18 Essential South Bay Restaurants

"Korean food is surprisingly good in the South Bay thanks to the sizeable Korean population. Jang Su Jang, which opened in the former Da Maat plaza on Sepulveda Boulevard, opened in a sleek, wide-open dining room on the corner of the strip mall that draws lines on weekends. Order the fried fish, sundubu jjigae, old-style bulgogi served in a hot pot, or stone pot bibimbap across a menu that spans the greatest hits of Korean cuisine." - Matthew Kang

This is a clean and spacious Korean restaurant. The arrangement of tables and seats is not very narrow. The interior decoration is very new. It is said that it was reopened after renovation. The attitude of the waiters is also very attentive and kind, and the dining experience is quite good. In terms of food, whether it is BBQ beef short ribs or seafood soon tofu soup, the taste is not too salty and suits our appetite. The 8 side dishes included also taste suitable, among which the apple salad is my favorite.

Google
Fun and comfortable space in the South Bay. They do all of the classics well, but I would call out their soondubu and their bossam as really solid. Their mandu was good as well, same as their marinated pork. Service was prompt and they have a ton of banchan that are refilled as much as you want Easy parking with a free parking lot

Google
This is a great Korean restaurant serving up traditional Korean dishes. Food was very tasty and not too greasy or salty. Prices reasonable for the area. Service quick and ample free parking in parking lot. Location on the google maps is the same place as a former French battery shop now closed.

Google
The BEST korean food in the SouthBay, finally! True korean recipes, not watered down or lazily put together like garbage (Gaya Korean Tofu & Grill down the street is beyond subpar garbage, I avoid it like cancer).

Ordered Dolsot Bimbimbap (bimbimbap with beef in a hot stone bowl), Beef Bulgogi, and Yachae Pajeon (vegetable pancake). There are a lot of side dishes that come with a meal so it was good to sample a bit of everything, great taste, good quality kimchi. The Dolsot Bimbimbap was a very visually appealing bowl and a sunny side up egg in the middle. Mixed together, this made a very delicious dish with the gochujang sauce that you can add to the dish. The rice is soft and it may be difficult to scrape the burnt rice at the bottom but it gives the rice a nice crunch too. The Beef Bulgogi has a nice sweetness and the portion was alright to share. The Yachae Pajeon was my favorite dish here. The pancake is thicker than you would expect; light and fluffy, it tastes really good with the assorted vegetables inside. This is a great place to bring a group together for a meal or to have a meal of your own. This is located in a plaza with ample parking. It does get busy during dinner so there may be a wait to be seated. Staff are kind but are very quick to ask for your order.

Everything here is great. From the service to the food to the banchan. They're very attentive to your needs whether it's more hot tea or ride or other amenities provide which essentially is unlimited banchan that also delicious on top of refillable. Most of their dishes are very good with a good variety ranging from bibimbap to Korean cold noodles to soon tofu and their mandoo dumplings. Their prices might be higher but their portions are also really big so it doesn't seem that expensive in that regard. I personally really like their Japchae and bulgogi bibimbap.

Google
We are fans of the old Torrance Da Maat and Jang Su Jang in the Bay Atea, we are so excited that they expanded and slightly moved to the new larger corner spot. The main reason we like it is they offer wider selections of Korean dishes beyond the typical tofu, BBQ, and bibimbap (which we love, too!) Our experience was excellent. There is always a line, but the 20 minutes wait was more like 10-minutes for us at 5:30pm on a busy Saturday. We tried the following: - Ddukbokki : rice cake and fish cakes in sweat and spicy soup. This is #7 on the appetizer side, served on a fire pot. It’s highly recommended, especially on a cold evening. It’s not too spicy. I especially like the al dente rice cakes! - Hamul Pajeon: seafood pancake, #6 on the Appetizer side. Always good for each person to have one and take the rest home! - Beef Dolsot: the bibimbap served on a hot stone bowl, choice of beef, chicken, pork, or vegetarian. It was delicious! - Woogouji Galbitang: beef rib soup with cabbages, #5 on the right hand side. This one didn’t standout compared to other amazing dishes. However, I do like the soup and the beef rib was tender and tasty. The new location still has the wall of bowls as decor, but it’s much brighter and ‘open’ than before. I immediately noticed the seats are more comfortable as well. Food was served very quickly, first the complimentary small appetizers (7 dishes). The rest of the dishes also all came out pretty quickly. This would work well if everyone orders their own, but we were doing family style, next time, we would have them serve in two batches so we can enjoy some dishes first. Tips: There are two rooms that can be reserved for parties. The inside room fits 16, it’s a private setting especially with the door closed. The outside one fits 22, it’s surrounded by glass windows so it’s very nice and bright though less privacy. Parking: plenty and free. Ps, we also met the owner/manager, Heyoung, she was warm and friendly, offered to pack our to-to items.

