Jaz is absolutely amazing. Her restaurant and her incredible personality further made our first time experience at her restaurant top notch. I’ve lived in London for many years and Jaz did a fantastic job of bringing indian cuisine from the UK to NYC. I’m a bit delayed in this post but we went lunchtime during American football and she put the game on for us at the bar where we were seated when she realized we were trying to watch on my phone. Her cocktails are also incredible and she takes the time to get to know her customers so she can make recommendations on your return. It’s a very close knit vibe and i highly recommend this place both for the food and the company of Jaz and everyone else who works there. We will be back!

Ordered some takeaway from Jaz on the weekend. We picked it because of the reviews online and we were not let down. All the dishes were great! The sign of a great Indian dish is when the vegetables are fresh and firm in the dish. Our red onions and green peppers had the flavour but were not soggy. The chicken was white meat that was tender and juicy. This was not steam table curry, it’s obvious that it was freshly prepared. And it was not super salty either, just the right amount of seasoning. It’s been a long time since we have had a top flight curry in NYC, and we will be ordering from Jaz again very soon. (Sorry there aren’t more photos, this was the only one I got of a complete dish lol)

When you crave delcious and exotic yet affordable food, in a place that feels like home, then your gut will lead you to Jaz's. She and her staff treat all their customers feel like welcome guests and even new comers rave how they feel like regulars. In fact, if Seinfeld still aired, then most likely the show would've done a segment with Jaz's restaurant, subtly, or not so subtly, inspiring viewers to come here. Guaranteed to impress, satiate, and return for more.

The restaurant is quaint and the service was excellent. We had a party of 7 that fit comfortably at a round table . They have a full bar. The food was incredibly delicious!! I highly recommend the lamb chops, best I’ve ever had. The Chana Masala, chicken tikka masala and chicken kerala were all excellent. The prices are reasonable for being in The City. I highly recommend this restaurant!

We had an absolutely great experience: the Tandoori chicken was moist, and the Fig Lamb was moist and flavorsome to the point where the typical gaminess of lamb was non existent (in short - perfection). The Saffron Shrimp was also full of flavor and moist. My wife and I eat out a lot and Indian food has been on our agenda for years now. Our typical experience has been that Indian food while full of spices and flavor was overly dry. Here at Jaz they do it right! Did I mention how moist all the food is!? :-) The owner Jaz (she named her restaurant after herself) can be found behind the bar. She is a wonderful and engaging person who not only owns her restaurant here, but lives here too! See you again soon Jaz!

It was my first night in town and I happened by this place. I’m so glad I did. Jaz was very welcoming and recommended the fig lamb and lemon rice. Fabulous! The lamb was perfect. This will be my new go-to when I’m in town.

I wandered into Jaz for some take away Indian and came out wishing I’d stayed in to dine. Before even tasting the food, I enjoyed a wonderful glass of wine at the bar and easy conversation with Jaz. There’s nothing better than stumbling into a restaurant and finding an owner who can chat with ease and make a seemingly awkward encounter feel relaxing and warm. The only thing to top the short but great experience at Jaz was getting back to my hotel and discovering a delicious meal that was even better than promised. Next time I’m in New York, I’m coming here!

Came here solo for my birthday last year without a reservation (Sunday night) but was able to be seated right away. It's a small but cozy space, and the smells are intoxicating as soon as you walk in. The food was incredible and hit the spot, just like mom and grandmas cooking. My server even charged my battery pack for me while I ate, as my phone was almost dead and would need it to get home. I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for great Indian food in the city, and love that this is a woman owned business as well.

First time visiting Jaz. Food was okay. Highly recommend having a reservation as they got crowded, and all the tables were packed. The food could have been better spice wise. The staff was polite and friendly.

Quaint restaurant with good ambiance. They have a full bar. Everything we ordered was incredibly delicious! Recommend the lamb chops, chicken kerala, Chana masala, and chicken tikka masala, and naan. My fiance and I were in the mood for Indian food and stumbled across this restaurant in Hells Kitchen. It was absolutely delicious and I still think about it today! I wanted something different from your standard butter chicken or tikja masala so they recommended the chicken kerala which was a chicken curry with fresh ground pepper and coconut milk instead of cream. Stellar decision I'm going to go back for more! My fiancé ordered the tandoori chicken and it was juicy, fresh, and flavorful. Definitely coming back!

