The 19 Best Rooftop Bars In NYC - New York - The Infatuation

"If Make Believe and Mr. Purple are the rooftop equivalents of 22-year-olds who just learned that fabric softener isn’t the same thing as detergent, Jimmy is a 30-year-old who separates whites and colors. This rooftop at the ModernHaus Soho hotel has a big indoor area with a fireplace, hardwood floors, and modular sofas. There’s also a patio with a view of lower Manhattan and a pool that could fit roughly one pick-up truck. Yes, you can actually swim in the pool." - Bryan Kim, Neha Talreja, Kenny Yang, Nikko Duren

A New Rooftop Bar In The East Village + More NYC Roof Reopenings - New York - The Infatuation

"The rooftop at Modernhaus SoHo hotel in Soho reopened their big indoor area with a fireplace, hardwood floors, and modular sofas, as well as the big patio with a view of lower Manhattan and a pool that could fit roughly one pickup truck. Reservations are available here, and the pool will be available to non-hotel guests starting on May 22nd 5pm Monday through Friday, and on weekends after 3pm. In the past this place has felt slightly less “shots shots shots” than other downtown rooftops like Mr. Purple and Make Believe, and more like a lounge for beautiful people to lounge and be beautiful. Do with that information what you will." - Hannah Albertine

Google
Went pre dinner, to have cocktails to celebrate 32nd birthday. The most AMAZING views in 4 directions. Our waitress was beyond wonderful and the drinks delicious. Very attractive crowd, mixed ages, and fabulous music. My favorite rooftop bar downtown

Amandip Kaur

Google
Awesome rooftop with great views of the city. Vibes were great and service was also great. I recommend coming during golden hour and getting the golden sunset cocktail for a relaxing & chill evening.

Google
A secret hidden gem. It's a little difficult to find but well worth it. The rooftop views are like none I've ever seen and seeing the twin tower lights from up high was very profound. It's a very cool environment with a pool and a DJ. Would highly recommend

Rosa Salamea

Google
Always the best DJs, great crowd and lots of foreigners, grown and sexy vibes! P.S. Do not jump in the pool - they will kick you out 😆

cristina marin

Google
Beautiful rooftop with a nice view of the wtc. The only reservation I found available was same day, first thing in the morning. Great food and service w/ a vibrant atmosphere! Perfect spot for a drink at sunset!

Noam Dahan

Google
The cocktails were very good, and the view from the roof is amazing but Didn’t understand couple of things: Why the outdoor seating in on sun beds? why they are not using glass cups? Why some of the food come in disposable? This place is expensive and classy so I didn’t find a reason, yet I will probably come back and recommend this place

Nick Grantham

Google
This place is worth it for the views, but can get a little crowded and is very over priced.

Champagne “Champagne papi” Papi

Google
I was there last night and the bar is really nice, amazing views of the city, everything is good except for the bartenders, they really suck. The drinks are pricey and is not the best service or professional. Go there grab a drink and enjoy the views

Yelp
Still a neighborhood fave! Good dj good vibes great views. Haven't had the food. But the drinks are great

Yelp
Jimmy is located in Moderhaus hotel. Perk if you are a hotel guest you get access to jimmys free of charge. Weekends it seems they charge $20 per person. The views of Soho from Jimmys is beautiful and unmatched. Granted on the weekends this place is bumping so the wait at the bar can take some time. The drinks were also a hit or miss. Otherwise they have a great dj on the weekends and seating available.

Yelp
Great , smooth, calm atmosphere . Very quiet collected vibes. Apparently I came before the rush. Wednesday night at 6pm sunset. That's honestly why I gave it 4 stars. The drinks were okay. Service was cool. Would I come back? Yea. maybe . They have cookies on the menu lol so I want to come back to try that.

Yelp
Amazing views and in soho! It's a great little rooftop bar between Tribeca and soho. The cocktails are fun and average around $20-$25. There's a small 3ft pool. The service was nice. I was here for an event so we had a seating area reserved.
google avatar

Brittany L.

Yelp
The only reason they earned stars at all is because of the view. Unfortunately, the bar tenders were absolute jerks and need a lesson on service. The judgmental tone was enough for me to never come back. The menu on Google is "out of season" and when we ordered a drink from the new menu he seemed pissed he had to make it. Drinks aren't strong or flavorful and are $23. You're paying for the view.

