"After 50-plus years as a Highland Park dive, Johnny’s was recently reborn as a vinyl bar with a slick all-black look and a booming hi-fi system. From Thursday to Sunday, DJs spin ‘60s R&B or shoegaze records in the corner, as people in flannels bob their heads at the low-lit bar. Don’t expect to see the dance party or chainsmoking sidewalk scene at nearbyGold Line, but this York Avenue spot is still a great hang if you’re meeting a friend or date who loves live music and a boozy drink. The cocktail list also got an upgrade from the former Varnish owner—expect classics with the occasional twist, like whisky highballs tinted with hibiscus and mezcalitas spiked with amaro." - Sylvio Martins
