"Any Louisville restaurant list would be incomplete without a mention of Jack Fry’s. Established in 1933 by Jack Fry and his wife Flossie, the bistro offers Southern-style cuisine with French influences. The eatery was a hangout for local sportsmen whose historic photos still hang on the restaurant walls. Beloved dishes include the ricotta gnocchi tossed in Calvados cream sauce with roasted mushrooms and broccolini; spicy fried oysters served over Weisenberger grits with country ham; and the prosciutto-wrapped chicken saltimbocca served over creamy polenta and roasted brussels sprouts, and finished with lemon-caper berry thyme jus." - Lennie Omalza

First time visiting Jack Fry's and it didn't disappoint. We started with drinks which immediately struck us both as some of the best cocktails we've ever enjoyed. Next, we enjoyed salads--both were good, but I would recommend the brie salad. For entrees we enjoyed the roasted chicken and the salmon. Both were very fresh, well plated, and delicious. The chicken plate immediately evoked a great nostalgia for holiday gatherings. For dessert we enjoyed the cinnamon pear cheesecake and the chocolate cake. Both were very rich, and flavors exceeded our expectations. The cheesecake was vibrant with fall aromas and colors. The inside of the restaurant itself is perhaps dated, but evokes a nostalgia for a bygone era. It's also crowded, but with a lively positive energy accompanied by a live pianist.

This is THE restaurant to go to if you are in Louisville and want to have an elegant dining experience. It is the closest experience you will get to a Michelin Star restaurant here in Louisville. In terms of service, all staff are incredible and respectful. They have a coat check, they clean your table and collect your silverware between the appetizers and entrees, and they always have women go first and are served first. In terms of drinks, they have wonderful curated cocktails. My personal favorite drink is a desert cocktail called A Night At The Movies. Moving to appetizers, the single handedly best item on the menu is the spicy fried oysters. When someone asks me what is one thing I could eat for the rest of my life, it’s these spicy fried oysters. The other appetizers are good too, but you can’t skip out on these oysters. For the salads, the Brie Salad is the second best thing on the menu. It is phenomenal, don’t skip it!! For entrees, I have tried a few: the chicken, the steak, the pork chop and other seasonal dishes, but the best one by far in my opinion is the Short Rib. It falls apart so easily and pairs so well with the goat cheese mashed potatoes. My second favorite is the pork chop. And last but not least, we have desserts. Usually I am too full for dessert, but the cobbler is a great choice and pair it with the toasted marshmallow ice cream. It’s made by the lovely Louisville Cream and you can only get it at Jack Fry’s. Long story short, if I knew I was dying and could choose my last meal, I think it would be the following from Jack Fry’s: the spicy fried oysters, Brie salad, braised short rib, the cobbler with ice cream and a final drink, the Night At The Movies.

Iconic. 91 years and still iconic. We celebrated our anniversary tonight and had the absolute most memorable night! This will now forever be the place we celebrate, us. Great food and atmosphere! The service was amazing and the drinks tasted great! We did not make a reservation and ate at the bar, I’m so glad we did because we had the best bartender! Piano music made the place all that more special, can’t wait to visit again. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Google
Great ambience (slightly upscale but relaxed enough for dark jeans and a sweater), great cocktails, and great food. We got the braised short rib, the pork chop, Brie salad, a manhattan, and espresso martini for desert. Everything was excellent and worth the price. Great service and food was served in a timely manner.

My partner and I came here for our 9th anniversary, and they did not disappoint. Each dish was thoughtfully seasoned and prepared and carefully plated; each dish was absolutely perfect. Our server was very attentive and not bothersome. The wine selection is substantial without being overwhelming, and the soft jazz was a nice touch to the atmosphere.

Every dish my family got was impeccable. Loved the ambiance, the staff and experience overall. They made my husband's birthday perfect!

Definitely on the pricier side, however, well worth every penny spent. Great food, great service and great atmosphere. Great bourbon selection.