Yelp
I got the Tipsy Watermelon cocktail, which basically tasted like juice. I also had some hamburger sliders, crispy chicken sliders, guacamole and chips, and fries. The fries and guac were okay, but it was the sliders that really got my attention. The burgers had the juiciest meat, and the cheese was melted perfectly on top of it. The crispy chicken sliders were simple but had fresh, crispy lettuce and crispy chicken. The food and drinks themselves were amazing, but in the summer heat, I could barely feel the AC in the indoor section. Outside by the pool, it was a bit difficult getting around without feeling like I'd fall in. The staff was friendly and attentive.

Yelp
Great bar, wonderful views and super helpful bartenders. Definitely has a bit of a bougie vibe to it, the crowd seems to be a mix of business people, influencers, fashion people, and tourists. Amazing vibes by the pool at night when it's not too cold! The prices are extortionate though. I ordered a cocktail that was $50! With tax and tip that's $60 for one very small drink!
google avatar

Yelp
A SoHo hotspot. Great ambiance and fabulous space for photos. The views are immaculate and photo ops are top tier. I brought some friends from out of town here and they were so grateful and have not stopped talking about it! Drinks are great and decently priced, given the area. Bathrooms are nice and clean and also communal. Service was fast and swift.
google avatar

Yelp
If you're going for a drink I recommend going during the week when it's less crowded. Cocktails are very good, just a bit pricey. Views are great
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
Came with a big group without reservation on a Thursday night. We got in without issues. The vibe is classy, but the dj was playing fun music. Crowd was a bit older. It wasn't too crowded. There's a pool for decoration that makes the roof look nicer. The glass of Prosecco was big enough to be 2 glasses.
google avatar

Leslie D.

Yelp
So cute! Had the best time here on a Sunday evening. The DJ was great and crowd was nice. It didn't get over crowded which was great for a New York rooftop. My espresso martini was delicious. I would definitely go back here for casual drinks or a fun night of dancing.
google avatar

Yelp
TGIF Let's go to a rooftop bar today!! I had: 1. Cosmopolitans cocktail Cannot miss rooftop bar when I'm in New York. The vibe is definitely what I was looking for a night life. It has good rooftop view, the trending music, variety of cocktails with the bartender creation when you tell them your preferred alcohol based, the swimming pool for some IG photos. There are contemporary artworks at this rooftop bar that makes it really beautiful at night.

Yelp
Jimmy Soho is a classy rooftop with an unbeatable view. Its upscale, classy ambiance sets the stage for an unforgettable evening. Whether you're enjoying a cocktail or simply savoring the stunning cityscape, Jimmy offers a unique and enchanting experience. The vibes were not super lively but still it is a must-visit for those seeking a touch of elegance paired with breathtaking views in the heart of the city.

Yelp
Ventured into this SoHo rooftop bar for a swift happy hour escape and left thoroughly impressed. The libations were crafted to perfection, offering a delightful blend of flavors that complemented the stunning views. Quick service and a lack of lengthy waits added to the overall positive experience, while the friendly staff ensured a welcoming atmosphere. This rooftop oasis in the heart of SoHo seamlessly combines fantastic drinks, panoramic views, and efficient service, making it a go-to spot for those seeking a brief respite with a touch of elevated elegance.

Yelp
My wife and I came here for a drink while visiting. I couldn't resist because of the name! The view is awesome, very trendy rooftop area. Our bartender was so nice, and the woman managing things even gave me a Jimmy hat. Met great new friend!
google avatar

Yelp
"Take your Out of Towners here" Yeah it is a bit pretentious and yes it's pricey, but this is a good go to place for skyline views without absurd waitlists or having connections with the mafia. This is a classic NYC bar decor and atmosphere- dark lit, slightly dressy, doorman and hostess, well made cocktails, deep roster of bourbons and scotches. Great to impress those from fly over country without fighting the hoi polloi in Times Square or a Midtown rooftop. What's to cheer - Good, attentive service - You can reserve a table without paying for bottle service - they have a pool! - you can walk outside on the deck and they have a bar out there - it's never too crowded - Cocktails are well made What's to jeer - the food isn't so great - it's a little pricey

Yelp
Invited here for a birthday celebration. They sectioned off part of the lounge for us and you could either order from the bar or there were waiters/waitresses wandering around taking orders. The cocktails were decent with a lot of mid range to top shelf selections. A pleasant change from the run of the mill speed rack swill that a lot of bars use for cocktails. The hosts had pre-ordered the food (appetizers and finger foods) so we had no choice on what to order. The guacamole was excellent. The charcuterie platters were fairly standard stuff with the exception of the blue cheese which was great. The pizza didn't arrive until the party was winding down but I have no idea whether this was the host's choice or the kitchen's. The views from here are wonderful and while I am no rooftop expert, this is a place I would return to. NB- As suburban dwellers, we opted to drive in (I would have taken the train but was overruled by all 3 of my co-travelers) and found street parking a block away from here.