I don't know if we came here for the wrong thing. My husband and I both ordered the soon tofu, I got spicy and he got extra spicy x2, both were not spicy at all. I feel like the banchan were all missing some flavors. We got the pork over arugula which was pretty good but felt like it was too dry like there needed to be a sauce.

Yelp
I'm still reeling from my incredible dining experience at Jang Su Jang, a gem in the heart of the city! As a tofu enthusiast, I was blown away by the sheer variety and creativity of their Korean-inspired tofu dishes. From the moment we walked in, the service was top-notch - our server was knowledgeable, attentive, and happy to make recommendations. The atmosphere was cozy and intimate, with a modern twist on traditional Korean decor. But the real star of the show was, of course, the food. We started with the Bossam Jang, which is steamed pork slices that we wrapped with cabbage or radish. I got the mild Korean beef tofu soup. It was pretty good, but I feel like the meat was a little too chewy. In short, Jang Su Jang is a must-visit for anyone who loves Korean cuisine, tofu, or just great food in general. Can't wait to come back and try more of their incredible dishes!

Yelp
So many delicious vegetables!! The banchan and dol sot bibimbap was delicious! Kalbi was spot on with the chat The bossam fell short! There was more meat than vegetables to wrap with. I wanted some raw garlic and bean paste to accompany. Service was great. We were seated in their private room and service was fast!

Yelp
I love this place! We went to the Torrance location when it was Da Maat! We like new expanded set up and extra seating. You can't go wrong with the food (not Korean myself so can't speak to the authenticity of it, but everything tastes amazing!).

Yelp
Didn't expect to find this wonderful restaurant here. The restaurant has modern decor with great service. Food was delicious. We ordered a variety to share. My favorite was the hot stone bibimbop (forgot to take a picture). The purple rice that came with the tofu dish was a bit too soft. I think it's because they served the rice in a bowl and not in a stone pot. So there's no crispy rice at the bottom. Side dishes are what you would expect. Lots of parking in the plaza. Will definitely visit again.

Yelp
Ate here on a Sunday for an early dinner, and we were seated right away. Parking was also really easy to find since this plaza has a large lot. I was really craving seafood bibimbap, so I ordered the nakji dolsot bibimbap. It didn't have the same toppings as a traditional veggie bibimbap, but instead came with spicy stir fried octopus, kimchi, and chopped herbs. After mixing, it's similar to kimchi fried rice. Flavor was amazing and it really hit the spot! And the crispy rice from the hot stone bowl was such a treat at the end of my meal. The rest of our party ordered bossam, galbi, and mandoo. Everyone really enjoyed their food. Our server was very kind and attentive. And our food was served with a wide range of banchan. The restaurant was very clean and had a modern feel to it. I'll definitely be eating here again!

Yelp
Date of Visit: Last Sunday, right before 12 PM We visited Jang Su Jang after church, with a group of seven. It was pretty busy, and we waited about 15 minutes before being seated. The atmosphere is modern and family-friendly, located in a great spot in Torrance near King's Hawaiian. The service, however, left something to be desired. They provided the traditional banchan (side dishes like kimchi, pickled vegetables, etc.), but not in portions that matched the size of our group. When my daughter asked for more of a particular side, the server said we had to finish everything first before getting more. While I understand their policy, it became frustrating as we had to wait a long time for refills, with empty dishes piling up in the meantime. It's not ideal for customers to have to repeatedly ask for something as simple as side dish refills. As for the food, the tofu soup was decent, but nothing extraordinary. I typically order tofu with ham and sausage at other tofu houses, but they didn't offer that option here. I also noticed they don't serve the fried or grilled fish on the side, which is a staple at many other Korean tofu spots. The lack of variety compared to other tofu houses stood out, but it wasn't a deal-breaker. Overall, Jang Su Jang has a convenient location and a nice atmosphere, but the service and menu options could be improved. If you're in the Torrance area, it might be worth trying, but there are better tofu houses out there if you're looking for variety or top-tier service.

