Houston Restaurant Openings to Know Right Now, March 2025 | Eater Houston

"A new Pearland concept that fuses Cajun and Mexican flavors into burritos, bowls, and tacos, launched earlier this year by chef Michael J. Brown and his wife Adrienne, who previously ran an acclaimed food truck of the same name. The format is similar to Chipotle: offerings are built on jambalaya rice and topped with items like red beans and Creole collards, with protein options including carne asada, fried catfish, pulled pork, and barbecue shrimp. Condiments include Bayou Blaze roasted corn salsa and Cajun sour cream; the menu also features gumbo. The spot is currently open for takeout and delivery only." - Brittany Britto Garley

Chef Michael J. Brown’s Cajun-by-way-of-burrito concept serves catfish, carne asada, red beans, and collards wrapped or bowled. Covered by the Houston Chronicle and led by a chef once lauded by The New York Times, it’s fast-casual with personality.

Happy I lucked up on this restaurant! The food was amazing and flavorful!! The service was top notch the lady that assisted us was so welcoming. Food, service, and cleanliness 10 out of 10 ⭐️

I’m from Atlanta & found this place on TikTok months ago. When I finally made it Houston, I knew I had to try it and when I say it did NOT disappoint!! I had a burrito and my friend got the bowl but we started eating before we thought to take pictures. The woman who served us was very friendly and read my mind offering us samples because we couldn’t decide what to get. We both got half catfish & half shrimp Alfreda which had like a spicy Cajun Alfredo sauce. Everything was 10/10 I had to call back to let them know because it was THAT good. The burrito was HUGE because they give you good servings of everything. I will definitely be back next time I’m in Houston!

It was our first time there felt weird not to have seating, but allow us to go take a break and enjoy outside. Our team got one of the bowls and one of the burritos. We got to Support restaurant week for Pearland and the Pearland neighborhood center.

I just left this restaurant after anticipating the experience and I was very underwhelmed. Supporting local businesses is extremely important to me especially being a business owner myself. I'm also a foodie that is a stickler for fresh hot food. I was given a sample of the etouffee and the taste was good but the temperature was not to my liking. So I politely asked the nice young lady serving to please heat my crawfish etouffee bowl. She kindly expressed the food was just made fresh and it was hot. Meanwhile, I'm looking at the tray and can clearly see there is no steam coming from the bottom. I reiterated my strong preference to have HOT food and to please zap it with some heat, she again politely refused my request and proceeded to prepare my to go order. So because this wasnt going anywhere, I decided to take my food as is and with my eager taste buds to dove into my food, I immediately opened it up and NOT TO MY SURPRISE it was as I suspected......room temperature. So now as I head to a gas station to warm my food, I decided to share this feedback in the hopes it will be taken with deep consideration. To the owner and those working these small businesses that look like me..... the ability to resolve a situation will make or break ones experience. Meeting my request to simply warm my food would have made my day. Let's do better as a community. Be blessed.

Great food first time there. Doesn’t get too much better than good soul food from here. The burrito was delicious. I will definitely be back

The food was just okay—nothing special. The flavors didn’t come together as I expected, and some dishes missed the mark. The rice was too thick, and the crawfish etouffee was overly rouxy. On the bright side, the catfish and BBQ shrimp were good, and the staff was friendly. Overall, it was an average experience, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to return.

I’ve been wanting to come here for months after seeing a review of the restaurant on TikTok. I live in San Antonio currently so everytime I’m in Houston I’ve been trying to make it down . Luckily I came at the right time and this place didn’t disappoint. Upon walking in an extremely kind employee by the name of Kelvin helped walk me through the process of ordering. I had order e a shrimp burrito and It was everything I expected. With me being pescatarian I was very pleased by the fact they don’t add pork to any of their items such as the jambalaya rice and the greens as well as a cabbage. I will definitely be recommending this spot to all my friends in the Houston area as you are spending the same amount here as you would at chipotle and the serving size is just as good if not better. As far as the quality of food you should already know this place clears chipotle in probably every category. I definitely look forward to coming back. The customer service was exceptional. Amazing job by the entire staff from the top down on creating such a welcoming establishment.

Found this place on a whim just driving around looking for something to eat. It was one of those “nothing looks good” days but I’m so glad I walked in. Josh helped me and his customer service was top notch, he explained how to order and what my options were. Everything looked delicious and fresh. I went with a blackened catfish bowl and I have to say the red beans are some of the best I’ve had. As soon as I got to the car I had to taste it and I ate almost half before I left 😂The portion is huge too for the price. I’ll definitely be back!

Yelp
I am so happy I got to try Jamburritos. Though they were skimpy with the portion amount, I am throughly impressed with the taste of it. I love anything that has a kick to it. And this did not disappoint. I got the chicken Alfredo bowl. Next time I will get the burrito. The service was great. I told them it was my first time coming and asked what he would recommend and he assisted me with it what' should go in the bowl and what he recommends being put to the side. It's a cute, small place, where, you can't eat inside, but that's okay. This is the kind of food you take home and eat with your fave book or tv show. Try it. You won't be sorry.

