Where to Eat and Drink in Sellwood-Moreland | Eater Portland

"A family-owned affair, the double-decker, wood-filled Jade Teahouse is always packed, usually with a line nearly out the door for its counter-service Vietnamese food. The pastries are baked in house and often sell out, especially the delightful, colorful little macarons and the fluffy tea cakes, but the whole menu is worth exploring: Fluffy steamed bao, crispy spring rolls, spicy chile noodles, and the slightly-sweet chicken mango stir-fry all deliver." - Alex Frane

Took our family to try out this place that was highly recommended by a dear friend. Heard the story of how this place started so, was fascinated and intrigued. It was a noodle day for us as we each picked a noodle dish and a salad to share. 😆 Food came out fast and hot. It was full of flavor and portions are generous. We also bought some of their pastries home. Prices are very reasonable. Parking is a challenge as it is located on a busy street but side streets have parking as well. Would definitely be back for another round of good food.

Jade Teahouse is a wonderful spot with a very cozy and casual atmosphere. I've dined both upstairs and out on the patio. If the weather permits definitely try the outdoor patio, it's very pleasant. The Chicken Udon is the most unique and delicious I've ever had! The noodles are perfection, the broth is quite savory, and the chicken was proportional to the dish which I appreciate. The cilantro and caramelized onion give it a nice touch.

We enjoyed the fried catfish, vegetable salad with shrimp and the tapioca dumplings, which were delicious despite being a lot of work to chew, kinda like mochi. Fast and friendly service, and a nice patio in front and on the side of the building.

I used to love Jade. My family went all the time. But I must say that over the last decade, the quality of the food and the ingredients have gone noticeably worse, and it is at a point where it is no longer acceptable. Today I ordered a Vietnamese beef stew where the carrots and beef were probably cooked in a thin soup for 15 mins tops. The carrots were still crunchy and the beef very tough. The spring onions tells me how the whole thing was only cooked briefly. This famous Vietnamese dish I love so much had had neither flavor nor respect. Our eggplant dish was so oily it had at least 5 tablespoon of visible oil floating on top. The rice they served are the cheapest kind wholesale: broken rice. And it was quite hard. I don’t know how it is for others, but to pay $20 per entre plus 20% tip for counter service, I don’t find this quality to be acceptable. As an Asian chef I also find it sad that they have to cut corners to this degree. Maybe some of your customers can’t tell, but I sure hope you guys do better so that we can return to enjoy your offerings.

From the outside driving by it looks like not much. But the inside is great, the people are great and the food is Amazing! Went here with family after a graduation night for my step daughter. Excellent food! Highly recommend, although I don’t remember all the names of the dishes, the basil fried rice with chicken was mine, and it too exceeded expectations on my palette.

Google
It’s a beautiful beautiful restaurant and well worth a visit. The food was mostly delicious. The beef stew one of the other reviewers complained about recently was actually great today - tender beef and rich carrot sweet flavor. Couple of things let it down - the shrimp that came with our papaya salad were old and had started to dry out on the outside. And the flour coating on the catfish was too goopy and gave it a weird texture. Service was fast and it’s a great place to bring kids or dogs and have a higher quality meal.

Google
Love this place! I’ve been here twice and both times the food was amazing. You order and pay at the counter and they bring it to your seat either outside or inside. Especially loved the green bean special and spring rolls, but everything was truly great.

Google
Nothing crazy. But its a good hang out spot with decent food and lots of options.

Yelp
The food is delicious. Go for the beef salad and stay for the pastry case. We got to-go so nothing to state about the ambiance besides it looked fun. The vermicelli noodles were not a favorite but the the tapioca dumplings were a surprise star! And visually pleasing. Will be back to fine inside :)

Yelp
This was my first time at this restaurant, thanks to Yelpers like you. The food is really good. For appetizer, we had the fried pork spring rolls, which were really good. I think it's enough by itself as a lunch or light dinner. I also had the yellow curry dish, and it was amazingly good! My wife had the Pad Thai. It was good, but not particularly special.