Yelp
I am a huge fan. I went to Cho Dang for years and have been happy to see them expand. I love their banchan, hot stone bibimbap and medium spicy beef tofu soup (with egg). I miss the roasted seaweed banchan though. I also get the chicken noodle soup with hand cut noodles for our young son. Their marinated beef is tasty albeit a little pricey.

Yelp
We had bibimbap rice and veggies in a hot stone bowl, and also in hot stone bowls, oyster tofu soup and beef bulgogi soup with veggies which was sweet not spicy. We had hot tea which tasted nutty so I think it was also pine nut tea, but it also had the mellow aftertaste of noodle broth. We had banchan which are generally called side dishes which I think in Korea are main dishes. There was a beautiful display of bowls along one wall. My favorite banchan was what could have been cuttlefish in red sauce. I thought the atmosphere combined with the food and company (of my dear aunt and uncle) was the most comforting feeling in the world! Especially also seven staff, every one on the floor, went out of their way to ask if we were enjoying our meal and was there anything more we needed. A good birthday dinner. Hamsamnida!

Yelp
Went here for a family dinner. Made reservations (on a weekday) for 5:30pm. Reservations seemed unnecessary for an early dinner, but it got busy fast. Service was great (servers were very nice and we were served tea right away), restaurant seemed very clean. The banchan was good (really liked the jap chae). The tofu soup was good also. The fish dish was meh and didn't really care for the chicken noodle soup. The galbi had good flavor but a little char would have taken it to the next level. I will be back for more!

Yelp
I had a fantastic dining experience at Jang su jang The beef cabbage pot was so good, and the seafood pancake was absolutely delicious. I loved the huge selection on the menu, everything tasted very authentic with amazing flavors. One of my favorite was the variety of side dishes, which were plentiful and refilled regularly. The service was quick and friendly, and the environment was very clean. Overall, it was an excellent dining experience, and I highly recommend!

Yelp
so far so good. staff is always super helpful, the space is bright with high ceilings. I had their buckwheat Mul Naengmyun (cold noodles) in the summertime (was super delish). recently I had their Soybean Soon Tofu (see vid), which had a little bit of everything - clams, fish, beef, etc. my hubby had the Bossam Jungsik (pictured), which he said was really good.

Yelp
We came here for lunch one weekend and really enjoyed it. It was busy but we were still able to get a table quickly and service was fast too. The bbq looked really good, so we plan to come back and try that.
google avatar

Liana N.

Yelp
Plenty of seating for small and large groups and there can be a wait depending on the time of day. Service is quick and banchan can be replenished when you ask for more. My beef soon tofu came out piping hot and it was nice to enjoy on a crisp night out. It was really good with the purple rice.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for the first time for lunch and it was delicious!! Lots of seating and there was no wait at all. We shared the kimchi fried rice, ddukbokki, and the LA Galbi. Everything came served HOT (in temperature) which I appreciated. The Galbi was sooo tender and paired well with the grilled onions on the hot plate. Ddudbokki had a tasty broth and the rice cakes were nice and chewy. The kimchi fried rice had good texture and the fried egg on top elevated it. They were generous with the banchan. My faves had to be the kimchi cucumbers, bean sprouts & the fish cakes. Sooo good! Service was excellent. Our server was also very sweet and helpful. She always had a smile on her face! They frequently came around to check on us and even gave us refills on banchan. Definitely recommend coming here! I can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Place was renovated (used to be Tous les Jours) and had been wanting to try this place. I went here with a couple of friends to catch up and see what's good. The decor inside was nice and we came just right before the kitchen closes for an hour so that the employees can have a break. I ordered the Seafood and Beef Soon Tofu Soup with rice and an order of Japchae as recommended by the manager. The Tofu Soup was tasty and filling. The Japchae was alright. Nothing fancy for me. Their banchan are good and well seasoned. This place is good for healthy portions and for portion control as well as looking for flavorful food. I'm no expert on Korean food but I definitely would like to come back here to try their other food on the menu.

