Best Barbecue Restaurants in Phoenix, Arizona | Eater Phoenix

"Entering this squat brick building in downtown Gilbert is stepping back in time. Service is cafeteria-style and friendly. People tuck into root beer floats and peach cobblers. The menu is deep, and many barbecue mainstays are well represented. Smokers use local Arizona pecan wood. Some ingredients are local, many even from nearby Agritopia, which is owned by Joe Johnston, same as Joe’s. Highlights? You’d do well to both embrace tradition and steer off the beaten path. Bone-in dark meat chicken off the smoker is a hit. So is the barbecue chicken salad with Fritos and sour cream." - Chris Malloy

What a great place to celebrate a birthday! The line servers were so hospitable and friendly, exactly what you'd expect if the Walton's went for a meal on the town We ordered a 2 meat platter, with sliced brisket and ribs. Both were succulent, but that moist brisket is some of the best we've ever had. Great Americana ambiance with homemade BBQ sauce, and... Homemade Root Beer on fountain! The best root beer you'll find is right here, and they can serve it as a float. The Mac and cheese is tasty with a breadcrumb topping, and the potato salad was ok. If you have any room left in your breadbasket, then finish off your meal with a peach cobbler, a la mode. I was happier than a squealing pig running through a pen full of farmer's daughters.

My family loves going to Joe’s Real Barbecue, especially for birthdays since they give you $14 off your meal. I always go for the house salad with chopped brisket it’s juicy, full of flavor, and so good I don’t even need dressing. The portions are big, the food’s satisfying, and we enjoy hanging out at the picnic tables while the kids play games like cornhole and Twister.

We ordered the big feast and some amazing sides that included the baked beans, mac n cheese, some extra sausages and corn. Meats were absolutely delicious and melt in your mouth! The cornbread was the best I’ve ever had. We will definitely come back!

Google
Easily one of my favorite BBQ spots in AZ. I’m from TX where our BBQ is unrivaled, but Joes serves a very decent plate. Brisket was moist and well seasoned, the sides were tasty, and all for a good value. You will enjoy bringing your family here, just avoid the lines and come early.

The managers recommendation the sampler so we got to one of each between three of us. Oh my God it’s simply amazing. I can’t tell you this is fabulous. Gilbert, Arizona. Plenty parking plenty of seating. Outdoor arena canopies ice cream shop keeps everyone entertain the food was I can’t even tell you how amazing. Jamie, thank you for all the great food. Where the meat literally fell off the bone.

Our group was happy with our food, chicken & pulled pork were a Lil dry, cornbread was dried out like it sat out all day. Salad was amazing, sauces very tasty.

Ordered in for my birthday, so wanted something special. Everything was soggy, lukewarm and undercooked. The potatoes in the cheesey potatoes were actually raw. The rest of the Sides tasted stale/ aged and were cold, absolutely loaded with sugar, unbelievably sweet. The meat quality was the most disappointing out of everything. 1/3 of the brisket was undercooked and under-rendered chunks of fat. Every other bite was fat. The "Jumbo" sandwich was anything but and came completely disassembled and looked as if everything, sides included were thrown into the Styrofoam container. Bun was flattened and soaked. Tiny elote cup was cold and costed 6$ bucks alone! I was also immediately shocked at how light the bag was when I received the order. For two meals it costed 60$, for that much you expect far better quality of food and far bigger portions. Super disappointed, this place used to be quite good. Something has changed for the worst. It was in all honestly a terrible meal. I and my family more than likely won't eat from here again.

Google
Excellent bbq. Lots of choices and combos . Beef brisket , jalapeño sausage and turkey breast are top notch. Fun place to eat with friends and family. Highly recommend this to all.

Yelp
Even through the rapid expansion of the Valley, Joe's Real BBQ still holds up as one of the best barbecue joints! Everything here is pecan-smoked to perfection and wonderfully tender. You can't really go wrong, but the 4-meat sampler plate is a great assortment of some of their best items. Brisket is my absolute favorite -- it's super tender and something between fatty and lean -- and ribs, chicken, and pulled pork are fantastic too. Plus, even as someone who isn't huge into BBQ sauce, I would slather my dishes with Joe's original sauce. It hits the right spot between acidity and sweetness. Cornbread is perfect, especially with honey butter, but the secret superstar: pickles. They are SO crunchy and fresh, balancing the savory heaviness of the meats. And you can get more at the bar! For the included side, I always recommend cheesy potatoes. Parking is easy on the east side of the building, and birthday meals are $14 off with ID. The new-ish patio is big with courtyard games, metal rocking chairs, and lots of extra seating. Highly recommend! Bonus tip: they have a super cool analog photo booth! Try it out!