Yelp
The food here is amazing and the portions are more than most restaurants give you. I've been coming to jade tea house for about 5 years now and it remains to be my favorite Thai tea despite going to many others. Another good thing I get that is in their menu is the pad kee mao noddles... perfect As far as service , you get your own water which I love. And the food comes so fast , especially your drinks and sides:) The ambiance is also what draws me back to jade tea house. There is a very spacious down stairs and up stairs, there is also a cute outdoor seating area that is a pleasure to be at durring summer!

Yelp
I was recently reminded that it's okay not to "trade fun for fun." If you are having a good time doing something, you don't have to stop to do something else, even if that second thing will also be a good time. One example they used is favorite dishes - if you have a favorite dish, it's okay to eat that every time you go to a restaurant. Jade Bistro definitely falls into that category for me. I'm HOOKED on their coconut rice noodle soup - for me, this soup is perfection. I feel blessed that my friends have let me try their dishes and that my spouse shares with me, because I do actually get to try other things, but since this is a bit of a drive for me, I'm never going to miss the opportunity to get this soup. I also now have a habit of getting a sesame ball, no sauce. They are the perfect starter or finisher for a meal here. But having tried other dishes, I admit you probably can't go wrong with anything here. The pad Thai is really different than those from other Thai restaurants and I loved it at level 3 spicy, maybe I'd go 4 if I ordered it myself. Also, I've always ordered and grabbed a table downstairs - do yourself a favor if you can and go sit upstairs. Its not necessarily quieter, but less boisterous and I really enjoyed slurping my soup and noodles up there with my friends. Can't wait to return, always.

Yelp
LOVE! Jade. Wish I could eat here weekly. One of my favorite places. I'm lucky to be able to walk to it.

Yelp
I'd rate this 3.8 overall. Your order at the counter, grab some water, and sit down at a table. They'll bring your food out. We ordered the heavenly beef, the fresh wide noodles with chicken, and calamari. The calamari cooked well and tasted good, a bit on the sweeter side though. The fresh wide noodles were good, taste on the subtle side, not as flavorful as I'd like. I asked for chili oil for some umphf. The noodles broke apart easily. The beef was really flavorful and cooked perfectly, however, the portions were really small for what you pay ($19). I hope to try the bang bot loc next time (sold out this visit). We sat inside and there are plenty of tables. The tables outside looked pretty cozy.

Yelp
Really good food! Space was super cute. The staff was incredible. They pay attention to the little details. The table we sat at didn't have a lit candle and they made sure to swap it for a lit one. They made the teas we ordered so quickly. The food was really good. A bit far away from me so I will make sure to visit if I am in sellwood.

Yelp
Typical popular thai food. Nothing that stands out. Like the outdoor seating. Green beans with shrimp, yum. Sesame balls were worth devouring.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my lunch at Jade! Nestled in a cute neighborhood, Jade has many different options whether you eat meat, are gluten free, or vegetarian. I ordered the vermicelli salad bowl which was really tasty! The staff were friendly and it was easy to order at the counter and find a seat. I wish I had taken some pastries to go but I'll definitely do that next time. I really appreciated how fresh everything was in my salad and everything on the menu looked so good. I came in at 11:30 which was nice and calm but by 12ish it was packed! I'll definitely be back again!

Yelp
What's up Yelpies!!! Where do I start... How about amazing food and great service. Yup that's right great service. Let's be honest if you get one good thing out of a restaurant we tend to settle and call it a win.... Not here.. you will get great food, great service and flavor that can only come from people that are passionate about their food and business. So next time you feel like spoiling your taste buds stop over here and enjoy.

Yelp
We had high hopes and all 3 of us had the wide noodles, chicken, shrimp and spicy and all three were basically mush. Way overcooked and barely resembled noodles at all. The flavor wasn't bad but the texture was a complete turnoff. None of finished our plates. Oh well, you can win them all. To their credit, they did apologize and refunded the dish so I do appreciate that. They were busy so it can happen.

Yelp
Today was our second time at this fabulous restaurant. The service is fantastic as is the food. We had chicken red curry, absolutely delicious. The chicken was breast and very tender. We also had the chicken & shrimp green beans.... Totally divine. Highly recommend this quaint place in the heart of Selwood.