Jack Fry’s A+++ was excellent!!! The charming atmosphere was wonderful with wall covered memorabilia, and the white linen table cloth and piano bar in the background was very awesome. Our waiter was Steve he attended to our every need. He was prompt and professional throughout our entire sitting. So now the meal we had was amazing. I had the herb encrusted pork chops with potatoes and asparagus .The chops were the best that I have ever eaten absolutely delicious!!! My wife had the salmon dinner, and our guests each had the hamburger meal. They all agreed best they ever had!!!

Yelp
I've had many wonderful meals at Jack Fry's over the years and this past weekend was no different. This is an old school Louisville staple and always impresses. First, the service is incredible. Everyone is so friendly and dedicated to ensuring you have a great time. I'm a vegetarian and our server and the chef went out of their way to ensure I had a great meal. Second, the food! Everything we had was phenomenal. I started with the brie salad (Bibb lettuce in Dijon vinaigrette, topped with melted brie and almonds), which was fantastic. The creamy brie plus the sharp Dijon dressing is a fantastic combination. For my main, the chef did a double order of the Agnolotti appetizer (House-made pasta filled with fall-spiced butternut squash in a sage cream sauce drizzled with brown butter and topped with hazelnut gremolata and micro mustard greens), along with an order of the creamy baby butter beans that accompany the Pork Shank entree. Both were incredible! The pasta combo of creamy butternut squash and savory sage was early fall perfection. The protein hit from the beans ensured I had a balanced meal. I finished my meal with the Créme Caramel (Caramelized vanilla custard and caramel sauce) -- omg, I could have eaten five of them. So good! Third, the ambiance! Jack Fry's is such a fun environment. I love all the old photos of patrons throughout their 30+ years. It is dark and moody with lots of wood. It is so cozy and perfect for enjoying their food. Highly recommend! Sorry for the lack of photos -- everything was so good that I jumped right in. And for all my vegan and vegetarian friends, just ask your server about options and I'm sure they'll find something for you.

Yelp
Four of us went to Jack Fry's tonight. Service was excellent (thanks, Jenny and all who bustled about making sure all was well), food was superb, Jamie found a new beer to enjoy and I tasted duck for the first time and think there must be no better place to try new dishes. The duck breast with foie gras was a special appetizer. I'd eat it every day if I could. We shared desserts after our entrees - a flourless chocolate cake (excellent!) and my favorite, another special - strawberry champagne cobbler. (I want more!) Jack Fry's has an authentic old charm.

Yelp
As always Jack Frys delivers on all fronts. Ambiance unique romantic setting. Service is over the top excellent. Food is incredible, every dish, every bite. And now that they are offering a flourless, gluten free cake, I am over the moon!! Our go to place for special occasions, birthdays, anniversary or just a nice date night.

Yelp
Best dinner in Louisville IMO. Great service and classic white table cloth atmosphere. The lamb chops and pork chops are two excellent dishes!!

Yelp
I was recently in Louisville for work during Derby week. Someone mentioned that Jack Fry's was a must try. We weren't sure if we could get in because derby week is very busy but they were able to get us reservations for an early dinner. Let me just say that this is one of the best meals I have ever had in Louisville or anywhere for that matter. The service was excellent. The drinks were very tasty and we enjoyed the ambiance of the place. We didn't dress up but there were several tables that were dress in their derby fare. I had the pork chop that was cooked to perfection. Come hungry because the portions are not small. I can't wait to come back and try the spare ribs. They start you with a bread basket of baguette and soda bread alongside warm butter. Both are delicious but the soda bread is my favorite. It gave unsweetened pound cake vibes. I had their house mock-tail that was very tasty. It's kind of like an old fashion without the bourbon. Overall it was an excellent experience and I can't wait to come back.

Yelp
The ambiance had my wife and I were blown away. I felt like I'd stepped back in time. Ii almost expected Sammie Davis Jr, Frank Sinatra, and the rest of the Rat Pack to hop on stage. The white linen and candles definitely set the mood. The food blew my wife and I away. The crab cake was amazing! It was meaty and flavor full!