Yelp
Order take out got the sample it was absolutely delicious i also got sides of mac & cheese, cheesey potatoes, sweet corn, and apple sauce Mac & cheese is more of a velvet-a tasting cheese which is just not a personal favorite The potatoes were dry and also had a few pieces of what looks like green beans stuck to them which was unappealing on a personal end yes took them out but dont like the fact it was crossed to begin with The corn also had a piece of spinach in the bottom but the corn itself is so so tasty Apple sauce is pink apple sauce? Not my favorite All the meat itself was delicious!!

Yelp
My family has dined at Joe's Real Barbecue several times for birthday celebrations. One of the reasons we keep coming back is their birthday deal...you get $14 off your meal, which brings us in multiple times a year. My absolute favorite item is the house salad with chopped brisket and sauce. I asked which meat was the juiciest, and the staff recommended the brisket...it was a great choice. It was so flavorful with the brisket, green onions, and black olives that I didn't even need the dressing (though the dressing is delicious too). I skipped it to save on calories, and the salad was still amazing! Brisket is a premium meat, so it's an extra $1, but it's totally worth it, especially since I can skip the dressing and still enjoy it. Another favorite of mine is the jumbo baker--especially when carbs aren't a concern. Both the salad and the jumbo baker are generously portioned and very filling. My husband and I have even shared in the past so we could save room for dessert. When the weather's nice, Joe's offers both indoor seating and picnic tables outside. Our kids love the outdoor games like cornhole and Twister...it's a great family-friendly atmosphere.

Yelp
Good barbecue at a great price. I had the sampler for around $20. I enjoyed the ribs and chicken the most. Slap some of the gold sauce on the ribs...delicious! The chicken was smoked just right. The pulled pork was a close third. Spicy BBQ sauce with just the right amount of kick, cornbread with honey butter, BBQ beans and cobbler for dessert. Joe's own tasty root beer. Everything was awesome. First of all, I am from Texas and very picky with brisket. Killen's and Truth BBQ in Houston, Franklin in Austin...some of the best barbecue in the state. Nice smoke ring, pink meat. Tender and not greasy. Joe's brisket was not for me. Overcooked and greasy, not much of a smoke ring. Maybe I caught them on a bad day. In all fairness, in Houston, I would probably pay for one meat what I paid in Gilbert for 4 meats. Overall a great deal. I wanted to grab some of the gold sauce before I left, but will need to get that next time. I will definitely return. Happy, friendly service in a picnic-like setting (seat yourself, similar to Rudy's BBQ).

Yelp
Always happy to go to Joe's Real BBQ! It's casual, family friendly and the BBQ is great! I also love their homemade Root Beer! My hubby likes the lemonade. I'm a fan of their potato salad, but my hubby doesn't care for it. He doesn't like onions in his potato salad. He does love their BBQ Pit Beans. I'm a senior and get full pretty fast so since they don't have a Senior menu, I ordered the kids turkey sandwich with a side of potato salad and it comes with a cookie. A good deal for $7. My hubs ordered the kids meal with ribs for $9. All in all a great lunch!

Yelp
Came here on Father's Day and it was our first time. It was 115 degrees out and luckily the line was not too long. We ordered the Joes BBQ feast, two kids meals, and a lemon cake. Of course we ordered way too much food, but we wanted to try the different sides. The brisket was delicious and the star of the show! The ribs were decent and the pulled pork was good while it was hot. Service was excellent and price was fair. I've seen more expensive BBQ places with lesser quality. It is THE place to go for BBQ if you are in Gilbert.