Yelp
Wow, get the seafood pancake here! It's just the right thickness, just the right balance of green onion, calamari, and crabmeat chunks. You can actually taste the seafood in it, and it may be the only one I've ever truly liked. I ate 3 pieces just by myself. It's impossible to complain about free food, and their Banchan game is strong! Great variety, and they'll refill them for free, no questions asked. Beef Bulgogi is delicious, and I always love cold noodles. Their Buckwheat Bibim Naengmyun gets the job done. Torrance isn't known for their Korean fare, but this one is legitimately good. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Danica L.

Yelp
There's not too many Korean places in Torrance, so I'm super excited this new place opened up! I ordered the Seafood & Beef Soon Tofu, and it was super good! It's similar to BCD, there's no wait, and the variety of side dishes is perfect! Service was pretty fast as well! Would highly recommend and will be back!
google avatar

Yelp
This is an update to my previous review. We tried a few more dishes, the Octopus and the Galbitang, both are excellent and highly recommended! Service was good and overall experience was great.

Yelp
Atmosphere - Former Cho Dang (near Gable House) and Da Maat. Clean, classy, large space with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Customer service - excellent service, very attentive and helpful. Staff will make suggestions on menu choices and are very accommodating. Taste - Galbi, bulgogi, chicken teriyaki, mandoo, jap chae and tofu soup were flavorful, meat was tender and everything tasted authentic. Purple rice must be requested and served if available. Price - Average
google avatar

Alice N.

Yelp
The food here is always so great! The king sized dumplings are really gigantic, packed full of stuffing. The mille feuille hot pot was great too, it hits the spot during this time of the year. Just minute 1 star (I might be petty for this) but the service isn't the best but that's probably because of the language barrier. It's not every person, maybe because we went so late. The service isn't BAD, I'm not saying that. It probably can be better with more smiles, you know? But it doesn't deter me from coming back. I'm so glad they moved to this bigger area where the bakery used to be.

Yelp
Go here if you're trying to eat good Korean food. They have hot pots, bbqs, everything. I like variety when it comes to dishes and love that they have so many options. They're located in the plaza across next to King's Hawaiian. There were many groups already waiting for a table when we got there for dinner during a weeknight. Even so, we got seated within 30 minutes. The inside of the restaurant is really cute and cozy. You get the menus when you get seated and they serve hot tea. This was our first time here, so we ordered a few dishes: Kkot Ssal (prime boneless ribs - bbq), Bossam Jungsik, (steamed pork slices with cabbage wraps), and a Vegetable Soon Tofu. 5/5 would come back just for the Kkot Ssal. We really enjoyed all the banchan that was provided for the table and the soondubu was really warm and tasty on a cold night. The prime boneless ribs melts in your mouth and goes really well with the two sauces that come with it. Each piece was really buttery and was good with any of the banchan. The bossam jungsik was really filling along with the soondubu and the side of rice. Overall really happy with everything we ordered and plan on coming back to try their hot pots, bibimbaps, and appetizers.

Yelp
Cho Dang and Da Maat were sister restaurants. Although both are now closed, the two live on as a newly merged establishment named Jang Su Jang. You will find the entwined eatery in a plaza along Sepulveda, near King's Hawaiian. The space was previously occupied by Tous les Jours. Parking is plentiful, I never have trouble finding a spot nearby. It was packed on a Friday night, about a 20 minute wait to be seated. There were a few tables outside, but it's kind of awkward because you're sitting close to the patrons sitting inside and there's no partitions between the two; only the glass window. But there are shades to block the sun and heaters to combat the cold. Their menu consists of Korean grilled meats, tofu soups, noodle soups, and other popular dishes. I ordered the Mille-Feuille Nabe, which means "thousand layers" in French and "hot pot" in Japanese. Thin sheets of napa cabbage, beef, and sesame leaves are arranged in a colorful and alternating pattern. Other toppings are included like kabocha and mushrooms. They'll bring the pot and a portable stove to your table, where it'll cook. Taste-wise, simple and healthy! The boiled meat and vegetables give this dish a clean but overall plain flavor profile. Will have to come back to try everything else but so far so good!
google avatar

