"Japonessa is a self-proclaimed "sushi cocina," which essentially means they're topping rolls with pico de gallo and stuffing flour tortillas with beef sukiyaki. It's flashy, touristy, and tends to be packed even on weeknights (a Seattle rarity). But the sushi here always has been pretty good, and it still is, making Japonessa a no-brainer for an exciting Downtown dinner. We could stand to have more of those. Crisp tempura batter seals in moist salmon spears and are tempered nicely by pickled onion and avocado cream. Are they tacos? Absolutely not.
