Best Restaurants and Bars to Try on Convoy Street in Kearny Mesa | Eater San Diego

"One of the iconic mainstays on Convoy, Jasmine’s spacious dining area fits the bill for banquets, large groups, or dim sum. With ornate decor, a visit here can feel like an occasion, though the prices are fairly reasonable. This restaurant is one of the few places in town that still use rolling carts to serve dim sum favorites, like seared taro cake, shumai, har gow, and sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf. Opt to order a chef specialty from the kitchen, such as honey-glazed walnut shrimp, sweet-and-sour rock cod filet, and Beijing duck." - Helen I. Hwang

Its spacious dining area fits the bill for large groups, banquets, and steaming dim sum with rolling carts. Dim sum highlights include seared taro cake and sweet rice wrapped in lotus leaf. Where to Eat Seafood in San Diego

"It’s not that uncommon to have tanks of live lobsters and other seafood in Chinese restaurants so the chefs can grab your dinner choice, drop it directly into the wok, and cook to order. The beloved Convoy Street spot emphasizes high-quality seafood for popular Chinese dishes, like sauteed lobster noodles with ginger sauce, honey-glazed walnut shrimp, and sweet and sour rock cod fillet." - Helen I. Google
I have gone to Jasmine for several years. I think for Dim Sum in Dan Diego their food is very good. It really has the Hong Kong taste. The only thing about this restaurant is the atmosphere (it really needs to be remodeled as it feels old and worn-out). The furniture and interior of the restaurant just needs to be redone. If you just want good Dim Sum, this place has good Dim Sum. If you want a nice dining experience there are nicer places to go for ambience.

Google
Absolute worst dim sum I’ve ever had. Everything we ordered except for the black bean pork spareribs was terrible - just not fresh and it was obvious in the soggy dumpling skin and steamed bread. My boyfriend and I were very disappointed as it was our last meal in San Diego and were hoping for some good authentic food. Definitely also way overpriced for how mid it was.

A quick stop meeting up with friends. There is a 2 hour limit free parking , but need to pay if you park inside the garage, enjoy the food, and a good time with friends

Google
Amazing dim sum experience at Jasmine Seafood! Ate a lot more than was able to take pictures of, loved the buns, xiao long bao, shrimp and pork dumplings, cucumber salad, and more. Friendly service that is always going around with carts of food and water and tea refills. Beautiful dining room, great for groups of any size. Recommend!

So delighted to be eating here the food is to die for and the bbq pork buns are especially delicious would highly recommend ❤️

Google
Best place to get authentic dim sum in San Diego! The food is delicious and the service is impeccable. I try to go here as often as I can. Their sweet tofu is to die for!

First time going to Jasmine and having Dim Sum and it was delicious. I'll definitely be coming back...

Google
This was my first experience and it was fun. A colleague picked out the small dishes and we shared tea. The dessert balls were delicious. It was very affordable as well. We were there on a weekday and it was not too crowded. It sounds like they are very busy on the weekends! Tip your servers well, they are busy bringing food around!

Yelp
Not my favorite place for dim sum, but it's my go to place for BBQ Baos lately. The hubs loves the baked bbq baos, they're usually pretty good. I think their steamed bbq baos are pretty good, I just love the sweet bread! The Express is located behind the restaurant where you can quickly order your dim sum items togo. They have a limited hot food counter and a small display counter of items available, but you can order the full dim sum menu by just filling out the ordering form as you would normally if you were dining dim sum in the restaurant. The baked baos are a popular item, so if you're looking for them in the late afternoon you'll be out of luck. Best to get them around noon or earlier. The hubs loves the Dan tats (egg tartlets) but they're very small and just ok in my opinion. If you're looking to get your fix, they're just barely a tease as they are not even a full bite. Think mini macaron sized. Occasionally you'll encounter a line out the door but it goes fairly quick. The couple of ladies that work back there are fast and friendly. They have a dedicated parking lot for the restaurant but we usually park in the lot in the back since it's usually a quick pit stop for us. Sometimes it's packed in the back lot because of Kura the revolving sushi place is always busy. 2024: 33

Yelp
If you're looking for a quick and tasty to-go Chinese meal in San Diego, Jasmine Express is your go-to spot. Their roast duck is delicious, offering a satisfying and flavorful experience that's perfect for enjoying at home. In addition to their main dishes, Jasmine Express also offers a selection of freshly baked goods, including pork buns. These fluffy buns are filled with a savory pork filling that's both sweet and salty. They're a great option for a a satisfying snack.