I had high expectations because I had seen where someone in my neighborhood had recommended this place. While I will say my entree was decent, the prices were insanely high for what you get. The fact that you have to pay $8 extra just to add rice (when it's normally included at most places) is kind of crazy given that the chicken tikka masala was $25. For that reason alone, I'm not sure I would return. However it is worth noting that the staff was very friendly and our server was great. It was also very clean and they had a cool little bar area.

Had high hopes for Jaz given the high ratings. Jaz, herself, greeted us upon arrival. Service was very accommodating and quite responsive. Decor is rather spartan, but clean. All of the food was a bit bland. I was expecting much more of the flavors normally experienced with the dishes we ordered. One of my colleagues is Indian, visiting NYC from Los Angeles. I had hoped to give him better food in America's culinary capital. I wouldn't claim to be an expert in Indian food, but have been eating it regularly for the past 50+ years so think that I know good Indian food when I eat it. Maybe it was an off night with a substitute chef. Don't think that I will return to find out.

Had made reservations for a table of 5 for Friday evening 7:15 pm and after arriving late by 10 mins, were still lucky enough to be seated on our large table which was right by the entrance door. Every time the door opened a nice little winter breeze kept reminding me how cold it was out there! We ordered appetizers which included a very delicious serving of Shrimp Balchao ($12) - 4 pieces, and an extremely horrible veggie appetizer - Lasuni Gobi ($7) which did not have a single piece of Lasun aka garlic in it. What made it even worse was it was mixed in Tomato Ketchup and I could barely finish it. Also ordered some Papadam ($3) - 2 pieces which was served with chutney. Main courses though was a completely different story and we ordered a Vegetarian Biryani ($19), Goat Biryani ($24) + ($5 Raita), Kerala Chicken ($22) along with an Onion Kulcha ($6), Garlic Naan ($6), and Aloo Paratha ($6) which were all tasty! Service was good, food arrived within 25 minutes of ordering, and the place got really busy and was packed to capacity by 8:30 pm. Noise levels went from low to medium, along with the background music which started around 8:15 pm or so. Decently priced menu - so would definitely recommend this place for anyone who is looking for some good tasting Indian food around Hells Kitchen!

Super tasty. Felt fairly authentic although does cater to Americans. Don't know if it's the "best" Indian food in Hell's Kitchen, but you will not be disappointed. Unfortunately, no dishes knocked it out of the park for me and I consider myself an Asian food connoisseur. Def get the samosas and garlic naan. Aloo gobi matar (cauliflower) was good. The okra was bland and ok. The butter chicken was ok. More tomatoe-y than I'd like. Same with the vindaloo which was almost like a marinara sauce. The butter chicken was odd slices of chicken breast that were super dry. It was like they took frozen chicken strips and sliced them. Little chicken medallions. The vindaloo chicken was thigh chunks which were definitely more juicy and the tomato had a chunkier texture. They're getting four stars because the staff was nice and the ambiance felt fancy for a casual place. It's def not cheap, but if you're with a group and each ordered a dish and shared and got rice (doesn't come with) and extra naan you could be full. The serving dish makes the entrees looks tiny but their deep so it's normal sized. They should get flatter dishware. If you're newer to Indian food this place will suffice. If you're a pro and wanna be challenged or impressed, keep looking.

Jaz was delicious. Very friendly owner and staff. Good service and nice ambiance. A bit pricey but worth it. We really enjoyed the flavors.

Food was good, and service was very attentive, a little too formal for my taste, but no complaints here. What really ruined our experience at jaz was the bill. All the items we ordered had an upcharge. We asked about it and they said they would give us a discount (match the price on the menu) if we paid cash. I tried to explain to them: 1- It's not a discount if you upcharge the bill first and then remove the upcharge when paying cash 2- Credit card surcharge is not mentioned on the menu nor anywhere else 3- Finally I explained to Jaz (the owner) that I have a very long experience in restaurant management and I knew that what they were doing was illegal. In NY you can give a discount when you pay cash but the bill MUST reflect the prices on the menu! Needless to say she refused to remove the upcharge.

