Japonessa Review - Downtown - Seattle - The Infatuation

"As questionable as Japanese-Mexican fusion might sound, Japonessa is kind of nailing it. Make a reservation, order some Bad Boy rolls (like spicy tuna rolls but battered and fried) and tempura brie for the table, and get a few rounds of mango sangria going. It’s a little touristy and nine out of ten times our sushi rolls completely fall apart and little grains of sticky rice and cucumber sticks end up all over the table, but it tastes great, there are exciting vibes aplenty, and it’s the perfect light-bite pregame." - Aimee Rizzo

Where to Eat and Drink in Seattle During the Taylor Swift Eras Tour - Eater Seattle

"Enter your Reputation era at Japonessa Sushi Cocina in downtown with a sushi roll inspired by the 2017 album. Filled with spicy crab, scallops, and asparagus, the roll is topped with a delicate dollop of black tobiko caviar over slender slabs of salmon and avocado. The restaurant is also offering two Eras drink specials." - Zoe Baillargeon

I tried several dishes at Japonessa, and overall it was a great experience! • The cheesecake was super light and delicious definitely one of the best I’ve had. • I absolutely loved the calamari salad! The dressing was fantastic and paired so well with the crispy calamari. • The Seattle Crunch Roll was slightly undercooked this time not as crunchy as usual. But I’ll chalk it up to how busy they were that night, because this roll has never disappointed me before. • The edamame was just as good as always fresh and simple. • I also tried the fried tofu for the first time. It was flavorful, but not really to my personal taste. Will definitely be coming back again this place rarely misses!

Had a great experience at this sushi spot near the Seattle harbour. I ordered The Union roll — absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. The ambience was cozy and modern, making it a nice place to relax and enjoy a meal. Staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Convenient location if you’re exploring the waterfront area. Would definitely come back!

Google
Wonderful experience and delicious food! We had 3 adults and 1 older kid… we ordered 8 rolls and they were gone in no time! The super bad boy was a huge hit! So so good! I also had a lychee martini and it was very refreshing and tasty!

Google
A great place to eat downtown. I was so intrigued by the concept I had to check the place out. I can’t say I’m a sushi connoisseur but I really enjoyed what I ate. The menu is decidedly Japanese with lots of Latin inclusions. From what I had they’re making smart connections and not mixing cuisine just for the sake of it. The sushi rolls I had were all great and looked beautiful. I had a “sake sangria” drink at the bar that was a fun idea and very tasty. They’re having some fun with the menu while delivering quality dishes. The decor is very nice. They fit a lot of tables in a moderate space but the color choices keep it from looking or feeling cramped. The staff were all lively, friendly and attentive. I’d be more than happy to dine again. I’d say great for a meal or a quick bite/drink if you just visit the bar.

Japonessa is hands-down our favorite sushi spot in Seattle. Every time we go, we devour their massive omakase boards like it’s a ritual—and they’re absolutely flawless, every single time. The quality, variety, and presentation are all top-tier. It’s like a sushi adventure on a platter, and we love every bite of it. What really puts the experience over the top is the service—especially Misty, our go-to server. She’s an absolute gem: warm, attentive, and always one step ahead with recommendations and great vibes. She makes us feel like regulars, even when we haven’t been in for a while. The fish is melt-in-your-mouth fresh, the rolls are creative without being gimmicky, and the whole atmosphere has this perfect blend of energy and elegance. Whether it’s a celebration or just a Tuesday craving, Japonessa always hits. Easily a five-star spot, and we can’t wait for our next omakase feast.

Google
This was hands-down one of the best and most memorable sushi lunches I've had. Japonessa is a special place that exceeded all expectations, and I highly recommend putting your trust in the chef with the Omakase. Every single piece of nigiri that came out was a work of art. The quality of the fish was immediately apparent—the tuna was rich, the salmon was buttery, and everything tasted incredibly fresh and clean. The rice was also perfectly prepared, which is the foundation of great sushi. What makes Japonessa truly stand out is their unique blend of traditional Japanese technique with subtle Latin influences. You'll notice this in the creative toppings and sauces that complement the fish perfectly without overpowering it. The seared pieces in our selection were particularly phenomenal. A must-visit for any sushi lover in Seattle, especially if you appreciate creative, high-quality preparations.