Yelp
I love coming to Joe's Real BBQ, the atmosphere inside and outside is inviting and welcoming. The menu boards and the visible options for sides (when ordering) make me want to order everything. The employees were also super friendly and personable which made the experience great. I ended up coming here for my birthday today and I got the 2 meat plate (chopped brisket & pulled pork) with a side of Mac n cheese and cheesy potatoes. The slow smoked meats are impeccable and full of flavor. For me, I don't need to add anything else to it, but I did dabble in the hot bbq sauce a few times. The Mac and cheese and cheesy potatoes are a duo that pairs well together and leaves you feeling full and satisfied. Lastly, the cornbread is cooked so well with its perfect semi hardened top, it hits the spot (with or without the side of cinnamon butter). I highly recommend stopping here. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
It's been more than a few years since I was at Joe's BBQ. Consistent , reliable service and food. Had the two meat platter. Selected the sliced brisket, pulled pork, cornbread and a side of potato salad. Place still has a great hometown rustic vibe. Way more than enough food, the 1 meat platter would have been sufficient. The sliced brisket was exceptional and in my opinion, their signature dish. All good here, lots of restaurant choices in the area.

Yelp
Delicous bbq that's great for family and group outings. Big tables and large outdoor area that has an area for kids to run and play outdoor games (Corn hole and others). Service on a busy Sunday afternoon was pretty quick. We were in line to order for about 15 minutes and got our food as we ordered. Staff is very helpful and kept the dining areas clean and well stocked. .Ribs were so tender and fell off the bone. .Cornbread came with our meal and we loved it. Especially the honeybutter. .Mac and cheese side was pretty good with the baked top crust. .Baked beans was the best side we got! Dessert: .Lemon Cake was so refreshing! .Root beer Cake was more delicious than I expected. I am not a root beer person, but this cake may be the gateway to my root beer journey. It tasted somewhat like chocolate and I loved it.

Yelp
This establishment is a benchmark! It's been around for years and is a landmark in downtown Gilbert. The quality of food is so good especially the lemon cake and the brisket and the mac n cheese. These are my favorites. It's counter type service, like a cafeteria, and the staff is efficient and very helpful. The beef brisket is so moist and tender, it almost melts in your mouth! The lemon cake is poked and infused with a lemon filling!!! The root beer is made in house, to die for! The restaurant is huge, plenty of room but sometimes, there's a line out the door! A definite must try!!!

Yelp
BBQ in Arizona? Yup - Arizona has not only great Mexican, but BBQ found in Joe's Real BBQ. Slow cooked using pecan, the meat is truly tasty, moist, and tender...one would think you are in Texas! It seems to be always crowed for a reason - it's really good. Not sure about what to order? The 4-meat sampler is a great choice and the baked potato with all the fixins is a good choice. The best part? It's next door to TOPO, soft serve ice cream - get adventurous and try the prickly pear flavor, not a flavor easily found elsewhere. A great BBQ joint in an upscale district in Gilbert, a great place for BBQ (and soft serve ice cream!)

Yelp
My family has enjoyed Joe's Real BBQ for years, and I'm so glad they still offer a discount for birthdays! The birthday discount is currently $14. Just show your driver's license / ID at the register. My friend and I came here on a Friday around 12:30pm. The line was fairly long inside, but it took only maybe 10 minutes or less to get to the counter. They assemble the salads and serve the sides at the counter, and the kitchen is behind them where they prep all of the other dishes. You can also order food from Topo's at the register too, and just bring your receipt to the Topo's window to pick up your food. (Topo's is right outside in a small building and serves burritos, elote, and soft-serve ice cream!) I'm not sure why I've never tried the Joe's BBQ Chicken Salad because it is so good!! It's $15 and comes in a bowl stacked pretty high. I love the flavor of their BBQ ranch, the shredded chicken that's covered in BBQ sauce, and the crunch from the Fritos. I added the cornbread croutons that typically only come with the house salad. It adds more crunch and a bit of sweetness. It's a very filling salad for one and probably even two people. There is seating inside and outside. It gets quite sunny out, but there are big umbrellas shading all of the tables. I would get here early for either lunch or dinner. I've seen the dinner line go out the door before! You can also order to-go and pick up at the window on the side of the restaurant. Tip: If you drop off your food at a table outside and go back in for drinks or other things, have one person stay to watch the food. We saw an entire group leave their food unattended, and a bird flew over and started eating their food!

