J&G Steakhouse at the Phoenician – Elevated Dining with a Minor Letdown
We recently dined at J&G Steakhouse at the Phoenician, and the experience was overall very good, with standout food, excellent service, and just one disappointing detail worth noting.
To start, we shared the French onion soup. The kitchen thoughtfully split it for us, which was a nice touch and set the tone for the night. The soup was warm, flavorful, and satisfying — not the best I’ve had, but definitely a solid and comforting way to begin the meal.
Following that, we had the black truffle cheese fritters — six in total. These were outstanding. Rich, hot, and savory with plenty of truffle flavor, they were a highlight. That said, you do need to enjoy truffle to fully appreciate them, but for us, they were a hit.
For the main course, we both ordered the 19-ounce bone-in ribeye, cooked medium-rare. Haley’s steak came out perfect — beautifully seared and full of aged flavor. Unfortunately, mine arrived very overdone, more of a medium-well. While the staff promptly took it back and corrected it, the recook took about 15–20 minutes. While I appreciate that they got it right the second time, I was a little surprised that nothing was offered — no comped dessert or gesture — for the extended wait and initial miss, especially at a restaurant of this caliber.
We finished the night by sharing the carrot cake, and I have to say, it was a pleasant surprise. I’m not usually a carrot cake person, but this one was moist, well-balanced, and absolutely delicious — a great way to end the meal.
Final Thoughts:
Service was excellent throughout — attentive and professional. The food was mostly outstanding, and the atmosphere was what you’d expect from a fine dining spot at the Phoenician. While the mishap with my steak did dampen the flow of the evening, it was handled well, and overall, I’d still recommend J&G for a high-quality steakhouse experience. Just a little more attention to recovery would’ve made it flawless.