Yelp
What is your New Year's resolution? Mine is to "try" to eat healthier when the opportunity presents itself. That is why I stopped by Jang Su Jang in Torrance. I've seen the trending and iconic Mille-Feuille Nabe dish everywhere lately. It is a clean hot pot dish featuring napa cabbage and sliced meat, and Jang Su Jang has it on their menu! This is definitely an aesthetic dish as you can see the beautiful alternating layers of meat, sesame leaves, and napa cabbage. Jang Su Jang is a Korean establishment, so their take on the Japanese dish is slightly different from what you would traditionally see. Normally this dish does not have sesame leaves. I found the sesame leaves pleasant as it broke up the flavor and gave a bit more variety to this simple dish. My favorite has to be the Tong SamGyub Salad since WHO DOESN'T LIKE PORK BELLY??? The grilled pork belly is served on a bed of arugula salad and it was the most savory thing ever. 10/10 recommend!! Tong SamGyub Salad - salad with roasted pork belly Mille-Feuille Nabe - beef, napa cabbage, sesame leaves, mushroom in broth Their service was great. The Mille-Feuille dish required on the spot cooking over a flame and the wait staff was super nice cooked it for me. They seemed worried I'd burn myself, but I'm a seasoned veteran at Boiling Point so this was nothing new for me! Heh. Instagram: @jessgoeat

Yelp
Been wanting to try this place out so we decided to check it out recently. We came on a Wednesday night and there wasn't a wait for two people. The inside looks pretty clean and modern. There was a good amount tables and some table booths area. We got seated near the front. My bf and I decided to order a few items to share. We got the seafood tofu soup, small bossam, and the galbi. Everything was so yummy! Service could be a little better. They were really helpful in the beginning and wanting you to order right away. However, after we got our food, no one really checked in with us or ask us how we are doing. It was whatever but would be nice if someone checked in with us. We had to flagged someone down for a togo box and for the check. It is kind of pricey! But it is worth it to check it out. Our total came out to about $90. We recently went to this other Korean place called Gaya Grill which is also in Torrance. I actually prefer Gaya over this restaurant since it was more lowkey and the food was more flavorful in my opinion. The portions are also a bit bigger than this location for the price.
google avatar

Liz B.

Yelp
I love a good soup and the seafood kalgooksu hit the spot. Generous amounts of seafood (even crab!) and also had a good variety of banchan.
google avatar

Jay D.

Yelp
We came here with some friends who live nearby who recommended this place and it was amazing! We ordered probably too much stuff but it was an absolute feast and all the food was truly delicious. My favorite thing was actually the braised cod dish, it was really beautifully cooked. We did a good job of ordering things with different flavors and I was impressed with the range of food that Jang su jang has, they're definitely not a one trick pony. I would for sure recommend coming here if you're looking for hearty and delicious food!
google avatar

Zach A.

Yelp
Wow, this place is really good. 10 minute wait on a Saturday at lunch. Tables are spacious and service is good. We got: - Jangsu Bossam: Wow, I've never had Bossam before and it was good. Really really good. I highly recommend anyone try it. It is a ton of food enough for 3 people. They brought us extra lettuce when we ran out. - Beef Soondubu: Pretty standard, I liked it. The banchan was also good. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Jenny Y.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I are new to exploring the South Bay Area and I was craving Korean food so we tried out this restaurant. Surprised by the limited amount of reviews but the restaurant was decently filled. We didn't have to wait for a party for 2 on a weekend early dinner. I got the bossam and he got the spicy galbi. -1 star from me because the bossam missed some of the toppings I usually get at other Korean restaurants. Otherwise portion and taste were pretty good.
google avatar

Frank D.

Yelp
I would have traveled to Jang Su Jang just because they have spicy squid (Ojingeo-bokkeum) and outdoor seating. That combination doesn't seem to exist even in LA's illustrious Koreatown. I would not have been disappointed if it was hard to find parking, or if the portions were small. It turns out that Jang Su Jang rocks the house. Traditional Korean cuisine, extremely friendly bilingual staff, huge portions of high quality dishes across the whole gammit, free parking, somehow modern yet traditional indoor and outdoor seating, and many side dishes. Amazing.
google avatar

George F.

Yelp
Jang Su Jang takes the space that was Tour de Jours on Sepulveda Blvd in Torrance. Since moving to this location they have expanded their menu to include a full menu of popular Korean dishes. We were there for lunch and there was a short wait for a table. There is indoor and patio seating. We ordered the following items Bibimbop 5 stars piping hot stone bowl made lots of crispy rice at the bottom. Boneless kalbe 4 Stars good flavor, tender cuts of beef, small portions $45 Boodae Jungol 3 stars very sparse in the stew items. Tofu soups 5 stars both the beef and combo tofu soups were good. Bonchans 4 stars Service was excellent, including the host, plus stars. The parking lot is a mess with some aisles taped off. The lines for the spaces are worn out and cars are just parking randomly.