Google
This was our first visit and we were surprised how amazing this place is. It is warm, inviting, and very comfortable, with a touch of class. The staff is helpful and friendly, some of the best I’ve seen. The food was beyond delicious! We had the spicy yellowtail, the salmon skin roll, the shrimp tempura roll, and the California roll. I love great sushi and boy did they deliver. As if all this wasn’t enough, it was happy hour! If you live in or visit downtown Seattle, you have to visit this place. Trust me, I will be back!

Google
Had Dinner last night before we heading back to Birch Bay. We're from San Francisco Bay Area on vacation, and sushi is our favorite food. This Japanese/Mexican fusion is extraordinary fabulous. The cocktails 🌶🌶 was awesome, the Sushi/Mexican fusion 🌶😋 was excellent 👌😉 and the service was magnificent 👌. I do recommend trying the Aztec Xspresso cocktail.

Yelp
The sushi is amazing, so fresh. The atmosphere is lavish. Staff is so accommodating!!!

Yelp
LOVED japonessa, we went during happy hour unknowingly and it was great. Sushi is fresh and came out fast, inside was clean, service was great, location was central. The Brie bites were good but extremely rich and didn't really fit the vibe but that's on us. Highly would recommend and would come back in if the area again!

Yelp
I really enjoyed the sushi here!! We ordered a little bit of everything. Food was very fresh and cocktails were great too. Service was good and friendly. The atmosphere was a little cramped but nonetheless I would return again.

Yelp
We decided we didn't want to wait for Matt's across the street so we pounced on a bar seat here instead. We are so happy we did! It was entertaining watching the sushi chefs toil away at their craft as we sat and watched the whirlwind of activity. We ordered the spicy garlic edamame, salmon roe sushi, belly sushi sampler, spicy tuna roll, mexican ninja roll, and Seattle roll. The bill came out to around $110 with tip and felt well worth it. The belly sampler was probably the star of the show. It came with 4 pieces and each melted in your mouth. My wife loved her generous portion of salmon roe with a quail egg added to the top. The Seattle roll (salmon), spicy tuna roll, and edamame all tasted great. The Mexican Ninja roll came with an assortment of fish on top and a delicious yet light sauce drizzle. You can sit in an ample dining room, along the cocktail bar, at the sushi bar, and even outside.

Yelp
Started with miso soups and these were so tasty and better than some areas where the broth tends to be a light miso broth. We shared a spicy edamame, garlic short ribs, ginger chicken with a side of white rice, both really tasty and finger licking good. These were some really long rolls with at least 10 pcs/ roll with the spider roll, Seattle Crunch, different but oh so tasty with a light vinegar salsa type sauce. Then we also had spicy tuna and these scorpion sting roll. We've had sushi from several restaurants and this was a great find and interesting atmosphere a block from our hotel room. A must visit and our server Dray was awesome. Definitely a must when in Seattle and near the Market place.

Yelp
Stopped at this restaurant after checking out pike place market. Great pick!! Sushi was absolutely fantastic and we couldn't stop talking about it all trip. The service on top of the fantastic food, was phenomenal. Would love to visit there again if we ever were to return to the city.

Yelp
This very cool sushi restaurant came highly recommended and I was blown away by the whole experience. Just walked in and even without reservations, and in the thick of dinner, hostess, without hesitation, offered seating looking out at the patio and into the street. Definitely a win since it was obvious we were in a hot sushi spot! The rolls were some of the best I've ever had. When you don't have to dip in soy sauce and wasabi because it's that legit, you know you're not getting a basic roll;) Besides fantastic service, the decor was sleek & classy, & definitely giving party and/or date vibes. I must come back sooner than later on another future trip!

Yelp
Thursday 5:30 walk in, majority tables are taken, there are about 5 ppl waiting. Fortunately this restaurant has lots of open bar seatings, inside and outside. The crowd tells the popularity. The waitress is friendly and showed me the way to the bar seating. Ordered the salmon tartar and agidashi tofu. Served in 5 minutes, the salmon is not that fresh meanwhile the sauce on it on the very sweet and vinaigrette side. And the Agidashi tofu sauce is also disappointing, tasted like heavy soy sauce, lack of the traditional delicate taste. Price is reasonable and menu has lots of options. Suitable for Family and friends gathering near pike palace.