Local spot with solid Indian fare especially for delivery. This is my go to for takeout with the caveat that I almost always order... 1) vegetable samosa 2) goat curry 3) saag paneer 4) garlic naan All of the above are as good as any delivery Indian food I have ordered in NYC (and I have lived in Murray Hill, Jamaica, and Jackson Heights). I did dine in once and the staff (who are pretty much the ownership) are very friendly. For dine in I tried a few more dishes and was not impressed by anything outside of my usual order which is the main reason for the 4 stars. Overall do not hesitate to order delivery to fill that craving for Indian food - the order is almost always correct and consistently tasty. Sometimes being solid and reliable is more important than being the best.

A neighborhood gem. Great food, excellent service in a comfortable setting. Our go to for Indian food in the neighborhood.

My husband and I had theatre tickets in the area and we both love Indian food; I've been a huge fan of Indian for 30+ years and have had the good fortune to experience my share of great indian dishes all over the world, but tonight's pre theatre dinner was outstanding; i had the best Palak Paneer I have ever had in my entire life. The atmosphere was elegant and yet casual at the same time, it was just such a wonderful find for just strolling around . Jaz came over to shake my hand and thank us for coming in, that is such a nice touch, very old New York, I will definitely be back and will bring more friends !

I haven't tried Indian food since 2017 but me and my girlfriend were in the mood so we gave this place a shot and I'm so happy we went there. Jaz was so nice to us and welcoming I ordered the Chicken Biryani and my girlfriend ordered the chicken tikka masalla we also got the garlic naan and omg everything was perfect we will definitely go back! Few things here led to a slightly disappointing experience. First, our order came out wrong. I ordered a lamb saag, but it came with chicken. I still ate it because I didn't want to wait for a new dish, and it was fine, but that's just a big miss. The peshwari naan was also disappointing. Just not very flavorful, kind of bland. The flavors on the saag and my wife's daal were both pretty good, but not great. Overall not sure I'll return. The prices are a bit high for the level of quality here, and I wasn't impressed the first time around.

If you're looking for delicious and authentic Indian food, this is the place! Warm and welcoming stop and as good as it gets! The owners Jaz and her husband are wonderful and it's definitely reflected in their food. The ambiance is relaxing and calm like you're enjoying a good meal in your own home. Don't sleep on this place!

Delicious Peshawari naan- I cannot recommend enough. We shared the goat biriyani & lamb vindaloo. Goat was flavorful and vindaloo sauce tangy creamy earthy. Lamb a wee bit dried and doesn't seem flavored but covered in deep red sauce. This spot is busy and for good reason. Great choice for pre or post theater meal. Will be back.

Ordered take in last night. Everything arrived piping hot, and tasted very fresh, but so bland! I don't like my food overly spicy, but this tasted like baby food, too sweet and with no heat for balance. Garlic naan was the best thing we tried. Saag paneer was a lighter, fresher, beautifully green version, but it needed salt - and heat. Chicken tikka was way too sweet. Tandoori chicken was good, and my husband devoured an okra dish. You could do worse.

They seated our party of 6 without a reservation and were very nice about it. The food was delicious and the service was friendly. The owner Jaz was playful and patient with us and we would absolutely return!

Food was decent. We tried a fried cauliflower appetizer wherein the varied sizes of the cauliflower bits and the fried shell doused in sauce made for an uneven textural experience. The curry entree came with lots and lots and lots of basmati rice. Mango lassi was poured from a gallon jug. It tasted okay, but once the spell was broken I felt worse having ordered it. Our experience was marred by suboptimal service. The owner alone tried to hold down the fort on a busy weekend lunch service but we waited a VERY long time. Things only flowed when he called in the troops, i.e. his wife.

