Google
My daughter and I visited this beautiful bakery and we were excited based on the reviews and the Instagram photos everything looks so delicious. We walked through the door and immediately smelled of urine inside the bakery. There was an elder lady sitting in her medical chair talking to herself however, she wasn’t bothering anyone but she reeked of urine. The lady at the counter was pretty blah and the energy just wasn’t that great however, she was rude. We purchased 4 donuts (2) sugar twist , (2) chocolate twist, and a dozen chocolate chip cookies. The donuts were not fresh. They did not melt in my mouth however, they weren’t terrible that’s why we are giving it ⭐️ ⭐️ The cookies were not great they were very salty we couldn’t even enjoy them. Also, there was just a small selection of pastries and if there were more in the back or refrigerator that was not seen to customers the counter lady did try to bring them to our attention. We visited the bakery around 12:50. Overall, I probably won’t revisit this bakery again as we wasn’t able to eat anything we purchased.

I don't even want to leave a review because it means other people will know about this place, and I want it to keep it all to ourselves. But this place is so good I need it to be massively successful. The drinks are super cute and fantastic. The cinnamon sticky bon is amazing. We ordered a small sample of everything, and each one was fantastic.

Amazing pastries that made for a delicious Saturday breakfast. Great coffee. The breakfast sandwich, yellow mung bean croissant, doughnuts (bombolini), and all the cookies were stand outs.

JP Makes and Bakes always has inventive and delicious treats! The soft serve is amazing - he is one of the few (if not only) places to make his own soft serve base and the ube/lychee swirl was DELICIOUS. The buns are unique and flavorful and the ube brownies are a must! He is always trying out new things so it’s always worth a visit to see what’s new. I haven’t tried many of his savory dishes but they look excellent. And overall the prices are very reasonable for what you’re getting - would highly recommend giving this place a try!

Had to check this new Filipino establishment! Clean environment, the baked goods not only looked good but are delicious! The ube flavor was authentic! Definitely coming back here.

Stepping into this bakery felt like discovering a hidden gem. I tried the Pan de Coco filled with coconut and brown sugar, and it immediately brought back memories of a similar snack from my childhood in Kerala, India—such a nostalgic treat! The cassava cake was another highlight, with its subtle yet delightful flavor. Both were absolutely amazing and worth every bite! Must try!

Coconut & ube soft serve ice cream was very good! So was the cream cheese savory bakery item! Reasonably priced as well!!

We got the Savoury Special (biscuits, eggs, gravy), the cinnamon roll, Ube brownie, Ube cookies, Coco pan, Everything pan, Ube Coco Matcha, and an Ube Latte. Everything tasted great. The prices are great and the atmosphere is amazing. I would especially recommend the cinnamon roll if it's available. There is limited seating in the cafe so plan to take out if you're going at a busy time. Overall amazing and I'm so glad to have Philipino food making an appearance in the neighborhood!

Yelp
If you're looking for the taste of your Lola's home cooking, this might not be quite what you expect. It's a bit more Filipino-fusion, as one reviewer put it. We found that the ube and pandan cookies tasted like regular sugar cookies, and the guys at the next table weren't impressed with the garlic rice (not enough garlic) or the pan de coco (no coco!). We tried them ourselves and agreed. And if you love fluffy, buttery, cheesy ensaymada, you might be a little disappointed. One customer said it didn't look or taste like ensaymada at all. The ube halaya was a definite winner though- super rich and flavorful. It was the highlight of our early morning drive to Detroit. So, while it's a good Filipino (fusion) spot, remember: it's definitely not your Lola's makes and bakes!

Yelp
Really delicious Ube treats! We got the Ube brownie and a dozen cookies ($10)- yum yum, I would totally go back for those! We also tried the savory special which was a Chicken Longanisa over biscuits which was okay, the sweetness in this dish threw us off (a Filipino friend of mine told me Filipinos love to add sweet to everything- lol) so would probably skip that next time. The espresso was really good! They have 2 very small (& low) tables for those who want to eat there, we went on a Saturday so it was busy and yes, go early as we witnessed them selling out of several of their pastries! Great addition to Detroit, we will be tempted to come back to try more goodies!

Yelp
You know a neighborhood is on rise when the hip filipino bakery opens up! Lots of interesting takes on filipino flavors. Stuff tried Calamansi olive oil cake Ube cookies Chicken Longanisa sio pao Sisig sionpao Everything was pretty tasty. The calamansi and olive oil cake was one of my faves but the owner came out and gave us an assortment of sio pao on the house when he heard my mom wanted us to drive all the way from Clinton twp to try this place out! Definitely made us fans of this place on the spot! The space is pretty tiny so expect to likely take your eats to go!

Yelp
Obsessed with JP makes and bakes after one visit! I went for lunch on a Friday and had the ukoy bowl, which was delicious. The batter used is so light while still being crispy. I also treated myself to a couple items from the bakery - the brownie and babingka were great. I had to grab 6 of the suman malagkit to go as well, because I love a sweet sticky rice roll!!! Topped all of this off with the mango calamansi lemonade - a perfect summer drink.

Yelp
Delicious hip bakery in downtown Detroit featuring Ube desserts. Ube brownie was super moist and not overwhelmingly sweet. Croissant was dense and buttery. I actually liked it, which is rare cause I am a known croissant hater. Service was fast and friendly, and ambiance is hip and trendy. Highly recommend coming out for a different experience!