Yelp
Very tasty food with fresh ingredients. Our party of 15(!!) found plenty of seating upstairs. The whole staff was working their tails off to get food and drinks out to the restaurant. I ordered the half sandwich and soup--what an amazing deal for $10! I will not be needing dinner. The chicken rice soup is simple but well-executed with excellent seasoning. My drunken chicken bahn mi had seasoned moist thigh meat and perfectly pickled vegetables. I sampled a few bites from friends and their food was all excellent as well.

Yelp
I mean this place is solid - great food, great service, clean, attentive staff - a home ‍. I love that they have so many options and there has never been a dish that I didn't love! Might be my fave place in Sellwood other than A Cena.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is still one of the places that makes the best udon noodle soup (tapioca noodles). It's still a dish that is super tasty and comforting regardless of what the weather is outside. The service here is pretty quick. Once you order at the counter, go find a place to sit, and the server will bring it your food to you. They also have a utensil and water station.

Yelp
My friend's family are quite fond of this place. They frequent Jade Bistro often... I tagged along with them for a family lunch gathering. The venue is fairly large with seating on the bottom and the top. Jade bistro has an open seating concept. Take a gander at the menu and order first, then take a seat and the staff will bring the food to you. Parking can be a pain...so keep that in mind and give yourself ample amount of time. We secured some parking a couple of blocks away in the surrounding neighborhood. The staff is friendly and informative. We ordered many dishes, I didn't get to taste everything, but got a rough idea of what the cuisine here would be like. The foodie stuff: ~ CRISPY SPRING ROLLS - 3.5/5 These were OK. Nothing special about them. The sauce was tasty, not amazing. The side of noodles were a bit strange, but we dipped it in the remaining sauce. ~ KHAO SOI - 4.5/5 Absolutely delicious...I saw a few pics posted on social media and decided to give this one a try. The stir-fried ground pork was very flavorful with just a slight kick. Not overly spicy and the wide rice-noodles just worked oh so well; perfectly done noodles with a delicate balance of chewiness that is soft but not mushy. ~ FRESH SALAD ROLLS - 4/5 We opted for the shrimp only... The peanut dipping sauce was perfect and complemented fresh Salad rolls perfectly. All the ingredients tasted fresh and the rice paper wrap had a perfect texture. Not stiff, slimy or too delicate...just a brilliant consistency. ~ THAI ICE TEA - 4/5 Your standard Thai Ice Tea... a bit on the sweeter side. Still delicious. Now I just need to return and try some of the other dishes.

Yelp
Great neighborhood restaurant with tasty food. You order at the counter and you're handed a number that you display at your table so the server can bring the food to the right customer. Service is always fast, friendly and efficient.

Yelp
If you live in sellwood, you go to jade. The curry is excellent. Red, yellow, green. Salad rolls are excellent. There are many things on the menu including burgers. Normally that's a warning sign but these guys have been in business a long time and have it dialed in. If you don't live in sellwood- drive there!
google avatar

Yelp
This would be a 5 star rating because in general Jade is just so darn delicious and the service is friendly and I have to wonder why they didn't peel the kabocha squash in the red curry. Yes, it is edible but I question how palatable. I felt it left a bitter taste and it was cooked to melt in your mouth softness (is that even possible with kabocha squash skin?!) We will be back however we may avoid the red curry in winter time although the curry itself is delicious. Salad rolls were tasty and good-sized. Peanut sauce was, well, it seemed like it was peanut butter mixed with water. No spicing in it at all and the consistency of paste. My personal favorite is the Jade See Euw (spelling?) with extra veggies!

Zeya K.

Yelp
Lovely outdoor seating and great service! Food was solidly medium - good. We particularly liked sesame ball with caramel.
google avatar

Yelp
Why do I love this place so much? Why does everyone seem to love this place so much? When I want to eat sometimes nothing sounds good except Jade. When I want to eat Thai there is no questioning. It's Jade all the way. My only complaint is that I wish they would give you more peanut sauce without charging what feels like an excessive amount with their salad rolls. If it wasn't for this they would be perfect.
google avatar

Edme L.

