On the Grid : Jake's Ice Cream

"Lovely local ice cream shop that has an extensive history in the city of Atlanta and makes you feel good without being too kitschy or trying too hard. Word on the street is that they've beaten out other far more gigantic ice cream competitors in blind taste tests and it's well-known to be probably the most inviting place to grab a scoop or other sweet in the neighborhood." - Steven Johnson Studio

11 Best Ice Cream Shops In Atlanta - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"Anyone old enough to remember the Hawk’s Pac-Man logo will more than likely have a fond memory of Jake’s Ice Cream, an Atlanta classic that opened its doors in Old Fourth Ward back in 1999.  Now it’s situated in a corner of a small plaza near downtown Hapeville, but it remains a great place for cones and cups in standard flavors that don’t venture too far into the wild but strike the perfect balance of sweetness and flavor. Try the Kiss of the Leprechaun—mint ice cream with chocolate chips—when you're wanting something refreshingly cool, or the Brown Shugah Vanilla—a delicious city treasure that deserves its own Georgia historical marker." - jacinta howard

Jake's Ice Cream Review - Hapeville - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"Jake’s Ice Cream is an ATL classic that first opened its doors in Old Fourth Ward back in 1999. Now situated in a corner of a small plaza near downtown Hapeville, the small, cutesy shop draws folks in search of their signature creamy, sweet ice cream. On warmer days, expect a small crowd gathered outside the tiny space, though the wait is never too long. It's a great place for cones and cups in standard flavors that don’t venture too far into the wild but strike the perfect balance of sweetness and flavor. Try the 'Kiss of the Leprechaun'—mint ice cream with chocolate chips—when you're wanting something refreshingly cool." - Jacinta Howard

After doing dinner in Downtown Hapeville I needed a sweet fix. After doing a search on Yelp I stumbled upon Jake's Ice Cream. As Jake's Ice Cream is right next to the Downtown area I decided to walk over. Jake's Ice Cream sits in the back of the main strip but is super easy to find. Along with the easy find, there is also ample parking available. Walking into Jake's Ice Cream the location is super bright. The brightness puts you in a happy place as you are hit with the smells of the sweet cream and waffle cones. The ambiance is vibrant and fun. The is seating indoors as well as a few tables outside. This is the perfect location for any occasion. As I was basking in the goodness of the smells I walked up to the freezer and was excited by every flavor I saw. LoL! As I was in the mood for every single flavor, I decided to do the Red Velvet Cheesecake Ice Cream in a cup. All I know is, my cup was full. I blinked. My cup was empty. I think the ice cream evaporated. lol. In all seriousness though, my ice cream was amazing. It was smooth, creamy, and perfectly sweetened. The ratio of red velvet to vanilla ice cream was perfect as each flavor was represented and sat well with the cheesecake decadence. Whoever made this blend understands the power of portion control and creamy goodness. I decided to sit outside as I enjoyed my ice cream which added a sense of summer to my fall experience. All in all, Jake's Ice Cream is amazing and this will not be my last time. I have so many more flavors to try.

I love this shop, the ice cream taste really good and they have fun flavors! So glad I stumbled across it. I love the fruity pebble and brown sugar vanilla.

Sunday in Atlanta offers a delightful opportunity for enjoyment. Spend a pleasant day with your companion exploring the city. As temperatures get warmer, consider visiting Jake’s Ice Cream, where you'll find an impressive variety of delicious options. With so many tempting choices available, it's hard to go wrong, and you might find yourself wishing to try everything they offer.

When will Jake's reopen? I have gone a few times over the past few months and they have been closed every time. Publicize a plan on your website to help the public know when you are open. P.S.-And thank you for your reply. I am a fair reviewer and will happily amend my review once you reopen. My only suggestion was to share on the website what is going on as I did not know about a machine repair. I have no ill will towards you and support local businesses. I am sure you are frustrated and while I don't feel the need to go elsewhere as you suggested, I will be happy to try your ice cream and rate it once I am able. Good luck on the repair.

Best icecream around, hands down! I had the sweet potato pie flavor and it was amazing. Friendly staff, and the owners are cool.

Finally went to Jakes Ice Cream at their new location in Hapeville. I imagine that they will need to grow the business here. The ice cream was good but not the amount of ice cream choices but enough choices to satisfy your ice cream fix.

I came here at 7:00pm to get icecream. Google says the business hours are till 8:00pm on a Friday. There was a note on the door that said "Icecream machine not working" and the open sign was off. We went in assuming that we could still get scoopable icecream because there was a crowd of people in there. When we walked in everyone was kinda standing around awkwardly until someone said to us "This is a cooking class". I drove all the way up there and they closed their business during NORMAL business hours to host a cooking class? If you aren't going to be open then please update your hours on Google. Most of us use Google to see if a place is open before we come.

Always a treat when you don’t have to leave your township to get good quality ice cream. I haven’t tried all the flavors but the Blueberry Basil, Delta’s Delight, Tropical Sunshine and Diesel Fuel are all worth a taste. Staff is friendly. Excited to see this spot get a donut and ice cream concept.