Yelp
Came out side for BBQ!! Went to a BBQ spot which ran out of BBQ ribs so came here. I only like going to their "walk up" window and not to eat inside since it's always so busy in which, my anxiety kicks in, when I'm not on my meds. Ordered a half slab of ribs, potatoe salad and beans and yes dessert was peach cobbler. It was ok! The ribs weren't as tender as I'd like, and the potatoe salad wasn't the best. The beans were not going to lie!! The cobbler was good also. I'd return because it's convenient and service was AWESOME!!! There was a glitz in the matrix because not once did I tell the lovely human at the window my name, and when they called me I was confused . (Who.... me) Who knows, maybe I eat out so much that I'm in their system from the linked systems of other restaurants who use that pad thingy. ‍ This place is popping on weekdays as it is on the weekends. The drive up, walk up window is and one of the best decisions made. I love that they have parking literally right in front of the window, so you can sit in your car while you wait for your name to be called. Try it out for yourself

Yelp
Started the evening by calling to place a ToGo order and was told they are out of chicken breasts, so I decided to wait and come in person to order instead. The girl who answered the phone was not super friendly and seemed to be distracted while asking her questions about what WAS in stock. Drove to the restaurant and walked up to the ToGo window. Stood there for a minute or so and saw a girl walk by. She looked at me, but continued walking by without asking if I needed help, so I went inside. Once inside, I mentioned that I had to come inside because she didn't bother to assist me outside. She seemed annoyed and gave another girl a look. The other employee helped me with my order and plating my food ToGo. Lenard was awesome at the register and even helped me place an order at Topo. Just want to call out Lenard and the other girl working the food line, because they were very friendly and gave excellent suggestions.

Yelp
This is one of my long time favorites! I've been coming to Joe's real BBQ since it was like the only place in that area! The building is super cool and always busy but always well maintained. The employees are all mostly young people but they are always helpful and super nice. The food is amazing from the brisket to every one of the sides. This is a must for anyone looking for quality food!!

Yelp
WOW! This place did not disappoint. We brought a large group here a couple weeks ago... I'm talking like 25 people... and everyone loved it. The line can be intimidating, but it moved fairly quickly. I got their bbq chicken salad and one of my friends got the bbq pork spud. Both were amazing!!!! We were traveling with a girl from TX and even she said the bbq was good! Score! Highly recommend if you're looking for a good bbq place in Phoenix. It's also really family friendly. They have a great outside area with light, picnic tables, and cornhole set up so you can enjoy the outdoor or let those little run around. Or your teens which is honestly what we did.

Yelp
Delicious bbq. Fun outdoor area for social gatherings. Root beer so tasty. Prices nice. Service terrific. Parking available free. Prices were great.

Yelp
5 stars all the way. Joes gave me a birthday meal up to $14. That is simply amazing. The food is very good and I like how it's cafeteria style with friendly people working there. Ambiance is very casual and welcoming.
google avatar

Jordan H.

Yelp
Very popular place, get in line and pick out your food cafeteria-style. I actually didn't like the brisket too much but the pulled pork was great. Don't fall for the spicy citrus slaw like I did, the regular is much better for a bbq sandwich. Potato salad was another good choice. My main gripe is the sauce selection -- I just couldn't find that one perfect sauce among the 3 options.

DeLeon L.

Yelp
I thought the service was friendly and the prices were decent. The portions weren't too bad either. This is my first BBQ experience in Arizona so I'm not sure how it compares to other places here. I know it's not the worst barbecue I've ever had, for me that distinction goes to Birmingham, Alabama. I like the flavor of their sauce, but there wasn't much and there was none on the tables. The meat was smaller portions, but the brisket was tasty. The pork rib was probably the flattest rib I've ever seen, and I think it had been sitting in a heater for a while because it was tough in spots. I ordered their greens for a side and while I don't cook them myself, I had a Southern, mother and grandmother who really knew how to cook greens. These greens did not have any flavor so I was quite disappointed and I don't think they were cleaned very well either because there was a dusty taste to them. The peach cobbler with ice cream on top was probably the highlight of the meal. I have no complaints with it whatsoever. I'm not saying I wouldn't try this place again, but I think I'll give some other barbecue places in Arizona a chance before I come back.
google avatar

Nathaniel C.

Yelp
Got half rack of ribs with a side of beans and a corn bread. Flavor was really good, but the ribs were really thin-- just the width of my pointer finger. Other than that, no complaints. Only recommendation is to pick up the food yourself or eat there. Don't Door Dash unless you want your food cold.
google avatar

Steve S.