Yelp
4th of July Monday around 4pm This place has been on my list and since we were in the area, we decided to check it out. It was pretty empty when we first arrived as everyone in NY was in Montauk or the Hampton's but I was glad we had so much space and the attentive service. Apparently the pool rooftop is free to get into before 5pm and you are able to access the pool. We cooled off by dipping our feet in. It was so nice with drinks in-hand with the sun beaming down. DJ came around that time as well and was spinning throwback tunes which we enjoyed. The bathrooms smelled nice and were very clean. Really loved the indoor space as well -- which was super stylish and had views straight out to the pool area with the open layout. Loved the sky high views and mezcal cocktails. Drinks are pricey but strong. Would like to come back to see it in full swing.

Yelp
Had a great time at Jimmy Soho! I came on a Thursday with a friend once they opened and it wasn't busy at all until people started coming in after work (I'm guessing). The place looked even better than the photos! Very modern and classy. The view was stunning and the best one I've seen yet. We were seated on the outside of the rooftop at one of the lounge seats and unfortunately it was super sunny so it was really hot. We could have went to the indoor part but the view was too nice. Our waitress was welcoming and attentive. The bartenders were also nice. For drinks I ordered the strawberry mule and it was delicious! Later on we had the sauvignon blanc and it was great too. We were a bit hungry so we ordered the burger sliders. It came in good time. Only thing is she never asked what cook we wanted it and I only realized afterward when the burger was too squishy for my liking. It was flavorful though. We stayed until nighttime and the DJ was AMAZING the whole time there. He played so many genres like R&B, rap, dancehall, pop, reggaeton. The crowd did not deserve that DJ honestly haha. Me and my friend made new friends there and we were dancing and having a lot of fun. I am worried someone may get too drunk and fall in the pool though...overall great time and service!
google avatar

Oriana C.

Yelp
I would love to say this place was amazing, but I was expecting too much. My drink barely had a taste, nothing too special. The bartenders were nice and the place was empty(we went on a Wednesday night) Unfortunately they closed earlier as it was very dead so we weren't there for more than 30 minutes. Nice views but hopefully they fixed their drinks to have more punch

Yelp
Jimmy is a rooftop bar with a wonderful view and great specialty cocktails. Their cocktails tend to be on the stronger side, especially the whiskey-based drinks. I would recommend the Raspberry Fizz- a gin, raspberry, and lime cocktail. It comes with a few raspberries and is refreshing for a hot summer night! The cocktails range from $20-50 so this is definitely a special occasion and not a casual bar. Some of the bartenders are incredibly kind and will even whip up a cocktail of their own creation if you give them a couple of parameters. Other bartenders might be rather short with you so it's hard to predict what your experience will be.
google avatar

Yelp
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE: I recently tried to visit Jimmy and I had a very bad experience. When I arrived, the person at the door was on the phone and seemed to pay little attention to us. The individual didn't acknowledge our presence or even put the phone down while responding to our questions. The reception was rather rude and left a bad impression on me.
google avatar

Leela K.

Yelp
Killer views and killer drinks. A literal hidden gem in NYC. The cocktails taste so good, I had to pace myself. The crowd was cool and low key, nothing like the city skyline. The music was spot on with the vibes - underground hip hop to keep your head nodding. Possibly my new favorite bar in this neck of the woods.
google avatar

Sejal M.

Yelp
10/10 drinks, 10/10 ambiance, 10/10 view. Although rooftops may come off as basic this one certainly was not. All 3 of our drinks were made perfectly. We went on a Monday night so there wasn't much of a crowd but still a good vibe. Perfect way to end a night or even for a girls night
google avatar

Martina S.

Yelp
Meh? Pros: great drink and bartenders. View is pretty good but outside is only good prob March-Aug only (came in Nov when it was windy and not enjoyable). Cons: not the best rooftop view in the city for sure. Place is super crammed and small - while you get the view of the freedom tower and Brooklyn bridge - you only get it in select areas. No seating at the bar so standing room only. Just all around meh? If you're staying in the hotel this place is a win. I would not travel to here if it wasn't across the street from me.

Julia B.

Yelp
Very rude man in from of the door, not professional at all. It's many other rooftops with great view, don't waste your time coming here
google avatar

Honesti D.

Yelp
First and Foremost, let me just say I want so badly for this to be one of my favorite go to's in the city but asides from visiting this venue twice, I think I'm going to have to go a few more times to feel it our more. I will say that I absolutely love the Grilled pineapple Mojito, and the scenery was nice! However, the service and hospitality wasn't all that great, but I felt it could have been better. Good vibes tho
google avatar

Christina P.