Anne M.

Yelp
I'm always gonna give Jack Fry's a 5 star review. They're just awesome. Food, ambiance, everything. You'll see a few dishes we had today in the pictures. I started with the warm Brie salad. Can't come here without getting it! My lunch was a pork tenderloin sandwich. Sliced moist tenderloin with toppings on a pretzel bun. Very good. My main issue, and I'm really surprised by this, is that for sandwiches at lunch, they give a choice of sweet potatoes or fries. I chose fries. They are the kind with the crust on them, similar to Wendy's. They need some fries that taste like potatoes, not artificial enhancements. My opinion! My husband had the shrimp and grits, which is a staple. Always very good. And my BIL and SIL had the seafood croquettes that they reported as delicious as well. The dessert we had was a chocolate bomb, tasty, but they had an orange cake that was simply to die for!!!

Yelp
We have been trying to get reservations for some time at Jack Fry's. Since our anniversary was coming up, I tried extra hard and even called the Resturant 90 days out to get a table on our celebration day. I was able to secure a table for anniversary and so for 3 months we eagerly awaited the date to show up on the calendar. Once the date arrived we eagerly headed down. All I can say was it was worth the wait. We walked in , gave our name to the receptionist, who then had a person to show us to our table. Once we were seated a most excellent server came by told us about the specials and took our drink order. I decided on the Haymaker punch, or two, and my wife order special martini. The drinis came out and were better than expected. We ordered a Tomato & Artichoke Tart as an appetizer. It did not stay on the table long due to its amazing taste. I ordered Shrimp and grits instead of a salad and my wife ordered the Brie Salad. Both had exceptional taste. For our entrees, I had Salmon and my wife ordered the Lamp Chops. And as with everything else we enjoyed, the Entrees were extraordinary. We both agreed that we could have stoped eating before our entrees were served, but the food was so good. All in all a most excellent dinning experience. We are looking forward to returning and trying a few of their additional offerings.

Yelp
Wow! What an incredible meal! I don't know what was my favorite because everything was sooo good! I had the Escargot and the Fried Oysters (wow!). The Gorgonzola Salad was to die for and the Scallops were cooked to perfection! I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Amazing from start to finish our server, appetizer cocktails dinner and dessert they have been in business since 1933 a definite must see and experience the ambiance definitely will return

Yelp
Jack Fry's is absolutely a total experience. We went there for lunch and we enjoyed every moment of it the food the service the ambience the staff they were busy, but they still took very good care of us. The food is out of this world phenomenal.

Roya J.

Yelp
Great experience for hubby's 50th birthday celebration. The place had an old school feel to it with great service and dishes. It was the best meal during our time in Louisville.

Amanda M.

Yelp
This place books out well in advance. We finally got a reservation at a decent time. Parking is sparse and we knew that ahead of time, so we ubered. We were greeted and sat immediately. The place was full. A server was around quickly to offer us water while we looked at the menu. There were two specials that night as well as the full regular menu. I started with gin on the rocks. We were not hungry enough for appetizers. We decided on the burger plus an upgrade to the cheese and an added fried egg as well as the short rib. Both dishes were outstanding. Service was quick and efficient. We were surprised that we could not tip on our gift card. Our meal was $79, so the gift card would give our server a $21 tip. But they said they could not cash out the remainder for the tip. We would have to keep the remainder on the card. So strange. For that reason, I had a dessert cocktail and my date had dessert. Peach cobbler was on the specials list. It looked good. No reason to keep a $21 gift card for three years. So we spend the money and tipped cash. Piano player was great. Noise level a bit high. Would recommend for a date night. Reservation is a must and don't plan on driving as there are few parking spots.