Yelp
This is similar to some of the other BBQ joints that have been popping up lately. They mostly have an a la carte menu, with a lot of the same fare you see at most other BBQ places. You can see all the sides right in front of you and best of all: Coke products. (If you've seen any of my other reviews, you'd know that my philosophy is that no self respecting BBQ joint would serve anything but Coke products) The food was good, they have dispensers and cups for your favorite sauces, and the staff came and picked up our plate when done. You can eat inside or out, and outside has some activities for the kids (it's connected to TOPO) If you ride a motorcycle, there's designated motorcycle parking right in the back of the restaurant and you can walk right in from the side doors.
google avatar

Aubrey J.

Yelp
Overpriced and overhyped. Got the big bbq meal so we tried most things. The meats are good but nothing special. Corn bread was pretty good. Honestly the potatoes were the best thing we ate, both the baked potatoes and cheesy potatoes. Mac n cheese was a little above average. Cafeteria style to get the food. The ladies made the line move quick. Seating was limited

Yelp
Hands down, one of the best BBQ spots in Gilbert! The food here is delicious! We get the 4 Meat Platter to get a nice sample of all of it. Highly recommend if it's your first time visiting. Definitely enough to share, too! Their meat is so juicy and cooked so well. Love getting their chicken here! They also have a ton of sides to pick from - the Mac and Cheese and Cheesy Potatoes are very good! You definitely need to try all the sauces! Personally, I think the Golden Sauce is the best. Goes on everything! But the mild and hot BBQs are great as well! It's a great vibe at Joe's Real BBQ - sitting outside is the best. Huge play area with corn hole and ping pong! The line here can get super long during peak dinner times! It's so worth the wait, though. If you're looking for some good BBQ, Joe's has to be on your list to try!

Yelp
Sunday 11:30am. Long line-about 30 min. Women's bathroom- just 2 stalls with only one usable. Pros: huge portions, sweet bbq sauce on baked potato brisket, very good brisket, ribs , pork and sausage link. Loved the peach cobbler and Barq's cream soda at fountain. Baked potato- average. Total for 5- about $100. Took home about 50% of food. Recommend. -EG Eats

Yelp
My family & I are out here visiting in Arizona & looking for a Bomb BBQ place to hit up. We saw this one on Yelp & the pics had us drooling. We walked in & immediately grabbed a table cause I had a feeling it was about to get packed since it was closer to dinner time. Good thing there was plenty of place at the time. Very please to see it very clean & welcoming. We finally looked over the menu & decided on what we were all getting. I of course had to get the 4 meat sampler plate with cheesey potatoes & coleslaw. OMG!!!!!! ALL the meats on thay plate were Absolutely Delicious!!!! We had also tried the spicy jackfruit & it was Superb!!!!! Chicken breast was so good too!! My son-in-law got the baked potato with pulled pork & my eyes practically bulged out when I saw how massive that potato was!! Of ALL the meats we tried, the brisket, chicken & pulled pork were the BEST we have EVER had!!! We had NO need to add any additional BBQ sauce cause it was so dang good as is!!! However, the only thing I was disappointed with was the coleslaw. I had maybe 2-3 bites & had to chuck the rest. I had other family members taste it as well & they didn't like it either. But I will say that next we are out here we will definitely be back!! Let me add though that the people behind the counter & the cashier were very nice & helpful!! They made sure we got what we wanted & needed!! Thank You Joe's!!!!

Yelp
What a wild and happening BBQ place. Way south from where I lived or I'd come more often. Rivals the best in Texas. Lots of indoor seating and some covered outside. Food portions and selection were good! The brisket, ribs and pork was all great, sausage MEH. The baked potato rocked as did the corn, cornbread and coleslaw.

Yelp
Decided to try it for lunch earlier today and was pleasantly surprised. No wait, cute and clean environment and the staff was very nice. Got the meat plate it was 16.50 (came with 2 meats, a side, and cornbread). Brisket was super tender but the ribs were my favorite. Would definitely recommend!

Yelp
I've been coming here since I was a kid and oh boy, is it delicious. Pros: - Delicious variety (pulled pork and spicy slaw are two of my faves) - Great location to walk off your BBQ after eating - Super kind staff - On your birthday, you get $14 off (as of June 2024) if you show your ID! Cons: - Line can get long, but it moves quickly so don't despair - Brisket isn't my favorite, but I do like the chopped brisket. Still, I'd go with the pulled pork if I were you.