Yelp
Casual vibe with great happy hour deals! I've been frequenting Japonessa including the Bellevue location. Their HH deals are pretty solid. The sashimi and rolls are solid as well. It's not the best quality but gets-the-job-done quality.
google avatar

Carol C.

Yelp
They have happy hour daily until 5:30 pm. Food is delicious. I love the variety of HH kitchen items, as well as the sushi selection. There's more to choose from on their main menu. Reservations are recommended. Location is on 1st & Union downtown, a block away from the Market. They also have a Bellevue location that has parking.

Yelp
We came here on a whim looking for dinner in downtown and so glad we did!! I did make a last minute reservation online but tbh I don't think we needed it. Such a cute place on the insight and our waiter was immediately super friendly in trying to provide recommendations. We of course got some edamame and sake to start. I've never really been a sake fan but have to admit this one was delicious. We also got the tempura sampler platter but the main show was the sushi. 4 different roll and I've never had sushi that tasted this fresh. It was unbelievable every single piece. My favorite thing tho was the sashimi - I've never had it but decided we had to try the salmon sampler (when in Washington ofc!) and holy cow. That salmon just melted like butter. What a stunning flavor. Excellent food and service and definite go again!!

Yelp
Located a short walking distance from the Pike Place Market- it is easy to walk to. We reserved our table for 1:30 PM on a Sunday afternoon, and it turned out to be the perfect time--no crowds, no wait, just a seamless and welcoming experience. The atmosphere was intimate and serene, setting the stage for a relaxing meal. The menu boasted an impressive selection of sushi, though tempura roll options were a bit limited. We started with Wagyu Nigiri, miso soup, and gyoza--each bite rich in flavor and expertly prepared. When our three sushi rolls arrived, we were pleasantly surprised by the generous portions, far more than expected! Every piece was incredibly fresh, bursting with flavor, and beautifully presented. From start to finish, it was a fantastic dining experience that exceeded our expectations. Visiting Japonessa Sushi will definitely be on the itinerary for your next trip to Seattle!

Yelp
Stopped in for happy hour. The HH menu is very good. We enjoyed some sashimi, a spider roll and a bad boy roll. Today their salmon sashimi was simply outstanding. Nice thick pieces and a wonderfully delicate flavor. Highly recommend.

Yelp
An amazing sushi place! They have free validated parking, service is amazing and the food came pretty quickly for a busy Valentine's Day evening. We ordered a lychee martini, Takoyaki, eel roll, ultimate dragon and a Cassanova. My favorites were the ultimate dragon and lychee martini. I liked how the rolls had generous amounts of fish and filling and not too much rice. The music was nice, bathrooms are clean and booths are clean too. My only complaint is we were sat at a corner with a narrow space between tables, so my partner kept having to scoot/lean forward when people passed by.
google avatar

Yesenia E.

Yelp
Customer service was fabulous. Wait time was amazing Seating arrangements, decor and music was upbeat The food however was terrible. Rice tasted old and hard, fish was not fresh. And the baked rolls were bland. Wasn't impressed and I ended getting food poison afterwards. So unfortunately not a place I would revisit.

Yelp
After a full day of walking all over town, we wanted to grab dinner somewhere close to our hotel. Japonessa was conveniently located right across, so we walked in without a reservation. [Ambiance] Dim lighting, busy, moderately noisy, and an intimate setting. Fair warning - this place was packed on a Friday night. The host offered us seats at the bar for faster service, but we decided to wait 15+ minutes for a table. Once seated, our server quickly approached us with a complimentary cup of tea to "warm us up". This was such a thoughtful touch, especially because it was cold and raining outside. We ate here on two separate occasions, and here's what I enjoyed: * Sunomono salad - basic cucumber salad, just ok * Fried Brie - sounds weird, but it was delicious * Lady Bug Specialty roll - ooh this was our fave * Seattle Crunch Roll - decent, but we preferred the Lady Bug * Ahi Tacos - another excellent choice! Yummm * Coconut cake - perfect sweet ending to our meal [Service] Excellent! The host and servers that we interacted with were all very friendly and helpful. Overall: 5-stars! Delicious food, excellent customer service, and great prices...enjoy!