Yelp
I hadn't been in since the pandemic, but was happy to find it just as delicious as I remembered. The menu has something for everyone, and as someone with extensive and serious food allergies I often find it hard to eat out places. That was not the case at Jade. There is extensive indoor seating, but their outside space on the side of the building is where it's at. Covered, with cute plants, it's a great little spot. A truest enjoyable experience, and good eats.
google avatar

Ben B.

Yelp
Update your hours... Your staff turned me away at 2:55 and then let the man behind me order for some reason... really odd to do this to a paying customer. Won't be returning and we used to come here weekly.
google avatar

Yelp
Jade is consistent. Consistently good. Consistently fresh. Consistently clean. Consistently friendly. Consistently getting my vegan needs correct and my friend's GF needs. Now she is actually a Celiac so her needs aren't just preferencial, they are necessary. She has been going to Jade for years and invited me for a meal the just a few months prior to COVID. I had the tofu vermicelli bowl then, and on this visit (with my photos,) and wow. Having lived in Portland for only 4 years, my prior experience of a Tofu Vermicelli bowl was a "Vietnamese fusion" restaurant we used to frequent in St. Petersburg, FL. Since then, I had craved that same fresh, flavorful, texture drive food. What Jade nails for me is every aspect of my love for food. I love the salty base of the broth, the wet, soft texture of the noodles, the chewy flavor of the tofu and the crisp of the bean sprouts and veggies and the bright finish of cilantro. This time I got some of the sesame balls to go, as I made the mistake on my first visit of waiting until just before we left. So when we ordered our dinner, I ordered some of those to go. Unfortunately they were eaten prior to me taking photos. I promise I will take pictures of them on my next visit. But a photo doesn't do justice to their sweet and chewy texture. Oh man they're so delicious!! So, I apologize for the lack of photos but it is NOT for a lack of quality or taste. Go visit Jade and support a great local business. They have loads of Vegan and GF options!

Yelp
Excellent food and cool location. I had the chili noodles which were more of a wider noodle with chicken and shrimp though I didn't get any shrimp but either way the chicken was wonderful! High quality ingredients and came out pretty fast. Prices were a bit high $19 dollars for a fast casual counter type place but overall we will come back and a great addition to the sellwood foodie scene
google avatar

Ben C.

Yelp
The courtyard dining in quaint Sellwood is why you come. You will find a line out onto the sidewalk if you come an hour after opening. What you might like: our meal was light in flavors. Salad Rolls are basic and house peanut sauce is slightly nutty and thick. Soup depth is delicate, nothing overwhelming. Papaya Salad has a fresh crunch without the bitter. Sticky rice was a treat in weak coconut and sweetness. A fitting comfort setting in this walkable neighborhood. *Folks love to chill and have longish conversations over a couple drinks, so do not expect to find seating at a normal rate of wait.
google avatar

Juniper K.

Yelp
I love the aesthetic and vibe of this place! I had the coconut noodles with chicken and it was so good!

Emma M.

Yelp
Service and food are great! The gf udon noodles and fried spring rolls are so yummy. Restaurant is cozy inside with a large patio when the weather is good.

Yelp
With gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, and vegan options, Jade is pretty great for those who want a fresh and healthy meal. I especially like their chicken and shrimp soup or vegetarian soup for when I've gotten the Covid shots. It's warm and homey, with homemade gluten-free noodles, and it always helps me feel better! in a town where soups are often jam-packed with spices, it can be hard to find a soup that fits my needs when feeling ill, and Jade has it. They also have delicious fish dishes, salads, and pastries, like sesame balls, which I'd never had until Jade. Their prices are a tad high and they can be very crowded (so we only get take out), but, it's a great place to get some healthy comfort food.
google avatar

Casey B.

Yelp
Five stars does not do this place justice, if I could give them 10 I would! Extremely helpful staff who very patiently answered (and double checked when they felt it was necessary) all of our allergy questions. We have had both takeout and now dine outside and both meals were positively delicious. The fried pork spring rolls were amazing in flavor, had a lovely variety of lettuce and fresh herbs to go along with, and the cold vermicelli noodles and side of flavored fish sauce-- one could eat this as a meal!! We also enjoyed the Kaho Soi upon recommend of others on yelp. A not oily pork soup, with a light yet flavorful broth and a nice crunch with the fresh spinach and lettuce. Feeling under the weather or want to eat clean, try the chicken rice soup, simply yet the ultimate comfort food. Love eggplant? Us too-- we will never visit without an order of the basil eggplant it is just THAT GOOD. Anyone eating gluten free, vegan and/or low carb (or a mix) would LOVE and have plenty of options here. Outdoor seating is available both out front and on the side and is covered for anyone looking to sit outdoors even in rain it is possible to easily stay dry.