Yelp
We came here on a Sunday and the vibes and music were great! If you get there around 4-5pm there is plenty of space and chairs to sit. The drinks are pricy like normal NY rooftops and bars, but it is a great vibes. Get shots and you'll save money. We tried the frose, wash tiger, and coffee martini.
google avatar

Marissa N.

Yelp
Jimmy is a vibe. Insane cocktails, views of the city, best staff. Highly highly recommend for anything. Best rooftop in the city hands down.
google avatar

M R.

Yelp
Contemporary rooftop with a sexy chill vibe and a great view. Indoor and outdoor seating and standing room. Service at the door and the bar was quick and friendly. Drinks are standard with NYC prices. All ages, casual to dressy.
google avatar

Yelp
We held a friend's 40th birthday here and the staff could not have been more amazing. From the beginning, Sayora was incredibly attentive, responsive, and willing to accommodate any of our requests. She was very reasonable with everything and was a great partner in arranging the event. Upon getting to the Jimmy Rooftop, we were amazed by the beautiful views of the city, nice staff, and great location. The attendants for our semi-private section of the bar were on top of things and took great care of us. The appetizers we ordered were delicious - we snuck the remaining beef skewers back to our room after our party was over. If you're going just for the night, note that it can get a bit crowded, so get there early! Highly recommend this place for an event if you can swing it - they will take amazing care of you!
google avatar

Maria J.

Yelp
You come and pay for the view! It's amazing! Drinks were good, quite expensive but that's nothing new in New York. Noted it was more of a locals type of rooftop, which is what I wanted!
google avatar

Nerissa R.

Yelp
I've been on the hunt for rooftops that are open all-year round and on my first stop, I decided to visit Jimmy. Jimmy is located on the 18th floor of the Modernhaus SoHo Hotel. I think that this rooftop offers one of the best views of all of NYC and even NJ. It is a modern, upscale, trendy and lowkey rooftop with an array of cocktails and a good range of small bites to enjoy with friends or coworkers. We ordered the Grilled Pineapple Mojito and a regular mojito, both of which were pretty good and fairly priced considering it's a rooftop bar. On the terrace of the rooftop, there is a pool which is usually open to the public on the weekends during the summer. The restrooms were located on the same floor and they were very clean and also offered great views of the city! It's safe to say that I'll definitely back at Jimmy during the summer to get the full experience, and I highly recommend checking it out! Drinks: 5 out of 5 Service: 5 out of 5 Ambiance: 5 out of 5 (loved it!) Value: 4 out of 5 ($$) Noise level: 4 out of 5 Overall rating: 5 out of 5

Maria Camila P.

Yelp
I had a terrible experience when I went with a large group of approximately 25 people. We only planned to stay for a maximum of 2 hours, and we were surprised when the staff demanded that each of us spend a minimum of $100. We simply wanted to enjoy 1 or 2 drinks before continuing with our night, so we found this request to be absolutely ridiculous and without mentioning the terrible attitude of the staff
google avatar

Chuck P.

Yelp
Great spot on an early fall evening. The views were spectacular and company even better.
google avatar

Goliath R.

Yelp
Oh hello NYC.! Gorgeous views, sexy vibes, excellent cocktails, tasty snacks... great service... What else can one ask for?!! Love coming here when in town
google avatar

Huong D.

Yelp
Came in on a Monday and the bartender was terrible. He wasn't managing the crowd or line well at all. He spilled my drink so half of it was gone. Don't get the cocktails if you go here. They aren't good, lack flavor, and of course they are pricey. The view is cool but overall, the service is terrible. I think there were servers but they definitely ignored us if so. I had made a reservation for 3 on a bench and my friends who had gotten there before me said they were sat inside and not at a bench. We ended up snagging a bench on our own thankfully. I've been here a handful of times now to take out of towners but I don't think I'll be back.
google avatar

Lea M.

Yelp
A classic NYC staple in TriBeCa. Excellent drinks, service, crowd and VIEWS! The bartenders are friendly, attentive and professional. Antonio and Rafael are the best. Be sure to take pics outside on the rooftop patio for incredible panoramic downtown/Freedom Tower views. The bathrooms are similar to the ones at the Standard with a nice city view.
google avatar

Gabby T.

Yelp
I've been visiting the JIMMY for over a year now and have consistently had a great experience whether it was with the awesome staff members who go out of their way to make you comfortable & accommodated or the rotating list of seasonal drinks, this place never fails. It is great for birthday celebrations or a sunny Saturday if you're looking to lounge by the pool! It is upscale, trendy and has great music for all ages. When you visit, I highly recommend ordering the frosé, it is fantastic!
google avatar

Garima G.