Food was very mediocre. Tandoor chicken was among the worst I have ever had. I think the chicken may have been in the refrigerator too long. The butter chicken was even worse. I don't really understand the rating - it appears most of the good reviews were planted or paid for. Service was bad. Additionally, they lost my credit card after payment, and I had to replace it. There are so many other options, including Indian food. AVOID

I mistakenly ignored the 1-star reviews. I ordered Baingain Bharta and Aloo Paratha. Baingain Bharta is typically made without cream, and is full of spices. Aloo Paratha is typically a healthy wheat bread that's stuffed with spicy potatoes. What arrived instead was a cream-based Baingain, that was neither spicy nor flavorful. It simply was bland. The Aloo was covered in ghee, and the potatoes had no taste at all. This was by far the most bland food, of any kind, that I've ever had. To top it off, the two items were $29 before tax and tip. For the next victim of this restaurant, I offer you this list of awesome NYC Indian food. If you agree this list is awesome, then avoid Jaz Indian at all cost. The most bland Indian food I've had in my life! Do yourself a favor and steer clear. The Aloo Gobi and Dal weren't even salted. There was no Indian spice at all. Even Applebee's will season your food. Avoid!

This is the best Indian restaurant I've ever been to! The food is amazing specially the butter chicken 5/5! The service was 4/5 and nice but service was good! The view was fabulous!

First of all I would like to congratulate the owner Jaz for opening up this beautiful Indian restaurant. I loved the ambience. Nice hospitality by the manager. He was quick to take our order and acknowledge the queries we had. Coming to the food part, they really make sure to match it to your taste and demands. We have a friend who is completely vegan, so they suggested good vegan options. The food we ordered was Baigan Bharta (Eggplant), Aloo Gobi Mutter masala, Vegetable Biryani, and Samosa. My personal favorite was Baigan Bharta and samosa. For take out order I took Samosa and Kheer (Rice Pudding) and the Kheer was delicious. I didn't have such a delicious kheer in a long time. It was mouthwatering and I'm visiting this restaurant only to have kheer haha. Of course I'm going to check the other items on the menu as well and also, curious to try the cocktail menu. This is a new Indian place in Hell's Kitchen with mostly Northern Indian and British Indian food (With neither being surprising from the known chef.) The place was moderately empty when we arrived but by the time we left it was completely packed. The service was very friendly though perhaps they came over a but too many times but that did mean that the water was refilled constantly which was useful for some of the other people there. Jaz came over at one point and she was very friendly. Anyway, I went there with five others and the food overall was tasting with a few minor exceptions. Why would say the main dishes are definitely cheaper than many other Indian spots, I will also point out that this place doesn't provide rice with your main dish which I'm feeling a lot of Indians will scoff at. They gave us the drink menu a bit early and it oddly only shows a mango drink as well as wine without listing their beers, the cocktails listed online, and the non-alcoholic drinks. As per usual, I asked whether they have sweet lassi but they only have mango ones so I stuck with water. In terms of appetizers, I started off by sharing the tandoori platter and another person ordered the lasuni gobi. Tandoori Platter- Chicken Tikka, Ginger Chicken, and Lamb Seekh Kebab (15$) The chicken tikka was the strongest of the three as it was moist and very flavorful though it was hard to compare to the one I had most recently. The kebab was fine though not as good as most places on Lex and the ginger chicken was good also. This would make a good appetizer to share. Lasuni Gobi- Cauliflower florets batter-fried, garlic sauce (6$) This was fine at 6 (for the prices) but the flavors were a little bit light. For my main dish, I got the lamb kolhapui along with lemon rice and a peshawari naan. Lamb Kolhapuri- Cubes of Lamb Tempered With Curry Leaves, Dry Red Chili, Coconut Sauce (20$) I asked for this dish to be spicy though I have feeling that they might have toned it down slightly but the flavors were nice. There was unfortunately one piece of lamb that was quite chewy (perhaps some gristle) but the flavors of the curry were well developed with a coconut but it wasn't overly sweet. Overall it was tasty. I also tried a bit of the chicken tikka masala which was good with a not super sweet sauce and another person had the lamb saag what they liked. The lemon rice was a big enough portion that I think two or three people could share and it was well flavored also. The peshawari naan was not as sweet as I thought it would be with not as much coconut and there were some golden raisins in it which one is nice for the texture and flavor. Another person got the tandoori roti which they liked and I tried a bit of the garlic naan which was also lightly spiced. We were about to order dessert (primarily kheer) and the maître d' called the waiter over and they provided us with two large bowls of kheer free of charge which was very nice. This was a fantastic version as it was not too sweet and I would recommend it. Overall the food here was good though I think some people used to spicier Indian food might prefer other places. I would most relate this place to the old school Indian places in the Village for better and for worse. I wish the spices were a little stronger but the Indian food here is definitely better than anything in the surrounding area. Mid 3 rounded up for the excellent service.