Yelp
I love Jade Teahouse because it is the first place I ate when I moved to Portland and it always delivers a delicious meal and delicious and affordable dessert. The staff is knowledgeable and super efficient and there is usually parking in the area. I also love the Antique store next door. Lovely date night spot or a great lunch meeting locale! Ended up being more affordable than where we went for happy hour the day before. We got two entrees, two desserts, and a pot of tea for two, all under $35.00.
google avatar

Violet C.

Yelp
A solid 3. Still good in many ways, but some things just aren't as good as they used to be. The sesame balls are hard and chewy. The pad Thai was pretty ok. Missing some flavor. It was ok.

D H.

Yelp
My husband and I always enjoy coming here for lunch particularly. I think all of the dishes we've tried are tasty! I am a nut for their sesame balls for dessert! Food is consistently good. Service at the counter is very efficient. Table busing sometimes not as quick as we would wish so we can go ahead and seat ourselves. I even offered to clean a couple of tables last visit so my family and I could go ahead and sit down. I was happy to do it to get the table ready. Suddenly we got a very friendly staff member to jump in and clean it for us. They always have a busy place and are eager to get one's orders placed. Along the same lines, I am eager to get a table once our order is placed. That being said, this is a place we enjoy rotating back through on a fairly regular basis.

Yelp
Warm and cozy spot on a cold rainy day I'm Portland. Sat by the window and caught up with a friend from out of town. It's become one of our usual spots. We enjoyed truffle fries, shrimp vegetable rolls and large jasmine tea. Staff is always friends and kind. Food is always delicious!
google avatar

Ally F.

Yelp
The Bao Buns are the highlight, they are massive and so fluffy. I also enjoyed the lemon cookie, it was super light. The Thai iced tea was too sweet, pure sugar taste. I'd like to go back and try their regular teas instead. Super sweet staff!
google avatar

Yelp
Biked over here today for a lunch date- and couldn't believe how packed this place was! The lunch rush is REAL when it comes to Jade, so be prepared to be creative in finding a seat while waiting a bit longer for your food. I noticed about 5 tables with plates and cups, just waiting to be cleaned. We were in a huge line of folks nervous about finding a table (don't forget you can eat upstairs), but I was curious as to why these tables weren't being cleaned up and ready for new customers. As a previous review mentioned, this place might be understaffed- and due to not having enough employees you might see some dirty tables during the lunch rush. We ordered a variety of goodies, pictured includes a veggie bao bun, salad rolls with chicken and tofu, and many, many baked goods. All great food- tasty and filling! Huge shout out to the salad rolls, they came with a GORGEOUS peanut sauce that I would inhale every day if I could. I know I'll be back and probably update this review to 5 stars. Just a bit grumpy about the tons of tables that weren't being cleaned for customers waiting for tables.

Yelp
I use to love this place... I went in tonight, not busy, and got way over done spring rolls, like greasy hard shell-cut-your-mouth-up, spring rolls. Ingredients had boiled out and burnt on the outside. Just not edible. I did get a tofu sandwich to go and had three tiny leaves of cilantro inside. When I asked for more I was given Two bare-Ish stems and a box. Got home 30 mins later and the bread is seriously stale and hard. Not crusty then soft. Just hard through and through with no flavor. Maybe a bad night? Not sure that would be true with the horrible "French style baguette" I will save the trip and dollars and go to best baguette in the future. Spring rolls are better anywhere else. They where terrible. Sorry but true.

Yelp
Yummy food. Good vegan options. Clean, comfortable atmosphere. We eat here a lot and often bring out of town friends and family.

Curtis K.