Yelp
Jack Fry's takes you back in time when fine dining was defined! This is the best overall restaurant in Louisville! A perfect spot for that special occasion! I call a special occasion Thursday night!!!! I feel most people can find a dish they enjoy at Jack Fry's. The entrees are very comprehensive with beef and pork as the logo suggests. The menu does not stop there since they offer a couple of seafood options, chicken, lamb and vegetarian dishes. If all else fails with your tastebuds, you can fall back on one of the best burgers in town. If find myself rotating through the menu each time I return. Jack Fry's does update the menu seasonally and keeps the menu current on there website. The servers at Jack Fry's are some of the most professional and friendly in the city! Say hi to Steve, Will, Jamie, Liz, Ashley, Kerry and Nick from me! Jack Fry's has many signature menu items: Appetizers Shrimp and Grits Spicy Fried Oysters Salads Brie Salad Stilton Salad Entrees Filet Salmon Pork Chop Burger Jack Fry's does have a small parking lot next to the establishment, so get there early for a spot or maybe get lucky as someone is leaving. You can park along Bardstown Road during the week after 6pm. They open for dinner promptly at 5:30pm, which includes the bar. If your Uber/Lyft driver drops you off before 5:30pm, you'll be waiting outside until they open for service.

Yelp
Stellar experience -- service was top notch, attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, personable, professional, and a joy to behold. Food was spectacular as it was fresh, flavorful, and had gorgeous presentation. Great value. Ambiance was cozy, relaxed, and fun. It felt like I had stepped back in time and no complaints here. Hope it never changes. The only drawback -- extremely loud at the Friday dinner hour. (I joked with my fellow diner that it wouldn't be the place to do a marriage proposal.) We sat at the bar and I ordered a glass of Syrah to start as well as an order of delectable escargot, which arrived piping hot in a specialized serving dish, along with butter and crispy cheese and crunchy toasted bread slices. Another round of wine and a small salad of tender buttery Bibb lettuce with a sliced almonds and warm Brie cheese. Finally, a luscious warm dessert of blood orange upside down cake with fresh hot coffee -- melt in your mouth just sweet enough choice. My fellow diners ordered a special espresso martini made with bourbon as an alternative as suggested by the bartender and it was an unexpected and unequivocal hit with everyone. I plan to return in the very near future to try several other menu items which caught my eye.

Bruce K.

Yelp
Fantastic food and 5 star service. Extremely attentive and professional staff. Be sure to ask for Steve as your server. Impeccable!

Alli N.

Yelp
So delicious. I love the vibe of this restaurant too, such a special place that has been preserved through time. Nothing beats the live jazz music too. Service was impeccable!

Michael M.

Yelp
Old School Louisville classic Great service - great lunch Been going for 30+ years

Ceivy M.

Yelp
After a long week of work conferences, I decided to sneak away for the night and enjoy what Louisville had to offer. I was pleasantly surprised when I managed to snag the last chair at the bar. The bartender was very attentive to me through the night. She was understanding when I didn't like the mixed drink she prepared and instead gave me an IPA. The food was phenomenal, and the steak threatened to melt in my mouth. The cheesecake was fluffy heaven. Even though the portions looked small, I was stuffed by the end of the night. Also, did I mention that they had a live pianist? It's the fanciest I've ever felt at a bar booth drinking a beer. (But I was also wearing very casual clothes, so I appreciate the staff not enforcing a severe dress code)

Kim R.

Yelp
Such an iconic Louisville restaurant. Never disappoints! We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. The ambience is wonderful. The pianist was playing holiday classics and was right behind me. Tried the salad with warm brie and almonds, which was quite good. The filet was perfectly prepared and one of the best I've had. We enjoyed an old-fashioned and a Manhattan with our meal and finished with a molten lava cake and fresh raspberries. Yum O!

Allison T.

Yelp
I don't typically leave reviews but this place was fantastic! Started with the escargot, and it was terrific. Garlicky, buttery, and a tad cheesy. We got the short rib, the burger, the shrimp and grits, the burger, and the filet and our whole party had clean plates at the end of our meal. Great for a cozy vibe and special occasion. I hope to return soon!

Christine A.