Yelp
I LOVED Cho Dang since I move to LA in 02'. I haven't been there for while and I also found out that Cho Dang place was closed and merged with Da Maat. It was the first time for me to visit Jang Su Jang. Good clean new place with many tables. However I am disappointed about Soon Tofu and Price. I remember soon tofu was like $8 with lots of ban Chan. They charge $18!!! Too expensive for soup. Also they put less Tofu and no oyster in Seafood Soon Tofu. No Nori seaweed in Ban Chan. Taste was good but quality and price won't match. There was like 50 min wait on Saturday night. If you put phone number on waiting list, they will call you. I was able to wait in my car so at least I like about it.
google avatar

Char L.

Yelp
Loved the food. Clean spacious seating. Service was fast and food came out quickly as well. Gotta say we also ate dinner at 5pm knowing this place would be crowded. By the time we left, a wait was starting already on the weekend.

Yelp
In a plaza off Sepulveda. Takes credit card and busy during lunch time The interior was recently remodeled so it looks very welcoming. BanChan was excellent. The variety of small side dishes were all very tasty. Unlike other places that lack flavor #1 Mille Feille Nabe ($29)- it comes out over hot rocks. So it stays hot. It keeps the soup at a boil. Let the napa cabbage stew in the soup or else it will be too hard to eat. There's slices of beef in between the napa. The beef is super tough bc I think they've been boiled to make the soup stock. But boiling it longer makes it even more tough. It'd better if they used raw meat and then have it cook in the soup when they come out.

Yelp
If you're craving some Korean soup on a very cold SoCal day, look no further than Jang Su Jang. I got there around 30 minutes after they initially opened and the place was already full of people...on a Friday! I was immediately seated and asked if I wanted anything to drink. The ambiance is bright, cheerful, and colorful. They really transformed the place from what it was once (Tous les Jours). The service was good - The servers kept my cup full of water and kept checking in to see if I needed anything else. For lunch I ordered their Beef Soon Tofu with an egg. The flavor was delicious but I should have ordered medium spiciness instead of mild. I especially liked the acorn jelly banchan served with this meal. I ordered it twice! In addition to the acorn jelly you get three kinds of kimchi, bean sprout, broccoli, and macaroni salad (which was my least favorite).

Yelp
Craving Korean food? This is your spot! I always get the tofu soup. I've tried both the beef and the clam, both are good and they are generous with the toppings. Their sides change consistently so the next time you come there might be something new. This place gets pretty packed but they turn tables pretty quickly. On a Friday night around 730, the wait was about 20min. Staff and management are very kind. The restaurant is bright and clean. Food comes out quickly.

Yelp
Lunch line nearly out the door. Mental note to arrive when they open. Visually stunning. A mix of traditional & modern. Wall of Korean tea cups attractively displayed in wooden cubbies. Multicolored plexiglass suspended from the ceiling. Cool wooden(?) chairs with a mcm feel. Having passed this place a hundred times, I feel as though I've missed out. Even though we did mention we order A LOT of food, we were crammed into a mini-2 seater table. Please tell me this isn't one of those Korean restaurants we're non-Koreans are treated as 2nd class... We shared: Wang Mandoo-giant mandoo filled with beef, pork & kimchi. Really good. Wrapper is fairly thin. 5/5 Old style Bulgogi-served in a hot pot. Thinly sliced beef, tofu, shimeji mushrooms, & shiratake(?) or sweet potato noodles. Slight sweet broth reminiscent of sukiyaki. 5/5 Bossam Jungsik-single serving. Another winner. Decent serving for one. More than enough to share with multiple dishes. Mumalaengi muchim (spicy dried radish), raw garlic , salted nappa cabbage, & ssamjang on the side. 5/5 Almost forgot to mention the banchan. 7 delicious side dishes: kimchi, radish kimchi, chapche, kale & tofu bits, seasoned broccoli, eomuk bokkeum(thin fish cake), & bean sprout namul. All very good. The radish kimchi might be a bit past its prime though. Seven side dishes is above average (3-5 is usual). I've seen Korean restaurants in LA with 10 banchan at the table. That'll be another field trip though. Could have been a 5 star, had the employee NOT seated us in a cramped 2 top when I specifically told her we ordered a lot. Yet a single Korean woman sat at a 4 top only ordering a noodle dish. We all know this happens. My Korean friends all know it & feel bad for non- Korean patrons. Too bad there is such a prejudice from waitstaff.