Yelp
I really love to support local businesses and wish I had a different experience because I do love Chinese food so much. However, the food was subpar. I had the Lo mein noodles, beef and broccoli, orange chicken and a chicken egg roll. I will say the lo mein and the orange chicken were the best part of the meal, the beef in the beef and broccoli wasn't very appetizing and the chicken inside my egg roll was kind of slimy where I was afraid if I was going to get food poisoning and the oil had a smell. Also the sauce they gave me tasted old maybe moldy. I really hope they pick up their quality but I don't think I'll be back. I do wish the business owners the best.

Yelp
Jasmine's is already the best restaurant in SD for dumplings. They have an "Express To Go" around the corner. There's no frills to this place, it's for foot traffic only; no tables, no chairs, only standing room with an entrance and an exit. Service was awesome. The day we came it was super slow and between rushes. We came ready to order and the ladies behind the counter went to work. There's more than dumplings (see pic of duck). The food from the express to go is no different than the sit down, you're just missing out on getting everything fresh from the roll-around steamers. I think we ate half of our order in the car before we got home. We're fans of Jasmine's.

Yelp
I like going to this place if I want quick dim sum to go! There is a small variety of items that are usually available for dim sum throughout the day. I ordered the Egg Custard Buns; they were warm and delicious, and not soggy. There was no wait for my order and I was able to leave as soon as I paid for my order. Quick, convenient, and easy!

Yelp
There bakery section is always good freshly made and there duck's. That the only thing I come for haven't tried anything else yet

Yelp
Best place on Convoy to get all your Dim Sum needs. They have a comprehensive menu. Clipboard of menu on counter as you walk in. Just right down the number of dishes you want for each item. When you are done, hand to staff. They are associated with the restaurant next door, so you can order much anything. If your item not in the glass case, they'll just go to the kitchen for it. If it's not on the menu, just ask. They probably have what you are looking for. Ordered Har gow, pork/shrimp siu mai, ginger xo tripe, turnip cake, beef rolled rice wrap, Fried Ham-Sui-Gok, pork spare ribs, chicken feet, Lo mai gai. Everything was delicious. Har gow is the best here. Shrimp portion is big. Turnip cake could be cooked more (I just put it in the toaster oven when I get home). They take credit card if order over $10. Free parking if you don't park in garage. You can order online and pick up also.

Yelp
The cashier could be much more polite and respectful. A 5-min wait for steamed buns turned out to be 20-min long, according to my watch. Before my order was ready, the cashier rang up the bill as I asked for an itemized receipt. When only a credit charge chit was presented, I reminded her about getting my itemized receipt. She said she'd give it to me, and then proceeded to help the (only) remaining customer. When she was done with the customer, I prompted her again about the receipt. Eventually, she printed one up. The cashier should have finalized all details and payment for one customer before moving on to the next. Had I waited until my order came out, I could have forgotten to ask again for the receipt. Proper service means finalizing all payment details with one customer before moving one to the next, and not to let it be on the customer to keep tab of getting one. It's important to be able to verify what I was charged for at the time of payment. The food was ok, the service was more of a disservice. I found it disturbing that a cleaning rag was placed between 2 large trays of barbequed meat, touching one side.

Yelp
11/7/23 - I have never grabbed anything here but love the Jasmine Dim Sum. Only 2 employees. The desserts looked very good. The few options to order in person all looked dry while sitting there. I ordered a $1.99 small BBQ pork bun because I had to get the total order over $10 to use a credit card. I ordered a 2 item combo for $8.49. I selected the fried rice, Fish and black bean and then Mongolian beef. That was half the items to choose from. They require $10 minimum to use a credit card. That is against the credit cards policy to charge a minimum. They can lose access to credit card payments. Then they charge a 50 cent fee for a credit card. Business can charge any fee for credit cards but NEVER a minimum price. They sign paperwork to agree to the terms. Fried rice was very plain and flavorful. The fish and black beans was dried out and no black sauce. The Mongolian beef was average. The BBQ pork bun mini was awesome. Only 1 star overall. It took 15 minutes go from start to finish. See the photos. I will not go back there.