Yelp
Ambience was very cool, feels like you went back in time. Service was good, but not great, it took a long time to get anything that we ordered which we didn't really mind but our waiter never had the time to chat about different dishes or recommendations. He almost seemed a bit too busy for us. The food was very good, definitely worth the wait, drinks were very good as well. We had the lamb, fillet, fritters, and chocolate bomb; all of which I would recommend. Although the ambiance was cool, it was very loud to the point we almost couldn't hear each other. Because of the noise level, not very attentive server, and price point ($65 per entree) I probably would go elsewhere for a nice steak next time.

Jasper L. H.

Yelp
Great service and delicious cuisine! Had a great birthday dinner with friends after a day in a bourbon trail.

Virga H.

Yelp
Food was great to ok. Atmosphere was...interesting. Not a big fan of a bar area that is so crowded that when i look up from taking a bite i find myself looking at someone's butt...people standing so close that my elbow could accidentally hit them in the rear. Everything but the orzo was good to great. Recommend the brussel sprout app and the spinach and pear salad. The orzo not so much. My friend said well it is a place known for meat. Maybe you shouldn't order a vegetarian dish. But I think all dishes should be made with the same passion, regardless. Wine list was not very impressive. Wait staff was amazing. Attentive and helpful. Parking is difficult. If you go with someone who can't walk far best to drop them off before circling the neighborhood for a spot. Overall, food a 4, atmosphere a 2...and a 0% chance of going back.

Becca T.

Yelp
We had an amazing meal with exceptional service. Jack Fry's has been a staple in Louisville since before I was born. Cute and intimate setting perfect for a special date night.

Joseph G.

Yelp
Jack Fry's is a nicer upscale highlands neighborhood of Lousiville American restaurant located off bardstown road. I've had this establishment on my list of places to visit for special events (birthdays, anniversaries, etc) for a little bit. We usually reserve high end steak house for those and I had heard Jack fry's boasted a good steak so it was added to the list. Finally made the reservation This year for my wife and I 15th wedding anniversary the other day. We had to do lunch reservations as we had our oldest participating in her 8th grade graduation activities later that night. Good news is Jack fry's is open for lunch so I made the reservation and marked anniversary for special events in the notes right at opening of 11am. We arrive a bit early and wait for the doors to open which promptly did at 11am. We was able to snag a spot inside there small private parking lot. Which is nice. Most highlands spots do not have a private parking lot at all. Walking in and it is romantically lit and has a Cool upscale vibe with what I'd describe as a 50's/60's big city type theme with lots of black and white photos. Gave our name for our reservation and they sit us in a very tiny two person table right against the wall. Now I'm a broad shouldered man but I can't imagine smaller framed people being comfortable here. My elbow was legit hitting the wall with my chair pushed out the side of the table for extra space. Place was completely empty so I made the request for a move. They did grant this move and was moved over to a normal sized dining table and booth for 2. I must admit while I know some places do smaller scale versions of a menu or smaller portions for lunch, I was very disappointed in the lunch menu here. Extremely limited. No steak at all and really no higher end foods that caught my eye when booking this establishment. The lunch menu mainly consisted of sandwiches, salads, apps and a few entrees. I hated to do it because I had my heart sat on a nice anniversary meal, But I got a chicken sandwich. None of the limited entrees fit my taste pallets and it was honestly a long decision trying to figure out what I'd even like on The limited menu. I went with the chicken sandwich and my wife who likes seafood much more than me got the salmon. Here plate was beautiful dressed and visually appeasing. However the quantity of salmon was very tiny and not filling at all. She said the salmon was pretty good. Not bad by any means but she left unsatisfied overall. My chicken sandwich was just ok. Bun was nice and fluffy and the sauce was good. Chicken was slightly over cooked in a few spots. Wasn't thrilled with it. But to be fair I had my heart sat on a ribeye or other high end meat and not a chicken sandwich that I could get from Popeyes or zaxbys. To further the disappointment the establishment did absolutely nothing to honor our anniversary. No dessert, no flower, no hand written note and not even a happy anniversary. Like I mentioned above for all our special events we make reservations on the open table app and place what we are celebrating in the notes. Never have we ever had a place that is suppose to be upscale not acknowledge us at all. The service overall was lacking. Our waitress kinda stayed away. We got one refill when our food came. Granted, they probably assumed i was gonna be angry or difficult because I did ask to move (I was very kind in asking and joked that I'm a broad shouldered guy). Or maybe I wore a look of disappointment on my face when looking at the menu. I'm not sure but the server definitely was not as attentive to our table as she was the other two guests dining in at that time. Overall, we was extremely let down here. It's gonna be tough when you have your heart on a $65 ribeye when gazing the menu before visiting and end up getting a chicken sandwich. What's kinda wild is out whole bill was under $40. I was expecting to spend 65 plus on my entree alone. So I guess I saved money but did not get the celebration feel or experience that you hope to get when making an anniversary reservation. I'd be willing to try this place again for dinner one day. I would like to see the hype around the steak. My advice for all others would be avoid the lunch if you want to get a taste of the actual menu and don't worry about reservations (we had two other people there the entire duration while we was there). Even though they did not acknowledge us or our celebration they do others evidently. The last kick in the gut was as we were walking out one of the other guests was being brought out a cake for a birthday....sigh....