Yelp
My bf and I stopped here for lunch and it was so tasty! We split a four meat sampler and ended up with leftovers. The ribs were smoky and tender. I had the chicken leg which was also yummy. Not usually a fan of dark meat, but the chicken leg left my taste buds happy. The potato salad was so good and I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that it used red potatoes. Yum! The Mac n cheese was hot and cheesy. I loved eating the honey butter with the corn bread. The bbq sauces were also really good. The hot one is HOT! The house sauce was my favorite. I loved coming here during lunch since dinner is always busy. We were able to walk up and order and sit and eat without worrying about finding a table. The inside has lots of tables but obviously the food is so good that usually they're all full.

Yelp
Always a great experience at Joes Real BBQ. We arrived early (530p) and there was no one in line. This changed around 6p as many large parties started to arrive. The dining room was clean and orderly and the condiment bar was well stocked. There were dining room attendants busy at work cleaning tables. The food was on point. The brisket was moist with a small fat cap for flavor. The ribs were very meaty and had great flavor. The baked potato was cooked perfectly and loaded with toppings. Don't pass up an opportunity to visit Joes. Parking can be tricky but it is well worth the wait.

Yelp
The place packs in a crowd and the food is the reason why. Tasty barbecue and generous portions served southern style: you order in line and the food is brought to you. We had a bbq salad, and the 2 meat entrees- delicious meats! Very crowded and seating isn't in the best configuration, but good food.
google avatar

Lisa L.

Yelp
The brisket is really moist and so good! The pull pork sandwich is pretty good too. I also really liked the Mac and cheese and corn bread as sides. I like the ambience. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. We sat in a booth inside. Not many people in the afternoon. We went around 4pm on Sunday. I just love downtown Gilbert in general, many cool restaurants and shops.

Yelp
Better than I anticipated, I am a fan of Little miss BBQ and theirs only, all other BBQ places are inferior to them, so that's my measuring stick. However, Joe's real BBQ come out close, not in flavor of course, but in price per pound of meat that I actually get. I ordered a 4 meat bbq sampler with corn bread and a side for $21, come out to be less than $25 after taxes, and boy was it a lot of meat! They did not cheap out on what they give me. The brisket was very moist and fat, very tasty, ribs are good and pulled pork was fantastic! Only thing that was dry was the dark meat chicken, but they are not terrible by any means. Once again, the portion of meat that they gave me for the price is better than any BBQ places in town. I will be back for sure when I just want a big o' plate of BBQ meats next time. Plus, I do like the variety of sides they have, they have a lot choices!

Yelp
I'm a barbecue fan and was excited to try this popular place. The inside looks like your typical neighborhood barbecue joint. They also have a patio for those who prefer that. We went in the late afternoon on a weekday so it wasn't crowded. On the weekend apparently the line can wrap around the entire place! I decided to get a meat plate for variety. For the 2 meats, I chose chicken breast and turkey jalapeño sausage. It came with a side and cornbread. For my side I chose mac n cheese. The food was served quickly cafeteria-style, complete with lunch trays. I like how you can get as much sauce, pickles, jalapeños, and onions as you want at the condiment station. They have a good variety of sauces at different spice levels. Overall the food was delicious and had great flavor. I especially enjoyed the chicken with both the golden sauce (which I believe was mustard-based) and the mild bbq sauce. The sausage was just okay. I enjoyed the cornbread with a slab of the most yummy honey butter. The pasta was plenty cheesy and paired well with the meat. My only issue with the meal was that it was a little cold, which affected the textures, especially of the meat. Would give this another chance.

Yelp
Came here for my husband's birthday lunch. We both shared the 4 meat platter which came with Mac and cheese with corn bread. Cafeteria style restaurant where you grab a tray, pick your food, pay, and seat yourself. The 4 meat platter was a huge meal. Glad we shared! The brisket was a bit fatty and everything else was good. My favorite were the pork ribs and corn bead. The Mac and cheese also was winner. We arrived on a weekday and it was not busy at all. I recommend not coming in a weekend. Passing by, I always see it's busy. If you wanna order ahead, you came pick up your food on the south side of the restaurant. We parked in the back of the restaurant. Plenty of parking and if you can't find a spot, go to the garage next door. I'd come back when craving bbq.