Yelp
We came here with my sister and brother in law a nice sushi dinner night out. We had both tried them before but it had been a while. We had reservations so we didn't have to wait long. I ordered the strawberry nigori, the unfiltered sake. My favorite way to enjoy sake. The calamari was light and flavorful. I really enjoyed the sweet chili dressing. Not too heavy. The hamachi appetizer was cleansing and fresh. The jalapeños were not too spicy. A good kick. The omakase sashimi was fresh and plentiful. I loved the eel roll, I forgot what it was called but it had grilled eel on top. I had been craving eel and it hit the spot. There were a few other rolls we order too and they were all very god, even the one with seared steak on top. A different approach to seafood sushi. The chicken yakisoba was okay. The seasoning tasted like the microwaveable yakisoba noodle bowls. But surprisingly it was better the next day. We loved all of the food and were so full after. My sister also ordered their coconut cake and that was also very good. I don't typically like shredded coconut, but it has really grown on me. The cake did seem like it was refrigerated because it wasn't as soft.

Yelp
I came in on a Saturday night, no reservation was needed and was sat right away. The service was quick and attentive. The sushi was good but a bit expensive for a roll. I figured I would try the rolls to get a bit more of the fusion experience but maybe I would've been better off with the nigiri or sashimi. The sake sangria was really good as well! Overall, happy I checked it out but probably won't be my go to for sushi in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
This our favorite sushi spot in Seattle. We always make it a point to stop by when we are in town. (IIYKY) If you can make during happy hour, even better. But if not, the food is delicious no matter what. We absolutely love the food here and on our first visit years ago, we found our favorite sake (Junmai Ginjo - Silver) On this visit, we ordered: 1. Hamachi Usu 2. Chicken Karaage 3. Salmon Sampler 4. Belly Sampler 5. Ikura Nigiri 6. Unagi Nigiri 7. Barcelona Sunset Roll 8. Cheesecake Souffle EVERYTHING was fresh and absolutely delicious! We are salmon and hamachi lovers and as you can see in my photos, everything looks sooo good and indeed it was. Yum, Yum, Yum! The restaurant can be very busy and their restaurant is actually a decent size. I would say reservations are a must!
google avatar

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Japonessa is a go-to when we are near Pike's Place. We always manage to get something terrific. I would recommend reserving a seat through Open Table as there can be some wait. The staff are friendly and very helpful and it's a well lit place. I didn't realize that I went when ComicCon was going on one year and in walks Nathan Fillion. I was absolutely geeking out but one of the coolest moments of my life. If celebrities are going there then you know it's a happenin' place!
google avatar

Devin M.

Yelp
Had an incredible omakase sashimi dinner every cut was incredibly fresh and expertly prepared. Honestly couldn't pick a favorite because everything was phenomenal. Easily a 10/10 experience. Service was prompt and professional, and our server was impressively knowledgeable about each sashimi cut. The ambiance was relaxed yet refined perfect for a special occasion or just a fun night out. Would definitely recommend
google avatar

Viji S.

Yelp
The sushi rolls were very yummy and so fresh. Quantity is huge. The margarita was soar and had good balance of flavors. Not at all sweet. Service was amazin. Will definitely come back
google avatar

Yelp
Since my last post about this place 8 years ago, Japonessa has become our go to place to celebrate our group's bday parties or for happy hour! We enjoy all our servers and we love the spicy sauces they have to complement our meals! I am only giving a 4 star due to a hair in my food... I am one of those people that cannot handle that and I had to throw my ginger chicken out. So disappointing but I am sure I will be going back. Not anytime soon, but eventually!
google avatar

Jason G.

Yelp
I keep going back here as it's best sushi and Japanese restaurant in Seattle. They have happy hour pricing when they open as well as late at night. The sushi is delicious and one of my favorite foods is the baked brie.
google avatar

Danielle K.

Yelp
My favorite sushi spot in Seattle. The quality if phenomenal and they have a great happy hour. The customer service is always top notch as the waiters make sure you are never waiting long and come check on you quick often. The location is near Pikes Place and many other downtown sightseeing spots which makes it convenient if you are a tourist. However locals also love this place. My favorite roll was the Legend and I loved it so much I ended up getting two. Same with the salmon sashimi. The quality was fantastic that I decided to get a second order.
google avatar

Jessica B.