Yelp
I tried this spot after seeing it on TikTok. It's a grab and go- very nice for a quick lunch. It's basically like Chipotle but Cajun style. I got two blackened catfish bowls each with different sides to try variations.... I will say the spice profile is a bit much for me, I thought it was too heavy and just a tad too much heat overall. The flavor was nice though. My least favorite item was the greens- they tasted canned tbh. I really liked the red beans and the corn salsa. My son got the shrimp Alfredo which I tried a bite of and it was VERY good. If I do stop in again, I'll definitely get the alfredo #2025BIGBACKONTHEFENCE

Yelp
Nothing bad to say about Jamburritos or the visit I had at all. I don't think Cajun cuisine chipotle style is for me. What I ordered: Bowl White rice Chicken Alfredo and Crawfish Etoufee On the side I added- tartar sauce, lettuce, and collard greens. The concept is for all of the toppings to be added to the main dish. Yeah I wasn't too sure about that. Overall each item was good in its own but mixing them together like a chipotle style bowl I don't think I was ready for.

Yelp
Customer service was a 10! I came in not really sure what I wanted, and they were super helpful walking me through the options. They have burritos, tacos, and bowls. I went with a bowl, and it was delicious. The burritos seem like it would be huge with the combinations....probably big enough to split with someone. You can also have your ingredients separated if you like. It's kind of like a Cajun-style Chipotle, and it's such a fun twist on dinner. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
This place has been on the pearland list because I was intrigued by their concept of a soulfood bowl. When we pulled up there was plenty parking but we were surprised by the no seating in the resturant. They are in a prime shopping area where people want to shop then sit and eat. The customer service was good. The explained the bowl options. I chose the crawfish etouffe option. It was okay. It was peppery but lacked some regular seasoning. The cabbage was good. Didn't care for the greens. I think I just expected more

Yelp
I've been contemplating coming to Jamburritos for quite some time now after I seen an ad on Instagram. I was skeptical because of the "Chipotle" style cajun food seemed a bit odd but you rarely can go wrong with black owned cajun cuisine in Houston. I went ahead and got me a bowl with Jambalaya Rice, Crawfish Etouffee, Blackened Catfish (which counts as 2 proteins) and Creole Cabbage. I also got the 6 mini cornbread muffins and they are soooooo yummy. I brought my food home and swiftly ate about half my meal and got full. It was TOOO good. I'm fighting the itis just typing this review. The owner and employee were super nice and welcoming and the restaurant seemed to be very clean as well. Only thing I would say is I feel like if I add a second protein to my one bowl I shouldn't pay the price of two whole bowls...but overall such a full filling meal, experience and customer service. I will definitely be back and I'm looking forward to seeing this business prosper.

Yelp
First time here, the server was good and explained how it works and suggested items. The selections were appealing. I chose the burrito and my sister got a bowl, we shared a bowl of the gumbo. The concept was good but the food was underwhelming to say the least.

Yelp
Service amazing! Small take out spot in a great location/ shopping center in Pearland. I was really excited about getting a bowl, and so were other people inside and coming in. It was a nice little crowd! But I was so sadly let down once we made it home with our order. I order a cajun chicken and bbq shrimp bowl with fried cabbage, roasted corn and the Cajun sauce on the side. Needless to say the sauce is just ranch with Cajun seasoning; I can do without it! Everything is literally covered in this "Cajun" seasoning; overly and it's too much. Idk if it's seafood boil or what it is exactly but it was a hard no for me. Even my mother who's from Louisiana couldn't put her hand on the flavor that was a miss. It's overwhelming the taste of the actual meats and veggies. I only ate 1/4 of it and threw it away. Then I went to Dona Letis for to go heading back to ATX! Lol

Yelp
Today was my first time trying this restaurant and I'm highly satisfied. Kelvin was so nice, helpful & respectful. He literally explained every menu item to me & was very patient. I got to meet the owner who was also very well spoken & very helpful. The food met the standard of my taste buds. This place is family owned & black owned. I'm coming back with my friends!!!

Stephanie B.

Yelp
I walked into Jamburritos for my first time & was kindly greeted by Tiffany who explained in detail all of my options when I told her it was my first time! I ordered a bowl with such good and FLAVORFUL options. This is a take out sort of location and is amazing for a quick bite! I can't wait to try more options.

Yelp
Server was very helpful and food was good. Takeout only, is a drawback for me. Unique food options

Yelp
I came during the soft opening. I think it's a cool concept, a bit pricey but a decent amount of food. Employees were friendly and answered all my questions.

Roland S.

Yelp
I got the chicken burrito with all the fixings. The variety of toppings are all amazing.

Krysten B.

Yelp
this food was absolutely disgusting. i spent $30 for a plate of throw up! everything immediately came back up this is so nasty. the catfish is fishy and the etoufee was horrible and stale nothing fresh!

Sha B.

Yelp
Food was amazing. Customer service was also pleasant. It took me 2 days to finish the blackened catfish burrito. Was even better the next day. It was a little pricey for the portions on the etoufee bowl though. But overall it was good.

Erica B.

Yelp
Went today and ordered the barbecue shrimp bowl. Shrimp was way too seasoned. I couldn't finish eating it. Please hold back on the seasoning. My son had the blackened catfish bowl and said it was good.

Yelp
This place is next door to Italiano's in Pearland on Broadway. The food is so good. I plan on trying everything on the menu. The service was great. They explained everything you could do or try. Nice! The ambiance is not there because it's a take out or catering business. You will enjoy the food from this restaurant.