Yelp
Food was delicious- but we ordered via uber eats. The food was not secured- the bag was not tied up or secured. I'll never order again via uber eats from this place again. Always have to be leery of the drivers getting easy access to your food

Yelp
Loves joes! Ordered catering. Mac n cheese, beets, braised greens & cornbread was a hit! Although main course 4 rqcks of ribs were dry. Meat seemed old and tough . Bone was dehydrated. Was expecting their usual fall off the bone juicy. Also. Wish they had the braised greens on the catering menu. So I had to order individual sides (24) a large pan. That cost 90$

Yelp
Joe's is just fantastic. It's a staple of Gilbert, a reminder of quieter times before the Whiskey Rowification of it all. Their barbecue is delicious, everything is good, everyone who works there is super nice, and it really feels like a homey old BBQ joint from a small town. Their sauce is the perfect accompaniment to the meat, and no matter what you like you can find it here. It's cool seeing the families bringing their kids to sit outside and enjoying the day- it feels like real Rockwellian Americana and it'll just take you back to a simpler time as you stuff your face with pecan-smoked meats.

Yelp
Stopped by their side take out window on a Saturday afternoon and had no issues with parking, or a long line. I've had their meats before from a company catering event and thought they were okay ... not outstanding but not below average. It was enough for me to be curious about their desserts, so I finally gave in. Unfortunately, both the root beer cake and peach cobbler didn't do it for me. As some others have noted, it was dry, dense, and did not taste like root beer in my opinion. Additionally, I don't know if it was slice I got, or how it is in general, but it also tasted a little stale ... I could pick up the whole piece with my fork as if it was a piece of meat. As for the peach cobbler, it had a great crust but was too sweet for me. I think this would be better with a scoop of ice cream, but I passed on that since it costs extra. All in all, I wouldn't be enticed to come back unless it was with a group and they all wanted to go here. If you're looking for some good BBQ, head to Caldwell just down the street.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots in Gilbert! Joe's has a cafeteria style line, where you line up with a tray and let the staff know what you want to get. I got the brisket sandwich with potato salad and cornbread, which was so delicious. The brisket was very tender and was not dry at all. I ended up getting the potato salad for the side with my sandwich and it was delicious! It's a little on the less creamy side, which I think was perfect for the barbecue. I also highly recommend getting the cornbread with their honey butter. So good! It's a very laidback atmosphere and they also have an outdoor patio for seating. I'd definitely recommend stopping by Joe's if you're craving bbq, or jsut the sides!

Yelp
The food is full of flavor. It is very tasty. I would have liked more sauce. That is my only suggestion. The GM Amy went above and beyond to make sure our service was good. I will definitely be looking forward to going back. The ambiance is great. It is aimed for the customer satisfaction.

Yelp
Ordered a baked potato, chicken breast and greens at 3pm on a Friday. The greens were lukewarm. The chicken was cold. The $9 baked potato must have been sitting for hours, the potato was separating from the skin and had that nasty brown color. I was too hungry to take it back and didn't feel like bothering with the aggravation. The golden BBQ sauce and regular BBQ sauce had great flavors and they weren't too sweet or salty. $40 lunch for 2, way overpriced! I did appreciate that the food was not overly salty, like most BBQ places.

Yelp
Came in for a late lunch. Plenty of tables open on a Saturday and who can resist BBQ? My sister has a pulled pork sandwich which looked amazing! She lives here and highly recommends. I had a chicken BBQ salad and it was loaded with chunks of BBQ chicken, cherry tomato, corn kernels, black beans, cheese, fritos and oh yeah some lettuce was in there too. Wow it was really tasty. Great idea about the corn chips although I thought there were more than was needed in the salad. Still great!

Yelp
Casual, cafeteria style BBQ joint. Very homey feel inside. Friendly staff. I had the meat sampler, the portions are large, for sure. The brisket and ribs were really good. The other meats were kind of lackluster. The coleslaw wasn't anything to write home about, either. However, the cornbread was delicious and I generally don't like cornbread. I would give it another try if I was in the neighborhood.

Yelp
The brisket was so juicy and delicious! It has taken us forever to find a bbq spot that didn't dry out the brisket. We can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Great tasting bbq, without the sauce was delicious and very large potato was tender and moist, tender skin too. Service was fast and easy. Fun place, can be loud but great for the family! Will be back!