Wendi W.

Yelp
The food was fabulous. All 4 of us ate in silence and didn't offer to share! Talking resumed after lunch to share about what we ate and how much we loved it! The ambiance was fabulous. I've never written a review before, but this restaurant really deserves praise.

Cindy L.

Yelp
We had a wonderful dinner at the bar. We had bar seating to ourselves! The establishment reopened on Sundays, and we were lucky enough to get in a reservation with the help of the young ladies answering their phones. My husband had been there on a business trip about 15 years ago and loved it so much he wanted to come back and reminisce. Back then, they had tornado warnings and they had to go in their safe room until all cleared. Jimmy the bartender was fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed his attention and great service. We ordered the special/ pasta with scallops and lobster. We also had the burger topped with pimento cheese; Substituted spinach for fries. Both dishes were absolutely delicious and enjoyable.

Chris G.

Yelp
Always a great experience at Jack Fry's. Drinks, food and service all outstanding. The pork chop was outstanding!!!

Lisa W.

Yelp
In desperate need of dinner but no where else had space we called Jack Fry's to see if they can squeeze us in. Thankfully they were able to. Jack Fry was recommended by our tour guide. The place is pretty big and really busy on a Saturday night. We started with some appetizers- Caesar salad, escargot, risotto balls and spicy fried oysters. The escargots were my favorite! They did it right. It was very flavorful and delicious. The fried oysters were good too. For my entree I got the lamb chop. I was a little hesitant because never ordered lamb chop before and didn't know if it'll be gamey. Turned out delicious! It wasn't gamey and it was cooked to perfection. Also seasoned well. My husband got the pork chop and it was huge. I tried some and it was delicious. Definitely an place you want to check out. Don't get the dirty martini though in a bourbon city. It was extremely salty and had to be returned 2x and my husband just ended up getting a martini straight up. Stick with wine or bourbon! Lol.

Marshall P.

Yelp
One of my faves in town. Generally packed on weekends so book in advance. A great spot for a special occasion or to impress visitors with local cuisine. Favorite dishes include fried oysters and shrimp and grits. The Brie salad is amazing - pretty decadent. I think they might have one of the better burgers in town. The feel is tradition and antique - historic photos of past derby winners, etc. line the walls. Don't mistake traditional for dusty. Always a quality meal and experience.

Jeremy S.

Yelp
Jack Fry's is a hidden gem in Louisville. Upscale restaurant taking you back in time. The entrees are absolutely classic and prepared to perfection. I highly recommend pairing any dish with one any red wine. Appetizer: We tried the Arancini, crispy fried stuffed risotto balls, drizzled with balsamic. Absolutely delicious. Entree: I had the pork chop, which will definitely fill your appetite. The entree had a light breadcrumb that encrusted the entire pork chop served along with roasted new potatoes. Their desserts looked very appealing, however after finishing off my entire dinner I had to pass. If you get a chance, enquirer of the waiter about the history of Jack Fry's, it's very intriguing.