Yelp
The bluefin toro was amazing. Probably in my top 5. The prices weren't as high as I would have expected. I would say it's a decent value. They have an extensive sake menu and several different house cocktails with interesting ingredients. My husband got the omakase and he really enjoyed it, and they added different interesting toppings to complement each piece. I got the belly sampler which was fantastic. The restaurant is huge and was well decorated. My main complaint was the blasting techno music which made it hard to hear others and felt off from the vibes they were looking to create. I appreciated that we were able to get in for dinner without a reservation and the hosts were really nice and easygoing about it. Our server Jessica was really fantastic. She was kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. I think we plan on coming by here again to enjoy some more omakase and sake!
google avatar

Adilene R.

Yelp
We were in the mood for some sushi & came across this location. It's near Pike Place & it was really good! We went in a bit later in the evening & we're seated right away. The service was good & quick! The location is a bit small but overall great experience. It was a nice ambiance for a date. The food was really good as well! The middle roll was probably the best we wished we would have done 2 of those instead. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Rachel D.

Yelp
We went for happy hour and they have a pretty decent HH menu with lots of options! Prices were still pretty high, even for HH. We got the Seattle roll, which was overall good. The tobiko was larger than what I'm typically used to. So it was also a lot stronger flavor than the tiny ones. We also got the Eel roll which was delicious! Good chunks of eel Lastly for sushi the chefs choice. I do appreciate how they use uncommon options so you're not spending $30 for salmon and tuna. It doesn't list what they gave us, but it tasted fresh and was nicely plated. Chicken things and beef tacos were decent, but spending for HH
google avatar

Tiffany T.

Yelp
Came here for a late dinner on a Monday night. It was still pretty busy and it took about 5-10 minutes for us to get seated. Our server was amazing and provided great service! I ordered sushi set a and yakitori (both from the happy hour menu). I also got one of the march bar special drinks recommended by our server and that was delicious! Sushi set A was good, nothing super amazing but not bad. The yakitori was just okay, it didn't really scratch the itch I was hoping but it wasn't bad. My friends got gyoza, sashimi, and some rolls and they seemed to enjoy their dishes. Overall I think vibes were nice but I wouldn't come if I was prioritizing food.
google avatar

ThuyVy N.

Yelp
Went here for dinner with my friends at 6:15, we got a reservation but it didn't end up being too busy when we got there. But by the time we left it looked like every table was filled. We went on a Monday and was told it was margarita Monday so we got a round of margs for all of us with the different fruit flavorings (strawberry, pineapple and passionfruit). these were really good and our waitress was really fun and fast. We ordered a bunch of rolls for the table that were really good, I really really liked the last samurai. The Mexican ninja was good but I liked the sharp taste of the ponzu on the last samurai more.we got the yakitori which came out with 3 pieces which was perfect since there was three of us. I thought they were just fine, the sauce was really sweet. Overall I'd come back just for the last samurai. The spot is also really nice, downtown close to the waterfront.
google avatar

Nic A.

Yelp
The food was amazing. We tried two rolls. Joe recommend the Mr Wonderful roll and we also had the love hunter. Both were excellent. The service was top notch. I highly recommend. A bit pricey but expected for the location. Great quality.
google avatar

Elisia A.

Yelp
Belly sampler was definitely the star of the show! Other rules were all right. I did get some à la cart octopus and salmon roe.
google avatar

Katherine Y.

Yelp
Stopped in for happy hour and ordered the unagi roll, sushi set deluxe, and chicken karaage with the spicy mayo dipping sauce for an extra $0.50. The sushi set deluxe hit the spot, but the unagi roll wasn't my favorite. I didn't love the sauce since it wasn't the usual unagi sauce I'm used to, and I was expecting the eel to be laid on top rather than rolled inside (eel to rice ratio seemed low to me this way). I'd definitely get the sushi set deluxe again along with a sashimi from the happy hour menu and a roll from the regular menu (my favorite is the Street Fighter II). Service was quick and attentive, and the restaurant had a dimly lit but lively atmosphere with great energy. Don't forget to grab the free edamame with their Yelp page voucher!
google avatar

Juzenne C.

Yelp
this restaurant is such a hidden gem with an amazing happy hour. the service is fantastic, the restaurant has a nice vibe for a nice date night, and the sushi was delicious. The edamame is pretty salty so if I would to order again I'd ask for less salt. Overall a great place for sushi and drinks!
google avatar

Idella W.

