I literally know nothing about West African food.. what this review will note is that my taste bud decided that didn't matter, because this food was delicious, cooked with love, and darn tasty. That's right, this Gambian/Senegal restaurant is legit delicious, oh heck, I was there yesterday and as I'm getting around to writing the review, my mouth is watering.
NOTE.. Parking in the back, lots and free.. also there are a couple spots on the street..
Like Marie B. commented in her review, this location was the home for Fu Man Dumplings, which was literally the best dumping in Seattle, hands down, no vote needed, it's truth, deal with it... and I had to deal with it when the family that ran that place retired/went back to asian... and left a void that I still haven't been able to fill to this this day.. their Garlic Sauce... drools.
okay, enough about that old restaurant, in their space, which is very much different in the decor, seating, etc.. is a home like place/simple eatery. I mean, you literally feel like you are at a friend's place, they hand you a bottled water, flatware, and the run of the mill napkin... sure it's basic, but who cares.. did I tell you the food was tasty?
We had the Benachin with Lamb.. and Afra with Chicken... both seasoned to PERFECTION, and tasting like was SLOW cooked.. there was some flavors that told me.. an open flame was involved, and that's again, PERFECT. Portions are solid, you will not be hungry.
Also, worth mentioning the service, its owner operated, so be sure to ask about her story, her food, and yes, I believe it's woman owned. Boom, go here, get good, use your hands (if you want to eat it like it's traditionally had) or use a fork, if you are being formal about it. Their juices are darn tasting also, Baobab was our fav, and now I need to know more about this tree that I first saw in the movie Madagascar.
Highly recommend.