Yelp
Had three Thai dishes - yellow curry, Vermicelli pork salad and Pad Thai, along with Vietnamese ice coffee. As one who has been to Vietnam and Thailand more than dozen times, I could not help but feel that this was Thai food made for Americans, who don't know the real deal. Only the vermicelli was good, and that was quite good. The Pad Thai was a bit plain without the extras that are standards: raw bean sprouts, ground peanuts and the 4-jar fish oil-chili set. The curry was more soup (Isan style?) than curry. The Vietnamese Ice coffee goo did not use the awesome coffee grounds from Vietnam nor the usual drip into a glass setup. We were a bit disappointed, much preferring other places like Chaba, Thai Chili , and Peacock. Atmosphere was good though.

Yelp
I frequently visit Portland from New York and I almost always make a trip to this restaurant when I am here as I typically stay in the area. However. even if I were not in the area I would like come across town to have a meal here. In NYC I live in a heavily Southeast Asian neighborhood; I also have been to SE Asia several times. So, I know what this food is supposed to taste like, and this place has some really great food that is on par with the same kind of food I have had elsewhere. Everything I have tried has been good, and I keep returning, sometimes ordering past favorites and sometimes trying items new to me. And they are accommodating of dietary restrictions; I have a nut allergy and my dining companion whom I usually eat here with is gluten intolerant, and we have never had a problem. The place is super casual, with customer asked to line up at the register to place their orders and be given a number. The staff then brings the food to the table. Usually the amount of time it takes for the food to come out is perfectly reasonable. The young men behind the counter are efficient, friendly, and handsome too(!), and they are consistently welcoming and accommodating. There are a number of pastries available in the front case (that reflect SE Asia's colonial heritage) which are quite good basing my opinion on those I have tried. And further, the iced tea is very good. Very highly recommended.
google avatar

Cheri H.

Yelp
I'm visiting in Portland and my son took me to jades. You go to the register to order food , they give you a number and then give you glasses for water. You can choose to sit inside or two areas outside. We ordered cashew chicken and pork fried rice. The wait was quite long. At first we waited inside. The place was crowded and loud. (But when you are eating somewhere you want it crowded) Then we went outside. I ordered a black iced tea. It was so good. (You get one free refill) Probably the best ice tea I ever had. My son had a beer. He ordered pork fried rice. I ordered cashew chicken. White rice came with my dinner. My dinner was better then the pork fried rice. It was tastier. The pork fried rice was good too but kind of mushy. Great flavor. Overall. The place was nice. Not fancy but great sitting areas and good food. Great vibe. The only thing I would say that could be improved is the white rice portion. It was small

Yelp
I just moved to the area and order from Jade twice a week, as they have phenomenal gluten free options. My favorite dishes are the wide noodles with tofu, and the Udon soup. ALSO you HAVE to get the sesame balls - pro tip: they aren't always on Toast Tab so you need to order them in-person when you pick up! They are heavenly with their caramel sauce. I have to force myself not to go here nightly simply for the sesame balls. Highly suggest for GF friends!

Yelp
We arrived a half hour before they opened and were standing out in the rain. An older gentleman came out and welcomed us in for some tea until the kitchen was open. The only thing more outstanding then the delicious food is the kindness and consideration of the people who run this place. Thank you for being a bright light in this neighborhood!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is absolutely amazing. The pastries, the pho, the dumplings - their chicken rice soup. I have loved every single thing I have ever had here. And gluten free!

Yelp
Sellwood area Vietnamese place with an Americanized menu and a French twist! (They serve macaroons in luscious flavors-- pistachio, caramel, raspberry, chocolate, and more, alongside sesame paste balls with or without caramel sauce)! We ordered the red snapper and the green beans with chicken and shrimp, both fresh and delicious and served with jasmine rice. We also had a Rose brand pot of tea in the large size, which was plenty for 2-3 and served piping hot. Oh yes, and the sesame balls were good! The only glitch was in the slow service when ready to go. It was about 15 min before someone checked on us and asked if we wanted a box for leftovers (we did). We were upstairs, so perhaps they forgot about us. The service was otherwise pleasant and the food came out quickly when ready. Note: the customer in front of us tried to order the Salmon in banana leaf-- they were out (at 6pm...no banana leaves. Then he tried to order another fish and was told they were also out of that. At that point, I'd have been pretty frustrated but the customer kept his cool and apologized to us for taking so long to order. Really, shouldn't the counter staff apologize? Anyway, order as you go in and enjoy any number of great dishes. My daughter's bf gives it a thumbs up-- and he is Vietnamese! I'd definitely go back. And maybe sit outside, or downstairs :)