I had a really nice date night here! The interior is very clean and elegant, with white table cloths and a fresh flower on every table. The owner, Jaz, introduced herself and seated us quickly. I appreciate how accommodating she was even thougg we didn't have a reservation. We shared aloo gobi and chicken tikka masala. Rice/naan isnt included with the entrees, so we ordered 1 of each. The tikka masala wasn't too spicy, and went well with garlic naan. It was the perfect amount of food for the two of us, and we left happily full.

This restaurant was awful from start to finish. We ordered tandoori chicken and the breast meat was actually raw. Pink fleshy raw. When I alerted the wait staff they took it away and said nothing. The took the chicken off the bill, but did not apologize for serving us raw chicken. Offered us a free dessert. Really? The rest of the dishes were incredibly bland. Even the naan was bad. I was really shocked at the poor quality of food and service. I should have turned around once I saw how empty the restaurant was on a Saturday night... Live and learn!

Food and service was ok.. however they charge you more than the menu price when paying by credit card. This isn't written on the menu anywhere. I believe this practice is actually illegal. If you want to give someone a discount for paying by cash, so be it. Don't automatically charge people more than what's on your menu. That's bad business!

This place is amazing. My group came to close out a week and catch up and we ordered the Onion Fritters, Lasuni Gobi, Saffron Shrimp, Lamb Chops, Chicken Tikka Masala, Kulfi, and Gulab Jamin. Before I get into my favorites, I need you to know that each one is straight delicious. I can tell that the chefs thought about each ingredient and tried to make sure that each flavor sang. My favorites are: 1. The Lamb Chops, they're SO tender, so well spiced but not overpowering in anyway. This is my new standard for perfect Lamb Chops. 2. Gulab Jamin, I'm a bit of a Gulab Jamin connoisseur and this is easily the best Gulab Jamin I've had in Manhattan. Usually to get comparable Gulab Jamin I need to go to either Jackson Heights or deep in Jersey. 3. Lasuni Gobi, this reminded me of Gobi Manchurian but with a decadant garlic sauce that reminds me of some American-Chinese dishes. This place is amazing and I WILL be back!

This was some of the worst Indian food I've ever had. The lamb chettinad was completely flavorless, the samosas were undercooked, and the chicken tikka masala tasted like it was smothered in hot sauce. It didn't taste like any other chicken tikka masala I've ever had. I would have given 1 star, but the ambience was nice and the waiter was extremely friendly.

Absolutely delicious! The place was very cozy and enjoyable. The food couldn't be better. I love that it feels like you are walking into someones home to have dinner. The people are delightful. I truly recommend it!

I ordered the butter chicken ($22) and the peshawari naan ($6). For the peshawari naan, the raisins and almonds were present, but the coconut stuffing was very subtle, way too subtle. The butter chicken was good; however, I can see where some reviewers say that the taste is so one dimensional. This is the type of Indian food you can bring back to the office for lunch. I'm used to that "it" factor when it comes to Indian food. The owner Jaz I met and she was super super friendly and nice. Prices are up there because of being in Hell's Kitchen. I would sparingly come back.

So I came tonight for dinner and the menu prices and my bill were different. Everything they added an additional cost. If they had indicated that their prices had changed then that's one thing but there was no notification at all. The service and food was fine and certainly wouldn't have warranted this review. I spoke to the manager and she made no attempt to apologize or change the bill to the amount notes on the menu. I am appalled by this and this is why I am writing a yelp review I didn't want to make a scene as I was treating my daughter to dinner and a night out. . I now am concerned about them being transparent and making sure they don't change my charges again so I will be checking my credit card carefully.