Yelp
Came here at 3pm when they just opened and it was fairly empty so grabbed a couch! The weather and vibes were perfect!! I tried their gin and grapefruit drink which was so good but also so strong!! By 5pm the spot started getting more crowded and the music got louder and better! The views by the pool are great. Drinks are obviously pricey but expected at the rooftop!
google avatar

Gerri B.

Yelp
Came here for a movie screening that I actually missed because of email error (not their fault) and the Host Spikes was so understanding. We still stayed and glad we did. It's a cute and intimate roof top bar/lounge setting with a small pool overlooking NYC. The sunset was awesome. I loved the Frosé! There's indoor and outdoor options. Staff was very pleasant and prompt.

Yelp
Oh Jimmy, you're so fine, you're so fine...Wait, is that how the song goes?? Jimmy at the James was a spontaneous decision that I made with my fiancé the weekend after Christmas. We had gone to a Christmas themed bar prior to visiting Jimmy and were so disappointed, that we just tried to find the next best place that would serve us a boozy hot chocolate. Jimmy came up first in my search in terms of distance, and so we went for it. The drink prices....well....they are pricey. But, the atmosphere is amazing. My fiancé and I found a spot on the couches with a beautiful view of the city, and a small round table for us to put our drinks on and had the BEST. TIME. EVER. We were there from about 10 pm - 12 am because the music that the DJ was playing was so on point. From throwbacks to Soca, to pop, rap, etc. Perfect time. There were people constantly looking around to make sure empty drinks were taken away, and the bartenders were awesome as well. They definitely added an extra shot in my boozy hot chocolate because that was STRONG. Overall, definitely a pricey place but it is worth it for the time spent/experience. I definitely recommend!
google avatar

Chris K.

Yelp
Needed a place to chill and relax on a hot summer day and saw good reviews for this place online. We arrived and waited about 10 mins in line to get in. It's a fun rooftop with great views and a small pool to dip your feet in or cool off by. Drinks were great and fun music. Would definitely recommend and go back for a daytime drink.
google avatar

Mahsa T.

Yelp
I've been to the Jimmy a few times and while it's not the best in terms of ambiance (it's heavily touristy), the views make up for it. Both times I've been here for the earlier crowd - have not been here when/if it gets clubby later at night. Very slow service at the bar. Drinks are not very strong, a bit watered down. Beautiful outdoor area with a pool and amazing downtown views!
google avatar

Vinay S.

Yelp
Contemporary Rooftop located within the James Hotel which has a healthy amount of area to overlook most of New York. The drinks, however, are painfully priced and the music doesn't really pop off. $25 a drink. 3.75/5 stars as a rooftop.
google avatar

Edward W.

Yelp
We came on a Friday night without reservation and managed to walk in. The rooftop is decently sized with an even inside, outside split. The main view is of the World Trade Center, which is quite nice. Air up on the roof top is a few temperatures cooler than ground level, which is refreshing on a hot summer day. They serve frose by the pool for $20 each. It didn't taste alcoholic at all, but it does have a nice frozen consistency.
google avatar

Yelp
~Classy Crowd, Jaw-Dropping Skyline, & Fruity Cocktails~ I decided to come to the Jimmy on a Tuesday after work with a small group of friends and was surprised to find the rooftop bustling with young people. We ordered mojitos and the bartender even made a special drink with blackberries and Hendrick's Gin for our friend who had just celebrated a birthday! Simply put, the view is breathtaking---especially at sunset. The view feels like a 360 degree tour of New York and the WTC is the focal point. We may have just been lucky, hut the colors of the sunset are accentuated in this rooftop, making the Jimmy a perfect backdrop for your next insta pic. The pool takes up most of the rooftop and is surrounded by (pretty uncomfortable) outdoor seating, which on a summer weekday at 6 pm is pretty easy to snatch. I really appreciated that the music wasn't blasting so I could still enjoy a conversation with my friends. Overall, the Jimmy is definitely a must in New York! And in my opinion, it's even better when you can beat the crowds...and maybe even catch a golden sunset!
google avatar

Claudia R.

Yelp
One of my favorite rooftop bars when visiting NYC. Located in Soho, while cocktails are little pricey even for NYC ($18 or so), it's always posh, music is great, and the crowd is usually always classy and sophisticated. I definitely prefer this rooftop bar to others. I even introduced one of my friends who is an NYC local and she was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed it. And the view is pretty amazing!

Rachel T.

Yelp
Rude bouncer and expensive drinks. There's better places to go in New York where you're not treated horribly while spending your hard earned money. Avoid this place.