Yelp
Great HAPPY HOUR!!! We got tons of good sushi/food for a reasonable price. The garlic edamame was delicious 10/10. However the Japo chicken wings were just ok 8/10. This place has a bit of a Mexican twist on sushi. All the sushi we had was fresh & tasty. Clean restaurant, nice staff & quick service. Everything we had was delicious. 9/10 would definitely recommend..
google avatar

Mariah D.

Yelp
We had a quick dinner here after flying to Seattle. we enjoyed the variety on the menu and ordered several of the small, hot dishes as well as the nigiri omakase. We got to try three different varieties of salmon, which was fun, and the quality of everything was great.
google avatar

Auggie L.

Yelp
Went for Daily Happy Hour Food - 4/5. Nigiri had a good ratio of rice to seafood and were uniform in shape. The fish was fresh with a clean flavor that were distinct from each other. My favorite was the salmon as it melted in your mouth and had a rich flavor from the fat. The eel had a good sear to it that added a smoky finish and the yellowtail was buttery. The chirashi similarly had great quality seafood and rice. The fish were cut into chunky pieces, which provided a fuller mouthfeel that was well suited for gorging piles of rice with. The octopus had a bouncy chew with a hint of sweetness. Sadly the specialty roll was disappointing. The tempura batter was way too hard, making it tough to chew. The rice felt too oily and the flavors of the filling were overpowered and made null by the strong tempura flavor. It was an absolute chore to eat in both texture and flavor. Service - 4/5. Friendly and courteous service. Value - 5/5. They offer generous happy hour times daily from open to 5:30 PM, which can fit most people's lunch plans. Prices are quiet reasonable with the sushi set deluxe at $14 and the mini chirashi bowl at $18. Other options are in the mid $10s range. Their sushi was delicious and the portions were generous for the price, especially given its location so close to Pike Place Market. Convenient spot to grab some affordable sushi! Parking - Street (Metered)
google avatar

Sigi M.

Yelp
Food was great and the host was able to accommodate our walk in on a busy night. Our server was quick and great attitude. Not one for meat on a sushi roll but the Cali Love totally changed my mind taking my time from moving on to the next roll. Every bite was savory, had me a bit giddy. Thanks for everything.
google avatar

Alex K.

Yelp
Great sushi, and even better prices during lunch and happy hour! Highly recommend the seaweed salad and the tempura shrimp rolls!
google avatar

Timothy H.

Yelp
This place is amazing...and an absolute steal if you're here for happy hour. You can definitely taste the Spanish influence in their sushi. Their drinks are all solid if you're looking for something from the bar. With sushi...since I've never been a lover of saki, I go for whatever their hot tea is. They had a green tea which I thought was very good. The salmon roll and their Mexican roll were both to die for. The California roll was also an absolute winner. First time we came here it was happy hour, so we just kept on ordering until we were stuffed. Cleanliness is a virtue here. Our server was Daniel, who knew the menu forwards and backwards. Super amiable fella. We spent under $75 for dinner. In this town...that's a steal...and we'll be back!
google avatar

Abby H.

Yelp
Sushi rolls are great here! Just don't get the calamari. Tastes like flour fried in oil. Convinced there's actually no squid in there. There's much better options around here, this would probs be towards the bottom of my list.

Yelp
In a party of one there was no wait for me. Quickly sat and faced the kitchen door lol. I knew when my food was coming out tho . There were multiple servers checking on me at the bar seating. No small talk just put in food, explain food, eat. It was fine. Definitely just doing their job. Pearls of Similicity was delicious, through the middle size was too big for me lol I tried my best though. The deals here are great. Seaweed salad was delicious because of the freshness and miso vinaigrette. Went back in for the miso vinaigrette. Nigiri Omakase was really good. All of the rolls except one had an underlying sweetness to them. I've never experienced that before but it was really good. My favorite all time is the New Zealand Salmon belly. Very buttery. Finishing I got a Sweet Seduction roll and it felt like dessert it was so sweet. Coconut and mango paired well together and finished it off well. One star less because it doesn't feel worth it to go again. I'm not going to walk away dreaming about one part of this meal or experience, but it's a higher quality sushi restaurant that is in a prime location and definitely worth visiting at least once.

