofu, seared on one side and sliced paper thin. Topped with a sesame soy glaze, pickled red chili and fried shiso leaves. Melt in the mouth perfection. 9.5/10 Mushroom & water chestnut gyoza: Juicy, plump mushrooms and wholesome water chestnuts. Same wrapper as the chicken ones, and just as delicious. 9.5/10 Tori Nanban: Fried chicken, served with paper thin sliced radish and gorgeous spicy tartare sauce to dip. Simple perfection and fried chicken has forever been ruined for me. 10/10 Taiyaki w/ chocolate: Warm, slightly crisp fish shaped pancake. Stuffed with rich chocolate ganache and matcha cream on the side. 9.5/10 Monaka: Passionfruit ice cream with azuki paste and blueberries, presented in an impossibly thin japanese style wafer. 10/10 Roasted black sesame ice cream: Deep, rich, umami flavour. Gorgeous crumble and seasonal fruits. Unmissable finisher to the meal. 10/10 Decor: Feels a lot like a slice of Japan has landed in Bombay. Muted colours, soft music. 9/10 Service: Utterly excellent service. Prompt, attentive and also all food arrived piping hot at the same time. That kitchen runs like clockwork. 10/10 Price: Total damage for 5 dishes, 3 desserts and 2 non alcoholic drinks came to ₹5879.

I was quite disappointed with my recent visit. Despite having a reservation, my friend and I experienced a long wait before being allowed in—even though there were visibly unoccupied seats throughout our time there. We were told those were “reserved,” but no one actually turned up to occupy them during the two hours we spent waiting and dining. What added to the frustration was that, even with a reservation, a few guests were allowed in ahead of us. When I politely asked the lady at the entrance about it, she responded in a curt and defensive manner. This was especially disheartening, as I had just landed from a flight from Bangalore and was simply looking forward to a relaxed sushi experience. I was dressed casually—as I prefer comfort while flying—and since there's no dress code mentioned, I went in what I was already wearing. Unfortunately, I couldn't help but feel that this influenced how we were treated. There seemed to be a noticeable bias toward guests dressed in flashier, branded attire. But in truth, how someone dresses should never be used to judge their social stature—or determine the respect and service they receive. The restaurant may has a strong local following and plenty of hype, but I sincerely hope they work on fostering a more welcoming, respectful, and unbiased environment for all guests.

MUST TRY – Food – Tori Nanban Pork/Chicken Gyoza Pork Shoyu Tonkotsu Ramen Matcha Ice Cream Drinks – Ginza Nights Tokyo Bloom Zen & Zest RATINGS – Food & Drinks: 4.5/5 Ambience: 4.5/5 Price: 4/5 Total – 4.5/5 Tucked into a quiet Bandra lane, Izumi delivers a genuinely satisfying Japanese experience, no frills, just flavour. The karaage? Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. Gyozas? Silky, succulent and exactly what you’d want with a drink. The ramen packs a punch too, warm, comforting and well-balanced. Cocktails are a pleasant surprise! Well-made, and complement the food beautifully. End with the matcha ice cream if you’ve got space, it’s subtle and does the job. Bonus points for the chance of a low-key celeb sighting. You never know who might be slurping noodles next to you. Farhan Akhtar and his wife were dining a couple of tables away from us!