Skylar P.

Yelp
The lamb was absolutely amazing with the coating. Don't let me start on the potatoes (in the way of a lasagna). The desert was to dieee for !!!! 10/10 RECOMMEND!!!

Mark S.

Yelp
Jack Fry's restaurant is an amazing little gem of a restaurant with quite a reputation in the Highlands area on Bardstown Road. When it first opened up it was run by Jack and his wife. Jack tended bar and Mrs. Fry did the cooking. There is a piano player who plays jazz and requests for tips. After Mrs. Fry passed over Jack closed down the neighborhood cafe and it sat empty for quite a while. Along came a couple of interested investors and the old place reopened! This time with a chef and extremely well trained wait staff. Birthdays and special occasions are extra special when celebrated here As long as Jack was alive he had his dinners at the restaurant in exchange for keeping his name in lights on the front of his place. It will always be Jacks place. Every evening when he dropped in, whether with a lady friend or alone he would bring us a box of champagne candy from the drugstore across the street. The drugstore is gone and Jack is sorely missed by those of us who were fortunate enough to have known him. Whenever I'm there I can still feel them watching over the place.

Bridget W.

Yelp
Sooooo good!!!! The food and service are always amazing! It can be a little crowded though.

Sara T.

Yelp
Used to be my favorite restaurant but no more. My husband ordered the strip steak (67.00) thinking this would be a great steak. It was so tough he could not chew it and was choked on it. They offered to cook it longer? why to make it tougher? Offered him french fries. Acted like it was his fault that he choked. As we were leaving the assistant manager said "stick to mashed potatoes and applesauce". REALLY!! So much for customer service. Won't be back, not that it matters to them.

Hannah S.

Yelp
The best restaurant in Louisville. Every dish is impeccable. Service is top notch. My favorite spot for a delicious lunch or the number one choice for a special occasion dinner. 11/10 stars

Wayne C.

Yelp
What a massive disaster. Wow. I came here with a colleague and we were both super excited for what we anticipated would be a great meal. It wasn't. Service was slow and labored. It was like the guy didn't want to be there. There was no explanation of the specials, and we waited nearly 10 minutes just for a drink order. Once I did receive my drink, I sent it back and that ticked him off more. How does a purported whiskey bar mess up an old fashioned so badly? Neither one was salvageable. We had the Brussels appetizer and they were grossly undercooked. Still hard as a rock. Very disappointing start to this meal. Next, I ordered the Pork Chop and she ordered the steak-cooked medium. Check my photo for how the steak came out-it was rare, at best. The top was burnt and tasted nasty, like someone just seared the outside of it in a crusty old Teflon pan. It wasn't what I would expect for a $60 steak. We did mention it to the waiter and he took it off the bill after we declined to eat it. The pork chop was un-inspiring-disappointing considering its a signature dish. One redeeming factor-the fries oysters were pretty yummy. That's why I put two stars instead of one. Between the terrible service, undrinkable cocktail and then the completely effed up steak, I probably won't be back.

Yelp
Jack Fry's is a community icon and standard for the best food and service in the area. I have not tried a dish that wasn't above excellence! The historic feel of the restaurant coupled with the food makes for an unforgettable experience!

Yelp
If you have lived in Louisville for some time, you've heard of this place. It speaks for itself and its name. Wonderful overall

Yelp
Jack Fry's is a restaurant soaked in history. The walls are adorned with captivating old photos and the floors are checkerboard tile. A terrific piano player provided background music during the dinner experience. It isn't a large restaurant so the noise level is fairly high, but has a great ambiance. A bread service kicks off the meal, then we ordered the escargot for an appetizer. The escargot gets a 5/5 from me and is a dish I would order over and over again. For the mains, we ordered the pork chop and the braised short rib. The pork chop is a bread encrusted bone in cut which has a lot of flavor paired with the new potato's and mushrooms glacé. The chop was also topped with asparagus. The braised short rib was very tender and flavorful. The dish was accompanied by mashed potatoes, broccolini and topped with crispy onions. No dessert for us this time...