Yelp
First time ordering food here, but has been eating at the restaurant for years. I can't comment on their food since I haven't tasted my order yet. What I didn't like is the obvious favoritism of the server. She was getting food for this Chinese speaking lady in front of us and can barely close the lid of the to go box since she stuffed it with so much food. When it was our turn, we ordered the same 2 item combo and our food was almost half compared to the other lady!!! Wow!!! I hope this Jasmine hot sauce 10 oz for $9.95 is as good as Pearl's Restaurant in RB which is sadly closed now.

Yelp
If you are needing a fix between 11 and 1 PM don't mess around and get your arse down here. Not the sit down restaurant, but the express. If they are low on food, get out and go some place else. When the steam table is full though, chow down for sure. Simple dishes such as orange chicken and pork with egg plant will wow you guaranteed. Timing is everything though, if it's busy they will keep up the steam table...if it's slow make a detour or order from the menu. This is Convoy's best kept secrets for grab and go.

Yelp
The take out portion of this restaurant use to be so good, I hadn't bought from this place in probably a year but remembered it the other day and now the food is not good at all. My food was not enjoyable service and ambiance was fine but i don't know what happened to the quality!
google avatar

Ann W.

Yelp
I heard good about this restaurant, but was extremely disappointed. I ordered steamed shrimp shomai, shrimp dumplings, fried shrimp ball. First, the price is a little high for the quantity you get, but most of all, 80% imitation seafood meat is used instead of real shrimp. Don't waste your money in for dim sum this restaurant.

Yelp
Love getting dim sum to go from here! To all those haters on quality of food, the key is to get here early, like really early. Like right before the doors open so that everything is nice and fresh and you don't have to wait too long. My favorites to order: The pineapple bun Shumai I forget the name, but pictured below, the crunchy taro thingies with ground pork in the middle. SO GOOD! Glazed pork buns This spot is perfect for getting dim sum to go!

Yelp
Wow, between the economic impact of the pandemic and the fact that I haven't stopped by Jasmine in many years, the prices for dim sum have risen dramatically. I came to pick up four items for a future meal. The tab came out to $25 which was sticker shock. You used to be able to buy har gow and siu mai for around $4 per order. Now the cost is easily 50% more expensive. The good news is that at least this to-go eatery is open from 10:30 am to 8:30 pm daily. The mothership restaurant next door still has limited hours of operation (e.g. dinner only from 5 to 8 pm on Friday through Sunday). The bad news is that parking is still less than optimal, especially if you come during the peak lunch hour. My visit occurred in the evening so not much inventory was left on display. Customers can still place their order at the register, but everything was then prepared in the kitchen and packed in take-out containers. I guess that ensures freshly cooked/steamed items and it also minimizes waste from sitting under a heat lamp like the roasted Peking ducks that appeared to be dry and withering away. The quality of the har gow, siu mai, steamed BBQ pork buns, and lotus leaf sweet rice I ordered was fairly decent. It didn't take me long to finish them off because I wanted to indulge while they were still warm from the steamer. I still have difficulty with the price inflation as a dumpling costs $1.50 apiece now so that was a big factor in my rating for Jasmine Express To Go.
google avatar

Rachelle J.

Yelp
Don't want to wait super long for the sit down restaurant? Jasmine Express is your best bet! Services -- definitely not the best. I know they're just trying their best to serve people as fast as possible, but they definitely can be a little bit nicer. Food -- delicious! They offer a variety of Chinese, Dim Sum & Dumpling options! A few of my family favorites are Shrimp Dumpling (Har Gow), Steamed Chive & Shrimp Dumpling, Salt & Pepper Calamari, BBQ Pork Croissant, Sesame Seed Balls, Shrimp Pork Shumai!
google avatar

Gref W.

Yelp
I just ordered orange chicken with two eggrolls and some pork buns. I swear the orange chicken had to be at least two days old and the eggrolls were cold in the box. Not room temperature, literally cold don't waste your money or your time. There's too many great restaurants in Kearny Mesa to waste your time here.