Yelp
Detroit's food scene continues to diversify, and I'm open to all of it. I'm so excited to share with Filipino friends that there is a Filipino bakery in town. I'm always trying to drag as many people as I can to visit Detroit. I loved all the cookies and Ube-Matcha latte.

Yelp
I was not expecting such deliciousness! When I walked in, I was greeted with a smile. It was my first time here, so all my questions were answered. There are more selections than I expected and everything was fresh baked and delicious. I walked in with a friend and we had a hard time not buying one of everything! We'll definitely be back! I wish they opened at 7:30 a.m. so that I could stop in before work! Parking is tough you may end up circling the block.

Yelp
This place is an excellent addition to the neighborhood! I wandered in on a Wednesday afternoon, and I was able to pop in and out without waiting more than 5 minutes. The service was friendly and helpful. The prices were reasonable and baked goods altogether very tasty. The only additional commentary I have, speaking as a Filipino-American, is that this is not a traditional Filipino bakery. They have some standard Filipino offerings like pan de sal, Spanish bread, and a few others, but I wouldn't call the flavors or textures traditional. The pan de sal, while a perfectly tasty piece of bread, didn't quite taste like what I was expecting- instead, it tasted closer to a Chinese dinner roll than its Filipino namesake. The Spanish bread's texture was also not quite right, though the filling felt more like it was in the right direction. I think this place is a fun, exciting bakery that I would classify more as Filipino fusion than traditional. But aside from that feedback, don't let it deter you because a lot of the bakery's offerings were very tasty. In particular, we enjoyed the Ube Knot and the Ube Brownie. We'll be back to try more of their baking adventures!

Yelp
I visited JP Makes and Bakes at the recent Little Asian Bites Night Market and thought they deserved a separate review. I originally learned about JP from an article on Eater a couple of weeks ago and was pretty excited to learn that he was going to be at the night market. There aren't very many Filipino establishments in Metro Detroit and I was excited to finally have a bakery option! Everything at the booth looked so delectable, but we managed to pare things down to a couple of items: Cassava Cake ($5) - Coconut shreds are embedded in the cassava cake, which is then covered with a thin layer of caramelized custard/condensed milk. That top layer is sweet and rich. Overall the cake is chewy, kind of like a more spongy and granular mochi chew. (5/5) Ube Brownie ($3) - This brownie is more cakey/fluffy than fudgy. It's quite sweet with a rich, earthy ube flavor that comes through easily. When you open the package, the ube aroma hits you in the face. (4/5) Polvoron Pinipig ($5 for 4) - I've never had this pastry before. I found it to be very interesting and very delicious. The construction seems like toasted rice that's been pounded into powder, mixed with milk powder, flour, butter and salt, and formed into a cake. It reminds me of a Macau-style almond cookie, but with different ingredients. It tastes sweet, a bit salty, and a bit milky. The texture is dense with fine grains of rice/flour/powder, but it's able to crumble apart a bit. The well toasted rice flour embedded throughout adds a bit of crisp crunch. (5/5) I read that JP Makes and Bakes will be opening a retail bakery sometime this summer. I can't wait for it to open so I'm able to try more treats at regular intervals instead of having to wait for popups! Overall rating of the food this visit: 4.67/5

Yelp
We went there on a Saturday morning and was thankful that the line wasn't too long, as what we were expecting. We got a variety of goodies from here. Such a cute Filipino fusion bakery! My favorites were the ube brownie, pan de everything and the calamansi olive oil cake. I also tried the iced ube matcha latte and the calamansi lemonade, it was good! But I would love if they had just an iced ube matcha on its own. The service was quick and so polite. Was very excited to come and try this place out and it didn't disappoint!

Yelp
Went to hang out with some friends and we got amazing desserts, bread, and drinks while we talked. There was a lot of stuff with Uber and it was delicious. The staff was very helpful if you had questions about the desserts or bread. There is not a lot of seating area so it's really pick up and go. There are about eight seats in total two tables so you have to get there early or either. There may be a little bit late. The line went really fast when getting our desserts and treats.

Yelp
Great service and prices aren't too bad. You have to be there at least an hour after they opened or half-hour before they open because they get sold out of the most common Filipino pastries. The UBE brownies are to go for!!! The flavor of the UBE is actually there and what I liked most about this is not too sweet, not to mention...moist. They have blueberry bibingka which is another recommendation for you to try. Parking- There is street parking available, but you'll have to get there before they open if you wish to park near. If not, there is a parking lot around the corner that charges for $5 on Saturday AM, sorry I don't know the charges during weekdays. Sevice- Excellent service! The staff is friendly and attentive. Jonathan (JP) usually is around and he greets customers. You'll have to be patient if there is a line, but for the fourth time we there, averaged 15 minutes wait, but this is before the store opens. Cash or Card- They both accept cash or card. Specials- JP does specials but they vary on a day. I highly try what ever they have :-)

Yelp
What a sensation! Prices were good, food was even better! Take your friends here and you'll be more popular. I will be coming back soon.

Jasmine K.

Yelp
Super small inside and not really any space to sit down, but their matcha and pastries are incredible. Truly to die for. JP is often running around -- you can really tell he's pouring his soul into this place. I'm extremely picky with matcha and I think theirs is the best in Detroit. I only wish they had more seating and were open more so I could go there more often!!

Maria Melissa A.

Yelp
The food reminds of home. It was a good thing we came early as it was pack in the afternoon. Recommend the Ube brownies if Ube is your favorite.