Yelp
Initially came to this plaza to eat at a nostalgic Korean food joint DA MAAT. (You can see my review of them in my earlier reviews). When I reached the store front they wrote a sign that they moved to unit A which ended being this newly renovated restaurant. It used to be the location of the tour le jour bakery. The remodel looks amazing. Is see they brought a Da MAAT element into the renovation, a wall of tradition Korean ceramic bowls paying homage to the late Da MAAT restaurant maybe da MAAT 2.0? The chopstick cover showed emblem that it's da MAAT and the tofu house combined. Being a da MAAT fan I ordered what I typically will get there: wang mandoo (empirical dumplings) and a hand cut noodle soup. They didnt serve the clam version but they have a seafood noodle version. The broth flavor down to the hand cut noodles they use is the same! The mandoo had a tiny upgrade too but still the same dumpling. The sides are amazing as usual. We tried a new thing in the menu: Mille fuer nabe. Cuts of Napa cabbage, thinly sliced beef and sesame leaf in their signature broth with a doek, mushrooms and slices of kabocha pumpkin. Served with rice I add the broth the rice to make a comforting rice soup. The seafood noodle soup has reminiscent of DA MAAT and quality seafood. Chewy hand cut noodles and a clear umami broth. I will continue coming here when I crave some home cooking style Korean food. I wonder what establishment is going to take place of the old Da MAAT? Well just have to wait and see!

Yelp
Amazing place! Can't go wrong with the hot stone bibimbap and tofu soup. Everything was flavorful and portions are good. Side dishes are also amazing. The have outdoor seating with heaters and service was fast and friendly. Would love to come back and try other foods!

Yelp
I ordered the kimchi & beef to go. I got it "spicy". It was still hot when I started eating, but it wasn't spicy enough. It was more of a medium to me. I would recommend getting the next level up if you like spice. Their side dishes/banchan were just okay too. They were generous with the portions and gave one container per food item. My favorite is the broccoli, but the kimchi & cucumber weren't sour. This place was pretty good, I just wish that the soondubu was spicier.

Yelp
I'm always to see new places pop-up in Torrance and was happy to check out the new Jang Su Jang. I apparently was not the only one happy to check this place out because it was super packed on a Saturday night. It had a waitlist but luckily I waited less than half an hour. Walking into this place; the look of the restaurant and even the menu looked very familiar and after reading a few Yelp reviews; I realized it is because it's a combo of Cho Dang Tofu and Da Maat. Both Cho Dang Tofu and Da Maat are Korean spots I've tried before and found it interesting and intriguing that they would combine. For dinner; we opted to get the Jang Su Jang Kimchi Fried Rice and Dduk Mul Mangdooguk (Dumpling Soup). Each meal comes with a set of barchan. The set of barchan was many of the familiar Korean favorites like kimchi, broccoli and spicy cucumber salad. Tastewise; the Kimchi Fried Rice was the winner for the night. I enjoyed the nice hint of spice. I also loved the egg and healthy portion of chicken slices in the dish. The Dduk Mul Mangdooguk was a bit more of the opposite in terms of taste. It was a bit on the bland side for me and I don't honestly see myself getting this again. The dumplings inside were plump and good but the overall soup itself needed more flavor. It was a good dinner at Jang Su Jang and the next items I would want to try here are the Soon Tofu soups.

Yelp
This place is really good! I come here just for the Mille Feuille hot pot because I can't find it anywhere else. It's basically thinly sliced beef and napa cabbage arranged impressively in a hot pot. They say the eyes eat first and in this case, it rings so true. The beef can be a bit tough at times, but not to the point where it's inedible. Service is spot on! I got the same waitress both times I went and she was super nice and accommodating. She checked on me several times to make sure the beef was cooked and even cut it up into smaller pieces. Banchan is pretty good and they offer free refills. There is parking available in the strip mall and it can get crowded so keep that in mind.