Yelp
Chinese New Year celebrations started February 11 Chinese New Year's Eve and ends February 26th with the Lantern Festival. 2021 is the year of the Ox. In Chinese culture, the Ox is a valued animal. Because of its role in agriculture, positive characteristics, such as being hardworking and honest, are attributed to it. Normally I'd find a restaurant sponsoring a Lion Dance or go downtown where they had a weekend festival. This year I went to Jasmine Express for takeout. Soft. Smooth like jello. Sweet. Delicate rice flavor. Sweet rice cake or bai tang gao is one of my favorite desserts. Jasmine Express is my go to spot for this treat. Har gow had a mild rice flavored wrapper with a shrimp and bamboo filling. Loved the flavor. Taste best eaten in the car right after purchasing. The wrapper doesn't hold up that well in the to go container. After 20 minutes is the limit before the wrapper starts breaking down. Siu mei has a thin won ton wrapper with shrimp and pork filling. Topped with shrimp roe this is one tasty dim sum. Chicken egg roll had a thin crunchy won ton wrapper shell and lots of chicken inside. I loved the shell but I prefer the filling of Panda Express type egg rolls. Baked cha sui boa had a sweet pastry flavor and the inside had a bbq pork paste. I liked the sweet flavor but I prefer places that use chunks of bbq pork as the filling. Previous visits: 11am. Fresh fried chicken wings $4.99 for a small order. I usually show up at opening time and the wings aren't ready yet. This day I timed my arrival perfectly! The wings were crispy and crunchy. Very good msg based flavor. A few of the wings were partially over cooked and parts dried out. Not as good as Golden Chopsticks but good enough for those days you don't want to drive out there. Roast duck had crispy skin that was full of 5 spice powder flavor. Meat was tender and moist with a delicious flavor. The roast duck is one of my favorites in town. I miss the Lion dancing and the fireworks I enjoyed in previous years but I loved my rice cakes.
google avatar

Eric L.

Yelp
The roasted duck was very delicious and juicy. The skin was crispy. The total cost was $30 for a full duck and it was worth it. I wanted to choose the duck but the employee didn't speak English so he picked one and already cut it. I would come back again for the roasted duck.

Yelp
With all the stay-in-place, no dine-in, getting my dim sum fix was going to be a challenge. China Max had a fire and closed. But I saw a recent review of Jasmine Express and I had never known! Drove up and parked in the lot on the other side with all the other restaurants. There were three people waiting outside, so I went in, friendly hello, and was given a menu. Ordered my favorites, shu mei, hargow, chau siu bao, egg rolls, dung tut, sesame balls, and chau siu pork. I was in heaven! Couldn't wait to get home to eat! This is a great place to stop at! For my first visit, it was great! All the workers were friendly! I have added them to my takeout rotation.
google avatar

Han L.

Yelp
Decent. It's cheap and it's decent. The har gow wasn't bad. It's not the best quality for anything in my opinion, but it's cheap and can do the job.

O P.

Yelp
Great food, convenient to pick up to go and consume elsewhere! Staff are helpful and quickly fill your order when you walk up to the counter

Rita L.

Yelp
Health hazard! I went in for a snack. Just got chicken egg rolls, chicken was room temp. Maybe a slight chill. Definitely not held at the proper temperature. I wouldn't eat it for fear of getting sick.
google avatar

Yelp
My go to for dim sum. Never given five stars because there is always room for improvement. None is % perfect.
google avatar

Peter L.

Yelp
Called 30 min ahead for 2 take outs: sweet sour pork & stuffed tofu. Got there 30 min later but the tofu was not ready. The lady said she waited until i there to start making it because they want to make sure tofu is nice & hot. WTH? S&S pork was just ok
google avatar

Krizia P.

Yelp
I'll write my full review later, but I ordered: - shrimp rice rolls (2) - shrimp har gow (2) - veggie rice roll (1) - steam char sui (1) And I got literally ONE set of sauces (see photo). I even asked for EXTRA sauce because I didn't the lady put ANY sauce in the bag as she was checking anything (which I saw another lady doing). I even tipped $11 because these ladies were nice to me while ordering. But yeeeeesh... ONE set of sauces? ONE? Ugh I like coming here, but this latest trip ... man... I'm sad.

Yelp
Love the dimsums. In normal times i love going into Jasmine and ordering off the carts but this was a blessing during Covid take out. Love the Shui Mai, Har Gow, the steam pork buns, Cripy shrimp ball etc etc Theyre all so good. Oh and the mango pudding is sooooo good!
google avatar

Kristie L.