Yelp
Incredibly gluten free friendly and absolutely delicious food! We had the Pad Se Ew, Fried Spring Rolls, Minced Chicken along with a Thai Iced Tea, Lavender Macaroon and Key Lime Tart. All were arguably the best version of these dishes I've ever had!

Yelp
Jade Bistro is one of our local favorites. Their Thai tea is on point - which is important. Every dish I've ordered from here has been delicious. My favorites are the Sesame Beef/Heavenly Beef and the Pad Khing Pork Belly. They have sooo many gluten free options to choose from, some of the pastries are even gluten free, I love the lavender macarons! The staff is always very friendly. The restaurant is always clean and we like the atmosphere. The patio in the spring/summer/fall is really nice. I highly recommend Jade Bistro and Teahouse!

Yelp
Love this place in SW Portland. Jade is a fusion of Southeast Asian food from Japanese to Thai to Indonesian. I usually get the fresh salad rolls, satay, green papaya salad and sometimes the Tom Yum soup aka "Sweet and Sour Soup" on the menu. The fresh salad rolls are great. The wrapping isn't dried out and still tender. The roll is simple; it's just shrimp, lettuce, bell pepper, cucumber and cilantro rolled in rice paper with a peanut sauce. The green papaya salad was good but could have used more spice and flavor. There were julienned green papaya, carrots, tomatoes, chili peppers, peanuts, long beans, tamarind, lime juice & grilled shrimp. It comes with savory sticky rice. I tried the Bistro Burger...never though of ordering a burger at an Asian restaurant, but it was good. It's made with lemongrass-infused Angus beef, lettuce, tomato, pickled red onion, and Tillamook cheddar. So far I haven't been disappointed.

Yelp
OMG! I hadn't been to Jade in quite a while, when much to my surprise, I found myself outside their doors, hungry, but really wanting something different than what I would usually order and enjoy. I don't know who or what otherworld spirit guided me, but I randomly ordered the Chicken Burger ($12), you get a choice of sides, and once again, as if possesed by something wiser than me, I chose the Truffle Fries (I had plenty of salad at home I could always eat with it if I felt the urge.) *Side note #1 - I'd had the fries there years ago, and all of my friends love them, but for some reason I wasn't overly impressed the one time I had them. That was in until now!* As I said, something or someone outside the realm of my reality made me do it. I didn't read the description or ask any questions, I just ordered, paid, and ran a quick errand before returning to pick up my order. *Side note #2 - In order to write an accurate review I looked up the menu description, it reads "Tender patty of ground chicken and mushrooms marinated in red curry on a homemade bun with Tillamook cheese and chutney. Choice of truffle oil french fries, salad or chicken and rice soup. (contains gluten) First let me say, all of my friends who have told me they love the Truffle Fries are 100% correct. They were excellent. Golden brown and just barely crispy on the outside with a fabulous flavor. And the burger, honestly, I don't know what to say except it was super yummy and big. I ate the fries and about 1/3 of the burger with a little bit of salad I had at home, and I was completely satisfied and my appetite was sated. Side note #3 - I ate the rest of the burger, with some TJ's kale salad on the side, for lunch the following day. It was just as good. I enjoyed the burger so much I went back within a few days and ordered it again, yes, I stuck to the fries, this time I ate about 1/2 of the burger and all of the fries for dinner and once again, at the rest for lunch the following day. Facts: The homemade buns is yummy. The patty is juicy and soooo tasty. The chutney is really what pushes it all over the top into the "I want to eat that again soon" catagory. Side note #4 - What's not listed in the menu description is the fact that it has a large, fresh, lettuce leaf and a thick, but not too thick, slice of tomato on that bun as well. To wrap this up and put a nice bow on it, Jade was great when it opened, it's been consistently good for over a decade, and it delights me whenever I try something new.
