Johnny's - Cocktails & Hi-Fi

Well, this is my first time here and apparently, according to a buddy, it's changed a lot! This place has a Japanese cocktail bar aesthetic to it, heavy wood paneling, well made drinks, Japanese whiskeys. Keen and detail oriented eyes oversaw it's restructure.... I like the ambiance here, the drinks are reasonably priced for LA and kudos to the barkeeps for the evening, a woman with the best hips and a man with a chiseled jaw and a smirk slung well-made drinks. I'd come back.

We used to love Johnny’s for its warm, social vibe—it was the kind of local dive where everyone felt connected. The original staff were a big part of the charm, making introductions, chatting with regulars, and creating a welcoming atmosphere. Since the new owners took over, it’s a different story. The new staff are friendly, but the personal touch is gone. You only socialize with the people you came with, and the sense of community is missing. Add in higher prices, and it feels more like a cold transaction than the cozy neighborhood spot it used to be.

Old Johnny’s was better. The old Johnny’s was a staple in the Highland Park community for many years. A place where local people used to go to have fun. Bartenders were the best in the neighborhood as for they were expert mixologists, but cocktails were not $15. This is just another one of many, “cookie cutter”, standard issue hipster hangout place. Nothing special. Atmosphere felt like if I was in an Applebees restaurant, only difference were the eye gouging cocktail prices and the hi-fi quality music. It does not come to my amazement that only a certain specific group of people give this place a 5 star rating. I miss the old Johnny’s party atmosphere. I miss the old regular party animals that would make Johnnys bar unique.

Johnny's strikes the perfect balance of being an old school dive bar you know and love and an elevated cocktail lounge with DJs spinning an eclectic mix of tunes depending on the night. Fast service, delicious drinks and a jukebox to play when the DJ takes off? What's not to love? ???

Best Espresso Martini by Adam ! He's the funniest bartender ever and made us feel very welcome!

Came here for a friend's birthday on a Saturday night. The place was packed and the vibes were great. I would give this place 5 stars except the bar tenders, for some reason were kind of slow. I was standing in front of the bar for what felt like half an hour and had no pineapple juice. Otherwise, really enjoyed the night. Cheers

Johnny's is under new ownership. A year ago, I was here raising a goodbye toast to my friends and the amazing bar staff. I really had no intention of coming back but decided to give it a chance. Even though I didn't plan it, turns out it was a year to the day of my last visit. The place has been remodeled. It no longer emits the cozy neighborhood dive vibes. Instead, it's a hipster lo-fi bar with a sleek chic décor. As pretty as it is, it doesn't have that warm, welcoming feel. Everything is neat & pristine. There is a DJ booth, and the old jukebox remains. The selection of music pumping through the speakers was enjoyable but the playlist wasn't from the jukebox. A few of the cocktails are on draft. I prefer mine made to order. However, the drink prices were reasonable. I ordered a Hendrick's & Soda. Cañada, the bartender, was friendly and engaging. I sipped my cocktail while reminiscing of all the good times I once had here. I wish they would have changed the name. I would have been more receptive if they had. I'm not sure if I'll return. It's just not the same. I miss the old Johnny's. I miss the old crew. For now, it's 3.5 stars. *Metered street parking or residential.

Incredible vibes - beautiful interior and great sound. Small intimate booths along a retro mirror wall. We came in on a Thursday night for a drink. House wine was $14 for a glass The place lets you order pizza from the pizza folks outside and eat it inside. They have pizza menus inside. We ordered a delicious burrata pizza for $16 (they take cash or zelle/venmo) Overall, beautiful space and great experience.

Super cool low key bar with live Hi-Fi. Loved this spot and we're so happy we found it. Their cocktail spritz are delicious! I had their blonde which was also very good. Service was excellent and Wolf was an amazing bartender. He definitely made our experience even more enjoyable! This place will easily become our usual spot.

Love this local spot. It's chill, good beer and great service. It's my first priority spot to hit anytime I want to grab a drink and relax.

Finally made it after change of ownership Thought I walked into a funeral, Order two drinks, I think the alcohol was non existing, ask for margarita they gave me lemonade on the rocks, the atmosphere was abysmal, R.I.P old Johnny's you will always be in our hearts ..thanks transplants for destroying the last great bar on york , enjoy your hi-fi

I can't believe how amazing Johnny's revamp is! As a long time regular at this spot, it's continued to be the best spot to grab a drink and hang out with friends! I'm so grateful for this neighborhood bar, keep up the good work