Yelp
Love this spot for easy take-out dim sum. The pork shu mai and har gow are my favorite go to orders as well as the shrimp & chive dumpling. The roasted pork is always delicious with a crispy skin. If you're feeling adventurous try the fried seaweed roll! Note to self: I always order the calamari but it's not my favorite here They're being safe with 6ft markers and masks.

Yelp
My husband and I typically will stock up on dim sum from Jasmine on a Saturday morning for the weekend. We've never had any problems with the service or food, but it's likely because we've been to Jasmine Express so much and know the tricks of the trade. We usually get the same items (pork and shrimp siu mai, shrimp har gow, steamed shrimp and scallop dumplings, steamed chive and shrimp dumplings, steamed and sticky BBQ pork buns, potstickers, lotus leaf sweet rice) and usually don't have any problems getting the items we want. Though, sometimes we have to wait for the potstickers; but we wait for those because they are so good! Since we know what we want, it doesn't take long for us to fill out the paper for items and hand it over for them to prep our food. My husband (not Chinese or Asian) is always very polite, thanks them in Cantonese, and the ladies working there are always very nice to him. Yes, the parking lot isn't great, but if you go early enough, not only is it easy to find a parking spot, but there isn't a long line/wait at Jasmine. I'd recommend Jasmine Expressif you're looking for dim sum to go, just be prepared to order and go early!
google avatar

Maria G.

Yelp
Where do I start? We thought it would be fun to pick up lunch here on a Saturday afternoon, the weekend before Lunar New Year. What a mistake in many ways. Parking here is awful and this day it was worse. But we were extremely lucky and found close street parking. The parking lot was a nightmare and the line to pay for parking was longer than the line at Jasmine Express. I'm getting to the food part. Okay, here's what we ordered: shrimp har gow (2), shrimp siu mei (2), egg rolls (2j, turnip cake (1), sesame balls (2), lotus wrapped chicken and rice (2), noodles (2 large containers), and one order of eggplant with pork. I remember when we would order more than this when we sat inside the restaurant (sometime before the pandemic) and the bill was less than what we paid for this take out order. Our total for the order I listed was $105.00. What??? I know inflation is real but this was crazy. I would be somewhat okay with with this price if the food was decent but let me continue. So we were looking forward to our over $100 lunch. Cause when you unexpectedly pay that much, you expect goodness. When we got home and had the lunch, all five of us were disappointed. The food was cold and not good. We live less than 15 minutes away so the food should not have been that cold. Definitely not worth the price. I don't know which dish was the worse. The noodles were awful. There was supposed to be vegetables in the noodles but either it was weirdly crunchy or too chewy. Whatever vitamins were in those vegetables are long gone. The egg rolls were labeled chicken but the meat inside was unidentifiable cause it was covered with fish sauce. I don't want to talk about the other dishes. Okay, I will say that if there is such thing as edible glue, they used it on the lotus wrapped chicken and rice cause I've never seen it that sticky before. The only thing that was almost decent was the sesame balls because those are okay cold. Sorry this is so long. When I review what I wrote one day in the future, I want to make sure I don't return. Service was good but you need something good to serve. I can't recommend this place. If anyone knows of a decent dim sum place in San Diego, please let me know.
google avatar

Ellie H.

Yelp
Came here for Comic Con, stayed for the food! We had a interesting experience with the little croissant balls. They were definitely..... Interesting.

Yelp
I have been getting take out from Jasmine as long as I can remember. At least once a week my dad goes to Jasmine and gets Dim Sum and always bring home orders of steamed pork buns for us kids. I have been to Jasmine for the regular dim sum and love it but sometimes you want the food without the whole experience - def recommend having sit down at some time! Now I am highly allergic to shell fish so I can't dine on all the dumplings I once did but anything with pork is definitely my favorite!
google avatar