Yelp
We can make this review pretty simple for you; You need to go to place! Note: Best Old Fashion I had in Louisville. The place has an old school feel to it all. Opened in the 1930's - they put out some real quality entrees in this deco period classic restaurant. No need to keep explaining all the nitty gritty details. The place has been around this long - it (isn't) because they got lucky. They do dinner well - just go there and you'll. See...

Yelp
Back again and we were not disappointed. Service, food and ambiance were all on point. I've not yet eaten something here that I didn't like. The cocktails were incredible as well. Keeping it short and sweet but had to express our appreciation for the dinner experience. Definitely check this place out if your visiting or living in Louisville!

Yelp
First time in Louisville and we went to a couple of restaurant that has high yelp review and all of them are disappointing except this place. The food and service is on point! Nice atmosphere, although the food took longer than expected but once we got the food it was OMG so good so is worth it!

Yelp
Last minute decision to eat here on a Monday night... checked for reservations but Open Table didn't show any until 9:30pm but we headed to the restaurant anyhow around 7pm in hopes of getting a table. The place was packed but we were able to get a booth within a few minutes. Host and our waitress were all very friendly and professional. Our host told us about the appetizer special of scallop & pork belly so we knew we wanted to order that when we got to our table. This was 1 seared scallop, sliced in half, served with a chunk of pork belly, and rings of squash that was grilled. The dish wasn't a lot but it was good and had a good presentation. I didn't get a picture of it. Next, we split the Brie salad... which was bibb lettuce, melted brie, almonds, and a vinaigrette. Since we were splitting it, they already divided it and served it to us on our own plate. Our entrees were the salmon and lamb chops. The salmon was served with risotto... this dish was decent but nothing I would order again. I didn't feel that the risotto had a lot of flavor on its own so every bite I took consisted of both a bite of salmon and a bite of risotto. The lamb chops were amazing! This was my first time having lamb chops too. This would definitely be a dish I'd order again... maybe even go specifically for them! The au-gratin potatoes and green beans that it was served with were very tasty too. Nice, clean, classy atmosphere... upscale for sure, which is seen by the clientele there. Not that jeans couldn't be worn there but you mostly saw business suits, sport coats, dresses, slacks, etc. Dress to impress restaurant. Love it.

Yelp
Once again I forget to take the pictures!!!! But, it was a phenomenal meal experience. We started with cocktails and ricotta gnudi which was such a mild flavorful appetizer and so creamy and good. Then we got a bottle of Borolo and a Brie salad which was so creamy and crispy together a great start. I got the bone in rib-eye and it was so tender and wonderful with succotash and broccolini so so good. Of course it was our 24th anniversary so they gave us a complimentary little dessert that saved us from trying to decide on a dessert. That also means I didn't get to try their limoncello......

Yelp
Jack fry's was a great place for celebrating our wedding anniversary. It doesn't look like much on the outside, but the inside is wonderful and a great place for a special occasion. We started with the Pimento cheese arancini- it was a great start to our meal. I got the Brie Salad. I love Brie and enjoyed the salad, it was definitely different than any other salad I've tried. For dinner I got the summer vegetable pasta and my husband got the ribeye. I was definitely out ordered as the ribeye was amazing, but both were very tasty! To top off we got ice cream and the chocolate flourless cake, great way to end the night! The service was amazing as well!

Yelp
Pre-Covid was our last visit, and it's hard to wait that long for such a top notch experience. Piano ambiance, classy atmosphere, good wine list that isn't priced out of reach for many, there is a lot to love at Jack Fry's. It's a perennial favorite of many for the same reasons we rediscovered during our visit. Great service, great flavor, meticulous detail, staff knowledge, atmosphere and cleanliness. It stays on the 5 star list! The lamb chops are succulent!
