San Francisco’s Hottest New Restaurants, November 2024

"Joyride’s been on an expansion tear these last few years, with new locations popping up across the Bay Area, but its location at Pier 1 is the pizzeria’s waterfront flagship with new offerings. Along with Joyride’s usual roster of Detroit-style pizza options, there is also buffalo milk soft serve, coffee drinks, and cocktails, with breakfast items on the way." - Dianne de Guzman, Lauren Saria

29 Places To Have A Private Dinner In SF

"Capacity: 50-200  Joyride Pizza is a pizza party. They make one of the top Detroit-style pies in town, and the space is ideal for receptions, life celebrations, and forced moments of corporate team bonding—it’s located in Yerba Buena Gardens, right next to the Moscone Center convention hub. Joyride is huge and versatile, with an indoor space with huge glass windows and a garden-like outdoor terrace. The menu of pizzas, salads, and pastas is entirely customizable and works for every occasion. " - lani conway

11 SF Restaurants With Easy Parking

"Joyride Pizza’s Yerba Buena location is right across the street from the 5th and Mission garage. This multi-level parking structure may be an obstacle course of large poles and ridiculously small spots, but finding a temporary home for your car here is still better than risking a tow at a white curb with six conflicting traffic signs. Once you’re seated at Joyride, order any of the Detroit-style pizzas with chunky tomato sauce and a farmers market haul’s worth of toppings, which tastes even better when you’re not worrying about a trip to the impound." - julia chen 1

The SF Museum + Lunch Power Pairings

"The Museum: SFMOMA Meandering through SFMOMA’s multiple floors of modern art exhibitions isn’t a bad way to get your appetite going (plus, you’ll enrich your mind, etc. etc.). Once you’re sufficiently hungry, head across the street to Joyride Pizza. The casual Detroit-style pizza joint has outdoor tables and lots of greenery in the middle of Yerba Buena Gardens. They specialize in pizzas with golden-brown focaccia crusts with crispy cheese walls, chunky marinara sauce, and a garden’s worth of fresh toppings. Enjoy the views while tearing into a fabulous pie." - lani conway, julia chen 1

As a Detroit-style pizza shop owner, I was curious and hopeful checking out this place. I left pretty disappointed. The dough was dense and underdeveloped, likely the result of a short fermentation, maybe 48 hours at most. It lacked the airy, open crumb and crisp you’d expect from a well made pie. The pizza I ordered (custom toppings: pepperoni, mushrooms, olives) appeared to have been par-baked, probably as a plain cheese pie, then topped and re-baked. The result was a floppy slice with uneven heat distribution, cheese under the toppings wasn’t fully melted, and the base was soggy. The frico (crispy fried cheese) didn’t travel fully down to form a full skirt and collapsed under the weight of the bland sauce. The tomato sauce tasted like it came straight from a can with minimal cooking, bland. On the plus side, the Czech Pilsner was good. The bar area had a cool vibe, and the beer selection looked solid. The garden out back was modest but fine. Generally a good place for a beer. Maybe the garlic knots are good.

I came here after a happy hour event nearby, and let me just say this place hit the spot. I've been to Joyride in SoMa, but Woods raised the bar. I love how large the venue is and how they have a large selection of pizzas, wings, drinks, and desserts, so there's guaranteed to be something for everyone. Perfect spot to hit up for a night out!

Very nice, calm atmosphere with great seating areas inside and out. I came for the pizza, but most others came for the drinks. We got sweet Bianca, Meatzza, & the chef actually made the sweet heat pineapple first by accident, so the server offered that to us, too. All pizzas were very good and I would order any of them again. I would definitely come back

Google
A nice place to sit down having a drink and enjoy the Detroit style square pizza. The atmosphere was so tempting for me to get a drink even though I don't usually drink. The pizza we got is good. It looks pricey but it is actually good and quite filling. There are wide variety of food that didn't notice too. I would love to try other stuff in the menu next time I visit.

Pizza is fantastic here, it’s done in a Detroit style and is sooo good!

Gluten-free detroit style pizza was very good and so was the beer / wine selection. The service, however, was not. Hipster dude with an awful attitude took our order. No smile, no hello, no hospitality.

Really delicious good vegan Detroit pizza with beyond sausage. Extremely tasty. Fluffy and flavourful. We also enjoyed pepperoni one and good beer and soda. Nothing to complain about!

Located on Lower Haight Street in San Francisco, Joyride Pizza offers an exceptional dining experience. We savored two delicious Detroit Pizzas: Zoe 'Roni Pepperoni and Pestorrific. The Zoe 'Roni Pepperoni Pizza showcased a perfect blend of pepperoni, mozzarella, brick cheese, parmesan, and house marinara. Equally delightful was the Pestorrific Pizza, featuring smoked chicken, applewood smoked bacon, mozzarella, brick cheese, pesto, and ranch. I couldn't resist devouring seven slices—a testament to their irresistible flavors! We also enjoyed draft beer from their selection, complementing the meal perfectly. With fantastic food, great beer, and a casual ambiance, Joyride Pizza is a must-visit in SF's Lower Haight. Treat yourself to an outstanding pizza and beer experience at Joyride. Cheers!