Yelp
Jang Su Jang was good, but I would wait until the hype dies down a little before coming back. We came on a Friday night around 6pm, and it was a 25 minute wait. The hostess was very efficient and definitely was on top of the waitlist and gave accurate estimates. But still, there's a lot of people trying this new restaurant. The food itself was pretty good; not as good as what you would get in K-town, but certainly held its own. For the 4 of us, we ordered the Bossom Jungsik, the Haemul Kalguksoo (noodle soup with seafood), a Beef and Seafood Tofu Soup, and the Haemul Pajeon (seafood pancake). And we had plenty of leftovers. The banchan was very plentiful and they give you refills easily. Overall, the Bossom was very mediocre and not very good. The Kalguksoo was superb with lots of seafood. And the Pajeon was very thick and crispy. 3 of the 4 dishes were superb. Overall, good restaurant. Lots of parking. Prepare to wait if you come during rush hours.

Yelp
First time trying this amazing spot, finally an awesome delicious spot in South Bay. Usually have to drive out to Sawtelle or Buena Park for some good Korean food. The staff is friendly and attentive, service was awesome. We came during dinner time yet staff was always checking on us. We ordered the tofu soup, both the seafood and vegetable were very tasty. We also tried the king dumpling soup, broth was delicious. To finish we shared an order of their Galbi Jjim, my favorite dish here. The short ribs were tender and flavor. Their banchan was fresh and delicious, seasoned well. Definitely will be coming back. If you guys want some delicious hearty Korean food this is your spot.

Yelp
My favorite Korean restaurant in Torrance! I was sad when Cho Dang and Da Maat closed but happy to hear this is the new replacement. Love the new decor. It's bright and inviting. Indoor and outdoor seating available and there's plenty of parking. Friendly service! Recommended dishes: *Bossam Jungsik (steamed pork slices w/ cabbage wraps) *Yookgejang Kalguksoo (spicy beef soup w/ hand cut noodles) *Mille-Feuille Nabe (beef, napa cabbage, sesame leaves, mushroom in broth) *Budae Jjigae Jeongol (spicy stew w/ kimchi, ramen, spam, sausage, cheese, tofu) *Ojinguh Bokeum (sautéed squid w/ vegetables in spicy sauce) *Haemul Pajeon (seafood pancake) I'll be back!

Yelp
This is the merger of Cho Dang Tofu and Da Maat. I followed them from Cho Dang and it's still sooooooo good. The standouts are the the soon dubu (of course), acorn noodles and dolsot bibimbap. They're super generous with the banchan and just generally really nice.

Yelp
I always order the army stew. It's amazing and satisfying, especially in the cold weather.

Yelp
Been meaning to review this place. We ate here for lunch for the first time a few months back. It's a partnership between two Korean restaurants in the area and is beautifully decorated, clean, and well-lit inside. My thoughts: *Ambiance (5/5): Really modern with a nice Korean flair to it. They had just opened when we visited, so they also had a lot of cute flower and plant grand opening settings. It's brightly lit, very spacious, and has a nice wall full of ceramics. Outside seating was plentiful too, and I saw one person with a dog (so possibly dog-friendly outdoor seating). *Service (5/5): Checked up on us many a number of times and refilled water. Friendly staff. They were quick to get us a high chair for the baby. *Food (4/5) - Overall, everyone liked their food and pricing was fair for the large portions. Banchan was good too, with some different ones from the usual like mushrooms and spinach. More details on some of the food below: Budae Jjigae Jeongul - Also known as "Army stew," this Korean comfort food had the usual fixings--ramen, cheese, rice cakes, and of course, plenty of processed goodies like SPAM and sausages. Although it good, it wasn't the best I had and could have used more of a punch of flavor to the soup. Buckwheat Mul / Bibim Naengmyun - Noodles were chewy and had that great bounce taste to it (if you know you know). Decent portion size too. Would definitely recommend this on a hot day! I think this place is worth visiting again in the area when craving some Korean food and a more "posh" environment for gatherings.

Yelp
After the closing of chodang (darn luxury apartments) I've been on the search for a replacement place for soondubu. Jang su jang definitely filled that missing slot. There was no wait for lunch on a weekday. The area can sit quite a few people and there is a patio. While their menu boasts a wide selection of Korean dishes, I mainly came for their soondubu. I went with the beef medium which was not too spicy and packed a punch of flavor. We did order the galbi and japchae on top of the already plentiful bonchon. Both were great. My only gripe was the service. They very rarely came by to fill our drinks.
