"J.T. Youngblood’s was a revitalization of an old-school Texas chain restaurant focusing on fried chicken and Southern fare. Opened in April 2017 and closed in December 2018, it was located in Mueller, Austin and is now the site for a new Veracruz All Natural location." - Nadia Chaudhury

"J.T. Youngblood’s, the newest iteration of the long-lost renowned Texas fried chicken chain, is closed. Its last day of service on 1905 Aldrich Street in Mueller was yesterday, Sunday, December 16. Behind the newer restaurant were Lenoir chef/owner Todd Duplechan; Jeffrey Weinberger, the original owner of fine-dining restaurant Jeffrey’s; and the former manager of Four Seasons restaurant Trio (which is no longer) Jeff Haber. The renamed restaurant came back in March 2017 with a menu of Southern-style fried chicken and chicken items, plus pie, shakes, sides, and more." - Nadia Chaudhury

It’s not Gus’ Fried chicken but it was pretty good. I think the batter needs a little more salt and seasoning and it would taste perfect and get five stars from me. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the batter coating looked nice, though. The rolls are great and I wish they kept coming even though we were overly full. Everything was great including our service. It wasn’t busy but the Server kept coming over to us every five minutes in the end so it was awkward. I guess she just needed something to do. We went before the busy rush to ensure a peaceful experience. Pictured here are: 5 Piece Chicken with mashed potatoes, mac ‘n cheese, and Vincent’s slaw with rolls, sweet butter, and happy hour fried pickles, beer, and fresh squeezed in house lemonade. Pie: coconut cream pie. I would have opted for a fattier whipped cream but the pie is rich so the light whipped cream was enough. We look forward to the chicken and waffles when we go back for brunch! We’ve been late on the JT Youngblood’s bandwagon but this is number 3 on my list of fried chicken places in Austin. They are going to be a great place to buy a quick pie for the holidays when other places have long lines or are sold out! ;)

Fried chicken at was so damn good. I recommend getting the 5 piece to share because the portions are pretty large. I had the mashed potatoes and Vincent’s coleslaw as a side and was not disappointed. Service was excellent too. Staff was in it and checked up on us if we needed anything and kept our glasses full. Whole meal came out to $20 for 2 and it was totally worth it! If you want some fried chicken in Austin, this is one of the places to go!

This place is okay. Definitely not making this a regular spot but would be okay returning if somebody wanted to try it out. The prices were somewhat pricey for what you got especially the kids chicken tenders. Didn't like that the spicy was just spices thrown on top of already fried chicken. In my opinion it's so much when the spices are already fried with the batter or marinated. Ambiance was pretty cool and it's in a prime location.

Good food and great service. Fried chicken was good but similar to other fast food fried chicken places around town. Waffle fries and potato salad were both okay too. I probably wouldn't come back but if I did I'd try a different dish and one of of those cocktails on tap.

The fried chicken is really good. I sprang for the Texas heat seasoning, which made me sneeze more than it tested my heat tolerance, but still... I enjoyed it. The mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese we're everything you'd hope for, but don't skip the greens and garlicky cole slaw. They are still working out some service kinks, but your patience is rewarded.

Alright at best. Always looking for good fried chicken places and Austin just doesn't have much. I got a 2 piece with mashed potatoes dry. I wanted beans and rice but they said they dont carry it anymore. Maybe take it off the menu if that's the case. The potatoes were real and not spud mixed so that was good. I got "Texas Heat" that was a joke. Sprinkling a little bit of pepper seasoning and calling it hot didn't even tingle my taste bud for heat. Places like Gus actually seasoned the batter and fry it. JT does the cheap way out. Not impressed at all. I do like they use tablets to place orders and check out. Makes for a quick process. My review is only on the fried chicken. Very bland and not seasoned well for my liking. There are better places for fried chicken. Maybe next time.

Solid fast casual spot with personality and juicy rotisserie chicken. The fried chicken isn't overly greasy like many spots and will hit the mark for some. However, I'm a tough fried chicken critic growing up in the rural South so I'll stick to Granny's special when my calorie counter allows. I will be coming back for the rotisserie chicken though and recommend you try it as well. One surprise: The dinner roll may have been the best I've ever tasted!

The only thing I didn't care for was the limited options for boneless. I know I'm "that guy" but I'm just not a fan. Regardless, I ordered chicken nuggets which were really chicken tenders. They were pretty much perfect. They put, what seems like, pretzel salt on them which adds just that little extra to make it even better. Rolls were pretty simple store bought which was a shame. Sides were good. Best of all though, was the iced tea. Perfect blend of sweet. I had like 3 of them. Would go again even though parking sucks and prices are a little steep.