Yelp
I would have given this express place two stars awhile ago. But I stopped by today and was surprised by the friendly staff. Normally the women staff here are pretty grumpy and unfriendly. But today, no - they were super welcoming. No dim sum was displayed but they said I could order and they'd go get whatever I wanted. You have to realize how expensive dim sum has become over the years. I was still shocked at the prices of chicken feet which I asked for two orders. The nice woman went to the kitchen and took a bit to come back with my order. I figured it would be super fresh. My total was about $9.89 which sounded insane for just two orders of chicken feet. It was placed in one to go container. I joked that it's crazy to pay almost 10 bucks for feet that fits in one large Chinese to go box. They joked back saying well, one order has about 4-5 feet so it makes sense to put two orders into one box. Alright. Sounds legit. It was packaged nicely with napkins and two forks. I counted about 9 feet. And did you know that each foot has 4 toes. I'm a finance weirdo so I start wondering about these things when prices pique my interest. $9.89 total equals: $1.09/foot or 0.27c/toe Who knew chicken feet and toes could be so pricey. I tried one foot and it was alright. It didn't taste super amazing or freshly stewed. The stew sauce was a bit congealed so that's a sign of no bueno right there as I'm not sure how old this batch was. Regardless, I was happy with this visit as the girls were the friendliest I had ever seen.

Yelp
There are very few places to find dim sum in all of San Diego, but your best chances for success are on Convoy St. in the Clairemont Mesa community. We were on the hunt for steamed baos. From my experience on Yelp, I learned it takes quite a bit of sleuthing to find a good steamed bao in this town! Yelpers are fickle and the number of bakeries and restaurants appear to be slim pickins. This small Chinese bakery/deli, attached to the restaurant of the same name (Jasmine), came through for us with the right tastes and a decent amount of filling. The steamed bread is slightly sweet, very traditional. It was also nicely tender. We purchased steamed char siu baos and chicken baos and found both were delicious. Good enough to order a boxful to bring home as a peace offering to the family, all dim sum aficionados. Jasmine also makes baked baos that are brushed with a sticky sweet glaze. Same good bbq pork filling, but not my personal favorite, finding the glaze too sweet. We also sampled some other types of pastries, filled with sweet red beans or savory pork, meeting with a lackluster response. This little deli has no tables. It is for to-go orders and is stocked from the main kitchen of the restaurant, so baos and pastries are not the only foods offered. You will find a selection of hot, typical Chinese foods, plus hanging duck, roast pork, to name a few. Parking is horrific, especially noting the number of other Far East food establishments, large and small, that must all share the same parking lot. This particular business shares real estate with a very well known, popular dumpling house that dominates the strip mall during the dinner hour, so plan accordingly.

Yelp
Waited for 10 mins to get help when there was no one else in front of us. Finally old lady looks at us and I asked to place an order and she YELLED at me 'Not Yet'. Super rude. Not to mention they had flies in their hanging duck display. I walked out telling them they were rude and so did a lady behind me.

Yelp
This is my go to place when I'm really craving dim sum but I don't actually want to go in and sit down! Their food is fresh, and comes straight from the kitchen! I typically come here for the roast duck, and they do a great job of portions! We typically get half a duck and Chinese broccoli, and that usually feeds my husband and I. Then I like to finish it off with some egg tarts, and I love how fresh they are! They never taste days old at all. Unless I find a roasted duck place closer to me, I will continue to make the drive to come here!

Yelp
Very disappointed with the Har Gow (shrimp dumpling) they are serving. I appreciated that they keep the take out service during the pandemic but hope they can keep up with the quality. I had 2 orders of har gow and both were not fresh at all. Tasted sour and smell bad... The good thing is the restaurant is willing to exchange when I called them, so I gave them 1 star and the other star is for other items like egg yolk bun and the fried taro ball. They are good and I hope this was just an "accident" not their "normal" operation!!

Yelp
Decent dim sum for to-go but omg they charge the hell out of you for extra chili oil. It's supposed to come with one (I ordered 4 orders of assorted dim sum to go) and even then you get the side eye An additional teeny tiny little container of chili oil is $1.25! And when I paid for an extra 2, they didn't even give me the one it comes with. It's just silly. I won't be back

Yelp
This place is fantastic!! Here are the logistics: - parking is $1 per hour - same high quality dimsum as actual restaurant - SHRIMP SHUMAI is amazing - HARGOW is a close second - the duck could be better, sometimes over cooked - usually 3-5 people in line waiting - EGG TARTS are THEEE BEST - cash preferred ($10 minimum for card) - usually busiest on Sundays during brunch Docked a star because service could be quicker, but still amazing nonetheless :)

Yelp
While I love their selection of dim sum & the option to get items To Go, they are consistently unorganized! The instructions in the e-mail & what they tell you when you arrive conflict & cause chaos! Try to AVOID LUNCH RUSH! The first available pick-up time when I ordered at 10 AM was for 11:30 which put me right in the DO NOT GO timeframe! Never again! Parking sucks! Some items are only available in person & not on-line (specifically sesame balls)! Really annoying!