It has taken me some time to sit down and write this review because my family had such a negative experience at Jaz Indian cuisine. I do not understand ANY of the positive reviews at all. We dined here last month as a party of 7 to celebrate a family event. Unfortunately the night was nearly ruined - we ended up eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches at home afterwards! We were still hungry and not satisfied despite a hefty bill. To begin we had really awful service. I mean not only did they not r give enough attention to our table but they were TAKING PICTURES and videos of us while we were eating!!!! multiple times throughout the dinner I saw one of the employees (or owner?) of the restaurant with his phone out recording all of the patrons eating. he would zoom in on our table while taking videos it felt so intrusive and uncomfortable. the food: . The food was really really really bad - just poorly seasoned and overall bland. Had better samosas from trader joes freezer section. The salmon we ordered was not properly cooked through. Even the rice had a poor texture. Chicken was chewy, just cannot find one positive. Lastly, they never returned our credit card to us! We could not wait to get out of there but they made no effort whatsoever and chose their own tip automatically (due to our party size) fine- but still return our credit card to us! Avoid ! Beware! You have now been warned!

Beautiful restaurant, great Indian food, an incredible owner. We've been meaning to go here for some time and finally got a night out. Creamy Tikka masala, perfect chicken byriani and possibly the warmest, softest, garlicky tasty Naan we've ever had. Really nice and thoughtful wine list. What made our night was the table visit from Jaz herself. Incredibly lovely, gracious and warm. Definitely go dine at this female owned neighborhood gem.

I've walked past Jaz so many times and kept thinking, "I ought to give it a try," and I'm so glad I did! My boyfriend and I were welcomed by Jaz herself. She was kind, attentive, and conversational. She took such great care of us, and you could tell she had immense pride in her work. We ordered the onion fritters, chicken biryani, lamb biryani, a glass of shiraz, and a mango martini. The onion fritters were fried to perfection and came with a lovely, creamy green sauce. The chicken biryani was out of this world! The chicken was tender, and the dish was packed with flavor. The same goes for the lamb biryani! The scene-stealer was the mango martini. It was quite strong, but the mango added juuust enough sweetness. It was a lovely cocktail! I will definitely be returning to this restaurant! Major shout out to Jaz herself for creating a lovely evening for us.

I ordered delivery. Jaz took the order, herself. I couldn't help but compliment her beautiful London accent. They were speedy, delivering in under 30 minutes. I chose lamb sag, goat curry, baigan, garlic and keema naan. Meats were succulent and flavorful. This was my first proper meal in town and what a feast it was. My dad originally told me he wasn't hungry. I told him to sit down anyway and sure enough we both ate a ton. An expensive dinner, for sure ($110 before tip), but we had leftovers. I could have saved money on bread had I seen that rice was included with each plate but ultimately I was happier knowing the garlic naan in the fridge, for later. I wish I could take them back to ABQ.

Worst food. Deep fried bad samosas. Paneer Tiikka was all made with half and half milk. Food was very unhealthy. Please do not go there ever. I am very honest.

I don't usually write reviews but I've eaten at A LOT of indian restaurants and Jaz is definitely in my top 5! the interior decor was so beautiful. the food was super delicious and authentic - VERY decent prices despite having a more upscale feel. we got lasuni gobi to start, very well seasoned. chicken shahi korma and chicken biryani to share, both were absolutely delicious!! (if your go-to is chicken tikka masala and you want to try something new, definitely go for the shahi korma). we got the garlic naan and peshawari naan (stuffed with raisin, almonds, and coconut). now, this was my first time having peshawari naan and it was OUT OF THIS WORLD. I could eat this everyday!! we finished with the rasmalai - perfect end to the perfect meal. Jaz is new to the neighborhood but I have no doubt it will soon be one of hell kitchen's favorites - definitely check out this amazing restaurant and show your support! can't wait to come back for another date night :)

What a wonderful gem on the corner of 9th/54th. We stopped in on a whim and could not have been more pleased. The Indian cuisine was exactly what wanted with the right spice/heat combo and serving size. The Kheer (rice pudding with cardamom) is a heavenly indulgence. Jaz, herself tends bar and is a warm and welcoming Londoner.

On Sunday we stumbled upon Jaz! What a great find. We love Indian food and rarely find a good place with good food, atompshere and good friendly wait staff. Jaz met all of our exceptations from the food to the service and small intimate atomsphere. We can't wait to go back!

The food here is amazing...honestly the best Indian my family and I have ever had! Jazz and her staff were incredibly accommodating and the kindest people. We are from out of state and I will spread the word to everyone that it's a must go and it's definitely a place you want to visit to if you're going to NY. Honestly the food was absolutely delicious!!