Yelp
Timing is everything, including HAPPY HOURS. Not only was the sushi fresh, but an exceptional deal. Also, our server totally made our day with her recommendation. Instead of everything delivered to our table at once, our server suggested bringing in the tacos last and I am glad that I listened. I couldn't believe this was my first time trying the Japanese beef tacos. What we ordered: SASHIMI ASSORTED (Chef's choice) - Probably the BEST HAPPY HOUR Chef's selection of raw fish. It came in 12 pieces of Sweet shrimp, Spanish maceral, Salmon, Tuna, Octopus, and Ora king salmon. Each piece was thick-cut and melted in my mouth. For under $30 of high-quality fish, it's such a bargain. SUSHI SET B (Tuna, Salmon, Albacore, Yellowtail) - This is a typical CLASSIC nigiri selection. Nothing fancy about it and you can't go wrong with it. SPICY SEATTLE ROLL (Salmon, Avacado, Cucumber, Tobiko sesame) - I couldn't resist ordering a roll that represented the city. I know salmon is native, so we ordered this for the pleasure. This roll was OUTSTANDING and easier to consume for someone that doesn't have a large appetite for raw meat. SUKIYAKI BEEF TACOS (Pico de gallo, Fried scallion, Chipotle guajillo sauce) - After we consumed all the sushi, our last meal was the taco. And there is a reason why this should be eaten last. It's greasy, sweet, and filling. The overall taste was reminiscent of Yoshinoya's beef bowl on a taco platter. EXCELLENT and RECOMMENDED.

Yelp
This place was a surprise stunning knockout!!! As far as I'm concerned, it's a travesty that this place has only 4.2 stars. My husband and I are visiting from Los Angeles and were craving Japanese Cuisine after a long day of walking around the city. I don't eat seafood, and was happy to find that JSC's menu has a great non-seafood selection. I got one of the vegetarian rolls and swapped seaweed wrap for soy paper and WOW. I was knocked on my ass, it was so unbelievable. My husband got the Matador and Wicked Sensation rolls and was also blown away. The Lycheekeen cocktail was killer. Service was excellent, too! We will absolutely come here anytime we are in Seattle!

Yelp
Very nice restaurant with great customer service. They have an extensive menu and all options sounded amazing. I decided to order the Spicy Chorizo Ramen. The Spicy Chorizo Ramen has pork broth, spicy pork chorizo, wheat/egg noodle, corn, bamboo shoots, green onion and itokiri togarashi. When I tell you life changing?? Listen!! I would fly back to Seattle just for that. It has a good kick but not too much that it overpowers the other flavors. 5/5!

Yelp
ORDER THE SPANISH LOVER. You'll thank me later -- it was one of the most delicious and interesting sushi rolls I've ever had. The Spanish Lover was surprisingly creamy from the scallops with a vibrant yet mild flavor from the avocado and cilantro. The other rolls we tried included the Last Samurai, Spider Roll, and Love Hunter -- all solid choices, flavorful and filling (the fish was good, but more watery than what we expected fresh Puget Sound fish to be). We also ordered the Seattle Crunch roll; we saw a lot people mentioning it in their reviews, but felt it was over-hyped (the breading was doughier than we would've liked). You can skip this one. Also of note, some of the rolls weren't particularly tight and on several occasions the pieces fell apart as we tried to eat them -- it's an inevitable outcome when eating sushi, but we still thought it happened more than usual. The restaurant's best feature is its location, close to Pike's Place and near a lot of hotels. The restaurant is very clean, but the decor is a bit tacky -- the black chandeliers and striped wallpapers creates a gothic/art-deco feel, which doesn't exactly match the modern Mexican-Japanese-fusion fare. The service was okay, although we waited about fifteen minutes past our reservation before being seated. The host and waitress were both professional but cold -- you could feel the staff was stressed behind the scenes, so we did our best not to make things more difficult for them. All-in-all, this would've been a 3/5 for me were it not for the Spanish Lover roll -- it was seriously that good. I'd brave the negative aspects again in a heartbeat for another taste of that delicious creation!

Yelp
I had their $50 plate and it was beautifully done. Their ambiance felt on the higher-end for being super close to Pike and some of their prices reflect that. Their sushi was good and service was attentive. I did wanted to mention that some of my friends had the plates with cheese in it and unfortunately collectively we weren't a huge fan of them. Even though this is a sushi restaurant, just wish their non-sushi items were on the same level of taste and flavor for a nicer place.