Yelp
4.5 stars Joyride Pizza has a few locations all over the city but I believe this is the only one that is more of a sit down, dim lighting vibe. Plenty of tables inside but there is a backyard patio with heaters as well. Came here on a thursday evening around 7pm and the place was very full. The menu consists of modern detroit style pizzas with unique topping combinations. You order at the front and they bring the food out to you. What we got: 1. Sweet Bianca ($24) -- sweet pizza topped with fig jam, honey, and a dollop of ricotta. very very sweet (too sweet for me and i have a big sweet tooth). 2. Sweet Heat Pineapple ($24) -- savory pizza; main toppings were pineapple and spicy jalepenos. they loaded this thing up, so many toppings but the integrity of the dough help solid. Each pizza came with 6 square slices and is decent for two people (not too full) each. It's pricy for pizza but this is kinda more like "elevated"(?) pizza. The dough was really good, very light and squishy but dense enough to hold the toppings

Yelp
Joyride offers detroit style pizza inside Woods Lowside brewery (serving beer and wine, but not much else in terms of beverages, not even soda). The setting is modern and inviting, and there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating available. We ordered a full size pizza (large) which is 4 slices total, good for two people, but if you're super hungry you may want to order more. We got half Buffalo Chicken and half Bacon Me Crazy. The buffalo pizza was a bit salty, and we weren't fans of the bleu cheese. We ended up not even finishing this one. The bacon pizza was surprisingly less salty and was really tasty with a nice combination of ingredients, but the crust seemed a bit undercooked/soggy on the bottom. I did like the unique offerings on the menu, and the pizza wasn't bad, but I've had better detroit style pizza in SF as well as other cities, so I wasn't too impressed with my first time trying this pizza chain... and the fact that I couldn't even have a soda with my pizza here kinda sucked, lessening the appeal of this place overall.

Yelp
I'm really on the fence about this one. The menu looked super appetizing and I was so thrilled they even offered a vegan dairy free option. On all their pizzas, you can ask for dairy free and dairy free cheese are used. Only catch is you can do this to a full pizza. They don't do half customizations. We ordered the sweet heat which comes with pineapple. Also got the meatzza and it's loaded with pepperoni. I got the vegan pesto pizza. I can tell you I'm not a fan of vegan cheese. Not sure which one they used but it just came out soggy. The crust was softer for a deep dish, it felt a little under cooked? Maybe it was the cheese though. The meatzza was very salty after a few bites but it balances well if you eat it with the sweet heat. I've had other deep dish pizza and I think this one is decent. I did find a hair stuck in the cheese on the sweet heat so that was a bummer. But that can happen everywhere you go ‍ our server was very nice though which is a plus. You order at the counter and pick a seat anywhere. They have outdoor seating as well. Love the decorations in this place! It felt very modern and cozy. Street parking only at this location but there was plenty on a Saturday afternoon.

Yelp
we live in the area and love coming here for specifically the sweet heat pineapple pizza. we ordered it today and as soon as my sister bit into it she realized it was missing the mikes hot honey and red pepper flakes. it might seem nitpicky but we paid good money for this pizza, those are main flavor ingredients, and it's just sloppy. we called in to ask if we could walk back and just pick up sauce real quick, but it seems like the number listed online for them is not current. pretty disappointed :/ the pain of expecting a specific flavor and taste and it not being there

Yelp
This branch of Joyride is inside Woods Lowside, in the Lower Haight. Same delicious pizza, which is saying a lot, in a city that has thin crispy crust, Chicago style, deep dish, NY slices- but here we have Detroit style. The bonus of this location is an extensive drink menu @ a bar you'll want to hang out in, although I wouldn't last long without back support. A surprisingly large interior, with tables, chairs, & a shelf full of bottles. But wait, there's more. A secret outdoor patio surrounded by greenery. Nice. In fact, the entire place is beautifully remodeled, clean, inviting. Great place for a party, or just enjoy your food.

Yelp
The absolute worst Joy ride Ordered two vegan pizzas , one w vegan pepperoni and instead they cut up something that looks like vegan bacon Second pizza cheese was so cold and uncooked it even looked like it I'll never in life go to this location again I prefer Valencia

Yelp
Came here Thursday night at around 6:30pm. It was pretty busy and most of the tables were occupied so we sat outside. It's self seating and you go up and order your food and drinks. Outside was so cold but they had heaters which helped. The only thing was that there's lots of greenery like plants and vines hanging over the tables so there were a bunch of spiders coming down while we ate. The pizzas were really tasty! We got the sweet Bianca which was a sweet pizza. I thought it was good but not amazing. Just fig jam with cheese and ricotta on pizza dough. The sweet heat pineapple was a lot better. The jalapeños gave a good kick and the pineapples were sweet. The onions gave a great texture boost too.

Yelp
I love a happy hour, but pizza happy hour is new to me. Did you know that from 2-3pm you can get half-priced half pizzas?! There's a special button on the kiosk and everything. AMAZING! I didn't even bother to sit down before digging in at a table outside. I highly recommend the Meatzza (sausage, pepperoni, bacon, marinara sauce, mozzarella, parmesan)!

Yelp
We enjoyed the pizza very much, the bacon pizza was a little salty to me but I guess bacon can be salty in general, the garlic knots were very good, a few of the pieces did get a little burnt on the bottom. The restaurant itself was very nice and I liked the vibe it was giving. It was a relaxing place to sit down and eat. The food also came out very fast so that's a plus. Service was great. Next time I'll try something a little more adventurous.

Yelp
The best deep dish pizza in San Francisco. Ordered the pesto pie and literally checked all the boxes. Super flavorful, the thick cheese, crunchy crust; 10/10 my go to when I want pizza in the city!

Yelp
I. LOVE. THIS. PIZZA! This location is great, great ambiance. Nice lil patio and lots of room inside. I forgive Joyride for our pizza not being very warm when we dined there there because the beer was great, and the one server/cashier/bartender was awesome despite the slow service. We've ordered pizza to go from this location and it was INCREDIBLE!!!! My partner said this is by far and away the best gluten-free and dairy-free pizza he's *ever* had.

Yelp
I've been here quite a few times, but the prices have gone up and the quality has gone down a little. All their pizza is thick French bread style, which is very high in calories and carbohydrates. There's no thin crust options unfortunately
