Boy oh boy what a good time this was, we hadn't been there in a while and missed it. The ambience is a throwback from another era, genteel and civilized with a dark sexy moody clubby vide and feel, adorable intimate little banquette type booths for two against the wall near the bar area. The lighting is a treat, dark and amber with a spirit that I don't encounter much these days, not like that awful industrial exposed brick crap. The acoustics here are forgiving, with hushed tones and burnished gleaming wood tables. The menu is old work with steaks and chops, salads and starters, along with more old fashioned entrees. Though so many of their appetizers looked good, we opted to do something we rarely do: get two entrees and taste each others': their prime rib and crispy skin salmon, the latter was awesome, though a tad overcooked for my taste, but that's no shade on them--it was more than good enough. I didn't like the prime rib, and though before ordering it, my husband and I told each other we weren't going to compare it to SF's HOPR, we couldn't help but do it, and though intrinsically, there was nothing wrong with the prime rib, it just didn't hit the mark. Their potatoes, OMG, I. Mean. Insanely good, if I could digest it, I'd inhale a vat of it, a gooey delicious concoction of browned potatoes with likely a ton of butter with cheese and salt and more cheese ... it's worth it, as a once in a while treat. Their mushrooms are bomb, deep rich carmelized flavors. And the bourbon honey carrots? Just imagine honey and browning and bourbon, salty and sweet with the slightest tang ... and you've got a home run. Did I mention the caesar salad? OMG. That caesar is one of the best I'v ever had. Ever. And I'm a caesar freak. It's good sign when they drape a generous portion of Spanish anchovies on top, a light but solid dusting of pariggiano reggiano, along with a decadent creamy dressing, and tang. I wanted more acid, and got some more wedges of lemon from the bar, and I was set. Their crispy salmon on a bed of butternut squash puree was a fantastic blend of flavors and consistencies. I'd go back just for the Caesar salad, though this time I try the mussels and tuna tartare. The customer service was on point, super attentive and friendly, everyone was on the ball, nobody going through the motions. I loved everyone from beginning to and, everyone was trained to the nines. The prices, for the quality of ingredients, and the generous portions, are reasonable. Loved our experience and can't wait to go back for that caesar ... if you go, don't miss it!