Yelp
Jasmine -- the full restaurant next door -- is pretty nice. I have enjoyed eating there. Jasmine Express, while hugely convenient, is located just next to the main restaurant and offers a quick and supposedly easy way to grab you dim sum when you don't have time for the massively long wait and in-house dining experience. But after a couple of times visiting the to go spot, I can securely say that it may not be worth it to take the express route. Sure, it will satisfy the sometimes unquenchable need to have dim sum. Like, right now. But I find that the quality and the wait are not as good, and certainly not express. Especially if you go after about noon -- you won't get a decent selection, it seems. And you will likely have to wait longer than usually to get your order. But I do enjoy Jasmine. So I will likely keep coming back, hoping and hoping that the quality of food and the quality of service will improve. Also, there are a couple of benches just outside of the express shop if you want to sit and eat. But know that it is basically in the parking lot, and cars will be driving by just feet away from your seating area. And the parking lot is the pits! It will be difficult to find a spot -- though there are a couple of 15-minute spots directly in front of the to go joint. Good luck.

Yelp
I went on a Tuesday, during lunch time. We were a party of 2 and only had to wait 10min (probably less). We got our favs and then we ordered extra items that were not being pushed around. If you know what you want, communicate that to the staff. They will bring it to you. They are so nice and accommodating, and our waters were always filled. The customer service from the women working there pushing carts were so sweet and Chinese grandma-y. I wouldn't say the dimsum quality is the best, but it hit the spot and I can't ask for anything else.

Yelp
Ordered several dim sum to go. Realized when I got home that they screwed up my order. I ordered a chicken rice in lotus wrapper but they gave me steamed bao instead and they didn't give me a receipt.

Yelp
Worst dim sum in San Diego. Read the reviews and avoid! Decided to try this place out today, and it looked popular enough with a line of people waiting to order. For a place with Express in the name, it took 40 minutes to get my food after ordering. We were waiting outside under the sun and in 90 degree weather. But it gets worse... The shrimp pork siumai is dry, hard, and grainy. Seems this may have been reused or recooked multiple times. We ordered 2 portions and no pieces were edible. We also ordered two portions of chicken feet with black bean sauce. They mixed up the orders and gave us bean curd wrapped with crunchy vegetables instead. The portion of chicken feet they did give us were small and hard. This dish should be soft to eat.

Yelp
Dirty place. There are flies in the food cabinets. They don't close the doors of the food cabinets. The combo food is left over from yesterday. The oil in the food has smells. Not recommended, I wouldn't go back again.

Yelp
Sorry but I would like to express my experience and opinion of today at Jasmine. If you like Dumplin Inn next door. You will probably won't like this. I stopped today and saw all the tables nice outside and felt like giving the opportunity again, It was a mistake I ordered the follow.... dumpling shrimp and chives, vegetable fried rice and noodles with chicken. I didn't like anything. I hope its just my experience and that I have a very bad taste and I am ignorant of chinese food. Sorry. It just wasn't for me. And this is like the 3rd time that visited here and its always the same for me again. Just wanted to share my experience.

Yelp
Pricey but really good dim sum. The shrimp shumai and meat dumplings all authentic and good. Fresh tasting. You place order on paper and wait outside while they pull your order. Will come back again

Yelp
Very convenient when I want some of my favorite dim sum plates to go. The size of the individual food items seems to have shrunken and the prices have risen, but the food is still very tasty. The ladies who work there are usually pretty efficient and friendly enough

Yelp
If you are not of asain decent, or do not speak the language, you will sadly get scammed. I got one order of dim sum, but they charged me for two without telling me, I did recieve two orders but upon going back in the lady remarked "I added extra order for your friend". Which translates to: I sell you more because I think you are ignorant and wont know the difference. So I ended up spending 15$ on dim sum that was obviously the oldest batch they had. It was inedible. Dumpling skin that is supposed to he soft was bone dry and cracking, and pork meak was dry and, even knowing there was shrimp in it too, had the fishiest flavior I had ever tasted. I took one bite of my "two orders" and had to throw it away. Was thoroughly dissapointed the rest of the day and felt like an idiot.
